Background: Man-made climate change is one of the greatest challenges of the future. The course is being set in the current generation. As the healthcare sector contributes a considerable proportion of greenhouse gas emissions, measures to counteract this must be introduced as a matter of urgency. A guideline is therefore necessary as an initial recommendation for action in the intensive care and emergency medicine sector., Methods: As part of the guideline program of the Association of the Scientific Medical Societies in Germany (AWMF e. V.), an S1 guideline was developed with the participation of 12 professional societies and initiatives, and published in October 2024. The guideline group defined relevant key topics and carried out a systematic search of the literature; due to the S1 classification, no separate evidence review was carried out. The classification of the recommendations took place in a formal consensus-building process., Results: The guideline contains 73 recommendations for the implementation of sustainable approaches in intensive care and emergency medicine. These are recommendations that concern both the interprofessional team in the departments and the organizational structure of the hospital., Conclusion: The guideline shows that there are already relevant and concrete possibilities for more sustainable work in intensive care and emergency medicine. Retinal vascular occlusions require close cooperation of different medical disciplines to ensure optimal care of the affected patients. The medical clarification between arterial and venous occlusions is comparable but in the case of retinal arterial occlusions it should be carried out immediately. The most important associated diagnoses are arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia, and atrial fibrillation. In younger patients and in the absence of risk factors, a search for rarer causes should be carried out giant cell arteritis in particular should be excluded. Noninvasive ventilation (NIV) is established as an integral part of intensive care therapy for respiratory insufficiency. However, it is associated with restrictions on patient autonomy and comfort. A successful course of therapy is largely dependent on the acceptance and adherence of the patients concerned. Intensive care nurses can have a significant influence on the success of the therapy by dealing with the subjective experience of the patients and by maintaining close contact with them. The prerequisite for this is profound knowledge of the different technical aspects of therapy and equipment as well as positive and negative factors influencing NIV tolerance in order to be able to offer and implement an individual intervention., (© 2021. The year 2020 is the year of care on the occasion of the 200th birthday of Florence Nightingale. However, due to current events, the "Year of Corona" will be remembered more. A positive aspect is the attention and appreciation of the nursing profession in the population. Nevertheless, politicians and various professional groups in the hospital limit nursing care almost exclusively to practical activities that are directly necessary for the patients. A clearly noticeable improvement in working conditions for nurses as a result of the political efforts of this legislative period has so far failed to materialise to the same extent as the active involvement of nurses in political decisions and resolutions that directly affect the professional group. The rapid build-up of bed capacities has made it possible to provide the patients concerned with the necessary intensive medical care. In many places, however, this has been at the expense of the nurses and physicians, some of whom have had to work without the necessary training, with insufficient protective equipment and in unfamiliar areas. These problems continue to exist even after months of the covid-19 crisis.The Nursing Section of the DGIIN expressly declares its willingness to actively and constructively participate in any processes in the future and, with the following 5 points, offers initial practical assistance to improve the situation in German intensive care units.

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are considered the most promising candidates to replace Cu and Al in a large number of electrical, mechanical and thermal applications. Although most CNT industrial applications require macro and micro size CNT fiber assemblies, several techniques to make conducting CNT fibers, threads, yarns and ropes have been reported to this day, and improvement of their electrical and mechanical conductivity continues. Some electrical applications of these CNT conducting fibers require an insulating layer for electrical insulation and protection against mechanical tearing. Ideally, a flexible insulator such as hydrogenated nitrile butadiene rubber (HNBR) on the CNT fiber can allow fabrication of CNT coils that can be assembled into lightweight, corrosion resistant electrical motors and transformers. HNBR is a largely used commercial polymer that unlike other cable-coating polymers such as polyvinyl chloride (PVC), it provides unique continuous and uniform coating on the CNT fibers. The polymer coated/insulated CNT fibers have a 26.54 μm average diameter-which is approximately four times the diameter of a red blood cell-is produced by a simple dip-coating process. Our results confirm that HNBR in solution creates a few microns uniform insulation and mechanical protection over a CNT fiber that is used as the electrically conducting core.
