Background Cytochrome P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) is an important enzyme in the metabolism of many drugs, including NSAIDs, antidepressants and anticoagulants. In vitro and in vivo studies have demonstrated that CYP2C9 polymorphisms modify the activity of the enzyme and subsequently the metabolism of different drugs. Objective To characterize the diclofenac pharmacokinetics in healthy subjects with the wild type form of CYP2C9 genotype. Methods Twenty five healthy women were included in the study; a single dose of diclofenac (50 mg) was administered orally. Pharmacokinetic analyses at 12 different times were performed. DNA was extracted from peripheral blood and analyzed through direct sequencing. The CYP2C9*1/*1 allele was found in all subjects. Using the AUC 0-inf parameter, we classified the 25 volunteers as poor, intermediate and extensive metabolizer (2285.421/3217.442/4637.450, respectively). We detected statistical significant differences between the groups, especially between poor metabolizers versus intermediate and extensive metabolizers. Conclusions This data indicate that CYP2C9 is not the only enzyme responsible of the metabolism of diclofenac, so it is important to analyze other cytochromes and their variants potentially involved in the metabolism of this drug.

to determine the relationship between the abdominal obesity and cardiovascular risk factors in apparently healthy subjects from Mexico City.a total of 186 apparently healthy men and nonpregnant women from Mexico City, were enrolled in a cross-sectional study. A detailed medical history and physical examination were performed. Abdominal obesity was defined by waist circumferenceor = 80 cm for women andor = 90 cm for men.a total of 125 women (67.2 %) and 61 men (32.8 %) were enrolled. Of them, 151 (81.2 %) had insulin resistance and 130 (69.9 %) abdominal obesity. Among obese subjects 96 (46.2 %) showed metabolic syndrome. There were a high prevalence of hypertriglyceridemia (31 %) and low serum levels of HDL-cholesterol (58 %).the used cut point for abdominal obesity, despite identifying a high proportion of subjects with cardiovascular risk, did not recognize a high proportion of subjects with disorders in their lipid profile.

Vulvovaginitis caused by Candida sp is one of the most frequent infections.To culture and to identify the fungi related to clinical manifestations of patients based on a suspected diagnosis of vulvovaginal candidiasis.A prospective, transversal and comparative study was performed on 181 women older than 18 years with vulvovaginitis by Candida sp. A correlation was made between the clinical characteristics of this entity and mycological tests such as direct examination and cultures.The direct exam or fresh vaginal exam and cervical sample was positive for the different microscopic forms of Candida (blastoconidia, pseudohyphye or pseudomycelia) in 60.8% (110 women); at the same time that cultures were positive for Candida sp in 51.9% (94 patients).The direct examination and the cultures of vaginal and cervical exudate are mandatory tests for diagnosis of Candida sp in women with vulvovaginitis.

In the following document a case and control study carried out in the Hospital General de Mexico is presented. The research obtained and analyzed facts related to social and cultural issues, as well as the obstetrics and gynecologist background, stating for each one of them, the relative risk and its statistical meaning with a trust degree of 95%. All of these aspects are considered critical causes for the development of cervix and uterine cancer. The results demonstrated that the scholar degree, the age in which the patients started sexual activity, the number of sexual partners, the number of births, the age in which the first birth occurred, and the smoking habits are facts that influence the natural evolution of this disease and should be considered as important background.

Por medio de la cromotagrafia en fase de vapor se analizaron 37 muestras de tíner, obtenidas de diversos establecimientos comerciales tanto del Distrito Federal como de algunos Estados de la República Mexicana. Se notó gran variabilidad en la formulación tanto en la cantidad de componentes (entre 7 y 35) como en su concentración, indicando que no existe una norma que determine las características del producto. El tolueno fue el único que se observó en todas las muestras y su concentración varió de 7 a 77 %. El porcentaje de frecuencia de otros agentes químicos como metanol, hcxano, acetona y benceno fue de 90,87,87 y 68%, respectivjunente, y sus concentraciones variaron desde 0.02 a 60.0%. En el 98% de las muestras hubo compuestos no identificados en cantidades de 0.02 a 38.20%. La presencia del tolueno y su alta concentración en todos los casos, posiblemente sea el factor principal causante de las alteraciones psíquicas, neurofisiológicas y conductuales, así como de los efectos tóxicos descritos en farmacodependientes y en trabajadores expuestos al tíner, aunque no se descarta la participación de otras sustancias en la producción de los mismos.
