7. Rehabilitación de la motricidad de la extremidad inferior basada en estimulación eléctrica funcional y realidad virtual en personas con ictus: protocolo de estudio

Abstract

Objective: Evaluate the effectiveness of combining functional electrical stimulation with virtual reality in the recovery of lower limb functionality in people with stroke. Methods: Randomized clinical trial with control group (double blind). Various scales are used to collect data, such as: Berg Balance Scale, Timed Up and Go or Stroke Impact Scale, among others. The study will last 10 weeks in which 2 evaluations will be carried out: initial and post-treatment. The sample will be made up of people with stroke. Discussion: It is expected that the combination of these approaches will improve the functionality of the lower limbs and consequently their quality of life and participation., Objetivos: evaluar la efectividad de la combinación de la estimulación eléctrica funcional con realidad virtual en la recuperación de la funcionalidad de miembros inferiores en personas con ictus. Métodos: ensayo clínico aleatorizado con grupo control (doble ciego). Para la recogida de datos se emplean diversas escalas como: Berg Balance Scale, Timed Up and Go o Stroke Impact Scale entre otras. El estudio durará 10 semanas en las que se realizarán 2 evaluaciones: inicial y postratamiento. La muestra estará formada por personas con ictus. Discusión: se espera que la combinación de estos abordajes mejore la funcionalidad de los miembros inferiores y consecuentemente su calidad de vida y participación.

Abstract

In patients with compensated advanced chronic liver disease (cACLD), risk of clinically significant portal hypertension (CSPH) can be estimated by applying non-invasive tests such as liver stiffness measurement (LSM), platelet count, and, in some cases, BMI. We aimed to assess the diagnostic utility of spleen stiffness measurement (SSM) at 100 Hz as a standalone non-invasive test for CSPH and to evaluate its incremental value compared with the ANTICIPATE±NASH model in patients with cACLD.

Abstract

Objective: Effectiveness evaluation of the combination of functional electrical stimulation and mirror therapy in the recovery of the upper limb function in people with stroke. Methods: Pre- post case study in a person with stroke. Various scales were used for data collection, such as: Functional Independence Measure, Motor Activity Log, Box & Blocks Test or Abilhand, among others. The intervention lasted 8 weeks in which 3 weekly sessions were held, making a total of 24 sessions. The assessments were done pre- and post-treatment. Discussion: The combination of these techniques or approaches has proven to be effective, improving the functionality of the upper extremity and, consequently, the quality of life and Independence of a person with stroke., Objetivos: evaluar la efectividad de la combinación de la estimulación eléctrica funcional y terapia en espejo en la recuperación de la función de la extremidad superior en personas con un accidente cerebro vascular. Métodos: estudio de caso pre- post en una persona con accidente cerebro vascular. Para la recogida de datos se han empleado diversas escalas como: Functional Independence Measure, Motor Activity Log, Box & Blocks Test o Abilhand entre otras. La intervención duró 8 semanas en las que se realizaron 3 sesiones semanales, sumando un total de 24 sesiones. Las evaluaciones se hicieron pre- y post-tratamiento. Discusión: la combinación de estas técnicas o abordajes ha demostrado ser eficaz, mejorando la funcionalidad de la extremidad superior y, consecuentemente, su calidad de vida e independencia de una persona que sufrió un accidente cerebro vascular.

11. Improvement of Motor Imagination and Manual Ability Through Virtual Reality and Selective and Nonselective Functional Electrical Stimulation: Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Trial.

Abstract

Background: Motor imagery (MI) is a cognitive process that has been shown to be useful in the rehabilitation process after brain injury. Moreover, functional electrical stimulation (FES) and virtual reality (VR) have also been shown to be effective interventions in many parameters, and there is some evidence of their contribution to the improvement of MI capacity. Objective: This study aimed to compare the improvements in MI parameters, grip strength, and manual dexterity obtained using VR, FES, and selective FES based on multifield electrodes in healthy people. Methods: This clinical randomized controlled trial (RCT)with 4 branches will involve 80 healthy university students, with blinded third-party assessment. Participants will be divided into 4 groups: control (no intervention), selective FES (Fesia Grasp), traditional FES (Globus Elite), and Virtual Rehab Hands (Leap Motion sensor). Each group will receive 5 daily sessions, and assessments will be conducted at baseline, postintervention, and follow-up. The Movement Imagery Questionnaire-Revised (MIQ-RS) and chronometry will be used to assess MI, strength will be measured with a digital dynamometer, and manual dexterity will be evaluated with the Nine Hole Peg Test (NHPT) and the Box and Block Test (BBT). Statistical analyses will include 2-way repeated-measures ANOVA with post hoc Bonferroni correction to compare group differences over time, with nonparametric tests (eg, Kruskal-Wallis) being used if normality or variance assumptions are violated. The study will be organized into 3 phases: preparation, data collection, and analysis. The preparation phase will involve finalizing project protocols and obtaining ethical approvals. The data collection phase will consist of recruiting participants, randomizing them into 4 intervention groups, and conducting baseline assessments, followed by intervention sessions. Finally, the analysis phase will focus on evaluating the data collected from all groups and compiling the results for presentation. Results: The study received approval in July 2023, with recruitment and data collection starting in September 2023. The recruitment phase was expected to conclude by July 2024, and the entire study, including the 2-week follow-up, was set to finish in September 2024. As of July 2024, we had enrolled 100% of the sample (N=80 students). We plan to publish the study findings by the end of 2024. Conclusions: Improvements in MI and upper limb functionality are expected, particularly in the selective FES group. This RCT will identify which intervention is most effective in enhancing these skills, with potential benefits for patients with neurological motor disorders. Abstract

Currently, a high percentage of the world’s population lives in urban areas, and this proportion will increase in the coming decades. In this context, indoor positioning systems (IPSs) have been a topic of great interest for researchers. On the other hand, Visible Light Communication (VLC) systems have advantages over RF technologies; for instance, they do not need satellite signals or the absence of electromagnetic interference to achieve positioning. Nowadays, in the context of Indoor Positioning (IPS), Visible Light Positioning (VLP) systems have become a strong alternative to RF-based systems, allowing the reduction in costs and time to market. This paper shows a low cost VLP solution for indoor systems. This includes multiple programmable beacons and a receiver which can be plugged to a smartphone running a specific app. The position information will be quickly and securely available through the interchange between the receiver and any configurable LED-beacon which is strategically disposed in an area. The implementation is simple, inexpensive, and no direct communication with any data server is required. Abstract

El trabajo realizado trata sobre una propuesta de sonorización del Polideportivo Ignacio Pinedo, ubicado en el Centro Deportivo Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, en el campus de Getafe. Como parte importante del trabajo se ha desarrollado un modelo software del recinto que permite simular el comportamiento del mismo, evaluando la bondad de la sonorización propuesta. El contenido del trabajo se divide en varias partes: una parte teórica, en la que se exponen los conceptos fundamentales en los que se basa este trabajo, una parte más práctica, en la que se llevan a cabo tanto el modelado del recinto como el diseño del refuerzo sonoro y su simulación, y, por último, una parte dedicada al análisis del marco regulador y el entorno socio-económico. El contenido teórico del trabajo se compone de tres capítulos, en los cuales se desarrollan los conceptos necesarios para poder llevar a cabo el estudio acústico del recinto (Capítulo 2), establecer los objetivos a cumplir con la sonorización (Capítulo 3) y analizar las características técnicas de las agrupaciones de altavoces en línea, más conocidas mediante el término anglosajón line arrays (Capítulo 4). La siguiente parte del trabajo está dedicada al modelado del recinto (Capítulo 5) y al diseño y simulación del refuerzo sonoro (Capítulos 6 y 7). En primer lugar, se describe detalladamente el proceso seguido para construir mediante el software EASE un modelo del recinto en el cual se va a llevar a cabo la sonorización, para analizar posteriormente las prestaciones del refuerzo sonoro diseñado en un entorno lo más parecido posible a la realidad. Posteriormente se lleva a cabo el diseño del refuerzo sonoro mediante el software EASE Focus, y por último se analizan los resultados observando su comportamiento en el recinto modelado con EASE, comprobando si se cumplen los objetivos impuestos. Tras la obtención de los resultados se extraen conclusiones y se determinan trabajos futuros (Capítulo 8). La última parte del trabajo está dedicada al análisis del marco regulador y el entorno socio-económico relacionado con la realización de este trabajo (Capítulo 9).
