With the objective of learning the criteria about the content of the courses that integrate the Master of Science Program in Pastures and Forages, of the EEPF "Indio Hatuey", a diagnosis process was developed, by means of the application of surveys to former students and to professors of the Master program, as well as to professors and researchers of centers of higher education and institutions of science and technological innovation. The surveyed professionals coincided in the need to update such content, according to the advances in the national and international livestock production sector, and suggested the inclusion of new topics and/or courses. The contributions of the Academic Committee members and the bibliography review allowed to formulate a proposal of new structure and content of the Master program, integrated by a group of knowledge pieces closely related among themselves: 1) a basic module (Scientific bases for research): a module of general formation (Fundamentals for the development of agroecological livestock production); two specialization modules, depending on the research topic of the Master program student: 1) Agronomy of pastures and forages; 2) Agroecological systems of animal production. It is concluded that such proposal could contribute to update the thematic content, and its Academic Committee is recommended to consider these results and introduce the modifications proposed, with the objective of guaranteeing a better performance of the graduate Masters in their professional activity. Con el objetivo de conocer los criterios acerca del contenido de los cursos que integran la Maestría en Pastos y Forrajes, de la EEPF "Indio Hatuey", se desarrolló un proceso de diagnóstico mediante la aplicación de encuestas a egresados y a profesores de la Maestría, así como a profesores e investigadores de centros de educación superior y entidades de ciencia e innovación tecnológica. Los encuestados coincidieron en que es necesario actualizar dicho contenido, acorde con los avances en el sector agropecuario a nivel nacional e internacional, y sugirieron la inclusión de nuevos temas y/o cursos. Los aportes de los miembros del Comité Académico y la consulta de bibliografía permitieron formular una propuesta de nueva estructura y contenido de la Maestría, integrada por un conjunto de conocimientos estrechamente relacionados entre sí: 1) un diplomado básico (Bases científicas para la investigación); un diplomado de formación general (Fundamentos para el desarrollo de una ganadería agroecológica); dos diplomados de especialización, en dependencia del tema de investigación del maestrante: 1) Agronomía de los pastos y forrajes; 2) Sistemas agroecológicos de producción animal. Se concluye que dicha propuesta puede contribuir a la actualización del contenido temático y al perfeccionamiento de la Maestría, y se recomienda a su Comité Académico tener en consideración estos resultados e introducir las modificaciones propuestas en el plan de estudios, con la finalidad de garantizar un mejor desempeño de los egresados en su actividad profesional. The objective of this work was to evaluate the excellence index of the Pastos y Forrajes journal. For that an adaptation was made of the methodology for the determination of the excellence level of the organization of production in industrial enterprises and the evaluation criteria of the Permanent Commission of Publications of the Cuban Academy of Sciences and those of the Editorial Board of the journal were taken into consideration. The excellence index of the journal reached 75,6% in 1999 and 77,7% in 2007. According to the results it is concluded that the methodology allowed to determine the critical indicators; in addition, a program of continuous improvement was enhanced to achieve excellence.
