The article deals with the issues of “responsible” design of eco-linens made of natural fibers. Based on the analysis, the influence of the stiffness of fabrics on their technological and consumer properties was established. The influence of the type of weaving of linen fabrics on the bending stiffness has been established. It is shown that the dependences of the warp and weft stiffness indices on the weave coefficients are linear. The power-law dependence of the coefficients of stiffness of the fabric on the coefficients of the connection of threads in the weave is revealed. A qualitative substantiation of the nature of the obtained dependences is given. It is proposed to predict the stiffness of flax-cotton fabrics according to the characteristics of the weave on the basis of the cohesiveness coefficient of the threads in the weave and the weave coefficient. The results of the study allow designing fabrics with the required stiffness indicators.

Background. Postponed coronavirus infection (COVID-19), accompanied by an immunosuppressive state and associated with the risk of secondary diseases such as mucormycosis. Diabetes mellitus is an independent risk factor for both severe COVID-19 and mucormycosis. Aims our aim was to experience the diagnosis and treatment of rhino-orbitocerebral mucormycosis in post-COVID-19 patients. Materials. A single-center, observational, non-randomized, cohort comparative study was conducted. We assessed the clinical features, risk factors, diagnosis and outcomes of mucormycosis among recovered COVID-19 patients with hospitalisation in the otorhinolaryngology department of the Samara State Medical University Clinics, Samara, from SeptemberDecember 2021. CT examinations were performed on Revolution EVO CT scanner (GE, Russia) and MRI on Aera MR scanner 1.5 T (Siemens, Germany). Materials for microbiological and histopathological examination were taken from all examined patients intraoperatively. Results. The experience of diagnosing and treating rhinoorbitocerebral mucormycosis in patients after a new coronavirus infection was analyzed, the influence of the complex use of radiation diagnostic methods, histopathological and microbiological methods on the development and effectiveness of mucormycosis treatment was determined. Conclusions. The effectiveness of disease management directly depends on the early initiation of etiotropic treatment, while the role of complex radiological diagnostics, histopathological and microbiological methods is important for early confirmation of the fungal etiology of the disease.

A unique controlled laser head with an adaptive module was developed to stabilize the trajectory of movement. The scientific and practical problem of developing a technology for restoring the inner surface of a small diameter up to ∅44 mm was solved by the introduction of a laser head. Adhesion was achieved by moving the laser along the vectors, forming a regular pyramid with opening angles at the top. High physical and mechanical properties of the restored pump surface were achieved by the laser technology when spraying powder composition 15Cr17Ni12V3F35ZrO2. The optimal values of the microhardness of the coating of 5000 MPa were achieved due to the optimal transition melting zone of 0.8 ÷ 1.45 mm; the laser radiation power density of 3 × 105 W/cm2; and the diameter of the focus spot of the laser beam of up to 1.3 mm. High corrosion resistance and tribology were achieved by an optimally matched distance of 10 ÷ 15 mm and a surfacing speed of 15 mm/s. Homogeneous spheroidized particles of the material were observed in the martensitic phase of the structure. The stable compression stresses in the phase structure during the laser deposition of zirconium dioxide were fixed at the level of 1.0 ÷ 1.5 N/m2, and the compression stresses were at the level of 0.2 ÷ 0.4 N/m2. A multifactorial experiment established the dependence of the coating hardness on the distance to the focal plane and the energy characteristics of the laser source, providing optimal laser parameters (area, pulse power, and duration).

The article presents the results of studies of the rigidity of the structure of linen fabrics by an automated method for determining the shear characteristics, which allows implement changes in the angles between the warp and weft threads and a graphical record of the process of thread shear and recovery after shear by means of specially developed software. A method implemented by a specially developed computer program Neuro-Prognosis has been developed for forecasting. An example of predicting the rigidity of the structure of linen fabrics by the characteristics of their structure is given.

In the new media era, the educational institutions and museums gained the opportunity to interact more extensively in learning and cultural education areas. The use of the latest technologies gave impetus to the emergence of new cooperation forms between museums and educational organizations. For all the school students, this opens up access to the modern ways of studying culture, getting experience, expressing themselves, communicating. This also creates educational opportunities for teachers by enriching their methodology portfolio, while helping increase museum attendance and making museums more open and accessible. Still, despite the growing accessibility of the innovative technology solutions, the lack of well-defined common goals and collaboration objectives prevents the widespread use of the innovative forms of joint work between museums and educational institutions. This inconsistency necessitates the discovering and outlining the most widely used collaboration models and ways of their practical implementation that already have proven their efficiency. The article describes the aplication of some of the most commonly used collaboration models, such as “museum-lesson”, “mobile museum”, “virtual museum”, and “museum exhibit in project-based work”, carried out both by major Russian state museums and lesser-known ones in small towns. Apart from the benefits achieved by using the models, the article outlines some potential risks in implementing them as well as offers organizational and management strategies for minimizing certain risks.

In connection with the transition to a two-tier system of training and educational programs development according to the new Federal State Educational Sandards it is necessary to improve measurement and control tools. The article gives special attention to the development of specific diagnostic tests for monitoring competences formation. The main objective of such tests is that the student, performing suggested tasks, is involved into active thinking and is to make informed decisions when problems occur. Their main aim is not to measure the relevant knowledge but to assess his level of understanding and professional thinking. The research work is relevant due to contradiction between the necessity to control the level of different competences formation and insufficient development of techniques for their assessment. The article presents an algorithm for development of tests in foreign languages, taking into account the provisions of the Common European competences. The paper is concerned with the possibilities the learning management system Moodle in the control of competencies formation of bachelor students of the Faculty of Foreign Languages by means of modern facilities. Built-in test system in Moodle provides a great opportunity for creating on-line tests with the following approaches: direct addition of the test in the course, followed by the supplement of test items, and creating new test based on a bank of questions.

While many physiological control models exist in the literature, none thus far has focused on characterizing the interactions among the respiratory, cardiovascular and sleep-wake regulation systems that occur in sleep-disordered breathing. The model introduced in this study integrates the autonomic control of the cardiovascular system, chemoreflex and state-related control of respiration, including respiratory and upper airway mechanics, along with a model of circadian and sleep-wake regulation. The integrative model provides realistic predictions of the physiological responses under a variety of conditions including: the sleep-wake cycle, hypoxia-induced periodic breathing, Cheyne-Stokes respiration in chronic heart failure, and obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA). It can be used to investigate the effects of a variety of interventions, such as isocapnic and hypercapnic and/or hypoxic gas administration, the Valsalva and Mueller maneuvers, and the application of continuous positive airway pressure on OSA subjects. By being able to delineate the influences of the various interacting physiological mechanisms, the model is useful in providing a more lucid understanding of the complex dynamics that characterize state-cardiorespiratory control in the different forms of sleep-disordered breathing.

We report a method for accurate recovery of tissue intrinsic fluorescence emission characteristics, including fluorescence lifetimes and spectral profiles, from complex two-dimensional (spectro-temporal) emission waveforms. Most algorithms for analysis of fluorescence data address separately the characteristics of either spectral emission or fluorescence relaxation time. We developed a novel nonparametric analytical method that allows for identification and estimation of the intrinsic Fluorescent Impulse Response Kernel (FIRK) simultaneously in time and wavelength dimensions. Modeling of FIRK was based on the characteristics of spectro-temporal fluorescence waveforms. Due to the decaying behavior of the fluorescence, a linear combination of discrete Laguerre functions was used to model the fluorescence response in time. To address the large variability of spectral profiles of distinct fluorophores, a discrete Fourier series expansion was used to model the variation of fluorescence intensity across wavelength. The proposed method was validated on synthetic fluorescence data and data measured from fluorescence lifetime standards and tissue endogenous fluorescent biomolecules. We determined that this method provides a direct recovery of the two-dimensional FIRK and accurate estimation (residual error < 6%) of a broad range of fluorescence lifetimes including the sub-nanosecond range. The FIRK retrieved using this method can further facilitate modeling and recognition of pathological and physiological conditions in tissues.

In a previous study, we introduced PNEUMA, a physiologically realistic comprehensive model incorporating the respiratory, cardiovascular and neural control systems, aimed at characterizing cardiorespiratory mechanisms during sleep disordered breathing. The goal of this study was to integrate the pulsatile heart and comprehensive pulmonary and systemic circulation components into the existing PNEUMA model for investigation of the cardiovascular regulation mechanisms leading to heart period fluctuations. All model parameters were given on the basis of actual physiological data from literature. The autoregressive spectral analysis was performed to evaluate model generated RR intervals: the results of spectral analysis of RR intervals suggest that our model correctly accounts for major key aspects of autonomic control that are known to contribute into RR variability.

Current state of the knowledge in the field of optical diagnostics indicates that application of both steady state and time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy permits the discrimination among normal and pathological tissues. Most data analysis algorithms, however, separately address either the spectral profile of the fluorescence emission or the time domain features of fluorescence decay of tissue sample. We present a novel system identification technique that allows for intrinsic Fluorescent Impulse Response Kernel (FIRK) estimation in combined time and wavelength spaces. The fluorescence experiment is described as a discrete two-dimensional single input - single output system. Modeling of FIRK is based on the characteristics of spectro-temporal fluorescence waveforms. Taking advantage of the exponentially decaying temporal behavior of the fluorescent output, we use a linear combination of Laguerre functions to model the fluorescence response as a function of time. To address the large variability of spectral profiles from different biological samples, we use the discrete Fourier series expansion to model the variation of fluorescence intensity across wavelength. The validation of the proposed approach is performed on simulated fluorescence data and fluorescence data measured from fluorescence lifetime standards. The algorithm is applicable for an effective recovery of intrinsic FIRK from any excitation light probe spectro-temporal waveforms. The retrieved FIRK can be further used for modeling and/or classification of pathological and physiological conditions of tissues.

Genetic immunization may be one way to prime individuals for a subsequent broad anti-HIV-1 immune response. Reverse transcriptase of HIV-1 (RT) presents a selective target for attempts to arrest replication of HIV-1. Rabbits immunized with a plasmid carrying the gene for reverse transcriptase HIV-1 (RT DNA) developed potent antibody and cellular responses to the gene product. The immunogenic properties of RT DNA and recombinant reverse transcriptase were compared in rabbits. The specific immune responses were similar to those reported previously for HIV-1 infected humans. The array of B and T cell epitopes recognized in RT DNA-immunized rabbits was broader than in rabbits immunized with the recombinant RT. We localized seven novel B and T cell epitopes and concordance between B cell and helper T cell epitopes was observed. B cell epitopes of RT induced proliferation of peripheral blood mononuclear cells and were active as helper T cell epitopes. T cell-proliferative responses to the epitopes of RT preceded or paralleled the production of antibodies of the same specificity. Subdomains of reverse transcriptase involved in the enzymatic activity of RT were highly immunogenic. Anti-RT IgG partially inhibited reverse transcription in vitro.

The holographic disc is a high capacity, disk-based data storage device that can provide the performance for next generation mass data storage needs. With a projected capacity approaching 1 terabit on a single 12 cm platter, the holographic disc has the potential to become a highly efficient storage hardware for data warehousing applications. The high readout rate of holographic disc makes it especially suitable for generating multiple, high bandwidth data streams such as required for network server computers. Multimedia applications such as interactive video and HDTV can also potentially benefit from the high capacity and fast data access of holographic memory.

The issue of interfacing holographic memory with an electronic processor is discussed. The high speed and parallel access of 2D, page formatted optical data from holographic memory can be utilized to reconfigure an electronic processor at a rate much faster than traditionally available. This new technique could be the stepping stone to a new class of high performance device for a variety of image/signal processing tasks. We will first give a review of the holographic memory activity at Holoplex, in particular, our research on holographic optical disk as a read-only memory device. We will then discuss the optical architecture for interfacing an optical ROM with a programmable gate array processor.
