Abstract

The rapid growth of the stock market has attracted many investors due to its potential for significant profits. However, predicting stock prices accurately is difficult because financial markets are complex and constantly changing. This is especially true for the cryptocurrency market, which is known for its extreme volatility, making it challenging for traders and investors to make wise and profitable decisions. This study introduces a machine learning approach to predict cryptocurrency prices. Specifically, we make use of important technical indicators such as Exponential Moving Average (EMA) and Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) to train and feed the XGBoost regressor model. We demonstrate our approach through an analysis focusing on the closing prices of Bitcoin cryptocurrency. We evaluate the model's performance through various simulations, showing promising results that suggest its usefulness in aiding/guiding cryptocurrency traders and investors in dynamic market conditions., Comment: 9 pages, 3 figures, 4 tables, submitted to the 43rd IEEE International Performance Computing and Communications Conference (IPCCC 2024)

Abstract

This research aims to describe a case study of the application of the circular economy of steel in a steel industry, demonstrating the impacts on economic, social and environmental sustainability. The methodology employed included a case study with stages of literature review, field investigation and analysis of collected data. The results demonstrated the positive impacts of the business model in the context of the circular economy, with the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 50% compared to the global average; 8.90% reduction in energy spent during steel manufacturing from 2019 to 2020, despite the 5.53% increase in production in the year. It should be noted that each year a greater percentage of waste is reused, with a maximum value of 78.88% in 2020. The main contribution of this work consists in the systematization of the actions that characterize the circular economy in the steel industry, through which it encourages sustainable processes in the civil construction industry, The sector can be one of the drivers of the transition to a circular economy by reducing the consumption of raw materials and energy, in addition to greenhouse gas emissions, increasing profitability and having a sustainable approach.

32. The Influence of Recombinant Bovine Somatotropin (rbST) on the Metabolic Profile and Milk Composition of Lactating Murrah Buffalo

Abstract

The use of recombinant bovine somatotropin (rbST) leads to an increase in variable amounts of milk production in buffalo, but there is a lack of information on the influence of rbST on their metabolism. This study looked at the effects of a single 500 mg dose of rbST on the lipid profile, liver and kidney function, and physical, chemical, and cellular constitution of milk in 14 buffalo over 14 days, from the 100th day of lactation, compared with 14 animals in a control group. From the first day after rbST, there was a rise in beta-hydroxybutyrate (β-HBO), possibly due to higher dry matter intake or the biotransformation of NEFA into β-HBO. The treatment did not influence blood glucose, non-esterified fatty acids (NEFAs), triglycerides, cholesterol, total protein, albumin, AST, GGT, bilirubin, urea, or creatinine levels. In 71.3% of the buffalo, there was a gradual increase in milk production, with the maximal response occurring in the first week followed by a gradual decrease, whilst in 21.4%, the increase in production occurred between 7 and 10 days. Only 7.1% of the animals did not respond. On the 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 10th days after treatment, an increase was found in daily milk production between the two groups equal to 1.04, 1.52, 1.42, and 1.06 L, respectively. In relative terms, this means an increase in milk production, respectively, of 15.1%, 21.0%, 19.8%, and 15.1%. The constitution of the milk showed no difference in the amounts of fat, lactose, total solids, or somatic cell count; however, on the third day after rbST administration, there was a decrease in protein. Notably, from the fifth day, the protein values showed no statistical difference. It can be concluded that the use of rbST in buffalo from the 100th day of lactation is metabolically safe since the treatment neither caused imbalances in fat metabolism nor overloaded the liver or renal function, and the changes in milk composition were transient and limited to a decrease in milk protein.

Abstract

A given dose of hypoxia causes a greater increase in pulmonary ventilation during physical exercise than during rest, representing an exercise‐induced potentiation of the acute hypoxic ventilatory response (HVR). This phenomenon occurs independently from hypoxic blood entering the contracting skeletal muscle circulation or metabolic byproducts leaving skeletal muscles, supporting the contention that neural mechanisms per se can mediate the HVR when humoral mechanisms are not at play. However, multiple neural mechanisms might be interacting intricately. First, we discuss the neural mechanisms involved in the ventilatory response to hypoxic exercise and their potential interactions. Current evidence does not support an interaction between the carotid chemoreflex and central command. In contrast, findings from some studies support synergistic interactions between the carotid chemoreflex and the muscle mechano‐ and metaboreflexes. Second, we propose hypotheses about potential mechanisms underlying neural interactions, including spatial and temporal summation of afferent signals into the medulla, short‐term potentiation and sympathetically induced activation of the carotid chemoreceptors. Lastly, we ponder how exercise‐induced potentiation of the HVR results in hyperventilation‐induced hypocapnia, which influences cerebral blood flow regulation, with multifaceted potential consequences, including deleterious (increased central fatigue and impaired cognitive performance), inert (unchanged exercise) and beneficial effects (protection against excessive cerebral perfusion).
