Abstract

Multi-spectral imaging of helium atomic emission (HeMSI) has been used to create 2D poloidal maps of T e and n e in TCV’s divertor. To achieve these measurements, TCV’s MANTIS multispectral cameras (Perek et al 2019 Rev. Sci. Instrum. 90 123514) simultaneously imaged four He I lines (two singlet and two triplet) and a He II line (468 nm) from passively present He and He+. The images, which were absolutely calibrated and covered the whole divertor region, were inverted through the assumption of toroidal symmetry to create emissivity profiles and, consequently, line-ratio profiles. A collisional-radiative model (CRM) was applied to the line-ratio profiles to produce 2D poloidal maps of T e and n e . The collisional-radiative modeling was accomplished with the Goto helium CRM code (Zholobenko et al 2018 Nucl. Fusion 58 126006, Zholobenko et al 2018 Technical Report, Goto 2003 J. Quant. Spectrosc. Radiat. Transfer 76 331–44) which accounts for electron-impact excitation (EIE) and deexcitation, and electron–ion recombination (EIR) with He + . The HeMSI T e and n e measurements were compared with co-local Thomson scattering measurements. The two sets of measurements exhibited good agreement for ionizing plasmas: ( 5 eV ⩽ T e ⩽ 60 eV , and 2 × 10 18 m − 3 ⩽ n e ⩽ 3 × 10 19 m − 3 ) in the case of majority helium plasmas, and ( 10 eV ⩽ T e ⩽ 40 eV , 2 × 10 18 m − 3 ⩽ n e ⩽ 3 × 10 19 m − 3 ) in the case of majority deuterium plasmas. However, there were instances where HeMSI measurements diverged from Thomson scattering. When T e ⩽ 10 eV in majority deuterium plasmas, HeMSI deduced inaccurately high values of T e . This disagreement cannot be rectified within the CRM’s EIE and EIR framework. Second, on sporadic occasions within the private flux region, HeMSI produced erroneously high measurements of n e . Multi-spectral imaging of Helium emission has been demonstrated to produce accurate 2D poloidal maps of T e and n e within the divertor of a tokamak for plasma conditions relevant to contemporary divertor studies.

Abstract

This contribution presents preliminary results of the validation of state-of-the-art turbulence codes against well-diagnosed experiments in the TCV tokamak. The simulations were carried out by GBS, GRILLIX, and TOKAM3X codes for a Lower Single-Null (LSN) L-mode attached TCV plasma and, for the first time, in realistic size. The scenario depicted in the simulations was developed in the TCV tokamak and was optimized for this validation exercise. In the following, the level-of-agreement and comparisons of selected profiles are discussed.

14. Investigation of chronic infection by Leptospira spp. in asymptomatic sheep slaughtered in slaughterhouse

Abstract

The study aimed to evaluate the histopathological characteristics of renal lesions in chronically infected sheep and with low titers of anti-Leptospira antibodies from a slaughterhouse. In the serological analysis, 24.74% (48/194) presented seroreactivity with a titer equal to or greater than 100. Among these seroreactive sheep, titers of 100 were predominant (58.33%, 28/48), with the highest titer being 1,600 (2.08%, 1/48). Serogroup Sejroe (sv. Hardjo) was the most frequent at 35.42% (17/48). Leptospiral DNA was verified in 4.12% (8/194) of the kidney samples tested, and no urine sample was positive. All the samples corresponded to the pathogenic species L. interrogans. The eight amplicons with 202-nucleotides were identical with two mismatches (presented 100% of identity) using the PCR targeting to secY gene. Histological sections of PCR-positive kidneys were submitted to direct detection by the anti-LipL32 immunohistochemistry (IHC) technique. The Leptospira spp. antigen was evident in 62.5% (5/8) of the kidneys. Positive staining was observed in the cytoplasm of tubular cells and in the form of brownish aggregates that adhered to tubular epithelial cells and projected into the lumen. Inflammatory lymphoplasmacytic infiltrate, ranging from mild to moderate, with multifocal distribution, was the predominant finding in seroreactive animals (33.33%, 16/48). The demonstration of the leptospiral antigen lining the renal tubules through IHC of naturally infected sheep confirmed by PCR characterizes renal colonization in a species with the presence of histological changes compatible with leptospirosis.

Abstract

Considering that the human being is in a universe where the population demand for consumer goods is rapidly growing, the United Nations (UN) concluded that the effective implementation of the use of renewable resources has a nearing deadline. As a result of population growth, a massive waste is generated, especially sewage, requiring adjustments in its disposal, treatment and final disposal. Based on this information, it must be highlighted that the generation of municipal waste due to the sewer, with a significant production of biogas and of sludge, presents major environmental problem due to their volume, size and features. This work points out that the ash of the wastewater sludge can have a more productive destination if used as an alternative material of construction. The research was divided into three stages. In the first stage, it was sample preparation sludge performed; in the second one, burning procedures were designed, and, in the third one, physical-chemical and mineralogical tests for the sewage sludge ash were made, seeking to assess the feasibility of using this residue in mortar and in concrete. According to the conducted studies, it was observed that there is a potential pozzolanic reactivity when using this material as a mineral admixture for Portland cement replacement.

27. AloeExtracts, Pro and Antioxidant Conditions in Regeneration of the Planarian Girardia tigrina

Abstract

AbstractThe regeneration of the planarian Girardia tigrinawas evaluated over different oxidative conditions, as pro oxidant (H2O2), antioxidant (vitamin C) and using aloe gel. The aloes plants have a millennial medicinal use and the succulent portion of leaf, called aloe gel, is used for wound healing. Here we analyze the action of aloe gel obtained from two species: Aloe veraand A. arborescens. The results shows that ROS are important in the regeneration of G. tigrinaand that the initial exposition to H2O2, soon after transection, accelerate the regeneration. However, during regeneration process an antioxidant medium, as containing vitamin C, promotes acceleration of regeneration, even if less intensely. Aloes extracts promotes acceleration of regeneration in this planarian. No differences were observed among portions of cells in phases of cell cycle, with exception of worms exposed to A.veraextracts at 0.4% that show more cells in G2 phases, suggesting a faster cell cycling. No toxic effect was observed for the aloes extracts in planarians. Instead, was observed an increase in the survival rate in treated animals.
