The article discusses the shape of the Turkish political scene in the period from the death of Mustafa Kemal to the loss of power by the People's Republican Party, ruling since 1923. The author focuses mainly on the attempts to introduce a multi-party system and the reasons for the change of government in Turkey. The article was prepared based on source analysis (archival and press) and studies on the period under study. The conducted query clearly shows that the main reason for the loss of power by the Kemalists was the economic problems of the state, the lack of a formulated program that would include the interests of peasants and workers, and the lack of interest in their situation, as well as the loss of authority enjoyed by Mustafa Kemal. Poruszony w artykule problem jest słabo znany w historiografii zarówno polskiej, jak i tureckiej. Autorka wskazuje na istnienie dwóch grup uchodźców polskich w Turcji w omawianym okresie: wojskowych przejeżdżających przez ten kraj tranzytem w drodze do Europy Zachodniej i na Bliski Wschód oraz inżynierów i specjalistów, zatrudnianych na miejscu. Podkreśla, że władze tureckie wykorzystywały pomoc polskich specjalistów w tworzeniu miejscowego przemysłu, m.in. lotniczego, a z drugiej strony polski rząd emigracyjny liczył na wykorzystanie doświadczeń zawodowych tych ludzi w powojennej Polsce. Na podstawie rozmaitych materiałów archiwalnych polskich, tureckich, brytyjskich i francuskich omawia losy polskiego uchodźstwa wojennego w Turcji po zakończeniu wojny. Wbrew powszechnemu przekonaniu większość specjalistów zdecydowała się na powrót do kraju, co wynikało m.in. ze zmiany zapotrzebowania na ich pracę w Turcji, ale również chęci powrotu do rodzin. Wszystko to wpływało na relacje polityczne między Warszawą a Ankarą. The issue raised in the following article is not particularly well-known in both Polish and Turkish historiography. The author points to the existence of two groups of Polishrefugees in Turkey during the period in question: military men passing through the country in transit on their way to Western Europe and the Middle East, and engineers and specialists employed locally. He highlights the fact that the Turkish authorities used the assistance of Polish specialists in the establishment of local industries, including aviation, and that, on the other hand, the Polish government-in-exile hoped to use the professional experience of these people in post-war Poland. Based on various Polish, Turkish, British and French archival materials, it discusses the fate of Polish wartime refugees in Turkey after the end of the war. Contrary to popular belief, the majority of professionals decided to return home, which was due to, among other things, a change in demand for their work in Turkey, but also a desire to return to their families. All of these aspects had an impact on political relations between Warsaw and Ankara.

Halide Edip Adıvar is one of the most important Turkish writers who had a huge impact on three generations of Turks. Her works accurately reflect historical reality and even very small cultural details. Halide Edip lived in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. At this time the Christians in the Ottoman Empire rather were not presented in a positive way in the literature. The writer buck the trends, she grew up surrounded by Greeks, Armenians and American missionaries, thanks to which on the one hand she knew them better and on the other was not prejudiced. The article analyzes the life of Halide and her most important works– the novel “Rabia”, the opera libretto “Shepherds of Kenan” and the theater art “Mask and Soul”. It is clear from them that Halide in her work takes Christians into account, rather as positive heroes, but also did not fail to take into account their disadvantages. It accurately reflected reality and captured various nuances related to the relations between Muslims and non-Muslims in the Bosphorus country.

Już na początku wojny Moskwa starała się wymusić na Ankarze rewizję traktatu z Montreux. Naciski sowieckie uzależnione były od sytuacji wojennej, powróciły, gdy Alianci zaczęli zyskiwać przewagę w konflikcie. W 1945 roku Turcja obawiając się braku poparcia w przypadku konfliktu ze Związkiem Radzieckim gotowa była na ustępstwa, w następnym roku Moskwa coraz śmielej zaczęła w swoich notach domagać się rewizji traktatu z Montreux w taki sposób, aby o Cieśninach decydowały państwa czarnomorskie, a na straży bezpieczeństwa Bosforu i Dardanele stały Turcja i Związek Radziecki. Ankarę mogło w tym okresie uratować tylko wsparcie zachodnie – a w dłuższym kontekście wybuch zimnej wojny. The Black Sea and the Black Sea Straits during World War II and immediately after its end had a huge impact on the formation of Turkish-Soviet relations. Already at the beginning of the war, Moscow tried to force Ankara to revise the Montreux Treaty. Soviet pressure depended on the war situation and resurfaced as the Allies began winning the war. In 1945, Turkey, fearing a lack of support in the event of a conflict with the Soviet Union, was ready to make concessions, and in the following year Moscow began to boldly demand a revision of the Montreux Treaty in its notes in such a way that the straits would be decided by the Black Sea states, and the security guards Turkey and the Soviet Union were to become the Bosporus and the Dardanelles. Ankara could only have been saved by Western support during this period – and in the longer context by the outbreak of the Cold War.

Halide Edip Adıvar to najbardziej znana turecka pisarka i jedna z pierwszych feministek. W swoich utworach opisuje życie kobiet na przełomie Imperium Osmańskiego i Republiki Turcji. Sinekli Bakkal (w polskim tłumaczeniu książka ukazała się pod tytułem Rabia), czołowa powieść Halide Edip, opisuje losy Rabii, wnuczki surowego imama i córki popularnego aktora, która dzięki swojemu wyjątkowemu głosowi zasłynęła jako recytatorka Koranu. Powieść jest jednak wielowymiarowa, nie koncentruje się jedynie na perypetiach głównej bohaterki, ale przez pryzmat jej życia pokazuje złożoną sytuację kobiet żyjących w Stambule w czasach Abdülhamida. The Clown and His Daughter (Turkish: Sinekli Bakkal) is a famous book written by Halide Edip Adıvar. Rabia is the major character in this book, she is a daughter of the actor and granddaughter of an Imam. Rabia had a beautiful voice, she became a Koran reciter. The novel is multidimensional, it not focused only on the life of the main character, but shows the complex situation of women which lived in Istanbul at the time of Abdülhamid.

He was very important figure for Turkish Cypriot because he courted about the Turkish part of the island. The perception of Denktaş by the Greek and Turkish sides was and is very divergent. Many Europeans understood the importance of the Republic of Turkey when migration crisis started, but Turkey has played an important role in the Middle East region for centuries. The Ottoman Empire and nextly the Republic of Turkey was a gate be-tween East and West. Since the beginning of the twentieth century the world's powers - USA and Russia (subsequently USSR) - were aware of this strategic position of Turkey. Since the end of the World War II they competed for influence in this country. For a long time, the United States has gained the upper hand in Turkey, but even at that time it was not an alliance without a scratch. Currently, Turkey is balancing between those two powers too. The president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is a very skilled politician who wants to strengthen the position of Turkey.

In the nineteenth century, the Ottoman Empire was on the verge of collapse. This country needed drastic reform. Those who decided to save the ‘Colossus with feet of clay’ were the Young Ottomans headed by Midhad Pasha. During the reign of Abdul Hamid II the first Constitution in the history of the Ottoman Empire was introduced. The document was in force for only two years (1876-1878) and this period is sometimes called the first constitutional monarchy (Birinci Meşrutiyet). The reforms that had been introduced postponed the collapse of this country on the Bosporus. The constitution equated the laws of the believers of various religions and introduced civil liberties, but the position of the sultan was still superior. Most of the provisions simply remained on paper and the sultan dissolved the parliament soon after.
