Objective: To explore the mechanism behind the faster volitional reaction time (RT) of open skill sports athletes from the perspective of proactive inhibitory control, with the hypothesis that the superior response speed of athletes from open skill sports is related to their enhanced capacity for releasing inhibition. Methods: Participants were divided into two groups, an experimental group of 27 table tennis players and a control group of 27 non-athletes. By manipulating cue-target onset asynchrony (CTOA) in a simple cue-target detection task, the timing of target presentation occurred in different phases of the disinhibition process. The time needed for disinhibition were compared between groups. Results: For the experimental group, RT varied with CTOA at delays less than 200 ms; for CTOAs greater than 200 ms, RTs were not significantly different. For the control group, RT varied with CTOA for delays as long as 300 ms. Conclusions: Table tennis players took less time (200 ms) than non-athletes (300 ms) to complete the disinhibition process, which might partly explain their rapid response speed measured in unpredictable contexts. Significance: The study provided evidence for disinhibition speed as a new index to assess the capacity of proactive inhibitory control, and provided a new perspective to explore the superior RT of athletes from open skill sports. [Purpose] This study aimed to investigate the association between whole-body reaction time and maximum jump height as elements of agility performance requiring maximum jumping when measured separately as closed-skill sports or as a complex of open-skill sports and their association with skeletal muscle mass. [Participants and Methods] This study included 54 healthy adult volunteers. Reaction time and jump height in response to a light stimulus were measured separately (the "simple condition") and simultaneously (the "complex condition"), and the associations between the values under these two conditions were investigated. The associations between the skeletal muscle mass and the two elements under both conditions were also investigated. [Results] No correlation was found between the reaction times measured under the simple and complex conditions; however, a significant correlation was evident for the jump height. Skeletal muscle mass correlated significantly with jump height but not with reaction time. [Conclusion] The study results suggest that the relationship between open- and closed-skill sports differs between reaction time and jump height. In the ever-accelerating world of sports, decisions are playing a more critical role. The coaches' decisions determine the outcome of the match. The study aimed to review what factors determine the decisions of sports officials in different sports. Today, many former players choose to stay in the sport and continue their activities as coaches. Nonetheless, there is no unified system for determining the experience of coaches. Various factors influence sports officials in their decisions. These can be both external and internal factors. Take the First heuristic leads to more consistent and better decisions.
