[Resumen] En este trabajo se revisita un problema clásico: el diseño óptimo de actuadores y/o sensores para sistemas lineales e invariantes en el tiempo. Considerando el sistema descrito en el espacio de estados, el objetivo sería el de escoger, bajo ciertas restricciones, la matriz de entrada B y/o la matriz de salida C para optimizar algún criterio asociado, habitualmente, con el grado de controlabilidad y/u observabilidad del sistema. Este trabajo propone resolver este problema empleando algoritmos genéticos. La principal ventaja de esta herramienta es que permite introducir las restricciones de forma muy sencilla, permitiendo resolver el problema de una forma mucho más general de las que existen en la literatura. Además, esta metodología permite considerar optimización multi-objetivo de forma directa, pudiendo analizar la situación en la que más de uno de estos criterios sean interesantes para la aplicación., [Abstract] This manuscript revisits a classic problem: optimal design of actuators/sensors for linear time-invariant systems. Considering a state-space description of the system, the goal is to design, subject to some constraints, the input matrix B and/or the output matrix C to optimize some criteria associated with the degree of controlability and/or observability of the system. This work proposes the use of evolutionary algorithms for this problem. The first advantage is that this tool allows to introduce constraints in a simple way, so the problem can be solved in a much general way than other approaches found in the literature. Furthermore, multi-objective optimization can be considered in a direct way with this methodology, making it possible to analyze the case in which more than one criterion is insteresting for the control/estimation application.

This manuscript deals with the situation in which the different agents or buses in a power network have access to local renewable resources and must manage its use in a distributed fashion. The buses distributedly decide the amount of power to be generated using their local renewable power plants, and that to be demanded from the grid. The decisions are made according to the optimization of a cost function that considers both economic and technical factors. The problem is approached resorting to a game-theoretical framework that requires a negotiation process among the neighboring buses. An iterative algorithm is proposed in order to solve this problem, providing existence and convergence conditions under which the buses reach a suitable equilibrium. The algorithm performance is tested in simulations over a modification of the IEEE 14-bus system, in which the lines are modeled as resistances and distributed generation is considered. Simulations on a network of 44 buses are also included to show the scalability of the method.

We address distributed estimation of the state of a linear plant by a set of agents. The problem is cast in a setting where the communication capabilities of an agent might be deactivated from time to time, due to failures in the communication devices or malicious attacks. An observer architecture is proposed to achieve our estimation goal, based on a multi-hop subspace decomposition. Uniform exponential convergence to zero of the estimation errors is proven in the presence of communication failures, under a persistence of excitation assumption. Finally, the observer performance is evaluated in simulation, showing the merits of the proposed method and suggesting directions for future developments.

[Resumen] Este artículo trata el problema de la estimación distribuida del estado de una planta por parte un conjunto de agentes. El objetivo de cada agente es el de reconstruir el estado completo a partir de sus propias medidas y la información intercambiada con el resto de agentes. Se considera la existencia de eventos aleatorios, por ejemplo ciberataques o fallos en los sensores, que pueden afectar a los agentes y propagarse a través de los vecinos. El artículo introduce un diseño robusto de observador y un algoritmo de ponderación para combatir este problema., [Abstract] This paper deals with the problem of distributedly estimate the state of a plant by a network of interconnected agents. The main aim of each agent is to reconstruct the whole state based on their local mea-surements and the information exchanged with the neighboring agents. We consider the existence of random events such as cyber-attacks or link failures that can affect to the agents and spread through the network. The paper introduces a robust design method and an algorithm in order to face these problems.

[Resumen] Este artículo presenta una experiencia de aprendizaje basado en proyecto en una asignatura de Regulación Automática de segundo curso de grado. Todos los estudiantes tienen como objetivo el control de una unidad de transporte. Dicho sistema mecánico, que se les proporciona descrito mediante Simscape, tiene una serie de parámetros dependientes del DNI del alumno. Se detallan todas las fases del proyecto y la metodología que se sigue en las sesiones. Se pone especial énfasis en la evaluación del proyecto, pues se ha introducido como novedad un sistema de evaluación competitivo-colaborativo, que aumente la motivación y disminuya la copia entre los estudiantes. Tal y como se extrae de las encuestas realizadas, la experiencia de los estudiantes ha sido positiva comparada con datos del curso anterior., [Abstract] This paper presents an experience of project-based learning in a course of Automatic Control, for second-year students of a Bachelor’s degree. The students’goal is the control of a transport unit. This mechanical system, which is given to them described with Simscape, contains a set of parameters that depends on the identification number of each student. The paper presents the details of all the phases of the project, as well as the teaching methodology used in each session. Special emphasis is put on the assessment, and a novel competitive-collaborative assessment has been introduced, looking for an increment in motivation and reducing the plagiarism between students. As it is deduced from the questionnaires, the experience of the students has been rather positive compared with the answers of the previous year.

[ES] En este artículo se propone un observador distribuido garantista para sistemas en red, considerando de forma explícita el problema de los retardos variables en las comunicaciones. Se asume que la información intercambiada entre agentes llega siempre a su destino, si bien las comunicaciones están sujetas a retardos variables, cuyo valor máximo se supone conocido. Cada observador trabaja con información parcial, y necesita comunicarse con observadores vecinos para llevar a cabo una estimación del estado completo del sistema. Para representar a los conjuntos garantistas, cuya función es acotar en tiempo real la región en la que se encuentra el estado del sistema, se ha optado por la utilización de zonotopos. Esto permite integrar de forma sencilla la información recibida por cada agente. Finalmente se presentan resultados de simulación para validar el algoritmo propuesto., [EN] This paper proposes a guaranteed distributed observer for networked systems, taking into account the problem of the variable delays in communications. We assume that the information exchanged among the agents always arrives to its destination, although the communication are subject to variable delays, whose maximum value is known. Each observer works with partial information, and needs to communicate with neighbouring observers to carry out an estimation of the complete state of the system. The guaranteed sets, whose function is to delimit in real time the region in which the state of the system belong to, are represented by zonotopes. This kind of sets allows a simple integration of the information received by each agent. Finally some results obtained with the proposed algorithm are shown in simulations.

[Resumen] Este artículo trata el problema de la estimación distribuida del estado de una planta por dos agentes. El objetivo de cada uno de los agentes es reconstruir el estado completo a partir de sus propias medidas y la información intercambiada con el otro. Para ello, se introduce una novedosa estructura de observador en la cual se divide el espacio de estados en la parte observable por el agente en cuestión y la parte no observable por él. El diseño de las ganancias del observador se lleva a cabo mediante la resolución de un problema LQ en el que el usuario puede variar dos parámetros escalares para lograr una observación adecuada. Se introduce dicho algoritmo para una red con dos agentes siendo su generalización para un número indeterminado de agentes un posible futuro trabajo.
