Abstract

Este artículo analiza la migración cualificada procedente del sur de Europa en México. A partir de entrevistas semiestructuradas con inmigrantes españoles e italianos residentes en cuatro ciudades de México, se abordan los motivos de migración de este grupo de inmigrantes y se analizan las características de su inserción laboral en el país. En particular, se estudia: I) el papel de la crisis económica y la falta de empleo de calidad en los países de origen como factor determinante para decidir una migración internacional, II) las oportunidades laborales que ofrece el mercado laboral mexicano para los inmigrantes de alta cualificación y III) la función que desempeñan el estado mexicano y su actual ley de migración a la hora de canalizar a este grupo en el mercado laboral.

13. Seasonal evaluation of sulfur species identified in PM2.5 obtained in Monterrey, Mexico.

Abstract

This work studies the elemental seasonal variation in the PM2.5 obtained from the Monterrey Metropolitan Area with particular emphasis on sulfur species. The existence of these sulfur species was identified in all samples analyzed in this work. The results of this work evidence the formation of surface layers rich in sulfur compounds, which indicates the formation of secondary organic aerosols. This point was confirmed by the highest correlation identified between O3 concentration and relative humidity with the sulfur wt% in PM2.5. Additionally, this work proposes a multiple-liner correlation among sulfur wt% formed on PM2.5 with several pollutants and meteorological conditions, identifying the main contributors to their formation. Results suggest first the formation of sulfite species followed by their oxidation to sulfate species, which are promoted by specific conditions of relative humidity and O3. Among all evaluated seasons, samples obtained in fall showed the highest amount of sulfur wt% attributable to a synergetic effect between relative humidity and O3 concentration. Abstract

Traditionally, the advice provided to fishery managers has focused on the trade-offs between short- and long-term yields, and between future resource size and expected future catches. The harvest control rules that are used to provide management advice consequently relate catches to stock biomass levels expressed relative to reference biomass levels. There are, however, additional trade-offs. Ecosystem-based fisheries management (EBFM) aims to consider fish and fisheries in their ecological context, taking into account physical, biological, economic, and social factors. However, making EBFM operational remains challenging. It is generally recognized that end-to-end modeling should be a key part of implementing EBFM, along with harvest control rules that use information in addition to estimates of stock biomass to provide recommendations for management actions. Here we outline the process for selecting among alternative management strategies in an ecosystem context and summarize a Field-integrated End-To-End modeling program, or FETE, intended to implement this process as part of the Bering Sea Project. A key aspect of this project was that, from the start, the FETE included a management strategy evaluation component to compare management strategies. Effective use of end-to-end modeling requires that the models developed for a system are indeed integrated across climate drivers, lower trophic levels, fish population dynamics, and fisheries and their management. We summarize the steps taken by the program managers to promote integration of modeling efforts by multiple investigators and highlight the lessons learned during the project that can be used to guide future use and design of end-to-end models.

Abstract

The European Space Agency's Planck satellite was launched on 14 May 2009, and has been surveying the sky stably and continuously since 13 August 2009. Its performance is well in line with expectations, and it will continue to gather scientific data until the end of its cryogenic lifetime. We give an overview of the history of Planck in its first year of operations, and describe some of the key performance aspects of the satellite. This paper is part of a package submitted in conjunction with Planck's Early Release Compact Source Catalogue, the first data product based on Planck to be released publicly. The package describes the scientific performance of the Planck payload, and presents results on a variety of astrophysical topics related to the sources included in the Catalogue, as well as selected topics on diffuse emission., Comment: This is part of a package of Planck papers labelled in their titles as "Planck Early Results". Abstract

For a finite volume geodesic polyhedron P in hyperbolic 3-space, with the property that all interior angles between incident faces are integral submultiples of Pi, there is a naturally associated Coxeter group generated by reflections in the faces. Furthermore, this Coxeter group is a lattice inside the isometry group of hyperbolic 3-space, with fundamental domain the original polyhedron P. In this paper, we provide a procedure for computing the lower algebraic K-theory of the integral group ring of such Coxeter lattices in terms of the geometry of the polyhedron P. As an ingredient in the computation, we explicitly calculate some of the lower K-groups of the dihedral groups and the product of dihedral groups with the cyclic group of order two., Comment: 35 pages, 2 figures

Abstract

For a group G that splits as an amalgamation of A and B over a common subgroup C, there is an associated Waldhausen Nil-group, measuring the "failure" of Mayer-Vietoris for algebraic K-theory. Assume that (1) the amalgamation is acylindrical, and (2) the groups A,B,G satisfy the Farrell-Jones isomorphism conjecture. Then we show that the Waldhausen Nil-group splits as a direct sum of Nil-groups associated to certain (explicitly describable) infinite virtually cyclic subgroups of G. We note that a special case of an acylindrical amalgamation includes any amalgamation over a finite group C., Comment: 12 pages

A hyperbolic 3-simplex reflection group is a Coxeter group arising as a lattice in the isometry group of hyperbolic 3-space, with fundamental domain a geodesic simplex (possibly with some ideal vertices). The classification of these groups is known, and there are exactly 9 cocompact examples, and 23 non-cocompact examples.
