1. Double Delta(1232) excitation and the ABC effect in the reaction n + p -> 2H (pi pi)

Abstract

The deuteron spectrum in n+p -> 2 H(pi pi) at k_n = 1.88 GeV/c and theta_d = 0^o is explained by considering a Delta Delta excitation as the dominant reaction mechanism for the 2 pi production. We present a new theoretical approach based on a coupled channel formalism which allows to include the residual interaction within the intermediate Delta Delta and Delta N systems. The corresponding interaction potentials V_{DeltaDelta} and V_{DeltaN} are adopted from a meson exchange model with pi, rho, omega, and sigma exchange taken into account. The influence of the residual interaction on the deuteron spectrum is studied. We also predict the angular distribution of the two pions. 4. The Delta(1232)-nucleon interaction in the 2H(p,n) charge exchange reaction

Abstract

The 2H(p,n) charge exchange reaction at T_p=790 MeV is used to study the Delta(1232)-nucleon interaction in the Delta resonance excitation energy region. For the Delta-N potential, a meson exchange model is adopted where pi, rho, omega, and sigma meson exchanges are taken into account. The deuteron disintegration below and above pion threshold is calculated using a coupled channel approach. Various observables, such as the inclusive cross section, the quasifree Delta decay, the coherent pion production, and the two-nucleon breakup are considered. It is shown that these observables are influenced by the dynamical treatment of the Delta degrees of freedom. Of special interest is the coherent pion decay of the Delta resonance which is studied by means of the exclusive reaction 2H(p,n pi+)2H. Both the peak energy and the magnitude of the coherent pion production cross section depend very sensitively on the strength of the Delta-N potential. 5. Damping mechanisms of the Delta resonance in nuclei

Abstract

The damping mechanisms of the Delta(1232) resonance in nuclei are studied by analyzing the quasi-free decay reactions 12C(pi+,pi+ p)11B and 12C(3He,t pi+ p)11B and the 2p emission reactions 12C(pi+,pp)10B and 12C(3He,t pp)10B. The coincidence cross sections are calculated within the framework of the isobar-hole model. It is found that the 2p emission process induced by the decay of the Delta resonance in the nucleus can be consistently described by a pi+rho+g' model for the Delta+N -> N+N decay interaction., Comment: 9 pages, 5 Postscript figures, uses RevTex, psfig.sty. Abstract

An analysis of the 600 MeV, 90Zr(3He,t)90Nb reaction, reported earlier, is reexamined, showing that the enhanced background observed around 30 MeV excitation energy is to a large extent due to the 2h̷w spin-flip isovector monopole resonance. The excitation of this monopole strength is a result of the surface character of the (3He,t) reaction.

35. Direkte Kernreaktionen und die Struktur der Atomkerne

Abstract

Die vorliegende Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit zwei verschiedenen Aspekten von direkten Kernreaktionen, nämlich einerseits mit der mikroskopischen Berechnung des imaginären optischen Potentials für die elastische Nukleon-Kern-Streuung sowie andererseits mit der mikroskopischen Analyse von magnetischen Riesenresonanzzuständen in Atomkernen, die durch (p, n)-Ladungsaustauschreaktionen angeregt werden. Im ersten Teil der Arbeit wird der Imaginärteil W(E,$\vec{r}$,$\vec{r}$') des optischen Potentials für die elastische Proton- und Neutron-Kernstreuung im Rahmen der sog. Kernstrukturnäherung zum optischen Potential mikroskopisch berechnet. DieRechnungen werden im Feshbach-Formalismus in zweiter Ordnung Störungstheorie bezüglich einer effektiven Projektil-Targetnukleon-Wechselwirkung durchgeführt. Die Antisymmetrisierung zwischen dem Projektilnukleon und den Targetnukleonen wird exakt behandelt. Eine optische Green-Funktion wird zur Beschreibung der Propagation des Projektils in intermediären Reaktionskanälen verwendet. Die intermediär angeregten Kernzustände werden durch mikroskopische RPA-Wellenfunktionen genähert. Letztere haben den Vorteil, daß sie die kollektiven Kerneigenschaften ziemlich gut beschreiben. Alle energetisch offenen inelastischen Kanäle sowie alle Ladungsaustauschkanäle werden in den Rechnungen berücksichtigt. Damit wird die gesamte Einteilchen-Einloch-Stärke, die in zweiter Ordnung angeregt werden kann, ausgeschöpft. Für die Neutronstreuung sind die intermediären Ladungsaustauschzustände sehr wichtig und erzeugen bei 30 MeV Einschußenergie etwa ein Drittel der Gesamtabsorption W. Die berechneten imaginären Potentiale zeigen alle Oberflächenabsorption. Diese ist hauptsächlich auf die wichtigen intermediären kollektiven Zustände zurückzuführen. Die Peakposition der Absorption ist sehr sensitiv auf Details der verwendeten Kernstrukturwellenfunktionen. Insbesondere die Übergangsdichten zu den kollektiven Zuständen müssen in Obereinstimmung mit dem Experiment sein, um die Form des imaginären Potentials an der Kernoberfläche richtig zu beschreiben. Ohne Einschluß der Kernkollektivität kann kein stark oberflächenabsorbierendes Potential erzeugt werden. Außerdem ist die Absorption dann viel zu schwach.[...]
