Abstract

The outdoor performance evaluation of a 5.94 kWp grid connected photovoltaic (PV) system, implemented on the rooftop of the National School of Applied Sciences of Safi (NSASS) Morocco, has been carried out under hot semi-arid climate. The PV plant contains three silicon-based PV panels: mono-crystalline (m-Si), poly-crystalline (p-Si) and amorphous (a-Si). A one-year measured data from June 2018 to May 2019 were analyzed. The performance parameters such as reference yield, final yield, system efficiency, performance ratio, capacity factor, energy density and environmental benefits were assessed under IEC 61724 standards. Performance parameters results show that m-Si technology is the most suitable one for this location followed by p-Si. Knowing that m-Si’s price is relatively higher than that of p-Si, the latter can further be considered as the most appropriate technology to the hot semi-arid climate of Safi region. Thereafter, the amount of CO2 emissions that could be avoided can reach 9.69 tons per year. Outcomes also indicate that grid connected PV plants are feasible in the hot semi-arid climate of Safi region for electricity generation and may contribute to the future energy mix of the country.

Abstract

This article investigates distribution network topologies, with an emphasis on Mesh, Radial, and Ring designs, within the context of smart grids. With the primary goal of decreasing power losses using optimization techniques. The ZIP model is used to precisely capture load behaviour in load flow. This research adds to our understanding of topology selection, optimization approaches, and load behaviour modelling, improving in this way increases the efficiency and reliability of electrical distribution networks.

Abstract

This work focuses on short-term photovoltaic (PV) power forecasting each 5 min of the following day of a 5.94 kWp grid-connected PV plant located in Safi, Morocco. The PV system is composed of three silicon technologies: mono-crystalline (m-Si), poly-crystalline (p-Si) and amorphous (a-Si). The field measurements from June 18, 2016 to July 15, 2018 were used to build both linear and nonlinear models. These suggested models have been compared with the ones presented in the literature, including the persistence and an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) models widely used for short-term PV output forecasting. The comparison has been performed on statistical scores: MBE, MAE, MAPE, RMSE, and nRMSE. The two proposed models maintain simple mathematical expressions and involve only a small number of predictors. The latter are plane of array solar irradiance and module or ambient temperatures. The models are also able to follow the time-varying of solar irradiance. The findings showed that the suggested models outperform all the tested ones and achieved better performances in terms of prediction accuracy. In fact, MAE and RMSE of our models do not exceed 2.107% and 2.674% respectively, whereas they may achieve respectively 2.488% and 5.796% for persistence and 4.430% and 5.650% for ANN.

Abstract

For the purpose of controlling the power system and in particular predicting voltage collapse, the use of stability indices has become a mandatory operation. Nevertheless, it would be essential to consider reliable ones when managing the power system. Otherwise, considerable damage can occur leading to blackout phenomenon. In the light of this paper, an improved reactive line index will be designed to identify sensitive areas in transmission networks. Based on Pi-model of the line, the proposed index takes into account the shunt admittance of the lines as well as the angle gap between sending and receiving buses. The principal aim of this index is the online control of the reactive power flow and voltage stability prediction. Within this framework, the novel index is compared to those found in the literature, and has proven to be more appropriate than simplified indices and to be more sensitive than other index that considered the same model of line. To indicate this effectiveness, two power systems have been deployed, namely IEEE 6 bus and new England IEEE 39 bus test system. All simulations were performed using PSAT software.
