The primary austenitic solidification mode of Twinning Induced Plasticity (TWIP) steel weld joints is one of the most important issues limiting its weldability. In order to gain knowledge on this topic, a comprehensive study was carried out through numerical simulation of diffusive-convective phenomena of fluid flow and heat transfer of the melted material in the weld pool of TWIP steel weld joints. Weldments were performed using different heat inputs and constraint conditions. The predictions of convective motion, thermal history and cooling rates estimated by finite element (FE) and finite volume (FV) simulations were correlated with chemical species segregation (Mn, C, Al and Si) and the solidification mode in the fusion zone. The microstructural characterization of weld joints and the numerical results provided a full analysis of the weld pool solidification process. Results revealed a relationship between both the dendrite size and Mn segregation with the estimated velocity field of liquid material in the melted zone. Moreover, the presence of d-ferrite was experimentally detected in some weld joints and associated with the convective movement of melted material and chemical segregation. The cellular dendritic growth mode found in some weld joints contributed to the formation of d-ferrite and promoted the transition of the solidification mode from austenitic to ferritic-austenitic. As well d-ferrite allowed to mitigate hot-cracking and interrupted the Mn-enriched liquid film migration towards the heat-affected zone, avoiding the formation of liquation cracks. The presence of d-ferrite phase maintained a high mechanical strength providing improved elongation regarding the welded material mechanical properties.

In this study the production of 3D-printed pieces made from Inconel 718 using Metal Extrusion Additive Manufacturing of highly-filled polymers has been investigated. The printer used was a Prusa I3 MK3 printer modified with a gravity fed-pellets screw extruder. The feedstock was pellets composed of metal powder and polymeric binders. Different types of geometries and sizes were printed during the study with the aim to determine both the limits of the technique and the final mechanical properties of the pieces after the whole process (Fig 1). After printing, debinding, and sintering some of the samples were cut and observed by SEM to determine the presence of remaining porosity inside the pieces. The samples for tensile tests were subjected to a final precipitation heat-treatment to check the mechanical properties. As a general conclusion of the study, better results were obtained in small pieces with a small thickness. As thickness increases porosity and the amount of large defects created during the printing or debinding steps rises. On the other hand, pieces with regular geometries show less warping. This warping comes from the large shrinkage experimented by the samples during sintering. The hardness and yield strength of the tensile samples are within the expected range for this material, but ductility is easily affected by the presence of defects.

The aim herein is to study the microstructural and mechanical changes generated in a welded joint of Ti-containing twinning-induced plasticity (TWIP) steel by the gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) process. For this purpose, the welding parameters that allow the union of 5.6¿mm-thick butt plates with full penetration and without filler material are investigated. Microstructural changes are examined by light optical metallography. Segregation and second-phase precipitated particles are investigated by scanning electron microscopy and electron-dispersive spectroscopy. Phase transformations are evaluated using X-ray diffraction. Finally, the mechanical behavior is assessed by Vickers microhardness and microtensile tests. In general, the welded joint shows dendritic structure formations in the fusion zone (FZ) and equiaxed grain growth in the heat-affected zone (HAZ). The FZ shows a high degree of segregation, where Mn, Si, and C segregate in the interdendritic regions, whereas Al preferentially segregates in dendritic areas. In contrast, no effect on austenite stability is noticed. The welded joint shows an increase in microhardness, which is associated with the formation of precipitated particles. Finally, the microtensile results show a decrease in ultimate tensile strength (UTS) in the FZ, whereas the welding interface and HAZ show an increase in UTS compared with the base material.

Twinning Induced Plasticity (TWIP) steels, are high manganese austenitic steels which have experienced in the last decade a growing interest due to their unique combination of strength and elongation Nevertheless, the problems presented along their current fabrication process (continuous casting) make complicated its production and commercialization. Powder metallurgy can be an attractive alternative route to solve those problems in certain components. In this work, Metal injection moulding (MIM) is explored as alternative fabrication route for TWIP steels with the additional benefit of reaching a near-theoretical densification. The feedstock of this study is composed by a metallic prealloyed Fe-Mn-C-Al-Si powder and a binder system based on wax-HDPE. Feedstock was optimized by studying different metallic loads. Proper proportion of powder and binder was determined in terms of mixing torque and melt flow index measurements. A two stage debinding process and sintering process under argon atmosphere to obtain the right microstructure were optimized.

Influence of equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) on mechanical properties of a TWIP steel was studied, and the tensile true stress-strain curves of the steel were fitted by Ludwik, Hollomon and Swift three kinds of constitutive model. The results show that the yield strength and ultimate tensile strength of the sample increase whereas ductility and tensile toughness decrease with the increasing number of ECAP passes. There is a good agreement between fitting curve of Ludwik, Hollomon, Swift model and the experimental curve. The fitting parameters of the each model are given in current paper, and the reason of the strain hardening exponent n decreases with the increasing of the ECAP pass is discussed.

La diversidad de nuestra sociedad es cada vez mayor y plantea retos inéditos en relación a la cohesión, la integración y la convivencia. Con el objeto de ilustrar los cambios que estamos viviendo, desde Ikuspegi – Observatorio Vasco de Inmigración estamos investigando el fenómeno de los hijos e hijas de personas de origen extranjero en Euskadi, siendo este informe una primera y sucinta aproximación a los más relevantes abordajes teóricos que se han hecho sobre esta cuestión. “La diversidad infantil y juvenil en la CAE. Las (mal) llamadas segundas generaciones” pretende abordar el fenómeno social de los hijos e hijas de personas de origen extranjero desde todos los enfoques posibles: desde el teórico, pasando por el análisis de datos sociodemográficos, por la visión de personas expertas, de las personas educadoras, de la propia infancia y juventud vascas y de sus familias, hasta el conjunto de la sociedad vasca.

The present study mainly focus on the infl uence of Equal Channel Angular Pressing (ECAP) on the mechanical properties, micros tructure, and the texture of a low carbon hi gh Mn TWIP steel. The results showed the HV hardness value, yield strength and ul timate tensile strength of the sample increased whereas ductility decreased with the increased number of ECAP passes. Through ECAP procedure, the average grain size reduced from 199.6 µ m to less than 1 µ m, as well as the twinning fraction. With regard to the texture evolution, the initial samples revealed an anisotropy with the dominant components of Goss and Brass. After ECAP procedure, One pass sample presented the components toward A 1 *and A 2 *, and after four passes, B/ ¿ components were gradually formed which confirmed more stable microstructure

Transcurrido un año desde el último Barómetro: percepciones y actitudes hacia la inmigración extranjera en la CAPV, presentamos los resultados del Barómetro 2013 realizado por Ikuspegi – Observatorio Vasco de Inmigración, en el que han tomado parte María José Martín Herrero, José Antonio Oleaga Páramo, Gorka Moreno Márquez, Arkaitz Fullaondo Elordui-Zapaterietxe, Maite Fouassier Zamalloa, Iraide Fernández Aragón, Julia Shershneva. Además, de la edición de este informe se ha encargado Taide Arteta Esnal; Antonio Gómez Parada ha proporcionado soporte documental y bibliográfico. En el Barómetro de 2013 se da una mejoría con respecto al año 2012, en el que los datos sobre actitudes hacia la inmigración en el País Vasco eran los más negativos de toda la serie de años analizados por Ikuspegi. Los datos de 2013 son mejores y se asemejan a años anteriores, aunque sigue detectándose el impacto de la crisis.

El presente trabajo versa sobre la fabricación de piezas consolidadas de hierro a partir de polvo de hierro puro con estructura nanocristalina obtenido mediante proceso de molienda mecánica (MM) en un molino de bolas planetario. Las piezas son sometidas a tratamientos térmicos posteriores a la consolidación para obtener una distribución bimodal de grano. Dichos compactos son caracterizados mecánicamente (ensayos de microtracción y microindentación) como a nivel microestructural (EBSD, MEB). Dadas las restricciones mecánicas de los metales nanocristalinos, la microestructura bimodal compuesta de una matriz de granos inferiores a los 100 nanómetros rodeando granos de tamaño superior a 1 micrómetro, refleja altas propiedades mecánicas como límite elástico y dureza gracias a los granos finos, y, como se muestra en el trabajo, se produce una mejora de la ductilidad gracias a los granos micrométricos. En el trabajo actual se ha analizado en profundidad los fenómenos de deformación plástica para este tipo de material y microestructura.

In this paper, the variation of the Young’s modulus with plastic deformation during unloading in a tensile test with has been determined for a wide range of Dual-phase steels, covering from DP 1400 to DP 780. As a general rule, the higher strength steels have a lower variation (8%) and as the strength decreases, this diminution increases, arriving to 20%. However, in the softer steels, there are appreciable differences in young’s modulus variation although their mechanical properties are very similar. In order to explain this, the role of ferrite content in the DP steels and the presence of bainite have been analyzed as well as the initial dislocation density and its evolution with plastic deformation.

El uso del comercio electrónico entre los abonados a la televisión digital es realmente bajo (7.7%) como consecuencia del todavía escaso porcentaje de hogares conectados a Internet y los arraigados hábitos de la compra tradicional con la posibilidad de comprobar los productos in situ. Las principales razones para usar el comercio electrónico son la facilidad de compra (47,4%) y la comodidad (28,9%). En relación al equipamiento electrónico del hogar y utilizando un análisis multivariante hemos encontrado algunos predictores del USO del comercio electrónico. En el caso de usos y actitudes relacionados con las tecnologías, los predictores de utilización del comercio electrónico serían por orden el USO del correo electrónico durante la última semana, el consumo de televisión durante los fines de semana, el USO de Internet durante la última semana y, finalmente, el mayor repertorio de canales en el consumo de la televisión multicanal de pago.

A study has been carried out on the grain size distribution of cylindrical compacts obtained by consolidation of iron powder severely deformed by mechanical milling. Consolidation has been performed in two consecutive steps: cold and hot conditions. The hot one was done at two temperatures, namely 425 and 475ºC. After milling, the iron powder has a grain size of 8 nm (± 4 nm) with an average hardness of 800 HV. After hot compaction the grain size increases up to 50 nm, especially at 475ºC where a small fraction of grains reach larger values than the average. The grain size was evaluated by two different techniques, X-Ray Diffraction and Transmission Electron Microscopy. Results showed some differences between both methods. The advantage of using TEM is that grain size distribution, and not only the average size, can be obtained. Small discs were also obtained from the compacted specimen in order to fracture them on a “ball on three balls” equipment. The fracture behaviour of the samples was then studied by SEM.

Este trabajo se basa en los resultados obtenidos de 206 entrevistas, mediante un cuestionario común, a abonados a las plataformas de televisión digital Canal Satélite Digital y Vía Digital, mayores de 14 años y residentes en 6 ciudades españolas. La investigación ha buscado relacionar el consumo total de televisión, los programas favoritos y el equipamiento tecnológico del hogar con la finalidad de predecir cuáles son los tipos de usuarios más propensos a contratar este tipo de servicios. La primera conclusión de este trabajo es que los que compran servicios de pago por programa ven más tiempo la televisión que los hogares que sólo reciben televisión generalista. Por otra parte, no existe relación entre la tenencia y uso de ordenador y la contratación de servicios de pago por programa. Sin embargo, sí está relacionada la compra de servicios de pago por programa con la tenencia de un moderno equipamiento para la recepción audiovisual en el hogar. Al mismo tiempo, el gasto mensual en este tipo de producto está relacionado con el equipamiento tecnológico del hogar. Por otro lado, la tenencia de video, ordenador personal, conexión a Internet y el uso de correo electrónico están negativamente relacionados con la cantidad de dinero gastada en esta modalidad de video-servicios. This paper is based on the results obtained from 206 questionnaires answered by people aged 14 and above from six Spanish cities, and who have digital TV at home. Its research aim is to know the relationship of the TV consumption, favourite programmes of viewers and their electronic equipment at home and its influence of consumption of Pay-per-view (PPV), which started in Spain at the same time as digital TV, in 1997. First of the most important conclusion is that people who contract PPV services are great consumers of television. Second one is that there is no relation between computer technology (ownership of PC and consumption) and the contracting of PPV services. On the contrary, the PPV contracting is associated with the ownership of more modern TV equipment (screen 16/9, dual/stereo, VCR and videogame console) and audio equipment (Hi-Fi music centre). Third one is that household spending monthly in PPV is also related to the technological equipment. People who have a 16/9 TV set, or a dual/stereo TV set or teletext, spend more money than people who have not them. On the other hand, owning a PC, a link to the Internet , using e-mail, or having a VCR is negatively related to the amount of money spent on ppv services.

Este artículo se basa en un trabajo cuantitativo de entrevistas personales realizado a más de 300 personas abonadas a un servicio de televisión multicanal en España: Canal Satélite Digital, Vía Digital y operadores de cable. Entre sus resultados más importantes destaca que el consumo en tiempo de televisión es algo menor en los hogares de televisión multicanal que generalista y que, por otra parte, el uso del mando a distancia en la televisión multicanal de pago se orienta sobre todo al chequeo de canales (no a evitar la publicidad) y su utilización refuerza la "autoridad" paterna respecto a los hogares con televisión tradicional. This paper is based on a survey made in September 1999, with more than 300 interviews to people who have subscribed a Spanish digital packet: Canal Satélite Digital, Vía Digital and/or a cable operator company. Amid their more important results it is the fact that the time spent on TV consumption in households with digital TV is smaller than in those with traditional television. On the other hand, in the households with digital packets the remote control is used to check programming rather to avoid TV commercials. Furthermore, the use of the remote by the father is highest in households with digital TV than in those with generalist television; that leads to the conclusion that the remote increases the "authority" of the father.

En este artículo presentamos las conclusiones más importantes de un estudio cuantitativo sobre el uso, consumo y actitudes de los niños y jóvenes españoles respecto de los distintos medios de comunicación y los equipamientos electrónicos. El artículo parte de los resultados obtenidos de 980 encuestas realizadas de forma aleatoria, en todo el país, a niños y jóvenes españoles de entre 6 y 16 años. Al mismo tiempo, también hemos tenido en cuenta las conclusiones del análisis cualitativo ( del que publicamos un avance en el nº 4 de esta revista con el título de "Las relaciones de los niños y de los jóvenes con las nuevas y las viejas tecnologías de la información") a la hora de interpretar dichos resultados. Los niños españoles tienen un nivel elevado de equipamiento electrónico y de acceso a los medios de comunicacion. De todas formas, este uso y consumo no crea problemas en su desarrollo y relaciones personales ya que, en la mayoría de los casos, el uso de los aparatos tecnológicos se realiza en compañía de amigos y/o de familiares. El hecho de que muchos de los padres y profesores perciban la relación entre los niños y los jóvenes con los aparatos tecnológicos de esta manera, nos permite hablar de una actitud positiva de la sociedad hacia el uso que hacen éstos de las nuevas tecnologías y de los medios de comunicacion. Este artículo forma parte del proyecto internacional titulado "Children, Young People and the Changing Media Environment". En dicho proyecto participan investigadores de quince países europeos y está dirigido por los profesores Sonia Livingstone y George Gaskell, miembros del Media Research Group de la London School of Economics and Politics, y está financiado por la Broadcasting Standars Comission, the Youth of Europe Programme (EC-DGXXII) y la Fundación Europea de la Ciencia . Las conclusiones generales de este proyecto se publicarán en un libro editado por la editorial británica Lawrence Erlbaum en este año.

Rememorando la investigación que hace cuarenta años hizo la profesora Hillmmelweit, y ante el gran desarrollo de las nuevas y viejas tecnologías de la información existentes en la actualidad(tv, video, radio, ordenadores, videojuegos y juegos de ordenador, Internet, tv digital por cable y satélite, etc), durante 1996, 1997 y 1998 se ha realizado una investigación en diferentes paises europeos, dirigida por los profesores Sonia Livingstone y George Gaskell (Media Research Group, en la London School of Economics), de la que los autores de este artículo forman el equipo investigador español y cuyos datos relativos a los niños y los jóvenes españoles los avanzamos a continuación. El trabajo en esta primera fase ha sido exclusivamente cualitativo. Para ello hemos organizado en Barcelona, Bilbao, La Coruña, Madrid y Sevilla grupos de discusión con niños y jóvenes (9-10; 12-13 y 15-16 años), hemos entrevistado en profundidad a niños (6-7 años), a padres y a madres (en cuyos hogares hubiera televisión, video y ordenador), y a profesores de salas de ordenadores (la mitad con conexión a Internet). Como una única conclusión general diríamos que a pesar de la presencia masiva de equipamientos tecnológicos en las vidas de niños y jóvenes y el apego que tienen hacia ellos, puestos a elegir, todos siguen prefiriendo y poniendo en primer lugar a los amigos y familiares antes que a las máquinas.
