Abstract

It is shown how state-of-the-art attosecond photoionization experiments can test Born's rule -- a postulate of quantum mechanics -- via the so-called Sorkin test. A simulation of the Sorkin test under consideration of typical experimental noise and data acquisition efficiencies infers an achievable measurement precision in the range of the best Sorkin tests to date. Abstract

We propose a convolutional neural network for localising the centres of the optic disc (OD) and fovea in ultra-wide field of view scanning laser ophthalmoscope (UWFoV-SLO) images of the retina. Images captured in both reflectance and autofluorescence (AF) modes, and central pole and eyesteered gazes, were used. The method achieved an OD localisation accuracy of 99.4% within one OD radius, and fovea localisation accuracy of 99.1% within one OD radius on a test set comprising of 1790 images. The performance of fovea localisation in AF images was comparable to the variation between human annotators at this task. The laterality of the image (whether the image is of the left or right eye) was inferred from the OD and fovea coordinates with an accuracy of 99.9%, Comment: Submitted to the 23rd Conference on Medical Image Understanding and Analysis (MIUA)

25. Who wrote the first Constitutions of Freemasonry?

Abstract

This article addresses the problematic authorship of The Constitutions of the Free-Masons (1723). Traditionally associated with James Anderson, using stylometry, we examine whether and, if so, where John T. Desaguliers, the prime mover of early English institutionalized Freemasonry, contributed to this publication. Our corpus includes writings by Anderson, Desaguliers, and two contemporary Freemasons used as distractors. The transcribed works contain texts from different genres and of varying lengths. In our methodology, we employ a wide range of robust, multivariate, unsupervised, and cross-validated supervised tests, verified through significance testing, which can hopefully contribute to the establishment of standards for historical authorship attribution. Our results suggest, in line with historical evidence, that the legendary history of the Constitutions was most likely primarily authored by Anderson. However, several of the Charges including the first one ' Concerning God and religion', one of the most disputed texts in the history of Freemasonry, are closer to the style of Desaguliers. The General Regulations concerning the organization of the lodges, hitherto attributed to George Payne, played a fundamental role in spreading Freemasonry worldwide. Our analyses show that the stylistic affinity of fifteen of the thirty-nine regulations has a pronounced closeness to Anderson's style, five align more closely with Desaguliers' style. The authorship of the rest remains inconclusive partly due to the insufficient length of texts by Payne. 26. The Role of Demographic and Socio-Economic Characteristics in Affecting Subjective Well-being. The Case of Hungary

Abstract

The paper investigates the influence of various demographic and social factors on the perception of well-being in Hungary. For the purpose of the analysis, various measures of subjective well-being have been developed, as dependent variables, using both narrower and broader set of items, and principal factor analysis was applied to construct normalised indices. Demographic predictors include gender, age, family composition, residence; sociological predictors contain education, labour market position, income and wealth as well as questions on health and religiosity. Hungary is an interesting case to study, given the well-known strong deficit in subjective well-being. The phenomenon is particularly motivating in the light of the official propaganda by the governing political forces on the country’s economic and social progress. Low level of subjective well-being is confirmed again, partly in international comparison, partly from the perspective of temporal change. Furthermore, detailed analysis of the data reveals that Hungarians seem to be markedly divided by age, residence and social status for higher or lower assessment of well-being. Regression models prove that material conditions have the strongest impact on subjective well-being, even if controlled for education and labour market position. The results on subjective-wellbeing raise questions for public policy in Hungary.

37. Parental influence on subjective child well-being in Hungary

Abstract

The paper extends the scope of social mobility research to family processes and family cohesion. The analysis aims to detect how various objective and subjective parental features influence subjective well-being (SWB) of adolescents in a dataset of 852 Hungarian families with 12–16-year-old children. SWB was operationalized by 14 comparable items on satisfaction with different domains of life, for both generations. The dependent variable is an aggregate SWB index, based on adolescents’ evaluations and OLS regression method is applied to uncover the association between parental well-being and children’s satisfaction. For a better understanding of this intergenerational process, we also control for parental education and material situation. The statistical model reflects gender, age and regional variation, as well. Results reveal a strong relationship between children’s and parents’ subjective well-being. Parental satisfaction with life and family- and work relations particularly affect offspring’s aggregate well-being. Material situation in the family matters more than parental education in the whole process. There is more variation in the results by the age of the adolescents than by gender. Findings reflect the importance of familial aspects and call attention to the relevance of soft, less intentional forms of status transmission.

Abstract

The objective of this paper is to introduce the workflow of the AVOBMAT (Analysis and Visualization of Bibliographic Metadata and Texts) multilingual research tool, which enables researchers to critically analyse bibliographic data and texts at scale with the help of data-driven methods supported by Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques. This exploratory tool offers a range of dynamic text and data mining tasks and provides interactive parameter tuning and control from the pre-processing to the analytical stages. It can pre-process, analyse and (semantically) enrich a vast number of texts and metadata in several languages due to its scalable infrastructure. The implemented analytical and visualization tools provide close and distant reading of texts and bibliographic data. Abstract

This report has been prepared by the “Bibliographical Data” Working Group of the DARIAH-ERIC consortium, which develops public digital research infrastructure for the arts and humanities. The Group consists of more than 30 members from 15 countries, most of whom are researchers and curators in the public sector who are engaged in bibliographical data (“bibliodata”) research and curation. This report is aimed at all active stakeholders in the humanities bibliodata landscape,especially public sector entities who may benefit from the Group’s insights and engage in cooperation to identify common interests, shape joint agendas, and achieve common goals. Those goals include creating shared infrastructure solutions, harmonising existing standards, and building partnerships to meet major challenges for contemporary bibliodata stakeholders. The bibliodata landscape is a dynamic ecosystem including the many stakeholders who produce, process, and use diverse bibliographical resources (datasets, tools, services). Following the digital revolution, this landscape has been reconfigured and a critical era is now upon us that demands closer investigation. This report analyses the state of the art by defining current bibliodata (Chapter 1), mapping the contemporary landscape (Chapter 2), identifying crucial stakeholder challenges and opportunities (Chapter 3), and offering recommendations for future cooperation (Chapter 4). This report presents an overview of issues in the bibliodata landscape. It is intended to provide a foundation for more detailed reports and case studies on the issues identified in this document.

Abstract

A cikk alapvető célja egyfelől a különleges bánásmódot igénylő tanulók aktuális jogszabályi hátterének feltárása, másfelöl a speciális szakképző intézményekben alkalmazható módszertani és technológiai pedagógiai megoldások feltérképezése. Ennek keretében a pedagógiai gyakorlatban is jól alkalmazható hagyományos és új generációs módszertani repertoár kerül áttekintésre és összehasonlító elemzésre. A munka feldolgozása során kvantitatív kérdőíves felmérést alkalmaztunk az empirikus kutatás során, amelyben az alapsokaságból kiválasztott célcsoport Pandémia előtti és Pandémia utáni digitális eszközhasználati szokásai kerültek felmérésre és elemzésre. Az analitika során – az eredmények figyelembevétele mellett – javaslat került kidolgozásra, hogy a digitális eszközhasználat milyen módszertannal tudja segíteni a jelenléti és hibrid oktatást szakképzési SNI-s tanulói környezetben, ugyanakkor rávilágít a csak digitális eszközhasználat korlátaira A munka eredményei a speciális szakiskolai képzésekben jól kamatoztathatóvá válnak, a leírt és kipróbált módszerek azonnali segítséget nyújthatnak a pedagógusok számára, szem előtt tartva a módszertani kultúraváltás fontosságát.
