The objective of this study was to provide the poster and podium publication rates from the 2016 to 2019 American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS) annual meetings and assess the quality of presentations ultimately published during this time. Posters and podiums from 2016 to 2019 were located through the AAHKS e-poster and meeting archives. Titles were queried on Google, Google Scholar, and PubMed. Presentation title, topic type, number of authors, degrees held by first author, and award status were collected. For each identified full-text publication, journal name, study type, dates of online and print publication, and journal impact factor (JIF) were also obtained. A total of 1,274 abstracts were presented at the 2016 to 2019 AAHKS annual meetings with an overall publication rate of 67.8% (864 of 1,274). Podiums (4.0 months, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 3.0 to 4.0) were more likely to be published earlier than posters (7.0 months, 95% CI: 6.0 to 7.0) (P <.001). The median JIF of published abstracts was 3.3 (95% CI: 3.3 to 3.7) with no significant difference in mean JIF of published posters or podiums (3.3 ± 1.0 versus 3.3 ± 1.0, P =.554). The likelihood of publication was significantly higher for podiums (odds ratio [OR]: 3.41, 95% CI: 2.29 to 5.07, P <.001), award-winning presentations (OR: 4.78, 95% CI: 1.69 to 13.55, P =.003), and with more authors (OR: 1.09, 95% CI: 1.02 to 1.16, P =.014). This analysis demonstrates abstracts presented at the AAHKS annual meetings from 2016 to 2019 had an overall publication rate of 67.8%, with podiums (86.4%) 3 times as likely to be published as posters (63.6%). The study focuses on the bases as the most significant component facilitating the interaction of tall buildings with the urban environment. It chronologically examines how bases have evolved from the 19th century when tall buildings were first produced to the present day, and evaluates their typological developments in six (6) distinct periods. The study investigates the Functional period, Eclectic period, Art Deco period, International period, Postmodern period, and High-Tech period, and assesses the shaping of bases through ten (10) representative buildings from each period. Data related to the buildings were obtained from the database of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH). The study evaluates how bases in tall buildings evolved in terms of factors determining their design, such as form, texture, color, solidity-void ratio, transparency, and material usage, in accordance with the different periods. According to the findings of the study, bases carry different meanings in each period, and their purposes and requirements vary. The structural design of bases is seen to be shaped by the technological advancement of the periods, the influence of architectural movements and styles, zoning regulations, investor demands and climate conditions. In the Functional period, podiums were integrated with the mass of the building, while in the Eclectic and Art-Deco periods, podiums started to be massively separated from the whole building. In the International period, podiums raised from the ground, while in the Post Modern period, podiums were used only to emphasise the visual effect of the building. With the high-tech period, the functionality of the podiums started to come to the fore. As a result, this study reveals how the podiums have changed according to the historical periods of the high-rise buildings and fills the gap in the literature in this field. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ESAR feet are prosthetic feet with carbon fiber parts that store mechanical energy while standing and release it during propulsion. It is believed to reduce the metabolic energy needed for walking, and to promote the economy of walking. However, there is little scientific evidence to support this claim. This study aimed to compare the energy storage properties of two prosthetic feet made of carbon fiber using the P-Walk, G-Walk, and Podium devices developed for gait analysis, which is a systematic examination of human movement, enabling phasing, estimation of musculoskeletal performance, and determination of kinematic and motor parameters. The amount of energy was calculated for each of the feet using the load deflection test, and the results showed that the new artificial foot with an energy of 6.186 joules showed a great improvement in the results of the tests compared to the old artificial foot with an energy of 3.403 joules. The Podium device tests showed a significant improvement in walking patterns and pressure distribution after using a new foot. The pressure distribution became almost equal on both sides, and the angular deviation of COP decreased from -7 to 1.3 degrees. Ground reaction force vector tilt results also improved, with a body angle of 0 degrees and inclination varying slightly depending on the tibiofemoral angle for males. P-Walk results reveal left-sided static test pressure distribution, exposing amputees to osteoarthritis risk and revealing lack of confidence in prosthetic foot. After use the new prosthetic foot, amputees press more on right foot, indicating balance restoration. The G-Walk device shows the effectiveness of both healthy left and prosthetic foot when walking on an amputated right leg when use the new prosthetic foot. The amputated side's performance is similar to a healthy limb, with minimal difference and within normal limits. Walking cadence and speed values are within normal ranges, while stride length and step length are outside normal ranges for both sides. Obliquity results show a small difference in pelvic angles due to weak pelvic muscles, but these are close to standard values for prosthetic foot use. The amputee's opinions about the evaluation of the new prosthetic foot were good when using the T-score by 61.0 with a rate of 86.4%. It was a significant improvement compared to the old foot with an evaluation of 53.6 by 63.9%.

Individual monitoring of radiation workers is essential to ensure compliance with legal dose limits and to ensure that doses are As Low As Reasonably Achievable. However, large uncertainties still exist in personal dosimetry and there are issues with compliance and incorrect wearing of dosimeters. The objective of the PODIUM (Personal Online Dosimetry Using Computational Methods) project was to improve personal dosimetry by an innovative approach: the development of an online dosimetry application based on computer simulations without the use of physical dosimeters. Occupational doses were calculated based on the use of camera tracking devices, flexible individualised phantoms and data from the radiation source. When combined with fast Monte Carlo simulation codes, the aim was to perform personal dosimetry in real-time. A key component of the PODIUM project was to assess and validate the methodology in interventional radiology workplaces where improvements in dosimetry are needed. This paper describes the feasibility of implementing the PODIUM approach in a clinical setting. Validation was carried out using dosimeters worn by Vascular Surgeons and Interventional Cardiologists during patient procedures at a hospital in Ireland. Our preliminary results from this feasibility study show acceptable differences of the order of 40% between calculated and measured staff doses, in terms of the personal dose equivalent quantity Hp(10), however there is a greater deviation for more complex cases and improvements are needed. The challenges of using the system in busy interventional rooms have informed the future needs and applicability of PODIUM. The availability of an online personal dosimetry application has the potential to overcome problems that arise from the use of current dosimeters. In addition, it should increase awareness of radiation protection among staff. Some limitations remain and a second phase of development would be required to bring the PODIUM method into operation in a hospital setting. However, an early prototype system has been tested in a clinical setting and the results from this two-year proof-of-concept PODIUM project are very promising for future development. In Knidos, one of the most important production and trade centers of the Ancient Period, two spolia blocks used as threshold at the entrance of the building called "Church D" were unearthed. The first block, which is the corner block, has architectural decoration on three sides and the other block on both short sides. The profile scheme and architectural decoration consists of astragal carved with bead and reel at the bottom, double ovolo carved with egg and dart in the middle and a vertical type cavetto profile carved with a lotus and palmette pattern at the top. The shape and profile scheme of the blocks show that they were originally used as crown. In this study, these two blocks are defined, the profile scheme is examined, and the architectural decorations are tried to be dated according to their stylistic features. The corner block, with a lower length of 251 cm, allows us to determine the length of at least one facade of the podium to which the crown blocks belong. As a result of comparisons made with similar examples, the type of building with podium to which the crown blocks may belong is also examined. The most unusual application of crown blocks is the profile scheme. This scheme consisting of a double ovolo carved with egg and dart is more common on the Asiatic-ionic type anta capitals from the 6th century BC. This combination is not yet known in Hellenistic buildings in Anatolia. For this reason, Knidos crown blocks are one of the latest examples of double ovolo carved with egg and dart. The cavetto was a crowning moulding over ovolo on Asiatic-ionic type anta capitals since the 6th century BC and on the architraves, epicranitis, altars, the orthostate blocks and monumental bases since the 5th century BC. However, none of these examples have a lotus and palmette pattern carved on the cavetto. For these reasons, Knidos crown blocks are described as unique examples. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Despite the increase in the proportion of female plastic surgeons in the United Kingdom (UK), all-male panels continue to prevail. This article sought to establish whether the genders of speakers at conferences hosted by leading UK plastic surgery associations, the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS), and the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS), are representative of the consultant workforce., Methods: Data on the gender distribution of plastic surgeons in the workforce over the last decade were obtained from NHS Digital Workforce Statistics. The demographics of invited speakers were sought from conference agendas for both BAPRAS (from 2012 to 2022) and BAAPS (from 2014 to 2021) posted on their association's websites., Results: The proportion of female consultants increased from 16% in 2012 to 22% in 2022. The average proportion of female speakers at BAPRAS conferences was 16% ± 9% SD that was similar to the proportion of female consultants in practice (p = 0.432). In contrast, the average proportion of female speakers at BAAPS conferences was lower than those in practice (7.88% ± 8.29% SD, p = 0.0032). At BAAPS, 43% of speakers were UK plastic surgeons., Conclusions: Although the podium speakers at BAPRAS were reflective of the consultant population, BAAPS had little to no representation of UK based female plastic surgeons. The purpose of the paper is to evaluate the shadow impact factor of buildings on building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) system efficiency and to determine optimal building configurations: shapes and orientation; to ensure BIPV efficiency based on the sun-shading effect. Also considered were the height, tilt angles, orientations and array spacing as well as different shapes of the podium building for BIPV system. A parametric design software called grasshopper and plug-in ladybug were used for the simulation. Model cases were built according to statistics of high-rise buildings in Shanghai. The simulation condition was based on the winter solstice of 21 December. The results show the best shapes for high-rise buildings are circle and square, to ensure the best BIPV system efficiency. The BIPV should be located on the roof and the 'U' type podium building is the best shape for mounting the BIPV system to provide a good sunlight exposure no matter what the high-rise building shape is. For PV panels, the best height is 0.618 m, the optimum tilt angle and array spacing is 30° and 1.214 m, respectively. The best orientation is southward followed by southeast, southwest and with the BIPV tilting upward at 30°. Therefore, to maximize the solar energy generation, architects should consider square and round high-rise buildings and 'U' type podiums for mounting BIPV systems in commercial complex buildings. The pedestrian-level wind environment quality in street canyons formed by high-rise buildings and other low-level buildings could be affected by multiple factors, such as the height and geometry of the surrounding buildings, street width, wind direction, and wind speed. This study conducted wind tunnel experiments to determine the characteristics of the pedestrian-level wind environment in street canyons under different conditions, including different street widths, podium heights, and approaching wind directions. The experimental results revealed that the effects of the street canyon width on the pedestrian-level wind in a street canyon can be categorized into three different flow regimes. A higher podium creates stronger wind speeds of the flow within the street canyon, and different approaching wind directions change the high-wind-speed zone within the street canyon accordingly.

Background: The purpose of this study was to compare adult reconstruction abstracts presented at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS) annual meetings.Methods: A total of 1355 podium and 1731 poster presentations from the adult reconstruction sections of the AAOS and AAHKS meetings from 2011 to 2015 were reviewed for publication in peer-reviewed literature. Authors who were added or removed from the original abstract and the final manuscript were recorded. The corresponding journals were assigned the most recent impact factor. The publication rates for each annual meeting, the mean changes in authorship and journal's impact factors were compared.Results: There were 2129 abstracts presented at AAOS and 957 abstracts presented at AAHKS. The overall publication rate was different between AAOS and AAHKS (56% vs 60%, P = .030). Compared with AAOS, there were more AAHKS abstracts published in 2011 (57% vs 77%, P = .0008) and 2012 (57% vs 76%, P = .0001); however, there were no significant differences in 2013, 2014, or 2015. The mean overall change in authors was lower for AAOS compared with AAHKS abstracts (0.78 vs 1.06, P < .0001). The mean journal's impact factors for AAOS and AAHKS publications were also similar (2.86 vs 2.85, P = .874).Conclusion: AAOS and AAHKS abstracts presented in the adult reconstruction subspecialty had a similar overall rate of publication, change in authorship, and impact factor. This study examines the existing podium-tower form of mixed-use residential development in Hong Kong and reveals its effects on street lives and pedestrian movements within high-rise, high-density residential areas. The podiums accommodate shops, facilities, and modes of transportation for those living above and in the surrounding area. The Tuen Mun complex's well-linked podium spaces illustrate that the podium form maximizes internal uses below residential areas, but segregates the closely located residential space from daily commercial activities. The existing podium spaces privatize streets and plazas for residents in towers and visitors to podium-space commercial shops, not for a layperson exploring there. Although ground-level streets and plazas are public spaces where diverse urban activities occur, podiums' internal corridors and halls are semipublic areas where designated shopping activities occur. While podiums enhance the convenience and safety of common space, these internal space become less public for internal users and include more barriers such as vertical circulation from the public street. Recent excavations carried out in the cellars on the south side of Palazzo Valentini have revealed structures dating from the early Hadrlanlc Era, which belong to the staircase and podium of a temple lying to the north of the court of Trajan's Column. Presumably, this structure Is the Temple of Trajan and Plotlna divi. A large foundation made of strong conglomerate, and a system of buttresses and barrel vaults linked on the northern side to underground rooms covered by cross vaults that was investigated In 2005, suggest that the temple was a very large building with an octastyle front. The most distinguishing architectural elements that can be related to the temple are huge gray granite monolithic columns discovered in the area around Palazzo Valentini In the sixteenth century. The area, where some relics of the previous urbanization are still to be found, was arranged In Hadrian's time on Its own level, which presumably corresponds to the square of Trajan's Forum and the so-called Athenaeum. (farncuski) Les édifices de culte païens ont été ici considérés en distinguant deux groupes selon leur position par rapport aux remparts. Le premier de ces groupes incluant les ouvrages situés en dehors de l'enceinte a déjà fait l'objet de plusieurs publications de sorte que ce travail se contente de rappeler brièvement leurs principales caractéristiques au début du texte. Lorsqu'il s'agit du Sirmium intra muros, nonobstant la présence de vestiges de murs massifs et de plastique architecturale décorative dans la partie centrale de la ville antique autorisant d'envisager la présence de temples païens, l'ensemble de la littérature publiée ne fait aucune mention de tels édifices. Les résultats d'une analyse a posteriori du matériel archéologique enregistré dans la documentation conservée à l'Institut archéologique de Belgrade, ainsi que l'observation du matériel lapidaire et décoratif des dépôts du Musée du Srem à Sremska Mitrovica ont permis à l'auteur de ce travail de constater (avec toute la réserve voulue dans ses conclusions) que l'espace situé à l'est du forum accueillait, pour le moins quatre temples païens. L'existence de ces édifices de culte a été située au sein de divers intervalles compris entre le IIe et le IVe siècle. Il est intéressant de noter que le plus ancien d'entre eux (IIe siècle), dégagé sur le site 42, était doté d'une construction portante en bois. Un peu plus au nord ont été exhumés les vestiges d'un édifice de culte (59) datant du IIIe-IVe siècle qui pourrait être identifié avec un fanum gallo-romain, mais cela restera pour l'instant de l'ordre de l'hypothèse. Plus à l'est, sur une vaste plate-forme en dalles de marbre ont été érigés vers la fin du IIIe ou au début du IVe siècle deux autres temples (sites 43 et 47). Malheureusement un certain nombre de questions, entre autres relatives à leur structure et leur dédicace, ne pourrons ici trouver une réponse définitive. De toute évidence, deux de ces temples (sites 47 et 59) ou du moins leurs vestiges ont été mis à profit, dans la première moitié du Ve siècle, lors de l'érection de deux églises, ce qui ouvrent la question très intéressante mais délicate de la localisation des églises Sainte-Anastasie et Saint-Démétrius, que les sources mentionnent dans le contexte de l'activité de bâtisseur de Leontius qui, en tant que nouveau préfet de l'Illyricum, a rejoint Sirmium, depuis Thessalonique, une vingtaine d'années avant la prise de la ville par les Huns en 441.

Introduction: The SICOT Conference Committee continually tries to improve the quality of presentations at their annual international meetings. However to the author’s best knowledge, no previous study has been undertaken to determine abstract quality. This study aimed to determine the five-year publication rate of presentations made at the 2009 SICOT Annual International Conference (AIC), recognise predictors of full-text publication, identify inconsistencies between presentations and publications, and determine presentation-publication delay. Methods: We retrieved all 329 oral presentation abstracts from the 2009 SICOT Conference, recorded fundamental study details and conducted a comprehensive, electronic search of Medline and PubMed to determine publication status. For subsequent publications, we examined for inconsistencies between presentation abstracts and full-text publications, whether there were retrospectively identifiable publication predictors and calculated presentation-publication delay. Results: The five-year publication rate for all presentations was 31.3%, for oral presentations. The average presentation-publication delay was 23.4 months. Observational studies were the most commonly published studies. Publications most commonly resulted from studies related to hip and knee subspecialties. Conclusion: Our study shows that almost one third of all abstracts presented at SICOT led to a full-text publication. This is a positive outcome particularly when made in comparison to similar studies of other reputable international conferences such as European Federation of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (EFORT) and American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS). This study re-enforces SICOT’s reputation as a world leading international conference with a strict peer-review process yielding high-quality presentations.

Sixty-four inactive nests of the solitary mud-daubing wasp Brachymenes dyscherus, reused by 5 inquiline species, were collected at Fazenda Santa Carlota, Cajuru, São Paulo, Brazil in 1995 and 1996. Monobia schrottkyi used 52 nests; among the 717 cells available for use, 502 were reused. The number of cells per nest varied from 3 to 24; 1 to 16 individuals emerged from September to April (154 males and 112 females). Forty-six cells were parasitized by Melittobia sp. (n = 44) and Ichneumonidae (n = 2). Monobia curvata used 3 nests; among the 50 cells available for use, 38 were reused and 15 males and 8 females emerged from August to November. Three cells were parasitized by Ichneumonidae. Montezumia petiolata occupied 1 nest; among the 8 available cells, 7 were reused and 2 males and 3 females emerged in September. Podium denticulatum used 2 nests; the 20 cells available for use were reused and 11 males and 4 females emerged in August. Trypoxylon rogenhoferi used 5 nests that had 65 available cells; 48 of them were reused, from which 19 males and 11 females emerged from September to November. Background: Presentations at scientific meetings are often used to influence clinical practice, yet many presentations are not ultimately published in peer-reviewed journals. Previously reported publication rates for orthopaedic specialties have varied from 34% to 52%. In addition, the publication rate of accepted abstracts is a strong indicator of meeting quality, and it has a potential effect on clinical practice. To date, no studies have investigated publication rates in the field of sports medicine, and specifically for abstracts presented at American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) meetings. Purpose: To determine the overall publication rate of abstracts presented at AOSSM annual meetings and whether there were differences in publication rates between poster and podium presentations. Study Design: Descriptive epidemiology study. Methods: A comprehensive search was performed using PubMed and Google Scholar for all published manuscripts pertaining to abstracts presented at the 2006 to 2010 AOSSM annual meetings. Abstracts were classified according to presentation type (podium, poster) and subsequently were categorized into subspecialty area and study design. For published abstracts, the journal and publication date were recorded. Results: A total of 1665 abstracts were submitted to AOSSM annual meetings from 2006 to 2010, with 444 abstracts accepted (26.7% overall acceptance rate); there were 277 podium presentations and 167 posters. Of these 444 abstracts, 298 (67.1%) were published within 3 years in peer-reviewed journals. The overall publication rates for podium and poster presentations were 73.3% and 56.9%, respectively. For the combined years of 2006 to 2010, podium presentations were 2.08 (95% CI, 1.39-3.11) times more likely to be published compared with poster presentations. Conclusion: The overall publication rate of abstracts presented at AOSSM annual meetings (67.1%) was much higher than that reported for other orthopaedic meetings (34%-52%), highlighting the overall educational value and information quality of AOSSM meetings. In addition, there was a significant difference in the overall publication rates for podium and poster presentations. These data suggest that the quality and type of poster and podium presentations may not be equal, and these potential differences should be kept in mind when considering changes in clinical practice according to type of meeting presentation. However, large uncertainties still exist in personal dosimetry and there are issues with compliance and incorrect wearing of dosimeters. The objective of the PODIUM (Personal Online Dosimetry Using Computational Methods) project was to improve personal dosimetry by an innovative approach: the development of an online dosimetry application based on computer simulations without the use of physical dosimeters. Occupational doses were calculated based on the use of camera tracking devices, flexible individualised phantoms and data from the radiation source. When combined with fast Monte Carlo simulation codes, the aim was to perform personal dosimetry in real-time. A key component of the PODIUM project was to assess and validate the methodology in interventional radiology workplaces where improvements in dosimetry are needed. This paper describes the feasibility of implementing the PODIUM approach in a clinical setting. Validation was carried out using dosimeters worn by Vascular Surgeons and Interventional Cardiologists during patient procedures at a hospital in Ireland. Our preliminary results from this feasibility study show acceptable differences of the order of 40% between calculated and measured staff doses, in terms of the personal dose equivalent quantity H p (10), however there is a greater deviation for more complex cases and improvements are needed. The challenges of using the system in busy interventional rooms have informed the future needs and applicability of PODIUM. The availability of an online personal dosimetry application has the potential to overcome problems that arise from the use of current dosimeters. In addition, it should increase awareness of radiation protection among staff. Some limitations remain and a second phase of development would be required to bring the PODIUM method into operation in a hospital setting.
