1. The CFT of SLE loop measures and the Kontsevich--Suhov conjecture

Abstract

This paper initiates the study of the conformal field theory of the SLE$_\kappa$ loop measure $\nu$ for $\kappa\in(0,4]$, the range where the loop is almost surely simple. First, we construct two commuting representations $(\mathbf{L}_n,\bar{\mathbf{L}}_n)_{n\in\mathbb{Z}}$ of the Virasoro algebra with central charge $c_\mathrm{M}=1-6(\frac{2}{\sqrt{\kappa}}-\frac{\sqrt{\kappa}}{2})^2\leq1$ as (unbounded) first order differential operators on $L^2(\nu)$. Second, we introduce highest-weight representations and characterise their structure: in particular, we prove the existence of vanishing singular vectors at arbitrary levels on the Kac table. Third, we prove an integration by parts formula for the SLE loop measure, and use it to define the Shapovalov form of the representation, a non degenerate (but \emph{not} positive definite) Hermitian form $\mathcal{Q}$ on $L^2(\nu)$ with a remarkably simple geometric expression. The fact that $\mathcal{Q}$ differs from the $L^2(\nu)$-inner product is a manifestation of non-unitarity. Finally, we write down a spectral resolution of $\mathcal{Q}$ using the joint diagonalisation of $\mathbf{L}_0$ and $\bar{\mathbf{L}}_0$. As an application of these results, we provide the first proof of the uniqueness of restriction measures, as conjectured by Kontsevich and Suhov. Our results lay the groundwork for an in-depth study of the CFT of SLE: in forthcoming works, we will define correlation functions on Riemann surfaces, and prove conformal Ward identities, BPZ equations, and conformal bootstrap formulas., Comment: 52 pages, 1 figure. Abstract

This paper presents a comprehensive study and implementations onto FPGA device of an Expectation Propagation (EP)-based receiver for QPSK, 8-PSK, and 16-QAM. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first for this kind of receiver. The receiver implements a Frequency Domain (FD) Self-Iterated Linear Equalizer (SILE), where EP is used to approximate the true posterior distribution of the transmitted symbols with a simpler distribution. Analytical approximations for the EP feedback generation process and the three constellations are applied to lessen the complexity of the soft mapper/demapper architectures. The simulation results demonstrate that the fixed-point version performs comparably to the floating-point. Moreover, implementation results show the efficiency in terms of FPGA resource usage of the proposed architecture.

3. Diagnostic value of 18-F fluorodeoxyglucose PET/CT and bone scan in Schnitzler syndrome

Abstract

Introduction: Schnitzler syndrome is an auto-inflammatory disease defined by chronic urticarial eruption and monoclonal gammopathy. 18F fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) is often performed, but its utility in Schnitzler syndrome has not been specifically investigated. The aim of this study was to determine whether PET/CT is informative in the diagnosis and follow-up of Schnitzler syndrome relative to other imaging techniques, including bone scans. Patients and methods: Patients of this study were selected from the French cohort established by Néel et al. All patients with a diagnosis of Schnitzler syndrome (according to Strasbourg’s and Lipsker’s criteria) who had at least one PET/CT were included. Data were collected from medical records. PET/CT scans were all reviewed by a nuclear physician blinded to the clinical and imaging data. Results: Ten patients underwent at least one PET/CT scan and all had at least one 99mTechnetium bone scan during their follow-up. The most frequent PET/CT abnormalities were diffuse bone-marrow and/or increased femoral fluorodeoxyglucose uptake, but they did not correlate with disease activity. Conversely, bone-scan abnormalities, including mainly increased radiotracer uptake in long bones, appeared to strongly correlate with Schnitzler syndrome activity. Discussion: PET/CT does not appear to be useful for the diagnosis and follow-up of Schnitzler syndrome. However, bone scans appear to be more sensitive for diagnosis and may correlate with clinical activity. Bone scans may be well positioned to distinguish Schnitzler syndrome relapse from other aetiologies of bone, joint, or muscle pain. Conclusion: Bone scans may be favoured over PET/CT in Schnitzler syndrome.

Abstract

Abstract Background Data on survival and prognosis factors in incident cohorts are scarce in systemic sclerosis (SStc). To describe survival, standardized mortality ratio (SMR), and prognosis factors in systemic sclerosis (SSc), we analyzed a multicenter French cohort of incident patients and performed a systematic review of the literature and meta-analysis. Methods A multicenter, French cohort study was conducted between January 1, 2000, and December 31, 2013. Patients were followed-up until July 1, 2016. A systematic review of the literature was carried out in MEDLINE and EMBASE up to July 2017. Meta-analysis was performed using all available data on SMR and hazard ratios of prognosis factors. Results A total of 625 patients (493 females, 446 lcSSc) were included. During the study period, 104 deaths (16.6%) were recorded and 133 patients were lost to follow-up. Overall survival rates at 1, 3, 5, and 10 years from diagnosis were 98.0%, 92.5%, 85.9%, and 71.7% respectively in the French cohort. Overall SMR was 5.73 (95% CI 4.68–6.94). Age at diagnosis > 60 years, diffuse cutaneous SSc, scleroderma renal crisis, dyspnea, 6-min walking distance (6MWD), forced vital capacity 8 mg/l were associated with a poorer survival after adjustment. Eighteen studies (11,719 patients) were included in the SMR meta-analysis and 36 studies (26,187 patients) in the prognosis factor analysis. Pooled SMR was 3.45 (95%CI 3.03–3.94). Age at disease onset, male sex, African origin, diffuse cutaneous SSc, anti-Scl70 antibodies, cardiac and renal involvement, interstitial lung disease, PH, and malignancy were significantly associated with a worse prognosis. Anti-centromere antibodies were associated with a better survival. Conclusions Overall, our study highlights a high mortality rate in SSc patients and confirms previously described prognosis factors related to skin extension and organ involvement while identifying additional prognosis factors such as autoantibody status, telangiectasia, 6MWD, and valvular disease.

Abstract

The increasing availability of free high-resolution earth observation data covering any point on the globe every few days led to the emergence of new remote sensing tools that can manipulate the very large volumes of data generated by those satellites. We present Sen2Chain, an open-source Python tool that can automate the processing of large time series of Sentinel-2 images for their use in various fields (e.g., environmental health, natural hazards, ecology). Sen2Chain allows downloading images from various earth observation data suppliers, applying geometric and atmospheric corrections using ESA's Sen2Cor tool, and generating and applying cloud masks. Sen2Chain's ability to extract time series of spectral indices (e.g NDVI, NDWI) provides simplified access to value-added environmental information for a wide range of end-users and applications. Sen2Chain enables all data processing stages to be customized and chained together, with the possibility to automate and parallelize the processing, and optimize data management. Sen2Chain is paving the way for the creation and processing of a large earth observation image database dedicated to users who require time-series and/or perform regular environmental observations. The Web tool Sen2Extract is also presented, which enables end-users with no expertise in remote sensing to easily extract time-series for 11 spectral indices values for specific regions of interest.

Abstract

Consider a log-correlated Gaussian field $\Gamma$ and its associated imaginary multiplicative chaos $:e^{i \beta \Gamma}:$ where $\beta$ is a real parameter. In [AJJ22], we showed that for any nonzero test function $f$, the law of $\int f :e^{i \beta \Gamma}:$ possesses a smooth density with respect to Lebesgue measure on $\mathbb{C}$. In this note, we show that this density is strictly positive everywhere on $\mathbb{C}$. 7. The height gap of planar Brownian motion is $\frac{5}{\pi}$

Abstract

We show that the occupation measure of planar Brownian motion exhibits a constant height gap of $5/\pi$ across its outer boundary. This property bears similarities with the celebrated results of Schramm--Sheffield [18] and Miller--Sheffield [12] concerning the height gap of the Gaussian free field across SLE$_4$/CLE$_4$ curves. Heuristically, our result can also be thought of as the $\theta \to 0^+$ limit of the height gap property of a field built out of a Brownian loop soup with subcritical intensity $\theta>0$, proved in our recent paper [3]. 8. Noise-like analytic properties of imaginary chaos

Abstract

In this note we continue the study of imaginary multiplicative chaos $\mu_\beta := \exp(i \beta \Gamma)$, where $\Gamma$ is a two-dimensional continuum Gaussian free field. We concentrate here on the fine-scale analytic properties of $|\mu_\beta(Q(x,r))|$ as $r \to 0$, where $Q(x,r)$ is a square of side-length $2r$ centred at $x$. More precisely, we prove monofractality of this process, a law of the iterated logarithm as $r \to 0$ and analyse its exceptional points, which have a close connection to fast points of Brownian motion. Some of the technical ideas developed to address these questions also help us pin down the exact Besov regularity of imaginary chaos, a question left open in [JSW20]. All the mentioned properties illustrate the noise-like behaviour of the imaginary chaos. We conclude by proving that the processes $x \mapsto |\mu_\beta(Q(x,r))|^2$, when normalised additively and multiplicatively, converge as $r \to 0$ in law, but not in probability, to white noise; this suggests that all the information of the multiplicative chaos is contained in the angular parts of $\mu_\beta(Q(x,r))$., Comment: 40 pages

9. Thick points of 4D critical branching Brownian motion

Abstract

We study the thick points of branching Brownian motion and branching random walk with a critical branching mechanism, focusing on the critical dimension $d = 4$. We determine the exponent governing the probability to hit a small ball with an exceptionally high number of pioneers, showing that this has a second-order transition between an exponential phase and a stretched-exponential phase at an explicit value ($a = 2$) of the thickness parameter $a$. We apply the outputs of this analysis to prove that the associated set of thick points $\mathcal{T}(a)$ has dimension $(4-a)_+$, so that there is a change in behaviour at $a=4$ but not at $a = 2$ in this case. Along the way, we obtain related results for the nonpositive solutions of a boundary value problem associated to the semilinear PDE $\Delta v = v^2$ and develop a strong coupling between tree-indexed random walk and tree-indexed Brownian motion that allows us to deduce analogues of some of our results in the discrete case. We also obtain in each dimension $d\geq 1$ an infinite-order asymptotic expansion for the probability that critical branching Brownian motion hits a distant unit ball, finding that this expansion is convergent when $d\neq 4$ and divergent when $d=4$. This reveals a novel, dimension-dependent critical exponent governing the higher-order terms of the expansion, which we compute in every dimension., Comment: 78 pages, 8 figures

11. Conformally invariant fields out of Brownian loop soups

Abstract

Consider a Brownian loop soup $\mathcal{L}_D^\theta$ with subcritical intensity $\theta \in (0,1/2]$ in some 2D bounded simply connected domain. We define and study the properties of a conformally invariant field $h_\theta$ naturally associated to $\mathcal{L}_D^\theta$. Informally, this field is a signed version of the local time of $\mathcal{L}_D^\theta$ to the power $1-\theta$. When $\theta=1/2$, $h_\theta$ is a Gaussian free field (GFF) in $D$. Our construction of $h_\theta$ relies on the multiplicative chaos $\mathcal{M}_\gamma$ associated with $\mathcal{L}_D^\theta$, as introduced in [ABJL23]. Assigning independent symmetric signs to each cluster, we restrict $\mathcal{M}_\gamma$ to positive clusters. We prove that, when $\theta=1/2$, the resulting measure $\mathcal{M}_\gamma^+$ corresponds to the exponential of $\gamma$ times a GFF. At this intensity, the GFF can be recovered by differentiating at $\gamma=0$ the measure $\mathcal{M}_\gamma^+$. When $\theta<1/2$, we show that $\mathcal{M}_\gamma^+$ has a nondegenerate fractional derivative at $\gamma=0$ defining a random generalised function $h_\theta$. We establish a result which is analoguous to the recent work [ALS23] in the GFF case ($\theta=1/2$), but for $h_\theta$ with $\theta \in (0,1/2]$. Relying on the companion article [JLQ23], we prove that each cluster of $\mathcal{L}_D^\theta$ possesses a nondegenerate Minkowski content in some non-explicit gauge function $r \mapsto r^2 |\log r|^{1-\theta+o(1)}$. We then prove that $h_\theta$ agrees a.s. with the sum of the Minkowski content of each cluster multiplied by its sign. We further extend the couplings between CLE$_4$, SLE$_4$ and the GFF to $h_\theta$ for $\theta\in(0,1/2]$. We show that the (non-nested) CLE$_\kappa$ loops form level lines for $h_\theta$ and that there exists a constant height gap between the values of the field on either side of the CLE loops., Comment: 80 pages, 4 figures. 12. Let's Resonate! How to Elicit Improvisation and Letting Go in Interactive Digital Art

Abstract

Participatory art allows for the spectator to be a participant or a viewer able to engage actively with interactive art. Real-time technologies offer new ways to create participative artworks. We hereby investigate how to engage participation through movement in interactive digital art, and what this engagement can awaken, focusing on the ways to elicit improvisation and letting go. We analyze two Virtual Reality installations, ''InterACTE'' and ''Eve, dance is an unplaceable place,'' involving body movement, dance, creativity and the presence of an observing audience. We evaluate the premises, the setup, and the feedback of the spectators in the two installations. We propose a model following three different perspectives of resonance: 1. Inter Resonance between Spectator and Artwork, which involves curiosity, imitation, playfulness and improvisation. 2. Inner Resonance of Spectator him/herself, where embodiment and creativity contribute to the sense of being present and letting go. 3. Collective Resonance between Spectator/Artwork and Audience, which is stimulated by curiosity, and triggers motor contagion, engagement and gathering. The two analyzed examples seek to awaken open-minded communicative possibilities through the use of interactive digital artworks. Moreover, the need to recognize and develop the idea of resonance becomes increasingly important in this time of urgency to communicate, understand and support collectivity.

15. Crossing exponent in the Brownian loop soup

Abstract

We study the clusters of loops in a Brownian loop soup in some bounded two-dimensional domain with subcritical intensity $\theta \in (0,1/2]$. We obtain an exact expression for the asymptotic probability of the existence of a cluster crossing a given annulus of radii $r$ and $r^s$ as $r \to 0$ ($s >1$ fixed). Relying on this result, we then show that the probability for a macroscopic cluster to hit a given disc of radius $r$ decays like $|\log r|^{-1+\theta+ o(1)}$ as $r \to 0$. Finally, we characterise the polar sets of clusters, i.e. sets that are not hit by the closure of any cluster, in terms of $\log^\alpha$-capacity. This paper reveals a connection between the 1D and 2D Brownian loop soups. 16. Care-seeking strategies of migrants during the transition from a specific primary healthcare facility for uncovered individuals to common ambulatory general practice: A French qualitative study

Abstract

Abstract Background Migrants have complex health needs but face multiple barriers to accessing health care. In France, permanent healthcare access offices (PASSs), as specific primary health care facilities (SPHCs), provide care to people without health insurance coverage. Once these patients obtain health insurance, they are referred to common ambulatory general practice. The aim of this study was to explore migrants’ experiences and strategies for seeking common primary care after having been treated by an SPHC. Methods We conducted a qualitative study based on grounded theory between January and April 2022. We held semi-structured interviews with migrants who had consulted a PASS. Two researchers performed an inductive analysis. Results We interviewed 12 migrants aged 22 to 65 to confirm data saturation. The interviewees relied on “referents”: professional referents (to be properly treated for specific health problems), guides (to find their way through the healthcare system), or practical referents (to address practical issues such as translation, travel needs, or medical matters). Those who considered the PASS to be a referent expressed disappointment and incomprehension at the time of discharge. Referral procedures and the first encounter with common ambulatory general practice were decisive in whether the interviewees accessed and stayed in a coordinated primary care pathway. The perceived quality of care depended on a feeling of being considered and listened to. For interviewees who received first-time services from an ambulatory general practice, the way in which they were referred to and their first experience with an ambulatory GP could influence their adherence to care. Conclusions The conditions of transition from SPHCs to common ambulatory general practice can impact migrants’ adherence to a coordinated primary care pathway. Referral can improve these patients’ care pathways and ease the transition from a PASS to ambulatory care. Healthcare professionals at SPHCs should pay special attention to vulnerable migrants without previous experience in ambulatory general practice and who depend on referents in their care pathways. For these patients, adapted referral protocols with further individual support and empowerment should be considered.

Abstract

Understanding the physics of star formation is one of the key problems facing modern astrophysics. The Cosmic Infrared Background (CIB), sourced by the emission from all dusty star-forming galaxies since the epoch of reionisation, is a complementary probe to study the star formation history, as well as an important extragalactic foreground for studies of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB). Understanding the physics of the CIB is therefore of high importance for both cosmology and galaxy formation studies. In this paper, we make high signal-to-noise measurements of the cross-correlation between maps of the CIB from the Planck experiment, and cosmic shear measurements from the Dark Energy Survey and Kilo-Degree Survey. Cosmic shear, sourced mainly by the weak gravitational lensing of photons emitted by background galaxies, is a direct tracer of the matter distribution, and thus we can use its cross-correlation with the CIB to directly test our understanding of the link between the star formation rate (SFR) density and the matter density. We use our measurements to place constraints on a halo-based model of the SFR that parametrises the efficiency with which gas is transformed into stars as a function of halo mass and redshift. These constraints are enhanced by combining our data with model-independent measurements of the bias-weighted SFR density extracted from the tomographic cross-correlation of galaxies and the CIB. We are able to place constraints on the peak efficiency at low redshifts, $\eta=0.445^{+0.055}_{-0.11}$, and on the halo mass at which this peak efficiency is achieved today $\log_{10}(M_1/M_\odot) = 12.17\pm0.25$. Abstract Background Primary mediastinal B-cell lymphoma (PMBL) and classical Hodgkin lymphoma (cHL) are distinct hematological malignancies of B-cell origin that share many biological, molecular, and clinical characteristics. In particular, the JAK/STAT signaling pathway is a driver of tumor development due to multiple recurrent mutations, particularly in STAT6. Furthermore, the XPO1 gene that encodes exportin 1 (XPO1) shows a frequent point mutation (E571K) resulting in an altered export of hundreds of cargo proteins, which may impact the success of future therapies in PMBL and cHL. Therefore, targeted therapies have been envisioned for these signaling pathways and mutations. Methods To identify novel molecular targets that could overcome the treatment resistance that occurs in PMBL and cHL patients, we have explored the efficacy of a first-in-class HSP110 inhibitor (iHSP110-33) alone and in combination with selinexor, a XPO1 specific inhibitor, both in vitro and in vivo. Results We show that iHSP110-33 decreased the survival of several PMBL and cHL cell lines and the size of tumor xenografts. We demonstrate that HSP110 is a cargo of XPO1wt as well as of XPO1E571K. Using immunoprecipitation, proximity ligation, thermophoresis and kinase assays, we showed that HSP110 directly interacts with STAT6 and favors its phosphorylation. The combination of iHSP110-33 and selinexor induces a synergistic reduction of STAT6 phosphorylation and of lymphoma cell growth in vitro and in vivo. In biopsies from PMBL patients, we show a correlation between HSP110 and STAT6 phosphorylation levels. Conclusions These findings suggest that HSP110 could be proposed as a novel target in PMBL and cHL therapy.

Abstract

The Cosmic Infrared Background (CIB) traces the emission of star-forming galaxies throughout all cosmic epochs. Breaking down the contribution from galaxies at different redshifts to the observed CIB maps would allow us to probe the history of star formation. In this paper, we cross-correlate maps of the CIB with galaxy samples covering the range $z\lesssim2$ to measure the bias-weighted star-formation rate (SFR) density $\langle b\rho_{\rm SFR}\rangle$ as a function of time in a model independent way. This quantity is complementary to direct measurements of the SFR density $\rho_{\rm SFR}$, giving a higher weight to more massive haloes, and thus provides additional information to constrain the physical properties of star formation. Using cross-correlations of the CIB with galaxies from the DESI Legacy Survey and the extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey, we obtain high signal-to-noise ratio measurements of $\langle b\rho_{\rm SFR}\rangle$, which we then use to place constraints on halo-based models of the star-formation history. We fit halo-based SFR models to our data and compare the recovered $\rho_{\rm SFR}$ with direct measurements of this quantity. We find a qualitatively good agreement between both independent datasets, although the details depend on the specific halo model assumed. This constitutes a useful robustness test for the physical interpretation of the CIB, and reinforces the role of CIB maps as valuable astrophysical probes of the large-scale structure. Abstract

This article presents a new Domain Specific Embedded Language (DSEL) dedicated to Software-Defined Radio (SDR). From a set of carefully designed components, it enables to build efficient software digital communication systems, able to take advantage of the parallelism of modern processor architectures, in a straightforward and safe manner for the programmer. In particular, proposed DSEL enables the combination of pipelining and sequence duplication techniques to extract both temporal and spatial parallelism from digital communication systems. We leverage the DSEL capabilities on a real use case: a fully digital transceiver for the widely used DVB-S2 standard designed entirely in software. Through evaluation, we show how proposed software DVB-S2 transceiver is able to get the most from modern, high-end multicore CPU targets.

Abstract

Background: COVID-19 is primarily known as a respiratory illness; however, many patients present to hospital without respiratory symptoms. The association between non-respiratory presentations of COVID-19 and outcomes remains unclear. We investigated risk factors and clinical outcomes in patients with no respiratory symptoms (NRS) and respiratory symptoms (RS) at hospital admission. Methods: This study describes clinical features, physiological parameters, and outcomes of hospitalised COVID-19 patients, stratified by the presence or absence of respiratory symptoms at hospital admission. RS patients had one or more of: cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, runny nose or wheezing; while NRS patients did not. Results: Of 178,640 patients in the study, 86.4 % presented with RS, while 13.6 % had NRS. NRS patients were older (median age: NRS: 74 vs RS: 65) and less likely to be admitted to the ICU (NRS: 36.7 % vs RS: 37.5 %). NRS patients had a higher crude in-hospital case-fatality ratio (NRS 41.1 % vs. RS 32.0 %), but a lower risk of death after adjusting for confounders (HR 0.88 [0.83–0.93]). Conclusion: Approximately one in seven COVID-19 patients presented at hospital admission without respiratory symptoms. These patients were older, had lower ICU admission rates, and had a lower risk of in-hospital mortality after adjusting for confounders.

24. Multiplicative chaos of the Brownian loop soup

Abstract

We construct a measure on the thick points of a Brownian loop soup in a bounded domain D of the plane with given intensity $\theta>0$, which is formally obtained by exponentiating the square root of its occupation field. The measure is constructed via a regularisation procedure, in which loops are killed at a fix rate, allowing us to make use of the Brownian multiplicative chaos measures previously considered in [BBK94, AHS20, Jeg20a], or via a discrete loop soup approximation. At the critical intensity $\theta = 1/2$, it is shown that this measure coincides with the hyperbolic cosine of the Gaussian free field, which is closely related to Liouville measure. This allows us to draw several conclusions which elucidate connections between Brownian multiplicative chaos, Gaussian free field and Liouville measure. For instance, it is shown that Liouville-typical points are of infinite loop multiplicity, with the relative contribution of each loop to the overall thickness of the point being described by the Poisson--Dirichlet distribution with parameter $\theta = 1/2$. Conversely, the Brownian chaos associated to each loop describes its microscopic contribution to Liouville measure. Along the way, our proof reveals a surprising exact integrability of the multiplicative chaos associated to a killed Brownian loop soup. 27. Impact of short-time annealing on AISI 8670 tool steel saw during industrial brazing process

Abstract

This study is focused on determining the impact of short-time annealing during industrial brazing process. Short-time annealing is commonly used to alleviate residual stresses resulting from the brazing process and represent in this study 30% of the process time. Samples were selected using two designs of experiments with three main parameters which are temperature of brazing, temperature of short-time annealing and time of first cooling for the first, and temperature of brazing for the second. Shear resistance tests allowed to refine the selection of samples for further investigation. EDS views, hardness measurements and residual stress measurements were conducted. From the obtained results, although slight differences were observed in the microstructure, hardness, and residual stresses of the samples, no clear pattern of impacts could be attributed to short-time annealing. In conclusion, this study did not find substantial evidence of short-time annealing having a significant impact on the microstructure, hardness, or residual stresses in the context of industrial brazing for wood cutting tools. Further research could explore other annealing parameters or alternative heat treatment methods to achieve the desired material properties.

Abstract

We consider the imaginary Gaussian multiplicative chaos, i.e. the complex Wick exponential $\mu_\beta := :e^{i\beta \Gamma(x)}:$ for a log-correlated Gaussian field $\Gamma$ in $d \geq 1$ dimensions. We prove a basic density result, showing that for any nonzero continuous test function $f$, the complex-valued random variable $\mu_\beta(f)$ has a smooth density w.r.t. the Lebesgue measure on $\mathbb{C}$. As a corollary, we deduce that the negative moments of imaginary chaos on the unit circle do not correspond to the analytic continuation of the Fyodorov-Bouchaud formula, even when well-defined. Somewhat surprisingly, basic density results are not easy to prove for imaginary chaos and one of the main contributions of the article is introducing Malliavin calculus to the study of (complex) multiplicative chaos. To apply Malliavin calculus to imaginary chaos, we develop a new decomposition theorem for non-degenerate log-correlated fields via a small detour to operator theory, and obtain small ball probabilities for Sobolev norms of imaginary chaos., Comment: Minor changes. Abstract

Brownian multiplicative chaos measures, introduced in [Jeg20, AHS20, BBK94], are random Borel measures that can be formally defined by exponentiating $\gamma$ times the square root of the local times of planar Brownian motion. So far, only the subcritical measures where the parameter $\gamma$ is less than 2 were studied. This article considers the critical case where $\gamma =2$, using three different approximation procedures which all lead to the same universal measure. On the one hand, we exponentiate the square root of the local times of small circles and show convergence in the Seneta--Heyde normalisation as well as in the derivative martingale normalisation. On the other hand, we construct the critical measure as a limit of subcritical measures. This is the first example of a non-Gaussian critical multiplicative chaos. We are inspired by methods coming from critical Gaussian multiplicative chaos, but there are essential differences, the main one being the lack of Gaussianity which prevents the use of Kahane's inequality and hence a priori controls. Background Despite the promising efficacy of immune checkpoint blockers (ICB), tumor resistance and immune-related adverse events hinder their success in cancer treatment. To address these challenges, intratumoral delivery of immunotherapies has emerged as a potential solution, aiming to mitigate side effects through reduced systemic exposure while increasing effectiveness by enhancing local bioavailability. However, a comprehensive understanding of the local and systemic distribution of ICBs following intratumoral administration, as well as their impact on distant tumors, remains crucial for optimizing their therapeutic potential.To comprehensively investigate the distribution patterns following the intratumoral and intravenous administration of radiolabeled anti-cytotoxic T-lymphocyte-associated protein 4 (CTLA-4) and to assess its corresponding efficacy in both injected and non-injected tumors, we conducted an immunoPET imaging study.Methods CT26 and MC38 syngeneic colorectal tumor cells were implanted subcutaneously on both flanks of Balb/c and C57Bl/6 mice, respectively. Hamster anti-mouse CTLA-4 antibody (9H10) labeled with zirconium-89 ([89Zr]9H10) was intratumorally or intravenously administered. Whole-body distribution of the antibody was monitored by immunoPET imaging (n=12 CT26 Balb/c mice, n=10 MC38 C57Bl/6 mice). Tumorous responses to injected doses (1–10 mg/kg) were correlated with specific uptake of [89Zr]9H10 (n=24). Impacts on the tumor microenvironment were assessed by immunofluorescence and flow cytometry.Results Half of the dose was cleared into the blood 1 hour after intratumoral administration. Despite this, 7 days post-injection, 6–8% of the dose remained in the intratumoral-injected tumors. CT26 tumors with prolonged ICB exposure demonstrated complete responses. Seven days post-injection, the contralateral non-injected tumor uptake of the ICB was comparable to the one achieved through intravenous administration (7.5±1.7% ID.cm–3 and 7.6±2.1% ID.cm–3, respectively) at the same dose in the CT26 model. This observation was confirmed in the MC38 model. Consistent intratumoral pharmacodynamic effects were observed in both intratumoral and intravenous treatment groups, as evidenced by a notable increase in CD8+T cells within the CT26 tumors following treatment.Conclusions ImmunoPET-derived pharmacokinetics supports intratumoral injection of ICBs to decrease systemic exposure while maintaining efficacy compared with intravenous. Intratumoral-ICBs lead to high local drug exposure while maintaining significant therapeutic exposure in non-injected tumors. This immunoPET approach is applicable for clinical practice to support evidence-based drug development.

Abstract

We characterise the multiplicative chaos measure $\mathcal{M}$ associated to planar Brownian motion introduced in [BBK94,AHS20,Jeg20a] by showing that it is the only random Borel measure satisfying a list of natural properties. These properties only serve to fix the average value of the measure and to express a spatial Markov property. As a consequence of our characterisation, we establish the scaling limit of the set of thick points of planar simple random walk, stopped at the first exit time of a domain, by showing the weak convergence towards $\mathcal{M}$ of the point measure associated to the thick points. In particular, we obtain the convergence of the appropriately normalised number of thick points of random walk to a nondegenerate random variable. The normalising constant is different from that of the Gaussian free field, as conjectured in [Jeg20b]. These results cover the entire subcritical regime. We construct the analogue of Gaussian multiplicative chaos measures for the local times of planar Brownian motion by exponentiating the square root of the local times of small circles. We also consider a flat measure supported on points whose local time is within a constant of the desired thickness level and show a simple relation between the two objects. Our results extend those of Bass, Burdzy and Khoshnevisan and in particular cover the entire $L^1$-phase or subcritical regime. Abstract

We consider the thick points of random walk, i.e. points where the local time is a fraction of the maximum. In two dimensions, we answer a question of Dembo, Peres, Rosen and Zeitouni and compute the number of thick points of planar random walk, assuming that the increments are symmetric and have a finite moment of order two. The proof provides a streamlined argument based on the connection to the Gaussian free field and works in a very general setting including isoradial graphs. In higher dimensions, we study the scaling limit of the thick points. Abstract

Flexibility is one mandatory aspect of channel coding in modern wireless communication systems. Among other things, the channel decoder has to support several code lengths and code rates. This need for flexibility applies to polar codes that are considered for control channels in the future 5G standard. This paper presents a new generic and flexible implementation of a software Successive Cancellation List (SCL) decoder. A large set of parameters can be fine-tuned dynamically without re-compiling the software source code: the code length, the code rate, the frozen bits set, the puncturing patterns, the cyclic redundancy check, the list size, the type of decoding algorithm, the tree-pruning strategy and the data quantization. This generic and flexible SCL decoder enables to explore tradeoffs between throughput, latency and decoding performance. Several optimizations are proposed to achieve a competitive decoding speed despite the constraints induced by the genericity and the flexibility. The resulting polar list decoder is about 4 times faster than a generic software decoder and only 2 times slower than a non-flexible unrolled decoder. Thanks to the flexibility of the decoder, the fully adaptive SCL algorithm can be easily implemented and achieves higher throughput than any other similar decoder in the literature (up to 425 Mb/s on a single processor core for N = 2048 and K = 1723 at 4.5 dB)., Comment: 11 pages, 7 figures, submitted to Springer Journal of Signal Processing Systems

To improve our understanding of the pathological role of TET2 mutations, Pronier, Imanci et al. use mice and human cells to show that TET2 downregulation promotes the production of macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF). In addition they show that whilst TET2 is recruited to the MIF promoter in healthy monocytes, decreased TET2 expression results in chronic overproduction of MIF - suggesting that MIF signaling could therefore constitute a potential therapeutic target for conditions associated with TET2 mutations.

Abstract

Several cases of phenotypic variability among family members with mucopolysaccharidosis type II (MPS II) have been reported, but the data are limited. Data from patients enrolled in the Hunter Outcome Survey (HOS) were used to investigate intrafamilial variability in male siblings with MPS II. As of July 2015, data were available for 78 patients aged ≥5 years at last visit who had at least one affected sibling (39 sibling pairs). These patients were followed prospectively (i.e., they were alive at enrollment in HOS). The median age at the onset of signs and symptoms was the same for the elder and younger brothers (2.0 years); however, the younger brothers were typically diagnosed at a younger age than the elder brothers (median age, 2.5 and 5.1 years, respectively). Of the 39 pairs, eight pairs were classified as being discordant (the status of four or more signs and symptoms differed between the siblings); 21 pairs had one, two, or three signs and symptoms that differed between the siblings, and 10 pairs had none. Regression status of the majority of the developmental milestones studied was generally concordant among siblings. Functional classification, a measure of central nervous system involvement, was the same in 24/28 pairs, although four pairs were considered discordant as functional classification differed between the siblings. Overall, this analysis revealed similarity in the clinical manifestations of MPS II among siblings. This information should help to improve our understanding of the clinical presentation of the disease, including phenotype prediction in affected family members.

Abstract

High sensitivity imaging tools could provide a more holistic view of target antigen expression to improve the identification of patients who might benefit from cancer immunotherapy. We developed for immunoPET a novel recombinant human IgG1 (termed C4) that potently binds an extracellular epitope on human and mouse PD-L1 and radiolabeled the antibody with zirconium-89. Small animal PET/CT studies showed that 89Zr-C4 detected antigen levels on a patient derived xenograft (PDX) established from a non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patient before an 8-month response to anti-PD-1 and anti-CTLA4 therapy. Importantly, the concentration of antigen is beneath the detection limit of previously developed anti-PD-L1 radiotracers, including radiolabeled atezolizumab. We also show that 89Zr-C4 can specifically detect antigen in human NSCLC and prostate cancer models endogenously expressing a broad range of PD-L1. 89Zr-C4 detects mouse PD-L1 expression changes in immunocompetent mice, suggesting that endogenous PD-1/2 will not confound human imaging. Lastly, we found that 89Zr-C4 could detect acute changes in tumor expression of PD-L1 due to standard of care chemotherapies. In summary, we present evidence that low levels of PD-L1 in clinically relevant cancer models can be imaged with immunoPET using a novel recombinant human antibody.

Abstract

Abstract Background Despite cases of factitious disorder imposed on self being documented in the literature for decades, it appears to remain an under-identified and under-diagnosed problem. The present study aimed to explore factitious disorder imposed on self in a series of French patients. Methods Patients 18 years old and over with factitious disorder imposed on self were retrospectively included by two independent reviewers according to DSM-5 criteria in Rennes University Hospital for the period 1995 to 2019. Patients were identified from a clinical data warehouse. Results 49 patients with factitious disorder imposed on self were included. Among them, 36 (73.5%) were female. The average age at diagnosis was 38.4 years. The 16 patients with a health-related profession were all female. Direct evidence of falsification was found in 20.4% of cases. Falsification was mainly diagnosed on the basis of indirect arguments: history of factitious disorder diagnosed in another hospital (12.2%), extensive use of healthcare services (22.4%), investigations that were normal or inconclusive (69.4%), inconsistent or incomplete anamnesis and/or patient refusal to allow access to outside information sources (20.4%), atypical presentation (59.2%), evocative patient behaviour or comments (32.7%), and/or treatment failure (28.6%). Dermatology and neurology were the most frequently involved specialities (24.5%). Nine patients were hospitalized in intensive care. Some of them received invasive treatments, such as intubations, because of problems that were only reported or feigned. The diagnosis of factitious disorder imposed on self was discussed with the patient in 28 cases (57.1%). None of them admitted to making up the disorder intentionally. Two suicide attempts occurred within 3 months after the discussion of the diagnosis. No deaths were recorded. 44.9% of the patients returned to the same hospital at least once in relation to factitious disorder imposed on self. Conclusions The present study reinforces data in favour of a predominance of females among patients with factitious disorder imposed on self. This diagnosis is difficult and is based on a range of arguments. While induced cases can be of low severity, cases that are only feigned can lead to extreme medical interventions, such as intubation.

Abstract

Oral-facial-digital syndromes (OFDS) gather rare genetic disorders characterised by facial, oral and digital abnormalities associated with a wide range of additional features (polycystic kidney disease, cerebral malformations and several others) to delineate a growing list of OFDS subtypes. The most frequent, OFD type I, is caused by a heterozygous mutation in the OFD1 gene encoding a centrosomal protein. The wide clinical heterogeneity of OFDS suggests the involvement of other ciliary genes. For 15 years, we have aimed to identify the molecular bases of OFDS. This effort has been greatly helped by the recent development of whole-exome sequencing (WES). Here, we present all our published and unpublished results for WES in 24 cases with OFDS. We identified causal variants in five new genes (C2CD3, TMEM107, INTU, KIAA0753 and IFT57) and related the clinical spectrum of four genes in other ciliopathies (C5orf42, TMEM138, TMEM231 and WDPCP) to OFDS. Mutations were also detected in two genes previously implicated in OFDS. Functional studies revealed the involvement of centriole elongation, transition zone and intraflagellar transport defects in OFDS, thus characterising three ciliary protein modules: the complex KIAA0753-FOPNL-OFD1, a regulator of centriole elongation; the Meckel-Gruber syndrome module, a major component of the transition zone; and the CPLANE complex necessary for IFT-A assembly. OFDS now appear to be a distinct subgroup of ciliopathies with wide heterogeneity, which makes the initial classification obsolete. A clinical classification restricted to the three frequent/well-delineated subtypes could be proposed, and for patients who do not fit one of these three main subtypes, a further classification could be based on the genotype.

Abstract Objectives To assess long-term efficacy of tocilizumab in treatment-naive patients with Takayasu arteritis (TAK). Methods Prospective open-labeled trial in naïve patients with TAK who received steroids at the dose of 0.7 mg/kg/day and 7 infusions of 8 mg/kg/month of tocilizumab. The primary endpoint was the number of patients who discontinued steroids after 7 infusions of tocilizumab. Secondary endpoints included disease activity and the number of relapses during 18-month follow-up.
