Purpose: To review the literature on CAD/CAM removable complete and partial dentures regarding patient- and clinician-reported outcomes. Materials and Methods: We performed an electronic search of the Cochrane Central Register of controlled trials (CENTRAL), MEDLINE (Ovid), EMBASE, Scopus, and Web of Science databases (last update: March 2023). All clinical trials or observational studies investigating CAD/CAM removable dentures (conventional or implant-retained) were included. Results: The search yielded 4,035 records and led to 58 included studies. Results suggest that CAD/CAM complete and partial dentures, when compared to the conventional ones, can save time and resources while being rated either noninferior or superior by patients and clinicians in most studies. However, consensus on which workflow offers fewer adjustments and postoperative sessions is still pending. Conclusions: The literature suggests that CAD/CAM complete and partial dentures can combine substantial time and cost savings, with patient and clinician experiences at least comparable to conventional prostheses. Given the low evidence level of existing studies, future well-designed randomized trials with large sample sizes are required to confirm those advantages. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: When carrying out prosthetic rehabilitation of edentulous and partially edentulous patients, great attention is paid to the personal attitude of the patients, their satisfaction with oral health and psychosocial interaction due to tooth loss, as well as the treatment of the resulting disorders. This attention has led to the development of various instruments for examining the quality of life related to oral health. The aim of this study was to develop and validate a reliable instrument in the Serbian language suitable for measuring oral health-related quality of life in patients who have been rehabilitated with complete or partial dentures. Мaterials and Methods: The study was unicentric and cross-sectional, and assessed the reliability and validity of a newly developed instrument for measuring the oral health-related quality of life in denture wearers (OHRQoL-DW). It was conducted on a sample of 200 adults from Serbia, wearers of various types of dentures, with a mean age 66.9 ± 10.3 years and male/female ratio of 86/114 (43%/57%). Results: The definitive version of the OHRQoL-DW scale with 28 items showed very good reliability, with Cronbach’s alpha = 0.938. Good temporal stability of the questionnaire was demonstrated, and satisfactory results were obtained for divergent and convergent validity tests. Exploratory factorial analysis revealed four domains of oral health-related quality of life in denture wearers: physical, psychosocial, environmental and aesthetic. Conclusions: The OHRQoL-DW scale is a reliable and valid generic instrument for measuring the oral health-related quality of life in patients wearing dentures, which is one of the most important outcomes of oral health in prosthetic treatment. Purpose: To evaluate the overall adaptation and retention of class I cobalt‐chromium (Co‐Cr) removable partial denture (RPD) frameworks using three different computer‐aided design and computer‐aided manufacturing (CAD‐CAM) technologies: Indirect wax milling with lost wax technique (LWT), direct milling, and selective laser melting (SLM) technique. Materials and Methods: An educational maxillary stone model (Kennedy class I) was scanned after preparing rest seats to create a resin model. The resin model was scanned, and the RPD framework was digitally designed and saved as a standard tessellation language (STL) file. Twenty‐four Co‐Cr RPD frameworks were then constructed and divided into three groups (n = 8) based on fabrication technique: Group A (indirect wax milling with LWT), Group B (direct milling), and Group C (selective laser melting). In Group A, the STL file was used to mill the design from castable resin blanks which were then cast by the LWT. In Group B, the STL file was used to mill the design from the Co‐Cr blank directly. Finally in Group C, the STL file was used to print the design from Co‐Cr powder using SLM 3D printed technique. Geomagic Control X software was used to measure the overall adaptation of the fabricated RPD frameworks, Retention was also tested using a universal testing machine. One‐way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) test was used to compare the three groups then the Tukey HSD post‐hoc test was used for pair‐wise comparisons. The significance level was set at p ≤ 0.05. Results: Regarding the overall adaptation, Group B (0.71 ± 0.02 mm) showed significantly higher adaptation than Group A (0.96 ± 0.06 mm) and Group C (1.05 ± 0.16 mm). Regarding retention, Group B (2.03 ± 0.34 N) showed significantly higher retention than Group A (1.00 ± 0.13 N) and Group C (0.78 ±0.17 N). Conclusion: Based on the findings of this in vitro study, Co‐Cr RPD frameworks fabricated by direct milling technique revealed the best adaptation and retention. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Additive manufacturing resins used in dental prosthetics may retain uncured monomers post-polymerization, posing potential long-term patient exposure risks. Understanding the biological safety of these materials is crucial, particularly for 3D-printed acrylic-based prosthodontic devices such as occlusal nightguards, complete and partial dentures, and temporary fixed prostheses. This paper reviews the literature evaluating the cytotoxicity of such materials. Following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines, we conducted a scoping review using the MESH keywords related to population (P), intervention (I), comparison (C), and outcome (O) across databases, including OVID Medline, EMBASE, and SCOPUS. Our search, limited to peer-reviewed English language articles from 2015 to 2023, resulted in 22 papers. These studies, utilizing digital light processing (DLP) or stereolithography (SLA) printing methods, varied in examining different 3D-printed materials, as well as washing and post-curing protocols. The primary experimental cells used were human gingival fibroblasts (HGF) and mouse fibroblasts (L929). There are no statistical differences in biocompatibility regarding different commercially available resins, washing solutions, or methods. Improvements in cell viability were related to an increase in washing time, as well as post-curing time. After the polishing procedure, 3D resin-based printed occlusal devices perform similarly to milled and conventionally processed ones. Our findings underline the importance of appropriate washing and post-curing protocols in minimizing the cytotoxic risks associated with these 3D-printed resin-based devices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

When it comes to kennedy's class I or class II partially edentulous (distal extension cases) patients, retention is a problem. This problem can be overcome by incorporating precision attachments on the most distal abutment. This case report aims to help achieve a better understanding of selection of the type of precision attachment and incorporation of saggix precision attachment to achieve a successful cast partial denture with sufficient retention. A cast partial denture with saggix precision attachment was selected for this particular case keeping in mind the age, needs, economic, hygiene maintenance of the patient, number of abutments and health of remaining teeth. The patient was diagnosed with kennedy's class II modification space 3 edentulism in maxillary arch and complete edentulism in the mandibular arch. Following post and core build up in a couple of teeth, tooth preparation was done and porcelain fused metal crowns were given in the remaining teeth with a number of direct retainers and occlusal rest seats. A full palatal coverage cast partial denture with unilateral saggix attachment was given. This case report explains how a distal extension edentulous patient can be rehabilitated without any surgical procedures and in a much less time period using a cast partial denture with saggix attachment. Background Objective Methods Results Conclusion Differences in the effects of cream‐type denture adhesives and home liners remain unclear.This cross‐sectional study aimed to clarify the differences in the oral‐hygiene status and masticatory performance between participants using cream‐type denture adhesives and those using home liners.Masticatory performance with and without cream‐type denture adhesives and home liners was evaluated using colour‐changeable chewing gum. Oral hygiene was assessed using the tongue coating index (TCI). Propensity‐score matching was performed using oral moisture, presence of palatal or mandibular protuberances, type of residual ridge, denture type (complete or partial denture), and denture retention as background factors. Wilcoxon signed‐rank test was used to examine the differences in masticatory performance with and without cream‐type denture adhesives and home liners and differences in masticatory performance and TCI between the cream‐type denture adhesive and home‐liner groups.This study included 38 and 40 cream‐type adhesive and home‐liner users, respectively, and 17 pairs were obtained after propensity‐score matching. The Wilcoxon signed‐rank tests showed that masticatory performance was significantly different with and without the use of home liners, and higher values were obtained with the use of home‐liners. However, the cream‐type denture adhesive and home‐liner groups showed no significant differences in terms of the change in masticatory performance with the use of them. Furthermore, Wilcoxon signed‐rank tests showed that TCI values were significantly high in the cream‐type adhesive group.The findings in this study suggest that home liners improve masticatory performance and that participants regularly using cream‐type denture adhesives have poorer oral hygiene. The case report of an 18 years adolescent is presented, who had an accident in a motorcycle and she was referred to the Dental Medicine School of Torreón city, Coahuila State in Mexico, for the placement of dental implants. The orthodontic treatment included 2 phases: initial, with the installation of a removable, provisional and corrective partial denture, where an upper and lower fixed appliance was placed using the Roth technique. Malocclusion, tooth absence and bone loss were corrected with this treatment. A dental transmigration was achieved and after 22 months of evolution, the patient achieved a functional occlusion. BACKGROUND: Research using panoramic X-ray images using deep learning has been progressing in recent years. There is a need to propose methods that can classify and predict from image information. OBJECTIVE: In this study, Eichner classification was performed on image processing based on panoramic X-ray images. The Eichner classification was based on the remaining teeth, with the aim of making partial dentures. This classification was based on the condition that the occlusal position was supported by the remaining teeth in the upper and lower jaws. METHODS: Classification models were constructed using two convolutional neural network methods: the sequential and VGG19 models. The accuracy was compared with the accuracy of Eichner classification using the sequential and VGG19 models. RESULTS: Both accuracies were greater than 81%, and they had sufficient functions for the Eichner classification. CONCLUSION: We were able to build a highly accurate prediction model using deep learning scratch sequential model and VGG19. Background: Denture‐induced oral Lesions (DIOLs) often manifests shortly after the placement or adjustment of new or realigned dentures, frequently resulting in severe pain and discomfort. Objectives: This study aimed to classify DIOLs placing a particular emphasis on assessing the associated pain. Methods: A prospective case study was conducted involving 126 patients who were fitted with a total of 193 dentures of various types at the Hadassah School of Dental Medicine. All patients underwent comprehensive intra‐oral examinations within 1–8 weeks following denture delivery, completed symptom questionnaires and had their medical records reviewed. Key variables documented included age, gender, overall health status, denture type, and a detailed description of the DIOLs. The description encompassed factors such as lesion location, shape, colour, size, border characteristics, ulcerative appearance, membrane coverage, 3D morphology (elevated, immersed and flat) and patient‐reported Verbal Pain Score (VPS) when touching the DIOLs, when wearing the denture, and when not wearing the denture. Results: Notably, 25.4% of denture wearers required no adjustments, while 14.4% necessitated more than three revisions. A majority (71.8%) of DIOLs cases were associated with mandibular complete dentures, primarily situated on the alveolar ridge. The mean VPS indicated a pain intensity of 7 ± 2.1, with temporary dentures in both jaws causing the most discomfort. Implant‐supported overdentures were particularly painful when placed in the mandible. Additionally, VPS scores were higher among older individuals and those with prior prosthetic experiences. A significant correlation was observed between pain intensity and presence of chronic health condition (0.036). Conclusions: This study revealed distinct characteristics of DIOLs and highlighted the multifactorial nature of pain experienced following the development of DIOLs. Insights into the influence of patient and denture characteristics on DIOLs and pain intensity can guide healthcare professionals in optimising patient comfort and satisfaction. Implant therapy is today widely regarded as a reliable treatment option to replace missing teeth, both for function and esthetics. Dental implants may be used to replace single teeth, replace multiple teeth, or provide abutments for complete dentures or partials. This topic focuses on the placement of dental implants. The correct surgical placement of a dental implant is mandatory to obtain the ideal aesthetic result. Only through proper treatment planning can the correct position and number of implants be determined. Before surgical placement of a dental implant, the adequate hard and soft tissue must be available. The clinician must consider the time needed for implant integration and soft-tissue healing, creation of emergence profiles, occlusal forces in relationship to progressive loading, and occlusal forces on the final restoration. Purpose: To assess stress and deformation in telescopic removable partial denture (RPD) frameworks manufactured with polyether ether ketone (PEEK) or graphene-modified polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), as well as the stress of the underlying mucosa, via nonlinear 3D finite element analysis. Materials and Methods: The 3D model of a full mandible was merged with a 3D-scanned Kennedy Class I model with bilaterally missing molars. The tissues, the telescopic crowns, and the RPD framework were designed and created using dental CAD software. The model was duplicated, and two materials--PEEK and graphenemodified PMMA--were assigned to the telescopic crowns and their frameworks. A force of 200 N was applied perpendicularly to the molars, and constraints were placed in the mandibular ramus and the inferior border. The generated von Mises stress and deformation of the frameworks, as well as the stresses of the telescopic crowns and mucosa, were also assessed. Statistical analysis of the differences between the tested materials was conducted via an independent samples t test at (α = .05). Results: The von Mises stresses of the telescopic crowns and their frameworks in the graphene-modified PMMA model were significantly higher than in the PEEK model. In contrast, the deformation of the telescopic RPD framework of the PEEK model was significantly higher than the graphene-modified PMMA model. The stresses of the mucosa in both models showed an insignificant difference. Conclusion: PEEK material showed better biomechanical performance than the graphene-modified PMMA in telescopic RPDs. Objective To explore the treatment options for congenitally missing teeth in patients with ectodermal dysplasia and provide a clinical reference. Methods A patient with ectodermal dysplasia with a concave midface, anterior protrusion of the chin, and underdevelopment of the lower third of the face presented with congenital loss of multiple maxillary teeth, malocclusion of the remaining teeth, congenital loss of mandibular dentition, small dental arches, and upper and lower alveolar bone hypoplasia. The patient was treated by means of a removable partial maxillary prosthesis, implants in the anterior region of the lower mandible designed with the assistance of digital guides, and bar-clamped implant-overlay prostheses. A literature review of the protocol for the treatment of this condition was also conducted. Results In addition to good retention and stability after denture wear, an excellent occlusal relationship, improvement of the patient's facial appearance, including upper and lower lip fullness, more equal balancing of the lower and middle 1/3 of the face, and improved masticatory function were achieved. The results of the literature review showed that patients with ectodermal dysplasia who are congenitally edentulous usually have a complex intraoral situation that makes restoration difficult, and common restorative modalities for these patients include fixed bridges, removable partial dentures, complete dentures, overdentures, and implant prostheses, which need to be selected according to the actual intraoral situation of each patient. Currently, there is no consensus on the treatment of congenitally missing teeth in patients with ectodermal dysplasia, and some scholars have suggested that fixed restorations be recommended for patients with fewer missing teeth, while the option of removable or implant-covered denture restorations should be given to patients with more missing teeth, with removeable prostheses for underage patients that are replaced with permanent fixed prostheses when the jaws have stabilized. Conclusion In patients with ectodermal dysplasia with congenital tooth loss, all factors should be taken into account, and an individualized restorative plan should be developed.

Purpose: To investigate the risk factors related to failure of removable partial dentures (RPDs) and to compare the survival of RPDs when abutment teeth have good vs reduced bone support. Materials and Methods: In this longitudinal patient record-based cohort study with a mean follow-up of 44.9 months, Cox regression models were used to evaluate the associations between clinical covariates and abutment tooth failure, as well as prosthesis failure. Results: A total of 142 patients and 172 RPDs were included. Of the 172 prostheses, 64 (nearly 40%) failed after a mean time of about 4 years. Loss of abutment teeth was the main reason leading to RPD failure, followed closely by poor fit and adaptation. No factor was shown to be statistically significant at the prosthesis level. Women (Hazard Ratio [HR] = 0.542), endodontic treatment (HR = 3.460), presence of post and core (HR = 0.302), presence of a prosthetic crown (HR = 3.403), and abutment tooth type (in relation to incisor: canine HR = 0.196, premolar HR = 0.449) were the risk factors statistically significantly associated with the loss of abutment teeth. The pre-prosthesis amount of bone support of the teeth did not affect their prognosis as abutments for RPDs. Conclusion: RPD treatment modality presented a high failure rate after a mean follow-up of 4 years. Vital abutment teeth had a better survival rate than the ones treated endodontically (whether restored with or without a post and core); nevertheless, the amount of bone support did not affect their survival. Dental alloys based on Co or Ni are commonly used in dentistry to fabricate dental prostheses, including crowns, bridges, and partial dentures, but even though both alloys are highly biocompatible, some patients may experience allergic reactions to nickel. This comparative study investigated the behavior of two dental alloys in the oral cavity, analyzing their microstructure, corrosion behavior, elastic modulus, hardness, and tensile strength for ingot and cast crowns. The microstructures of commercial Ni-Cr and Co-Cr samples were analyzed using optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD); elastic modulus and corrosion behavior were determined after immersing the samples in artificial saliva. Ni-Cr alloy has a corrosion potential more negative than Co-Cr alloy; this means that the first alloy is more likely to undergo corrosion than the second alloy. Ni-Cr sample with a higher elastic modulus is generally more rigid and less flexible than Co-Cr sample with a lower elastic modulus. The analyzed Co-Cr alloy has a higher resistance to corrosion, resulting in a more esthetically pleasing and longer-lasting restoration. The Co-Cr alloy also has a lower density than the Ni-Cr alloy, which, combined with its strength-to-weight ratio, makes them ideal for partial dentures where the prosthesis needs to be lightweight. The Co-Cr alloy is more flexible than the Ni-Cr alloy, making it stronger and more durable. This makes them an ideal choice for dental prostheses that need to withstand high stresses and loads. Objectives: There is a lack of data regarding the hygiene practices and sources of care among individuals in Yemen who wear removable complete and partial dentures. The purpose of this study was to explore the behaviors, hygiene habits, and sources of care information among patients who utilize complete and partial dentures in Yemen. Materials and Methods: A descriptive cross‐sectional research design was utilized, and a sample of 217 consecutive participants who wore removable complete and/or partial dentures were enlisted. A questionnaire was employed to collect data on demographic information, educational attainment, denture habits, denture cleaning practices, and encountered difficulties. Statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS software, and significance was determined using chi‐square tests, with a significance level of.05. Results: The data analysis revealed that a majority of the participants were male (72.4%) and had an average age of 65.14 years. Fifty‐three percent of the participants wore partial dentures, while 34.6% wore complete dentures. Only 6.5% of the participants wore both complete and partial dentures, and 6% wore overdentures. The majority of participants (88.47%) had dentures made of acrylic material. Additionally, 43% of participants wore dentures while sleeping, and 61.3% stored their dentures in dry places without a water‐filled container when not in use. The most commonly reported cleaning methods were water only (24.4%), followed by water and soap (19.4%). Furthermore, a large portion of the participants (59.4%) received denture care information from dentists. However, the majority (59%) did not visit a dentist for regular denture maintenance or any denture‐related issues. The data analysis did not reveal any significant association between age or education level and denture cleaning methods. Conclusion: This cross‐sectional survey provides insight into the hygiene knowledge and practices of removable denture wearers in Yemen. The findings underscore the necessity for enhanced oral hygiene education and awareness within this population. The study offers valuable insights for oral health professionals to design targeted interventions and educational initiatives aimed at promoting proper denture care and maintenance. PURPOSE. This study aims to assess and predict lifespan of dental prostheses using newly developed Korean Association of Prosthodontics (KAP) criteria through a large-scale, multi-institutional survey. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Survey was conducted including 16 institutions. Cox proportional hazards model and principal component analysis (PCA) were used to find out relevant factors and predict life expectancy. RESULTS. 1,703 fixed and 815 removable prostheses data were collected and evaluated. Statistically significant factors in fixed prosthesis failure were plaque index and material type, with a median survival of 10 to 18 years and 14 to 20 years each. In removable prosthesis, factors were national health insurance coverage, antagonist type, and prosthesis type (complete or partial denture), with median survival of 10 to 13 years, 11 to 14 years, and 10 to 15 years each. For still-usable prostheses, PCA analysis predicted an additional 3 years in fixed and 4.8 years in removable prosthesis. CONCLUSION. Life expectancy of a prosthesis differed significantly by factors mostly controllable either by dentist or a patient. Overall life expectancy was shown to be longer than previous research. Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of the Empower model of care (EMC) on reducing the addition of teeth to removable partial dentures (RPD). Methods: Data reports were generated through the Titanium electronic database to retrieve all clients at Monash Dental Services (MHDS) who participated in the EMC or received an RPD prior to the implementation of EMC was assessed over a two‐year period to determine if they had additional teeth added to their partial dentures (PD). A logistic regression was performed testing whether a combination of socio‐demographic and clinical variables, provided a multivariate explanation of the EMC outcome. Results: Prior to EMC, 2034 patients attended MHDS requiring RPDs with 363 returning to have teeth added. From 2018 to 2020, 38 of 584 participants in EMC returned to have teeth added to their PDs. Those in the 'High' risk group were two times more likely to return requiring additional teeth (OR = 1.99; 95%CI:1.31–3.02); each additional year of age increased the odds of requiring additional teeth (OR = 1.03; 95%CI:1.02–1.04). Participants of the EMC were more than two times less likely to require additional teeth (OR = 0.42; 95%CI:0.29–0.59). The variance in requiring additional teeth accounted for using the full model was 9.1% (η2 = 0.091). Conclusions: This analysis confirms the effectiveness of the EMC. This approach assists denture wearers to maintain good oral health and provides an effective way of managing public health funds by reducing denture repairs and additions. © 2023 Australian Dental Association. Background: The rehabilitation of maxillectomy defects is a challenging endeavour that necessitates customizing the procedure for each patient. The successful treatment for these patients requires a combined conventional and contemporary treatment options. The high‐tech prosthodontic treatment option for these defects and distal extension cases are combining fixed and removable partial dentures with precision/semi‐precision attachments. It will enhance retention, stability, esthetics and functional ability of the prosthesis. Methods: Three post‐Covid Mucormycosis patients reported after localised debridement and partial maxillectomy for definitive rehabilitation. For partial Maxillectomy patients, DMLS designed cast partial denture along with semi‐precision attachments (Preci‐vertix and OT strategy Rhein For patient with localized defect, DMLS designed cast partial denture was planned. For both patients the defect area was kept as hollow cavity (Closed or Open), in order to reduce the weight of the prosthesis. Results and Conclusion: The prosthodontic rehabilitation of these patient can be a simple and economical treatment options and it improves the stomatognathic functions and quality of life of the patient. The major hurdles during rehabilitation are retention and stability as there is no basal seat and hard tissue support. Hence, we tried a combined conventional and digital techniques in order to provide prosthesis with precise fit and accuracy as well as reducing the treatment time and visits of the patients. Introduction: The prevalence of adults with partially dental arches is expected to be more than imagined and patients requiring replacement of missing teeth are slowly increasing in number too. Removable partial dentures are known to provide for substantial replacement for the missing teeth with also added advantages when compared to fixed or implant prosthesis, mainly in elderly patients. Denture base material performance and durability are greatly influenced by wettability and water contact angle. In the case of dentures; adequate moisture distribution is necessary to ensure excellent wettability which has an influence on comfort and oral health. The purpose of conducting this study was to find out whether the advancements made using PEEK (Polyether ether ketone) would prove to be more beneficial than the current upgrades in the current material spectrum. Materials and methods: This study was performed under in vitro conditions. All the fabrication and processing was done only by one operator. The materials used were divided into three groups each comprising 20 samples. Group A was modified polymethylmethacrylate (Bredent Polyan), Group B was polyoxymethylene acetal resin (Biodentaplast) and Group C was PEEK. An Ossila Goniometer was used to measure the contact angle. The three types of liquids used for the testing included distilled water, natural saliva and mouth wetting solution (Wet Mouth Liquid, ICPA India). Human saliva was collected from an individual with no medical conditions and normal salivary secretion. Results: The data was analyzed using One-way ANOVA test and a pairwise comparison using the Post Hoc Tukey's Honest Significant Difference. In saliva, mouth wetting solution and distilled water, the highest mean and least mean contact angle was seen in Polyan and Biodentaplast respectively. A signicant difference was seen between PEEK and Polyan and Biodentaplast and Polyan on further comparison. Conclusion: From the resources and the materials at our disposal, it could be concluded that Polyan, Biodentaplast and PEEK and could be used as viable options in cast partial denture framework. The article "Hooray for the digital complete denture!" deals with the production of complete dentures and the advantages of digital technology. It emphasizes that the production of a complete denture is considered uneconomical, but is still needed due to the changing age structure in Germany. The article introduces the Baltic Denture System (BDS) by Merz Dental and highlights the benefits of using this digital technology. It also discusses market attractiveness and size, available technologies and materials, as well as the economic viability of digital work in complete denture prosthetics. While the demand for complete dentures will decrease, partial and hybrid prosthetics as well as implant prosthetics will increase. The age groups in Germany are presented for the years 2005, 2022, 2025, and 2030. The article emphasizes that digital solutions should offer a variety of options and have economic advantages. An example of manufacturing a complete denture using a digital workflow is given. It is emphasized that the comparison of production costs of selected systems in this model is not validated. It is stressed that overall production costs are more important than individual costs for materials or labor. Milling denture bases and tooth crowns in combination with adhesive bonding of the parts is economically unattractive and time-consuming. In comparison, milling monochromatic milling blanks in the BDS system is faster and more economically interesting. Printed dentures can also be economical, but they cannot yet be used as final long-term dentures. Dental implants are the most promising modality of tooth replacement in the modern era. Of late, peri-implant architecture has gained significant importance and forms the basic foundation for success of an implant restoration, with both the hard and soft tissue components around an implant playing vital roles in the osseointegration process. A 23-year-old man reported with a titanium membrane exposure around tooth site 16 (FDI tooth-numbering system) along with decreased attached gingival width and thickness. To gain soft tissue thickness, a rotated connective tissue graft was harvested, as was a "sticky bone" graft to gain bone volume. Connective tissue is one of the most promising modalities for soft tissue augmentation around both the natural tooth and implants. "Sticky bone," which is a more advanced form of bone grafting techniques, was implemented to achieve the benefits of injectable platelet-rich fibrin. Purpose: The objectives of this in vitro study were to evaluate changes in the retention force of the indexed conometric system subjected to repeated insertion-removal cycles and to examine the elements (matrix and patrix) that cause retention changes in the system as a result of repeated cycles. Materials and Methods: Monolithic zirconia crowns were cemented on 24 matrixes and 24 patrixes fixed on the implant analog. The pull-out test was performed with 12 matrixes and 12 patrixes attached, and the initial retention forces were recorded. Six of them were subjected to five insertion-removal cycles (5-cycle group), and the other six samples to 15 cycles (15-cycle group), and the final retention forces were calculated. Then, in both groups, an element of each pair exposed to the cycle was matched by an exchanging with new pieces: 5 cycles of matrix--new patrix (5M/0P), 5 cycles of patrix--new matrix (5P/0M), 15 cycles of matrix--new patrix (15M/0P), and 15 cycles of patrix--new matrix (15P/0M); thus, subgroups were created. A pull-out test was applied to these subgroups, and retention forces were recorded. Data were subjected to a paired-samples t test (α = .05). Two specimens from the 15-cycle group were randomly selected and analyzed by scanning electron microscopy. Results: In the 5-cycle group, the mean initial retention force was 153.13 ± 7.08 N, and the mean final retention force was 111.59 ± 18.30 N. In the 15-cycle group, the mean initial retention force was 143.30 ± 15.46 N, and the mean final retention force was 78.55 ± 17.03 N. There was a statistically significant loss of retention in both groups (P < .05). The change in retention in the 5P/0M and 15P/0M subgroups was not statistically significant (P > .05). However, significant loss of retention was found in the 5M/0P and 15M/0P subgroups (P < .05). Conclusion: There was a significant loss of the retention force after insertion-removal cycles. The increase in these cycles caused a further decrease in retention force. Introduction Foreign body ingestion can lead to esophageal complications, including perforation and impaction, in up to 20% of cases, making it a critical situation. Misdiagnosis or delayed diagnosis can cause severe complications. Case presentation We present the case of a 78-year-old female who swallowed an acrylic partial denture leading to progressive dysphagia and a vegetative ulcerative lesion on endoscopy. The lesion was initially misdiagnosed as a neoplasm of the esophagus. CT scan and a repeat endoscopy revealed the presence of a denture in the esophagus. The denture was successfully removed with a rigid esophagoscope, and no evidence of complications was reported in follow-up visits. Discussion Diagnosis of esophageal foreign bodies involves imaging studies and endoscopy, which is the gold standard for diagnosis and management. Decubital lesions or traumatic ulcers caused by dentures usually appear one or two day(s) after new dentures placement due to mismatch of the microrelief of the tissue and the microrelief of the gingival surface of the prosthesis. The study aimed to analyze factors that could influence the healing of ulcers during a one-week period after the placement of new partial and complete dentures. The prospective cohort study included 60 patients with new denture-induced traumatic ulcers. Traumatic ulcers were treated with denture adjustment, or combination of adjustment with 0.2% or 0.3% hyaluronic acid gels respectively for seven days. Healing of ulcers were observed through measurement of perimeter, area, maximum and minimum diameters on digital photographs. Multivariate logistic regression was used to predict other factors that could affect healing process. Perimeter, area, maximum and minimum diameters of denture-related ulcers were significant decreased after application of gels on the fifth and seventh day. The fifth day ulcers were not healed if dentures were only adjusted, while healed lesion was 40% for the other two groups. On the seventh day, the percent of healed lesion in the group with dentures adjustment was 20%, while it was increased to 75% healed lesions for combination of denture adjustment and hyaluronic acid gels. Anticoagulant/anti-aggregation drugs also had positive impact on ulcer healing; antihypertensives that included diuretics slowed ulcer healing, other monitored factors in the study did not show a significant impact. Hyaluronic acid in combination with the dentures adjustment for seven days leads to higher healing rate, and reduction in size of ulcers that did not heal until this time point. Introduction: Down syndrome (DS), an easily recognized congenital disease, is associated with a high prevalence of dental anomalies. Therefore, special dental care is required. Case presentation: This case report described the minimally invasive prosthetic rehabilitation of a 31‐year‐old female patient with DS. Prompt diagnosis, consultation with physicians and family, and accurate medical history were needed, and relevant dental, medical, mental, and behavioral factors were considered. A minimally invasive treatment plan was decided after clinical examination, orthopantomography (OPG), and study model analysis. For the upper jaw, an over denture was constructed. For the lower jaw, a simple metal‐frame partial denture was made. This treatment plan was decided after considering the difficulty in dentist‐patient collaboration and a small maxilla with poor positioning of teeth and negative overbite and over jet. Conclusion: Considering different patient factors including patient cooperation, as well as the medical and dental conditions associated with DS, a minimally invasive prosthodontic treatment option was recommended. Aim: The aim of this study was to analyze and compare the stress distribution on dental implants in various positions when used with implant-assisted removable partial dentures. Settings and Design: This was an in vitro study. Materials and Methods: A model representing a mandibular bilateral partially edentulous condition, with missing premolars and molars, was fabricated using epoxy resin. Two implants of similar diameter measuring 4.0 mm × 10 mm (Dentium, Korea) were inserted in the second molar and the second premolar region on either side of the model for comparing the biomechanical effect of various implant locations. Two types of loads 100N and 125N were applied vertically using universal testing machines in the premolar and molar regions. The loads on the implants beneath the cast partial denture were measured by physical stress analysis using a microstrain gauge. Statistical Analysis Used: A comparison of maximum stress observed at the premolar versus molar regions due to the application of the 100N and 125N loads was done using the Mann–Whitney U-test. Results: In physical stress analysis, obtained results were statistically analyzed, and the result was statistically not significant (P = 0.435 at 100N and P = 0.718 at 125N) in positional changes of implant. Conclusion: In the current study, the statistical analysis of physical stress revealed no significant differences in stress values between the loadings at the premolar and molar regions. This case report describes the clinical outcomes of three patients who received removable partial dentures with a completely digitally designed and manufactured metal framework. The initial intraoral impressions were prepared, and the resulting standard tessellation language files were sent to a dental laboratory, where the alloy framework was designed using inLab software and printed using a 3D printer or milled directly from a Co–Cr disc. The quality of fit of the framework was evaluated intraorally to confirm the laboratory design. The acrylic teeth were set, and the definitive partial dentures were delivered after the acrylic resin bases were processed. The follow‐up time was 4 years. This study involves a group of 168 teeth in 126 patients treated with crown lengthening and tooth reconstruction (experimental group), and a group of 75 teeth from 62 patients that were judged irrational to treat, extracted, and replaced (control group). In the control group, 13 teeth in 12 patients were not replaced; 37 were replaced with an implant-supported crown, 14 with a tooth-supported partial denture, 2 with a Maryland partial denture; and 9 patients requested a removable prosthesis. In the experimental group, 44 teeth in 37 patients received a conservative restoration (24 direct and 20 indirect), while 124 teeth in 94 patients received a full crown. All 168 teeth were surgically treated with minimally invasive crown lengthening. Endodontic treatment and orthodontic extrusion were applied when necessary. Treatment resulted in healthy periodontal and dental/implant conditions at the 1-year follow-up in both groups. Function and esthetics were described from satisfactory to extremely satisfactory by patients of both groups, with the exception of three patients in the control group who received a mobile prosthesis restoration and reported some difficulties in chewing. When comparing treatment cost and duration of the reconstructed teeth (experimental group) to the treatment cost and duration of extracted and replaced teeth (control group), the difference is significantly in favor of the preservation of natural teeth, both monetarily and in terms treatment time. Saving a tooth with a compromised crown is more favorable for the patient than extraction and replacement. In order to achieve favorable ridge preservation (RP) or ridge augmentation (RA) in substantial vertical and/or horizontal bone defects and extraction sockets, a barrier membrane is usually employed. Recently, it was reported that a novel surgical technique for periodontal regenerative surgery applying Er:YAG laser (ErL) irradiation to form blood coagulation on the grafted bone surface, without using a membrane, resulted in sufficient bone regeneration in bone defects. This case series aims to present clinical and radiographic outcomes of ErL-assisted bone regenerative therapy (Er-LBRT), without use of membranes, for RP/RA before or after implant placement. In 10 cases, ErL irradiation was applied (50 mJ/pulse and 20 Hz without water spray in noncontact, defocused mode for approximately 60 seconds) to enhance the blood clot on the entire surface of the grafted bovine bone mineral before suturing. Wound healing was favorable without any postoperative complications such as wound gaping or infection of the grafted material. In all cases, dramatic bone regeneration was observed. After prosthetic treatment, peri-implant tissue and regenerated bone were stable and well-maintained during the follow-up period in each case. Additive manufacturing (AM) of CoCrMo metallic implants is growing in the orthopedic and dental fields. This is due to the traditional alloy's excellent corrosion resistance and mechanical properties. AM processes like selective laser melting (SLM) require less time, materials, and waste than casting or subtractive manufacturing complex‐geometry structures (bridges, partial dentures, etc.). The objective of this work was to investigate the low cycle tribological and tribocorrosion characteristics of AM CoCrMoW alloys compared to wrought LC CoCrMo (ASTM F‐1537) to assess this AM alloy's performance. Fretting and tribocorrosion testing was performed in air (wear only), PBS (wear + corrosion), and PBS with 10 mM H2O2 (wear + corrosion + inflammation) by a single diamond asperity. No variation between alloys in volume of material removed (p =.12), volume of plastic deformation (p =.13), and scratch depth (p =.84) showed that AM was substantially similar in wear resistance to LC in air and PBS. AM exhibited significantly higher fretting currents (p <.01) at loads up to 100 mN (IAMPBS = 57 nA and IAMH2O2 = 49 nA) than LC CoCrMo (ILCPBS = 30 nA) and (ILCH2O2 = 29 nA). In PBS, wear track depth linearly correlates to fretting current, averaged over 100 cycles. Additionally, fretting currents of both alloys were significantly lower in simulated inflammatory conditions compared to PBS alone. AM alloy has generally similar wear and tribocorrosion resistance to wrought LC CoCrMo and would be ideal for patient specific dentistry or orthopedics where precise, complex geometries are required. Partial or complete dentures are constructed from thermoplastic resins that are thermally processed and molded. This review examines the presently available evidence for the cytotoxicity of thermoplasticized denture base resins on human gingival epithelial cells, adipose cells, and fibroblasts; human amnion fibroblasts; and mouse fibroblasts. Electronic searches were performed on PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar databases to identify relevant articles to be included in the review until September 2022. Clinical, in vivo, and in vitro studies in English language were searched for. The quality of the studies was assessed using the Toxicological data Reliability Assessment tool (ToxRTool) developed by the European Commission's Joint Research Centre. GRADE assessment was used to evaluate the certainty of evidence. Seven in vitro studies were included in the review. The overall risk of bias was determined to be high, with the majority of studies assessed found to be reliable with restrictions or not reliable. Only two studies were considered reliable without restrictions based on ToxRTool assessment. The effect of thermoplastic denture base resins on viability and cell adherence of human gingival or amnion fibroblasts and mouse fibroblasts (L929s) is not significant. Conditioned media from unpolished specimens of resins were significantly more toxic to cultured cells than those from polished specimens. This may be of concern in cases of poor post-processing of dentures. Based on the limited evidence available, there is low-certainty evidence that thermoplastic denture base resins appear to be biocompatible and show insignificant cytotoxicity. Further well-designed trials adhering to standard reporting guidelines and using objective measures are necessary before outlining universal guidelines for best practice. Long-term in vivo and clinical assessment is necessary to corroborate laboratory findings with clinical outcomes. Denture base resins are in constant contact with oral tissues, and cytotoxic components released by the resins may irritate or inflame the tissues or provoke an allergic response. Introduction: Tissue conditioners have been widely used in various clinical applications in dentistry, such as treating inflamed alveolar ridges, temporarily relining partial and complete dentures, and the acquisition of functional impressions for denture fabrication. This study aimed to investigate the mechanical properties of the most prevalent tissue conditioner materials on the market, including Tissue Conditioners (TC), Visco Gel (VG), and FITT (F). Materials and Methods: The three tissue conditioners, TC, VG, and F, were assessed based on the parameters mentioned above. The following tests were performed based on the ISO 10139-1 and ISO 10139-2 requirements: Shore A hardness, denture plate adhesion, sorption, water solubility, and contraction after 1 and 3 days in water. Additional tests are described in the literature, such as ethanol content and gelling time. The tests were carried out by storing the materials in water at 37 °C for 7 days. Results: The gel times of all tested materials exceeded 5 min (TC = 300 [s], VG = 350 [s]). In vitro, phthalate-free materials exhibited higher dissolution in water after 14 days (VG = −260.78 ± 11.31 µg/mm2) compared to F (−76.12 ± 7.11 µg/mm2) and experienced faster hardening when stored in distilled water (F = 33.4 ± 0.30 Sh. A, VG = 59.2 ± 0.60 Sh. A). They also showed greater contractions. The connection of all materials to the prosthesis plate was consistent at 0.11 MPa. The highest counterbalance after 3 days was observed in TC = 3.53 ± 1.12%. Conclusions: Materials containing plasticizers that are not phthalates have worse mechanical properties than products containing these substances. Since phthalates are not allowed to be used indefinitely in medical devices, additional research is necessary, especially in vivo, to develop safe materials with superior functional properties to newer-generation alternatives. Introduction: The aim of this prospective descriptive study was to analyse the possible variables associated with marginal bone loss in rehabilitated implants (Proclinic S.A.U, Zaragoza, Spain) two years after their prosthetic loading. Materials and Methods: Three clinical centres collaborated for a period of two years after the prosthetic rehabilitation of the implants (Proclinic S.A.U, Zaragoza, Spain), in which marginal bone loss and the possible associated variables were evaluated. The collection form comprised different variables throughout different stages of the implant procedure, from implant insertion to the subsequent prosthetic rehabilitation, over a two-year period. Data of the patients and implant characteristics were studied. Statistical analysis was performed with SPSS for qualitative (univariate logistic regressions, Chi2 test, and Haberman's corrected standardised residuals) and quantitative variables (Kolmogorov–Smirnov test). Results: The total study sample consisted of 218 implants (Proclinic S.A.U, Zaragoza, Spain). The sample presented a frequency of 99 men (45.4%) and 119 women (54.6%). The mean age of the patients among the reported cases was 58.56 ± 10.12 years. A statistically significant association was found between marginal bone loss 2 years after prosthetic rehabilitation placement and several variables, including age (under 55 years, 0.25 mm ± 0.56; 55–64 years, 0.74 mm ± 0.57; over 65 years, 0.63 mm ± 0.55; p < 0.0001), gender (female, 0.74 mm ± 0.61; male, 0.34 mm ± 0.51; p < 0.0001), bone quality (D1, 0.75 mm ± 0.62; D2, 0.43 mm ± 0.57; D3, 0.65 mm ± 0.60; p < 0.01), implant diameter (up to 4 mm, 0.49 mm ± 0.58; more than 4 mm, 1.21 mm ± 0.30; p < 0.0001), prosthetic connection type (direct to implant, 0.11 mm ± 0.58; transepithelial straight, 0.67 mm ± 0.57; transepithelial angled, 0.33 mm ± 0.25; p < 0001), implant model (internal conical, 0.17 mm ± 0.24; external conical, 0.48 mm ± 0.61; external cylindrical, 1.12 mm ± 0.32; p < 0.0001), prosthetic restoration type (full denture, 0.59 mm ± 0.59; partial denture, 0.50 mm ± 0.85; unitary crown, 0.08 mm ± 0.19; p < 0.05), and insertion torque (>35 N/cm, 0.53 mm ± 0.58; <35 N/cm, 1.04 mm ± 0.63; p < 0.01). Purpose: The aim of this study was to clinically and radiographically evaluate mandibular overdentures supported by four short implants combined with two different doses of photobiomodulation (PBM). Materials and Methods: A split-mouth design was applied; six completely edentulous male subjects received four short implants in the canine and second premolar area. Short implants were inserted via a digital fully guided approach with a stereolithographic surgical guide. All patients received five PBM sessions immediately after surgery and every 48 hours. Group A (n = 6) implants on the right side received a dose of 3.75 J/cm2, and group B (n = 6) implants on the left side received a dose of 7.5 J/cm2. Evaluation of peri-implant probing depth (PIPD), modified Gingival Index (MGI), and vertical bone loss was performed at the time of prosthetic loading and 6 and 12 months later. The implant stability quotient (ISQ) was also assessed 6 and 12 months after loading. Results: There was no significant difference between both groups regarding PIPD values. However, a minor but significant increase from the baseline (P < .001) was observed in PIPD values in both groups after 12 months. The MGI scores at the different time intervals were very low for both groups. The mean vertical bone loss after 12 months was minimal for both groups but statistically significant from the baseline (P < .001). ISQ values for both groups after 12 months revealed a significant increase from the baseline, and group B values were significantly higher than those of group A. Conclusion: Within the limitations of this study, a mandibular overdenture supported by four short implants is a valid treatment modality for atrophic mandibles, and a PBM dose of 7.5 J/cm2 has a potential positive influence on implant healing and osseointegration. Augmentation of alveolar ridge defects is technique-sensitive procedure in dental implantology. Depending on the size of the defect, it may be necessary to use autogenous bone blocks. However, patients may be against these blocks as these procedures are surgically invasive. Case report: This report describes the restoration of a partially edentulous mandible, which suffered a major bone defect from the right canine to the third molar site after multiple implant losses. The use of a CAD/CAM allogeneic cancellous bone block from a living donor bone was planned for the reconstruction of the alveolar ridge at the defected site. A CBCT scan was taken and the virtual planning of the bone augmentation and placement of four implants was performed. The milled bone block was fixed for augmentation and the implants were placed using a CBCT-generated surgical guide. After osseointegration, a CAD/CAM-fabricated screw-retained metal-ceramic implant fixed partial denture with angulated screw channels was delivered. Results: The use of CAD/CAM-milled, allogeneic bone block resulted in a time-efficient and simplified reconstruction of the defect because no donor site was used, and the fit of the block on the native bone was uneventful and fast. At the 1-year follow-up, an average peri-implant vertical soft tissue decrease of 1 mm on buccal and 0.3mm on lingual sites was observed and the peri-implant tissues were healthy. Purpose: To identify the oral hygiene habits and denture hygiene status (e.g. sociodemographic characteristics, general health status) of complete denture wearers in Central Transylvania, Romania. Materials and Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was based on an original self-administered questionnaire. It included 162 patients who experienced complete tooth loss in one or both jaws and wore polymethylmethacrylate acrylic (PMMA) complete dentures. The exclusion criteria were partial dentures, dentures fabricated from materials other than PMMA, and the patient being unable to provide all the required information. The questionnaire solicited information regarding sociodemographic status, general health and oral hygiene-related habits. The dentures were clinically evaluated in order to assess denture hygiene. Results: Most respondents were completely edentulous (38.0% wore maxillary dentures, 10.6% mandibular dentures, while 51.6% had both), with an average age above 60, all wearing dentures. The clinical evaluation of the dentures revealed that 12.3% exhibited optimal hygiene status, 40.1% good, 32.7% unsatisfactory and 14.8% bad, with more women than men having well-cleaned dentures. Cleaning frequency was found to be 2-3 times per day for 54.3% of the patients, with 93.2% of the subjects using a toothbrush and 76.5% using toothpaste. Most of the participants felt at ease with the cleaning procedures. Only 30.9% of the respondents reported denture removal overnight. The results showed that the hygiene of the patients' dentures was not correlated with their answers regarding oral hygiene habits. Conclusions: Competent oral health and denture hygiene promotion should be established, especially regarding nocturnal denture removal, denture hygiene methods, instruments and cleaning frequency. Placement of short implants is a common approach to rehabilitate edentulous areas. The objective of this study was to evaluate the long-term survival of 7.0- and 8.5-mm implants placed in either a delayed or immediate loading protocol. Life table analysis revealed the implants treated with the delayed loading protocol had a 90.9% survival rate and the implants treated with the immediate loading protocol had a survival rate of 92.0%. The results of this 8-year prospective study demonstrate similar survival rates of short, cylindrical threaded implants placed by either a delayed or immediate loading protocol. Purpose: The aim of this preliminary study was to evaluate maxillary bone resorption with conventional dentures and implant-supported prostheses opposed by distal-extension removable partial dentures (RPDs). Materials and Methods: Fifteen patients (seven women and eight men) with totally edentulous maxillary ridges and partially edentulous mandibular ridges (Class I Kennedy classification) received maxillary fixed prostheses on four implants and mandibular distal-extension RPDs (study group). The control group consisted of 15 patients who received conventional maxillary dentures and distal-extension mandibular RPDs without any implant treatment but were matched to the study group and acted as a historical group. Evaluation of vertical maxillary bone resorption for both groups was made at the time of prosthesis insertion (T0) and 5 years later (T2) using the proportional area measurements made on digital panoramic radiographs for anterior and posterior areas. Results: The control group showed significantly higher vertical bone loss than the test group (P < .001). The control group had 0.270 higher maxillary bone loss than the test group. For both groups, anterior maxillary areas showed significantly higher bone loss than posterior areas (P < .003). Anterior maxillary areas had 0.122 higher bone loss compared with posterior areas. Women had 0.035 higher maxillary bone loss compared with men. Conclusion: Within the limitations of this study, implant-supported fixed prostheses for the edentulous maxilla opposed by remaining mandibular anterior teeth reduce maxillary anterior and posterior alveolar bone loss compared with conventional dentures. Purpose: To evaluate the antimicrobial activity of effervescent tablets on the surfaces of cobalt-chromium (Co-Cr) and heat-polymerized resin.Materials and Methods: From a metal matrix, 55 circular wax patterns (Ø 12 × 3 mm) were obtained and cast in Co-Cr alloy. Muffles for acrylic resin were prepared from circular wax patterns (Ø 20 × 5 mm). The metal specimens were positioned in the muffle, and the resin was pressed into its surroundings to simulate the composition of a removable partial denture (RPD). The mixed specimens were sterilized and contaminated with Streptococcus mutans, Staphylococcus aureus, Candida albicans, and Candida glabrata, composing a multispecies biofilm, and subsequently immersed according to the manufacturer's instructions in four cleansing solutions: Polident 3 Minute denture cleanser (P3M), Polident for Partials (PP), Corega Tabs (CT), and NitrAdine (Ni); as well as distilled water (positive control) and no contamination (negative control). After cleansing, viable microorganisms were quantified by counting the number of colony-forming units (CFU/mL). From the CFU values, log10(CFU + 1) values were calculated for statistical analysis. Kruskal-Wallis test with Dunn post hoc test were performed (α = .05).Results: There was a significant reduction (P = .001) of S mutans after immersion in Ni (median [95% CI] 3.27 [2.92; 3.45]) compared to the CT (3.86 [3.75; 4.01]) and control (4.08 (3.73; 4.22]) groups, while the PP (3.63 [3.28; 4.11]) and P3M (3.83 [3.61; 4.04]) groups presented an intermediate action. The effervescent tablets did not present antimicrobial action against S aureus (P = .537), C albicans (P = .795), or C glabrata (P = .519).Conclusion: Ni exhibited moderate antimicrobial action. The goal of this study was to evaluate the cumulative survival rate and marginal bone loss (MBL) of extra-short (5- and 6-mm-long) and short (6.5-mm-long) implants inserted into severely atrophic, partially edentulous posterior maxillae and mandibles that were immediately restored with provisional fixed dental prostheses. Materials and Methods: Between October 2013 and December 2017, partially edentulous patients with severe vertical bone atrophy in the posterior area in need of replacement of premolars and/or molars with fixed prostheses were enrolled in the study. Analysis of cumulative survival rate and MBL was determined with respect to implant length at the longest, biannual follow-up period (38 ± 10 months; range: 25 to 48 months). Results: Fifty-five patients were included in the study. A total of 62 extra-short (5 and 6 mm), 15 short (6.5 mm), and 69 standard-length (≥ 10 mm) implants were immediately placed and loaded. Cumulative survival rates were similar for all implants (99.3%). One mandibular extra-short implant failed and was removed but was replaced 2 months later with another implant of the same length and diameter and successfully reloaded. Implant length did not impart any significant differences in MBL, though the presence or absence of platform switching was influential. Conclusion: The cumulative survival rate and MBL reported in this study encourage the use of short and extra-short implants to immediately restore with fixed prostheses partially edentulous patients with severe vertical bone atrophy in posterior areas. Purpose: The aim of this investigation was to compare the chewing efficiency after immediate and delayed loading of mini-implants that served as supplementary support for removable partial dentures (RPDs). Materials and Methods: In this four-center randomized trial, patients who had RPDs in arches with unfavorable tooth distributions, ie, no canine and at most two posterior teeth in one or both quadrants, received strategic mini-implants with ball abutments. The mini-implants in group A were loaded immediately either by housings with O-rings (insertion torque ≥ 35 Ncm) or by soft relining material (insertion torque < 35 Ncm). In group B, the RPDs were only hollowed over the balls. After 4 months, the soft relined RPDs and all RPDs of group B received the housings. Masticatory efficiency was evaluated with a validated mixing ability test of two-colored chewing gum before surgery and 14 days, 4 months (before housing pickup), 4.5 months, and 12 months after surgery. The circular variance of hue was the measure of mixing. Results: From 76 participants with 79 RPDs, 38 each were randomly allocated to group A or B. In group A, the housings in six participants were picked up immediately, and the remaining RPDs were primarily soft relined. There was a significant group difference only after 4 months. The mixing ability was better after immediate loading than after delayed loading (P < .0001). In group B, the chewing efficiency was notably deteriorated after the RPDs were hollowed over the ball abutments. However, immediately after all housings were picked up, the chewing efficiency in both groups was substantially improved, and the variance of hue values after 1 year were very similar in the groups. Conclusion: The chewing performance can be improved by inserting supplementary mini-implants under existing RPDs with unfavorable tooth support. Rehabilitation of partially edentulous arches with a cast partial denture is a commonly opted treatment modality where fixed prosthesis is not indicated. However, due to the aesthetic compromise of the various metal components when placed in the esthetic zone, different modifications have been considered for its fabrication. This case report describes a novel way of restoring partially edentulous arches with increased masticatory efficiency and good emergence profile without compromising the patient's esthetic desires. The report describes an aesthetic alternative using thermoplastic denture base clasp like extension for anterior abutment teeth while restoring the missing teeth with a cast partial denture. The primary prosthetic objectives for marginal mandibulectomy defects are to restore mastication, speech and appearance by replacement of teeth. With marginal resection of mandible followed by reconstruction with submental flap, the major prosthesis concern is related to soft tissue potential for support due to loss of vertical ridge height, loss of vestibular depth, mobility and displaceability of the flap that frequently unseats the prosthesis. This article describes prosthetic rehabilitation with a cast partial denture for missing teeth and restoring function for a patient who had undergone wide lesion excision of verrucous carcinoma with marginal mandibulectomy. Objective: To evaluate data with regards to the current prevalence of various Kennedy's classes of edentulism and their association with age. Material and Methods: A total of 157 patients were selected, and the prevalence of partial edentulism among the selected patient was recorded. Patients were grouped into three age groups. Kennedy's classification was used to determine the pattern of partially edentulous arches. Data was analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences version 20.0 for Windows. Results: The results showed that the occurrence of Kennedy Class III partial edentulism was 44.9% in the maxillary arch and 67.4% in the mandibular arch, followed by Class II in both the maxillary and mandibular arch with an average of 15.9% in the maxillary arch and 4.9% in the mandibular arch. Based on these results, Kennedy's Class III was the most prevalent partially edentulous pattern 57.8% among the maxillary and the mandibular arch. Conclusions: Among selected patients, the prevalence of Class I and II was predominant among elderly population of > 50 years, whereas Class III was present among all ages. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
