Background: Spiroergometry is important for modern performance diagnostics, and reference values have been evaluated for bicycle and treadmill ergometers. The aim of this study is to assess the comparability of bicycle and hand-crank spiroergometry and its associated parameters, as hand-crank spiroergometry can be used during rehabilitation in patients with definitive or temporally impairment of the lower extremity. Methods: Thirty-seven healthy volunteers completed 2 exhausting performance diagnostics on hand-crank and bicycle spiroergometry. Participants' anthropometric characteristics, maximum power, multiple exertion criteria, maximum aerobic capacity, and maximum heart rate were detected, and ventilatory and metabolic thresholds were determined. Results: The maximum power, maximum heart rate, maximum aerobic capacity, and ventilatory thresholds were significant higher on the bicycle ergometer (P <.001). The metabolic thresholds occurred on higher lactate values on the hand-crank ergometer. Equations for calculating maximum aerobic capacity from the maximum power measured in either hand-crank or bicycle ergometer could be found through regression analysis. Conclusions: Although there are problems in interpreting results of different ergometries due to severe physiology differences, the equations can be used for patients who are temporally unable to complete the established ergometry due to a deficit in the lower extremity. While the linear Pearson correlation coefficient represents a well-established normalized measure to quantify the inter-relation of two stochastic variables X and Y, it fails for multidimensional variables, such as Cartesian coordinates. Avoiding any assumption about the underlying data, the mutual information I(X, Y) does account for multidimensional correlations. However, unlike the normalized Pearson correlation, it has no upper bound (I ∈ [0, ∞)), i.e., it is not clear if say, I = 0.4 corresponds to a low or a high correlation. Moreover, the mutual information (MI) involves the estimation of high-dimensional probability densities (e.g., six-dimensional for Cartesian coordinates), which requires a k nearest-neighbor algorithm, such as the estimator by Kraskov et al. [Phys. Rev. E 69, 066138 (2004)]. As existing methods to normalize the MI cannot be used in connection with this estimator, a new approach is presented, which uses an entropy estimation method that is invariant under variable transformations. The algorithm is numerically efficient and does not require more effort than the calculation of the (un-normalized) MI. After validating the method by applying it to various toy models, the normalized MI between the Cα-coordinates of T4 lysozyme is considered and compared to a correlation analysis of inter-residue contacts. Context: Patellofemoral pain (PFP) is a prevalent chronic condition characterized by retropatellar or peripatellar pain exacerbated by various knee flexion-based activities. Previous research has highlighted the impact of psychological constructs on pain and function in chronic musculoskeletal pain conditions, yet their influence on physical activity in PFP cohorts remains unexplored. We aimed to evaluate whether pain self-efficacy and pain catastrophizing predict variations in steps per day and moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA) among individuals with PFP. Design: Cross-sectional observational study. Methods: Thirty-nine participants (11 males) with PFP were included. Dependent variables were steps per day and minutes of MVPA. Independent variables were pain self-efficacy and pain catastrophizing, measured by the pain self-efficacy questionnaire and the pain catastrophizing scale. Participants were given an ActiGraph wGT3X-BT for 7 days to assess physical activity. Correlations were assessed between psychological measures and physical activity, and a simple linear regression was performed on psychological variables that correlated with physical activity. Alpha was set a priori at P <.05. Results: Pain self-efficacy scores displayed a moderate association with steps per day (rho =.45, P =.004) and a weak association with MVPA (rho =.38, P =.014). Pain catastrophizing scores exhibited no significant associations with physical activity (P <.05). Regression models affirmed pain self-efficacy scores as significant predictors of both steps per day (F1,37 = 10.30, P =.002) and MVPA (F1,37 = 8.98, P =.004). Conclusions: Psychological measures continue to demonstrate value to clinicians treating PFP. Pain self-efficacy scores were moderately associated with steps per day and weakly associated with MVPA, explaining nearly a fifth of the variation in physical activity. Clinicians should prioritize the assessment of pain self-efficacy when treating individuals with PFP, potentially employing psychological interventions to improve physical activity in the PFP population. Context: Poor knee biomechanics contribute to knee joint injuries. Neuromuscular control over knee position is partially derived from the hip. It is unknown whether isolated activation training of the gluteal muscles improves lower-extremity frontal plane mechanics. This study examined if a home-based hip muscle activation program improves performance on the Forward Step-Down Test as well as increases surface electromyography (sEMG) activation of the gluteal muscles. Design: The study utilized a single-group repeated-measures design. Methods: Thirty-five participants (24 females, mean age = 23.17 [SD 1.36] years) completed an 8-week hip muscle activation program. The Forward Step-Down Test score and sEMG of gluteus maximus and medius were assessed preintervention and postintervention. Results: Forward Step-Down Test scores improved significantly from preintervention (Mdn = 3.5) to postintervention (Mdn = 3.0, T = 109, P =.010, r =.31.), but this result did not meet clinical significance. sEMG analysis revealed a significant increase in mean gluteus maximus activation (P =.028, d = 1.19). No significant dose–response relationship existed between compliance and the Forward Step-Down Test scores or sEMG results. Conclusions: A home-based hip activation program increases gluteus maximus activation without clinically significant changes in frontal plane movement quality. Purpose: To investigate how cycling time-trial (TT) performance changes over a cycling season, both in a "fresh" state and in a "fatigued" state (durability). Additionally, the aim was to explore whether these changes are related to changes in underlying physiological factors such as gross efficiency, energy expenditure (EE), and substrate oxidation (fat oxidation [FatOx] and carbohydrate oxidation [CarbOx]). Methods: Sixteen male semiprofessional cyclists visited the laboratory on 3 occasions during a cycling season (PRE, START, and IN) and underwent a performance test in both fresh and fatigued states (after 38.1 [4.9] kJ/kg), containing a submaximal warm-up for the measurement of gross efficiency, EE, FatOx, and CarbOx and a maximal TT of 1 (TT1min) and 10 minutes (TT10min). Results were compared across states (fresh vs fatigued) and periods (PRE, START, and IN). Results: The average power output (PO) in TT1min decreased (P <.05) from fresh to fatigued state across all observed periods, whereas there was no change in the PO in TT10min. Over the course of the season, the PO in TT1min in the fatigued state improved more compared with the PO in TT1min in the fresh state. Furthermore, while EE did not significantly change, there was an increase in FatOx and a decrease in CarbOx toward the fatigued state. These changes diminished during the cycling season (IN), indicating a greater contribution of CarbOx in the fatigued state. Conclusions: TT1min performance is more sensitive to fatigue compared with TT10min. Purpose: In this study, we compared the influence of movement specificity during velocity–load jump testing to predict on-ice acceleration performance in elite speed skaters. Methods: Elite long-track speed skaters (N = 27) performed velocity–load testing with 3 external loads during unilateral horizontal jumping, lateral jumping, and bilateral vertical countermovement jumping. For the unilateral tests, external load conditions were set to 10 N, 7.5% and 15% of external load relative to body weight. For the countermovement jumping, load conditions were body weight and 30% and 60% of external load relative to body weight. On-ice performance measures were obtained during maximal 50-m accelerations from a standing start, including maximal skating speed, maximal acceleration capacity, and maximum horizontal power. The 100-m split time from a 500-m race was also obtained. Regularized regression models were used to identify the most important predictors of on-ice acceleration performance. In addition to regularized regression coefficients, Pearson correlation coefficients (r) were calculated for all variables retained by the model to assess interrelationships between single predictors and on-ice performance measures. Results: The countermovement jump with 30% of body mass demonstrated the strongest association with maximal skating speed, maximum horizontal power, and 100-m time (regularized regression coefficient =.16−.49, r =.84−.97, P <.001). Horizontal jump with 15% of body mass was the strongest predictor of maximal acceleration capacity performance (regularized regression coefficient =.08, r =.83, P <.001). Context: Sport-specific adaptations in shoulder rotation range of motion (ROM) and the relationship with humeral torsion have been described in overhead-throwing sports. However, information is lacking for other shoulder-loading sports such as field hockey. Therefore, this study's purpose was to evaluate humeral torsion in elite, male field hockey players and explore its association with shoulder ROM. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: Twenty-five male, elite field hockey players were included. Humeral torsion and shoulder external and internal rotation ROM were evaluated bilaterally by ultrasound and an inclinometer smartphone application, respectively. Results: Field hockey players showed a significantly increased humeral retroversion on the dominant compared with the nondominant side (P <.001; Cohen d = 1.75), along with a significantly increased external (P =.004; Cohen d = −0.64) and decreased internal rotation ROM (P =.003; Cohen d = 0.65). This finding illustrates a shift in total shoulder rotational ROM arc. Correlation analysis showed a significant moderate association between the increased humeral retroversion and decreased internal rotation ROM on the dominant side (r =.523). Conclusions: Elite male field hockey athletes show sport-specific adaptations regarding humeral torsion and shoulder rotation ROM, similar to throwing athletes. These findings increase our insight into the field hockey athlete's shoulder, which is essential to optimize performance and assist in correctly interpreting shoulder rotational ROM measurements. Context: The persistence and the recurrence of posterior medial knee pain (PKP) after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) using hamstring tendon graft are often overlooked during rehabilitation. Design: Cross-sectional observational study. Methods: The study aimed (1) to evaluate the prevalence of these types of PKP before 4 months post-ACLR, (2) to measure their consequences on the knee flexors strength, and (3) to evaluate the role of the type of ACLR. From a cohort of patients operated on with hamstring tendon procedures, the persistent and the recurrent PKP were sought at 4 months post-ACLR. The evolution of isokinetic muscle strength recovery in PKP subjects was compared with those of nonpainful subjects. The functional deficit was measured at 6/7 months post-ACLR by a hop test. Results: Three hundred seventeen subjects (25.8 [6.0] y) were included. At 4 months post-ACLR, 2 populations were identified based on the recurrent onset of PKP (PKP+, n = 40) or the absence of knee pain (PKP−, n = 277). The prevalence of PKP was 8.3%. At the fourth month post-ACLR, the PKP+ group had a higher flexor strength deficit compared with the PKP− group (limb symmetry index at 60°/s: 67.2% [12.4%] vs 84.3% [12.6%]; P <.05). At 6/7 months, the loss of strength persisted (limb symmetry index at 60°/s: 82.3% [13.4%] vs 87.7% [12.8%]; P <.05). The hop test deficit was comparable, and no difference was shown according to the type of graft. Match-related performance analysis in judo Para athletes with visual impairments is important to coaches and staff to identify technical–tactical profiles of their athletes and opponents but also to identify whether there are similar characteristics in each visual class. Thus, this study explores the match-related performance in judo Para athletes and verifies the relationship between performance using the old and new classification systems. The match-derived variables were analyzed using different statistical methods considering a total of 182 matches from the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. The results indicated that performance was affected by sex and degree of impairment. The new classification system seems suitable for grouping Para judo athletes, as it differentiates performance between the two proposed classes (J1 and J2), since athletes from each group compete separately. Furthermore, different variability index measures were correlated with competitive performance, demonstrating a specific performance profile for each sport class in judo. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Electronic devices get smaller and smaller in every generation. In micro-/nano-electronic devices such as high electron mobility transistors, heat dissipation has become a crucial design consideration due to the ultrahigh heat flux that has a negative effect on devices' performance and their lifetime. Therefore, thermal transport performance enhancement is required to adapt to the device size reduction. β-Ga2O3 has recently gained significant scientific interest for future power devices because of its inherent material properties such as extremely wide bandgap, outstanding Baliga's figure of merit, large critical electric field, etc. This work aims to use a machine learning approach to search promising substrates or heat sinks for cooling β-Ga2O3, in terms of high interfacial thermal conductance (ITC), from large-scale potential structures taken from existing material databases. With the ITC dataset of 1633 various substrates for β-Ga2O3 calculated by full density functional theory, we trained our recently developed convolutional neural network (CNN) model that utilizes the fused orbital field matrix (OFM) and composition descriptors. Our model proved to be superior in performance to traditional machine learning algorithms such as random forest and gradient boosting. We then deployed the CNN model to predict the ITC of 32 716 structures in contact with β-Ga2O3. The CNN model predicted the top 20 cubic and noncubic substrates with ITC on the same level as density functional theory (DFT) results on β-Ga2O3/YN and β-Ga2O3/MgO interfaces, which has the highest ITC of 1224 and 1211 MW/m2K, respectively, among the DFT-ITC datasets. Phonon density of states, group velocity, and scattering effect on high heat flux transport and consequently increased ITC are also investigated. Moderate to high phonon density of states overlap, high group velocity, and low phonon scattering are required to achieve high ITC. We also found three Magpie descriptors with strong Pearson correlation with ITC, namely, mean atomic number, mean atomic weight, and mean ground state volume per atom. Calculations of such descriptors are computationally efficient, and therefore, these descriptors provide a new route for quickly screening potential substrates from large-scale material pools for high-performance interfacial thermal management of high-electron mobility transistor devices. Context: The hamstrings are the most commonly injured muscle in sports and are especially injury prone in lengthened positions. Measuring knee muscle strength in such positions could be relevant to establish injury risk. Handheld dynamometry has been shown to be a valid, reliable, and practical tool to measure isometric muscle strength clinically. The aim of this study was to assess the validity and reliability of the assessment of isometric knee muscle strength with a handheld dynamometer (HHD) at various muscle lengths, by modifying the hip and knee angles during testing. Design: Concurrent validity and test--retest reliability. Methods: Thirty young healthy participants were recruited. Hamstring and quadriceps isometric strength was measured with a HHD and with an isokinetic dynamometer, over 2 testing sessions, in a randomized order. Isometric strength was measured on the right lower limb in 6 different positions, with the hip at either 0° or 80° of flexion and the knee at either 30°, 60°, or 90° of flexion. Pearson and Spearman correlations were used to assess the validity, and intraclass correlation coefficients were calculated to establish the test--retest reliability of the HHD. Results: Good to excellent reliability and moderate to high validity were found in all the tested muscle length positions, except for the hamstrings in a seated position with the knee extended at 30°. Conclusions: The use of a HHD is supported in the clinical setting to measure knee muscle strength at varying muscle lengths in healthy adults, but not for the hamstrings in a lengthened position (hip flexed and knee extended). Context: Injury-related fear and quadriceps strength are independently associated with secondary anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury risk. It is not known whether injury-related fear and quadriceps strength are associated, despite their individual predictive capabilities of secondary ACL injury. The purpose of this study was to examine the association between injury-related fear and quadriceps strength in individuals at least 1 year after ACL reconstruction (ACLR). Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: Forty participants between the ages of 18 and 35 years at least 1 year post unilateral primary ACLR. Participants completed the Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia-11 (TSK-11) and a standard isokinetic quadriceps strength assessment using the Biodex Isokinetic Dynamometer. Pearson Product-Moment correlations were used to examine the linear association between the TSK-11 scores and peak torque (in nanometers per kilogram) for each limb and between the TSK-11 scores and limb symmetry indices for each limb. Pearson Product-Moment correlation coefficients (r) were interpreted as very high (.90--1.00), high (.70--.90), moderate (.50--.70), low (.30--.50), and no correlation (.00--.30). Results: The average TSK-11 score was 18.2 (5.3), average ACLR peak quadriceps torque was 1.9 (0.50) N·m/kg, average contralateral peak quadriceps torque was 2.3 (0.48) N·m/kg, and average limb symmetry index was 85.3% (12.6%). There was no statistically significant correlation between the TSK-11 and peak quadriceps torque on the ACLR limb (r = .12, P = .46), the TSK-11 and contralateral limb (r = .29, P = .07), or the TSK-11 and limb symmetry index (r = -.18, P = .27). Conclusions: There was no association between kinesiophobia and peak isokinetic quadriceps strength in individuals at least 1 year post-ACLR. To operationalize the extent to which firms place a strategic emphasis on human capital and human resource management (HRM), we draw on the strategy field's dominant logic theory and on the emerging literature on executive compensation for the heads of major firm functions, such as HRM. Specifically, we investigate whether the pay of human resource executives (HREs) relative to other members of top management teams (TMTs) is related to firm performance. After controlling for the endogeneity of HRE status as one of the highest paid executives on the TMT, we find in a comprehensive sample of the largest US firms that HRE relative pay is positively related to firm financial performance, specifically Tobin's Q. We also find that the relationship of HRE relative pay with Tobin's Q is stronger in relatively smaller and younger firms in our sample. Solar interfacial evaporation, as a novel practical freshwater production method, requires continuous research on how to improve the evaporation rates to increase water production. In this study, sets of data were obtained from molecule dynamics simulation and literature, in which the parameters included height, diameter, height–radius ratio, evaporation efficiency, and evaporation rate. Initially, the correlation between the four input parameters and the output of the evaporation rate was examined through traditional pairwise plots and Pearson correlation analysis, revealing weak correlations. Subsequently, the accuracy and generalization performance of the evaporation rate prediction models established by neural network and random forest were compared, with the latter demonstrating superior performance and reliability confirmed via random data extraction. Furthermore, the impact of different percentages (10%, 20%, and 30%) of the data on the model performance was explored, and the result indicated that the model performance is better when the test set is 20% and all the constructed model converge. Moreover, the mean absolute error and mean squared error of the evaporation rate prediction model for the three ratios were calculated to evaluate their performance. However, the relationship between the height- radius ratio and optimal evaporation rate was investigated using the enumeration method, and it was determined that the evaporation efficiency was optimal when the height–radius ratio was 6. Finally, the importance of height, diameter, height– radius ratio, and evaporation efficiency were calculated to optimize evaporator structure, increase evaporation rate, and facilitate the application of interfacial evaporation in solar desalination. Entropy scaling is applied to the shear viscosity, self-diffusion coefficient, and thermal conductivity of simple monatomic fluids. An extensive molecular dynamics simulation series is performed to obtain these transport properties and the residual entropy of three potential model classes with variable repulsive exponents: n, 6 Mie (n = 9, 12, 15, and 18), Buckingham's exponential-six (α = 12, 14, 18, and 30), and Tang–Toennies (αT = 4.051, 4.275, and 4.600). A wide range of liquid and supercritical gas- and liquid-like states is covered with a total of 1120 state points. Comparisons to equations of state, literature data, and transport property correlations are made. Although the absolute transport property values within a given potential model class may strongly depend on the repulsive exponent, it is found that the repulsive steepness plays a negligible role when entropy scaling is applied. Hence, the plus-scaled transport properties of n, 6 Mie, exponential-six, and Tang–Toennies fluids lie basically on one master curve, which closely corresponds with entropy scaling correlations for the Lennard-Jones fluid. This trend is confirmed by literature data of n, 6 Mie, and exponential-six fluids. Furthermore, entropy scaling holds for state points where the Pearson correlation coefficient R is well below 0.9. The condition R > 0.9 for strongly correlating liquids is thus not necessary for the successful application of entropy scaling, pointing out that isomorph theory may be a part of a more general framework that is behind the success of entropy scaling. ReaxFF reactive force field bridges the gap between nonreactive molecular simulations and quantum mechanical calculations and has been widely applied during the past two decades. However, its application to earth materials, especially those under high T-P conditions relevant to Earth's interior, is still limited due to the lack of available parameters. Here, we present the development and validation of a ReaxFF force field containing several of the most common elements in Earth's crust, i.e., Si/Al/O/H/Na/K. The force field was trained against a large data set obtained from density functional theory (DFT) calculations, including charges, bond/angle distortion curves, equation of states, ion migration energy profiles, and condensation reaction energies. Different coordination environments were considered in the training set. The fitting results showed that the current force field can well reproduce the DFT data (the Pearson correlation coefficient, Rp, is 0.95). We validated the force field on mineral–water interfaces, hydrous melts/supercritical geofluids, and bulk crystals. It was found that the current force field performed excellently in predicting the structural, thermodynamic, and transport properties of various systems (Rp = 0.95). Moreover, possible applications and future development have been discussed. The results obtained in this study suggest that the current force field holds good promise to model a wide range of processes and thus open opportunities to advance the application of ReaxFF in earth material modeling. Objectives: Fractal analysis is a numerical method that indicates the structural patterns and complexity of the trabecular bone on radiographs. The aim of this cross-sectional study was to evaluate the trabecular bone structure in systemically healthy patients and diabetes mellitus patients with periodontitis using fractal analysis. Method and materials: The study included 125 mandibular first molars of nonsmoker patients. The subjects were divided into five subgroups: diabetes mellitus patients with mild-moderate periodontitis, diabetes mellitus patients with advanced periodontitis, systemically healthy individuals with mild-moderate periodontitis, systemically healthy individuals with advanced periodontitis, and systemically healthy individuals with gingivitis (control group). Clinical periodontal parameters (pocket depth, bleeding on probing, clinical attachment loss, and bone loss) were recorded. Two specific sites located in the mesial-distal regions (n = 250) of the mandibular first molars were identified using periapical radiographs captured with a parallel technique. Fractal analysis values were calculated using the box-counting method. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), and Pearson correlation analysis were used forstatistical evaluation. Results: The highest fractal analysis values were observed in systemically healthy with gingivitis patients (mesial fractal analysis: 1.86 ± 0.01; distal fractal analysis: 1.85 ±0.01). Patients with periodontitis (mesial fractal analysis: 1.78 ±0.02; distal fractal analysis: 1.79 ± 0.01) exhibited lower fractal analysis values compared to the control group. There was no significant difference in mesial and distal fractal analysis values between all periodontitis groups. No correlation was found between age, sex, clinical attachment loss, bone loss, and fractal analysis (P>.05). Conclusions: Although fractal analysis values were lower in the periodontitis groups compared to the control group, fractal analysis did not demonstrate any periodontitis-associated changes of bone tra-beculationin diabetes at any stage of periodontitis. The purpose of this study was to investigate the attitudes and self-efficacy of swimming coaches regarding the inclusion of swimmers with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The sample consisted of 150 Greek swimming coaches with an average age of 29.58 years. Each participant completed the Swimming Coaches Attitudes towards Inclusion Questionnaire for perceptions assessment and the Biddle and Goudas (1997) self-efficacy questionnaire. The statistical analysis used SPSS 27 to calculate Cronbach's alpha, Pearson product-moment correlations, independent t-tests, and ANOVA. The findings of the study showed that the swimming coaches expressed positive attitudes and a high percentage of perceived self-efficacy towards the inclusion of athletes with ASD in the general swimming team. Attitudes were not associated with self-efficacy. Training in adapted physical education and the geographical distribution seemed to influence attitudes whereas gender and coaching experience influenced self-efficacy. Purpose: To compare the performance of licensed dentists and two software versions (3.5 legacy and 4.0) of an artificial intelligence (AI)-based chatbot (ChatGPT) answering the exam for the 2022 Certification in Implant Dentistry of the European Association for Osseointegration (EAO). Materials and Methods: The 50-question, multiple-choice exam of the EAO for the 2022 Certification in Implant Dentistry was obtained. Three groups were created based on the individual or program answering the exam: licensed dentists (D group) and two software versions of an artificial intelligence (AI)-based chatbot (ChatGPT)--3.5 legacy (ChatGPT-3.5 group) and the 4.0 version (ChatGPT-4.0 group). The EAO provided the results of the 2022 examinees (D group). For the ChatGPT groups, the 50 multiple-choice questions were introduced into both ChatGBT versions, and the answers were recorded. Pearson correlation matrix was used to analyze the linear relationship among the subgroups. The inter- and intraoperator reliability was calculated using Cronbach's alpha coefficient. One-way ANOVA and Tukey post-hoc tests were used to examine the data (α = .05). Results: ChatGPT was able to pass the exam for the 2022 Certification in Implant Dentistry of the EAO. Additionally, the software version of ChatGPT impacted the score obtained. The 4.0 version not only pass the exam but also obtained a significantly higher score than the 3.5 version and licensed dentists completing the same exam. Objectives: To compare marginal gap width and depth with different cementation systems, excess removal, and after polishing. Method and materials: In total, 80 composite crowns were milled, divided into ten groups, and cemented on identical artificial teeth. Eight crowns per group were fixed with (i) zinc phosphate cement (ZnOPh), (ii) glass-ionomer cement (GIC), (iii) resin-reinforced glass-ionomer cement (GIC mod), (iv) dual-curing adhesive composite (Comp dual), or (v) dual-curing self-adhesive composite (Comp SE dual). Excess removal was performed with a scaler after brief light-cure (tack-cure), final light-cure, during rubber or gel phase or by wiping with foam pellet. Curing was completed in chemical, dark cure, or light-curing modus. The specimens were polished and stored in water (37°C). The margins were digitized using a 3D laser-scanning microscope (VK-X100 series, Keyence). The width and the depth of the marginal gap were measured at 10 points between the crown margin and the preparation margin. Results: The width after excess removal varied between 65.1 ± 15.7 µm (Comp dual, wipe, with polishing) and 208.6 ± 266.7 µm (Comp SE dual, dark cure, without polishing). The depth varied between 29.8 ± 22.2 µm (Comp dual, wipe, with polishing) and 89.5 ± 45.2 µm (Comp SE dual, dark cure, without polishing). The impact on gap width and depth was detected for fixation material, excess removal, and polishing. Conclusion: The gap depth and width depend on the luting material and the mode of access removal. Purpose: To investigate the validity of the Physical Activity Questionnaire for Older Children (PAQ-C) to assess the moderate- to vigorous-intensity physical activity (MVPA) level of children and adolescents diagnosed with HIV and propose cut-points, with accelerometer measures as the reference method. Method: Children and adolescents, aged 8–14 years (mean age = 12.21 y, SD = 2.09), diagnosed with HIV by vertical transmission, participated in the study. MVPA was investigated through the PAQ-C and triaxial accelerometer (ActiGraph GT3X+). Receiver operating characteristic curve and sensitivity and specificity values were used to identify a cut-point for PAQ-C to distinguish participants meeting MVPA guidelines. Results: Fifty-six children and adolescents participated in the study. Among those, 16 met MVPA guidelines. The PAQ-C score was significantly related to accelerometry-derived MVPA (ρ =.506, P <.001). The PAQ-C score cut-point of 2.151 (sensitivity = 0.625, specificity = 0.875) was able to discriminate between those who met MVPA guidelines and those that did not (area under the curve = 0.751, 95% confidence interval, 0.616–0.886). Context: Nordic hamstring strength (NH strength) and single leg bridge test (SLBT) scores are used to predict the risk of hamstring strain injury. Although NH strength and SLBT scores may be related, the relationship between NH strength and SLBT score remains unknown. Objectives: This study investigated the relationship between NH strength and SLBT scores in university soccer players. Design: Cross-sectional study. Setting: Research laboratory. Participants: 38 male university soccer players. Main Outcome Measures: NH strength and SLBT scores. Interventions: A participant was instructed to lean forward gradually at the slowest possible speed from a kneeling posture with the knee joint flexed 90° for the NH strength measurement. Participants in the SLBT crossed their arms over their chests, pushed down from their heels, and lifted their hips off the ground as many times as they could until they failed. We investigated the relationship between NH strength and SLBT scores in the left and right sides using Spearman rank correlation coefficient. Additionally, we calculated the percentage of left–right asymmetry in NH strength and SLBT scores and investigated the relationship between these variables using Pearson correlation coefficient. Results: There were no significant correlations between NH strength and SLBT scores in the right (rs =.239, P =.16) and left (rs =.311, P =.065) legs. Furthermore, there was no significant relationship between NH strength and SLBT between-limb asymmetry (r =.073, P =.671). Conclusions: NH strength and SLBT scores could be different indexes, indicating either maximal muscle strength or muscle endurance. Context: Single- and dual-task walking gait assessments have been used to identify persistent movement and cognitive dysfunction among athletes with concussions. However, it is unclear whether previous ankle sprain injuries confound these outcomes during baseline testing. The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of (1) ankle sprain history and (2) time since prior ankle sprain injury on single- and dual-task spatiotemporal gait outcomes and cognitive measures. Design: Cross- sectional study. Methods: We assessed 60 college Division-I athletes (31 with ankle sprain history; 13 females and 18 males, 19.3 [0.8] y; 29 with no ankle sprain history, 14 females and 15 males, 19.7 [0.9] y) who completed injury history forms and underwent concussion baseline testing. Athletes completed single- and dual-task gait assessments by walking back and forth along an 8-m walkway for 40 seconds. Athletes wore a smartphone with an associated mobile application on their lumbar spine to record spatiotemporal gait parameters and dual-task cognitive performance. Separate multivariate analyses of variance were used to assess the effects of ankle sprain injury history on spatiotemporal measures, gait variability, and cognitive performance. We performed a multivariate regression subanalysis on athletes who reported time since injury (n = 23) to assess temporal effects on gait and cognitive performance. Results: Athletes with and without a histoiy of ankle sprains had comparable spatiotemporal and gait variability outcomes during single- (P = .42; P = .13) and dual-task (P = .75; P = .55) conditions. Additionally, ankle sprain injury history did not significantly influence cognitive performance (P = .35). Finally, time since ankle sprain did not significantly affect single- (P = .75) and dual-task gait (P = .69), nor cognitive performance (P = 19). Conclusions: Ankle sprain injury history did not significantly alter spatiotemporal gait outcomes nor cognitive performance during this common clinical assessment. Purpose: To evaluate the effect of bulb thickness on the weight of obturator prostheses and masticatory performance in edentulous hemimaxillectomy patients.Materials and Methods: A randomized, single-blind, three-period crossover trial was conducted with 17 edentulous patients. All patients were provided with three definitive 3D-printed obturator prostheses each. Obturators were divided into three groups: (1) group 1 (G1; 1-mm bulb); (2) group 2 (G2; 2-mm bulb); and (3) group 3 (G3; 3-mm bulb). After fabrication, the weight of each obturator was measured using a digital analytical balance. The patients used each obturator for a period of 2 weeks without a passive period (ie, they did not stop using the obturator). After using each obturator, masticatory function was evaluated with an adapted Sato questionnaire and the sieve test. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and Pearson correlation analysis (α = .05).Results: According to the results of the Sato questionnaire and sieve test, G1 demonstrated the highest masticatory function scores (70.88 ± 9.39; 1.06 ± 0.06), while G3 exhibited the lowest scores (48.23 ± 7.69; 0.92 ± 0.05) (P < .001). The weight of the obturators was significantly different between groups (G1 = 31.58 ± 1.09 g; G2 = 33.99 ± 1.21 g; G3 = 36.57 ± 1.13 g) (P < .001). The correlation between masticatory function and the weight of the obturator was significant (P < .05).Conclusion: This study revealed that using 1-mm obturator bulb thickness was an effective fabrication method for improving masticatory function and reducing the weight of obturator prostheses in edentulous hemimaxillectomy patients. Purpose: To assess the effects of a sleep hygiene strategy on parameters of sleep quality and quantity in youth elite rugby union players. Method: Eleven male players (age: 19.0 [1.4] y) undertook a sleep hygiene strategy composed of 2 theoretical sessions and 3 practical sessions over a 4-week period. Sleeping time, time in bed, total sleep time, sleep latency (SL), sleep efficiency (SE), wake after sleep onset, and wake bouts were recorded with an actigraphic device during the 4-week sleep hygiene strategy (baseline) and during 4 weeks after the last intervention (postintervention). Results: At baseline, the overall group reported poor sleep quantity (total sleep time = 6:27 [0:30] min), but sleep quality was considered acceptable (SL = 0:18 [0:08] min and SE = 77.8% [5.8%]). Postintervention, the overall group showed a small improvement in SL (d = −0.23 [−0.42 to −0.04], P =.003) and SE (d = 0.30 [0.03 to 0.57], P =.0004). For individual responses, sleeping time, time in bed, and total sleep time were positively influenced in only 4, 3, and 5 players, respectively. For parameters of sleep quality, SL and SE were positively influenced in a majority of players (n = 7 and 8, respectively). The magnitude of difference between baseline and postintervention was strongly associated with baseline values in SE (r = −.86; P =.0005) and wake after sleep onset (r = −.87; P =.0007). Conclusion: A sleep hygiene strategy is efficient to improve sleep quality but not sleep quantity in young rugby union players. Context: Different resistance exercise determinants modulate the musculotendinous adaptations following eccentric hamstring training. The Nordic Hamstring Exercise (NHE) can be performed 2-fold: the movement velocity irreversibly increases toward the end of the range of motion or it is kept constant. Design: This cross-sectional study aimed to investigate if the downward acceleration angle (DWAangle) can be used as a classification parameter to distinguish between increasing and constant velocity NHE execution. Furthermore, the kinetic and kinematic differences of these 2 NHE execution conditions were examined by analyzing the DWAangle in relation to the angle of peak moment. Methods: A total of 613 unassisted NHE repetitions of 12 trained male sprinters (22 y, 181 cm, 76 kg) were analyzed. Results: The majority of analyzed parameters demonstrated large effects. NHEs with constant velocity (n = 285) revealed significantly higher impulses (P <.001; d = 2.34; + 61%) and fractional time under tension (P <.001; d = 1.29; +143%). Although the generated peak moments were significantly higher for constant velocity (P =.003; d = 0.29; +4%), they emerged at similar knee flexion angles (P =.167; d = 0.28) and revealed on average just low relationships to the DWAangle ( R mean 2 = 22.4 %). DWAangle highly correlated with the impulse ( R mean 2 = 60.8 %) and δ (DWAangle–angle of peak moment; R mean 2 = 83.6 %). Conclusions: Relating DWAangle to angle of peak moment assists to distinguish between significantly different NHE execution, which will potentially elicit different musculotendinous adaptations. Purpose: This study aimed to determine relationships between parameters of force-production capacity in sprinting and opposition skill efficiency in rugby union games according to position. Methods: The sprint force–velocity profile of 33 professional rugby union players divided into 2 subgroups (forwards and backs) was measured on a 30-m sprint. Skill efficiencies (in percentage) of offensive duels, tackles, and rucks were assessed using objective criteria during 12 consecutive competitive games. Pearson correlation was used to determine the relationships between parameters of horizontal force-production capacity in sprinting (maximum propulsive power, theoretical maximum force [F0], theoretical maximum velocity, maximum ratio of horizontal force [RFmax], and rate of decrease of this ratio of forces with increasing velocity) and skill efficiencies. Two multiple linear regression models were used to observe whether skill efficiencies could depend on determinants of horizontal force application in low- or high-velocity conditions. A first model including F0 and theoretical maximum velocity was used as a macroscopic analysis, while a second model including RFmax and rate of decrease of this ratio of forces with increasing velocity was used as microscopic analysis to determine the most significant determinants of skill efficiency. Results: All skill efficiencies were strongly correlated with maximum propulsive power in forwards and backs. In forwards, F0 and RFmax were the key predictors of dueling, rucking, and tackling efficiency. In backs, F0 was the main predictor of dueling and rucking efficiency, whereas RFmax was the key predictor of dueling and tackling efficiency. F0 and theoretical maximum velocity equivalently contributed to tackling performance. Conclusions: In rugby union forward and back players, skill efficiency is correlated with maximum propulsive power and may be more explained by horizontal force-production capacity and mechanical effectiveness at lower velocities than at higher velocities. Purpose: To investigate the relationships between a series of direct and indirect measures of linear and multidirectional speed performance in elite female rugby sevens players. Methods: Nineteen players from the Brazilian national team performed 40-m linear sprint and 505 change-of-direction (COD) tests on the same day. Based on the linear sprint and COD test performances, the COD deficit (CODD) and deceleration deficit (DD) were also obtained. A Pearson product–moment correlation analysis was used to determine the relationships between linear sprint and COD-derived variables. Results: Linear sprint and 505 COD velocities were not significantly associated (P >.05). Large to very large significant associations (r values ranging from.54 to.78; P <.05) were detected between linear sprint velocity for the different distances tested (10, 15, 30, and 40 m) and CODD. The COD velocity presented a very large inverse significant correlation with CODD and DD (r = −.77 and −.79 respectively; P <.05). A large and significant correlation was identified between CODD and DD (r =.79; P <.05). Conclusions: Significant associations were observed between linear sprint and CODD, suggesting that faster players are less efficient at changing direction. No relationship was found between sprint velocity and DD, highlighting the independent nature of linear sprints and deceleration capabilities. A comprehensive and detailed analysis of multidirectional speed performance should consider not only linear sprint and COD performances but also complementary COD-derived variables such as the CODD and DD. Purpose: This study sought to quantify the within-individual relationships between spatiotemporal variables and initial acceleration sprint performance in elite rugby backs and to establish a normative data set of relevant strength-based measures. Methods: First, the spatiotemporal variables, ratios of step length to step rate and of contact time to flight time, and initial acceleration performance were obtained from 35 elite male rugby backs (mean [SD] age 25 [3] y) over the first 4 steps of 3 sprints. Angular and linear kinematic aspects of technique and strength-based qualities were collected from 25 of these participants. Second, the same spatiotemporal variables were collected from 19 of the participants on 3 further occasions (12 trials in total) to determine the within-individual associations of these variables and initial acceleration performance. Results: Moderate to very large meaningful within-individual relationships (|r| =.43–.88) were found between spatiotemporal variables and initial acceleration performance in 17 of the 19 participants. From these relationships, a theoretically "desirable" change in whole-body kinematic strategy was individually determined for each participant, and normative strength-based measures to contextualize these were established. Conclusions: Meaningful within-individual relationships are evident between sprint spatiotemporal variables and initial acceleration performance in elite rugby backs. Individualized approaches are therefore necessary to understand how aspects of technique relate to initial acceleration performance. Context: Isometric core stability exercises are commonly used to target muscles of the lumbopelvic–hip complex, including the rectus abdominis (RA) and erector spinae (ES). These exercises can be implemented in rehabilitation protocols to increase muscle strength and endurance. Difficulty can be progressed by modifying the base of support or adding an unstable element. Load cells can be affixed to suspension training devices to measure force exerted through the straps during exercise. The primary purpose of this study was to assess the relationship between activity of the RA and ES to force measured through a load cell fixed to suspension straps during bilateral and unilateral suspended bridge exercises. Design: Forty asymptomatic, active individuals completed a single laboratory visit. Methods: Participants completed 2 bilateral suspended bridges and 2 unilateral suspended bridges held to failure. Surface electromyography sensors were placed over the bilateral RA and ES to quantify muscle activity (% maximum voluntary isometric contraction). A load cell was affixed to the suspension straps to measure force exerted through the straps throughout the duration of the exercise. Pearson correlations were used to determine relationships between force and muscle activity of the RA and ES throughout exercise duration. Results: Force was negatively related to RA muscle activity in bilateral suspended bridges (r = −.735 to −.842, P <.001) and unilateral suspended bridges (r = −.300 to −.707, P =.002 to <.001). Force had a positive relationship with ES muscle activity in bilateral suspended bridges (r =.689 to.791, P <.001) and unilateral suspended bridges (r =.418 to.448, P <.001). Conclusions: Suspended bridge exercises can be a valuable tool to target posterior abdominal musculature such as the ES to contribute to core stability and endurance. Context: Hip muscle strength and hop performance limb symmetries after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) are not well studied. This study aimed to determine the differences in hip abductors' (ABD) and external rotators' (ER) muscle strength measures between limbs, and the relationship between hip ABD and ER muscle strengths and hop performance limb symmetry indices (LSIs) 2 years after ACLR. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: Forty (level I/II) men athletes 2 years after unilateral ACLR completed 4 single-legged hop tests and involved hip ABD and ER strength testing (maximum voluntary isometric contraction [MVIC]; isokinetic peak torque [PKTQ] at 60°, 180°, and 300°/s; and isotonic peak velocity at 75% of their MVICs). Muscle strength measures were normalized to body mass, and hop performances were reported as LSIs. Paired t test was used to determine strength differences between limbs, and the Pearson correlation coefficient was used to assess the relationship between involved hip muscle strength measures and hop performance LSIs. Results: Hip ER-MVIC (involved: 60.26 [12.01], uninvolved: 63.68 [13.17] N·m/kg) and ER eccentric PKTQ at 60°/s (involved: 32.59 [9.28]; uninvolved: 35.73 [10.50] N·m/kg) were significantly different between limbs (P ≤.018). Single-hop LSI correlated with hip ER-PKTQ at 180°/s (r =.354) and 300°/s (r =.324, P ≤.041), while triple-hop LSI correlated with hip ER-MVIC (r =.320), concentric ER-PKTQ at 180°/s (r =.355), eccentric ER-PKTQ at 60°/s (r =.314), and hip ABD-PKTQ at 60°/s (r =.364) and 300°/s (r =.336, P ≤.049). Conclusions: Men athletes demonstrated symmetrical hop performance and hip muscle strengths, except for ER hip's MVIC and isokinetic eccentric peak torque at 60°/s 2 years after ACLR. Hop performance LSIs had a few, yet positive moderate relationships with involved hip ABDs and ER strength measures. This may indicate that hip ABD and ER muscle strength measures contribute to athletes' hop performances 2 years after ACLR. Are employees more likely to identify with their organization and engage in helping behaviors on its behalf if the coworkers who make up their social networks identify and help the organization? We draw on social information processing theory, social learning theory, and research on diffusion of innovation to develop a model that predicts how relational (advice ties) and structural (structural equivalence) factors predict organizational identification and organizational citizenship. We argue that OI is neither a matter of individual perceptions generated in isolation, nor a simple function of the number of ties that an employee has, but that it is instead an outcome of relations and interactions with coworkers, as reflected in the social structure of the employing organization. We tested our model by conducting a social network study of employees in a construction company. Our findings show that (1) employees tend to have similar levels of OI to the OI of their advice ties; (2) employees who are structurally equivalent tend to demonstrate similar levels of OCB; (3) similarity in OI mediates the relationship between advice ties and similarity in OCB; and (4) advice ties with high and moderate levels of OI are most strongly associated with similarity in OCB. In a supplementary analysis we show that the social influence model that we tested offers a better explanation for the role that the social context plays in shaping OI than does a "more ties, more OI" model. Purpose: To map anthropometric and physical performance profiles in Norwegian premier league female football players. Methods: During preseason, the physical qualities of 107 players were tested on Keiser leg press, countermovement jump, 40-meter sprint, and agility. Descriptive statistics were presented as mean (SD) and median [interquartile range]. Pearson correlations analyses were made for all performance tests, and results presented as R value with 95% CIs. Results: The female players were 22 (4) years of age, stature 169.0 (6.2) cm, body weight 65.3 (6.7) kg; force 2122 (312) N, power 1090 (140) W, sprint 40 m 5.75 (0.21) seconds, agility dominant 10.18 (0.32) seconds, nondominant 10.27 (0.31) seconds, and countermovement jump 32.6 (4.1) cm. Outfield players were faster and more agile than goalkeepers, a difference of 40 m, agility of dominant, and nondominant leg, respectively: 0.20 [0.09–0.32], 0.37 [0.21–0.54], and 0.28 [0.12–45]; P <.001. Goalkeepers and central defenders were taller and heavier compared with fullbacks, central midfielders, and wide midfielders (P ranging from <.02). A difference was found between dominant and nondominant legs for the agility test, showing that players are faster when changing direction with the dominant leg. Conclusions: Our study presents anthropometric and physical performance profiles of Norwegian premier league female football players. We found no difference for the physical qualities strength, power, sprint, agility, and countermovement jump between any outfield playing positions in female premier league players. Purpose: In short-track speed skating, athletes need to possess specific physiological capabilities to perform explosive starts and to finish races with faster lap times than their opponents. Repeated-sprint training in hypoxia (RSH) can enhance repeated-sprint ability and high-intensity performance. This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between on- and off-ice performance indicators for training and testing purposes and how these are optimized with RSH in world-class short-track speed skaters including world and Olympic champions. Methods: RSH training was administered for 3 consecutive weeks, 3 times per week, at 3500 m of simulated altitude. Testing sessions (on-ice: 3-lap, 27-lap; off-ice: cycling incremental test, 7-s and 30-s Wingate) were performed immediately before and 2 and 4 weeks after RSH to determine the time course of decay. Results: On-ice top speed showed a small and possibly beneficial change of ∼0.9% for the women and large and almost certain ∼0.7% improvement for the men 2 weeks post-RSH. Cycling peak power showed a moderate and probable ∼5.4% improvement for the men 2 weeks after RSH. These adaptations reverted to baseline 4 weeks post-RSH. Wingate average power showed a small and possibly beneficial gain (∼3.4%) in performance 4 weeks post-RSH. Conclusion: Although scientific controls could not be added due to the extremely high caliber of these athletes and low sample size of the national team, this study suggests that cycling RSH can be added immediately after on-ice training and can transfer into meaningful improvements on the ice in both male and female skaters. This study investigates the relationship between responsible leadership and triple bottom line (TBL) performance among food establishment owners and managers in Brgy. New Isabela, Tacurong City, with a focus on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and 13 (Climate Action). This study is among the first to explore the role of responsible leadership in TBL performance within the context of local food establishments. The study encompasses 57 respondents, representing a total enumeration of food establishment owners and managers in the area. Employing a quantitative research design with a descriptive-correlational approach, the study utilizes purposive sampling. Adapted and contextualized questionnaires were administered, and data analysis involved Mean, Pearson Moment Correlation, and Multiple Regression Analysis. Findings indicate responsible leadership among food establishment owners and managers in Brgy. New Isabela is characterized by a very high level, notably in stakeholder relations, ethics and values, self-awareness, systems thinking, and change and innovation. TBL performance levels as indicated by the societal, environmental, and economic performance are also assessed as very high. The study reveals a significant relationship between responsible leadership and TBL performance. This quantitative study determined the level of effectiveness of internal control and internal audit as well as its relationship to business performance and examined their influence on Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). It employed a quantitative-descriptive and cross-sectional research design. The respondents of the study were the accountants or the employees of 21 SMEs within the vicinity of General Santos City, Philippines. The respondents must be employed by the businesses that they work with and have performed at least one internal audit within the entity and must have knowledge in internal controls as well as internal audit. Random sampling and adapted-modified research survey questionnaires were used to identify the respondent's level of effectiveness of internal control and internal audit and their influence to the business performance of the SMEs. The data gathered were treated using mean, Pearson's Correlation Coefficient, and multiple regression. Moreover, the results of the study showed that the level of effectiveness of internal control and internal audit and the business performance of the SMEs were considered high with the overall mean of 4.19, 4.32, and 3.97, respectively. Hence, it is recommended to use this study as a basis to identify any potential issues to enhance and strengthen the level of effectiveness of internal control and internal audit and their influence on the SMEs' business performance. This study measured the level of self-confidence in English of 36 first-year English majors of Kabankalan Catholic College who were officially enrolled for the Academic Year 2022-2023. The participants' self-confidence in English was classified into five macro skills namely reading, writing, listening, speaking, and viewing skills. Their selfconfidence in the five skills was correlated to their performance in Purposive Communication course. Descriptivecorrelational design was used to determine the association between the two variables. An adopted and compiled standardized questionnaires from different sources were administered. Mean, standard deviation, t-test, and Pearson correlation coefficient were utilized for data analyses. The results revealed that males garnered higher mean results in the level of self confidence in English in terms of listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills while females excelled in viewing skills. This finding implies that males are more confident in English compared to females. In terms of school of origin when taken as a whole, viewing skills got the highest mean while writing skills got the lowest mean for both private and public schools which implies that viewing skill is dominant due to digitalization and wide impact of media. Significant differences also vary in the five macro skills. A significant relationship was found between the students' self-confidence in English in terms of reading skills and their performance in Purposive Communication. Thus, the study suggests that language programs may be implemented to help enhance the students' English skills so they can fully excel in their academics and in the use of English language. Administration mode of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) may influence responses. We assessed if Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale – Depression subscale (HADS-D) item responses and scores were associated with administration mode. We compared (1) self-administration versus interview-administration; within self-administration (2) research or medical setting versus private; and (3) pen-and-paper versus electronic; and within interview-administration (4) in-person versus phone. We analysed individual participant data meta-analysis datasets with item-level data for the PHQ-9 (N = 34,529), EPDS (N = 16,813), and HADS-D (N = 16,768). We used multiple indicator multiple cause models to assess differential item functioning (DIF) by administration mode. We found statistically significant DIF for most items on all measures due to large samples, but influence on total scores was negligible. In 10 comparisons conducted across the PHQ-9, EPDS, and HADS-D, Pearson's correlations and intraclass correlation coefficients between latent depression symptom scores from models that did or did not account for DIF were between 0.995 and 1.000. Total PHQ-9, EPDS, and HADS-D scores did not differ materially across administration modes. This study examines the relationship between extracurricular activities and academic performance among high school students at Maryknoll School of Sigaboy, Inc. Utilizing a quantitative descriptive-survey research design, the study employed random sampling to select 173 high school students out of 183 high school students from its population. Data were collected using a structured survey instrument designed to assess both the levels of extracurricular participation and academic achievement. The data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, and Pearson's r correlation coefficient. The results indicate that both extracurricular activities and academic performance are observed at high levels among the students, with a Pearson's r correlation of 0.01, suggesting a positive correlation between these two variables. These findings affirm that increased participation in extracurricular activities is significantly associated with higher academic performance. The study highlights the importance of extracurricular engagement in enhancing students' academic outcomes, suggesting potential benefits for educational policy and student development programs. This study aimed to determine the relationship and predictive power of academic self-concept and motivation to tertiary students' Mathematics achievement. This descriptive correlational research was conducted with 347 college students in selected tertiary schools in Davao de Oro. Mean scores, Pearson's Correlation Coefficient, and linear regression analysis were utilized to analyze the data. The study's result revealed that the students' academic selfconcept is moderate, and their learning motivation is high. The study also reported a very satisfactory level of performance in Mathematics. Further, academic self-concept and motivation significantly predict students' mathematics achievement in Mathematics. These findings suggest that academic self-concept and motivation are vital factors in enhancing students' achievement in Mathematics. Objective: This study investigates the impact of both maternal psychopathological factors and adaptive psychological changes within the couple on fetal growth, emphasizing the importance of evaluating pregnancy from the perspectives of the couple, the mother, and the fetus collectively. A "couple" in this context refers to heterosexual partners engaged in the pregnancy process together, whether married or in a stable relationship. Methods: We included 189 pregnant women in their first trimester, tracking maternal depression, anxiety, body appreciation, prenatal attachment, and the couple's adjustment level across each trimester. Fetal growth parameters measured include biparietal diameter, femur length, humerus length, abdomen circumference, head circumference, β-HCG, and amniotic fluid levels, with relationships between these variables being modeled accordingly. Results: Our findings indicate stable levels of maternal depression, anxiety, body appreciation, and couple's adjustment throughout the pregnancy, with a significant increase in prenatal attachment levels in each subsequent trimester. Prenatal attachment in the first trimester and maternal depression levels in the second and third trimesters were found to directly influence fetal growth, while other variables exhibited indirect effects. Conclusions: Fetal growth is influenced by a myriad of biopsychosocial factors. Ensuring healthy pregnancy and fetal development necessitates close monitoring and support of the mother's adaptive psychological changes, early identification and treatment of potential psychopathologies, and maintenance of the psychosocial health of the couple. Significance: Although there are studies on the effects of maternal psychopathology on fetal growth, there are few studies that study the effects of adaptive psychological changes during pregnancy and the couple's relationship on fetal growth together with maternal psychopathology. With this study, it was understood that there was only a change in the prenatal attachment levels of the mother during pregnancy, there was no significant change in anxiety, depression, body appreciation and dyadic adjustment, but the mutual interactions of these factors during each trimester had important effects on fetal growth. For a healthy pregnancy and healthy fetal development, it is necessary to closely monitor and support the adaptive psychological changes of the mother, early recognition and appropriate treatment of possible psychopathologies, and the psychosocial health of the couple. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of peripheral oxygen saturation (SpO2) measurements from Polar Elixir™ pulse oximetry technology compared with arterial oxygen saturation (SaO2) measurements during acute stepwise steady-state inspired hypoxia at rest. A post hoc objective was to determine if SpO2 measurements could be improved by recalibrating the Polar Elixir™ algorithm with SaO2 values from a random subset of participants. Methods: The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) protocol (ISO 80601-2-61:2017) for evaluating the SpO2 accuracy of pulse oximeter equipment was followed whereby five plateaus of SaO2 between 70% and 100%were achieved using stepwise reductions in inspired O2 during supine rest. Blood samples drawn through a radial arterial catheter from 25 participants were first used to compare SaO2 with SpO2 measurements from Polar Elixir™. Then the Polar Elixir™ algorithm was recalibrated using SaO2 data from 13 random participants, and SpO2 estimates were recalculated for the other 12 participants. For SaO2 values between 70%and 100%, root mean square error, intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC), Pearson correlations, and Bland--Altman plots were used to assess the accuracy, agreement, and strength of relationship between SaO2 values and SpO2 values from Polar Elixir™. Results: The initial root mean square error for Polar Elixir™ was 4.13%. After recalibrating the algorithm, the RMSE was improved to 2.67%. The ICC revealed excellent levels of agreement between SaO2 and Polar Elixir™SpO2 values both before (ICC(1,3) = 0.837, df = 574, P < 0.001) and after (ICC(1,3) = 0.942, df = 287, P < 0.001) recalibration. Conclusions: Relative to ISO standards, Polar Elixir™ yielded accurate SpO2 measurements during stepwise inspired hypoxia at restwhen comparedwith SaO2 values, which were improved by recalibrating the algorithm using a subset of the SaO2 data. Introduction: This study aimed to explore the potential impact of incorporating blood flow restriction (BFR) training within a training block characterized by minimal high-intensity work on 2000-m rowing ergometer time trial (TT) performance in elite/world-class rowers. Physiological markers often associated with endurance performance (maximal aerobic capacity, ... blood lactate thresholds and hemoglobin mass, Hbmass) were measured to determine whether changes are related to an improvement in performance. Methods: Using a quasi-experimental, observational study design (no control group), 2000-m TT performance, ..., submaximal work rates eliciting blood lactate concentrations of ~2 and ~4mmol⋅L-1, and Hbmass were measured before and after 4 wk of noncompetitive season training, which included BFR rowing. BFR training consisted of 11 sessions of 2 x 10 min of BFR rowing at a workload equating to blood lactate concentrations of ~2 mmol⋅L-1. Paired t-tests were used to compare pre-/postvalues, and Pearson correlation was used to examine whether physiological changes were associated with changes to TT performance. Results: TT performance improved in both female (1.09% ± 1.2%, ~4.6 ± 5.2 s; P < 0.01) and male (1.17% ± 0.48%, ~4.5 ± 1.9 s; P < 0.001) athletes. ... increased in female rowers only (P < 0.01), but both sexes had an increase in work rates eliciting blood lactate concentrations of 2 mmol⋅L-1 (female: 184 ± 16 to 195 ± 15 W, P < 0.01;male: 288 ± 23 to 317 ± 26W, P = 0.04) and 4 mmol⋅L-1 (female: 217 ± 13 to 227 ± 14 W, P = 0.02;male: 339 ± 43 to 364 ± 39W, P < 0.01). No changes in Hbmass (both sexes, P = 0.8) were observed. Improvements in TT performance were not related to physiological changes (all correlations P ≥ 0.2). Conclusions: After 4 wk of training with BFR, the improvement in TT performance was greater than what is typical for this population. Objective: The objective of this study is to determine the associations of protein‐specific anti–malondialdehyde‐acetaldehyde (MAA) antibodies with prevalent and incident rheumatoid arthritis–interstitial lung disease (RA‐ILD). Methods: Within a multicenter, prospective cohort of US veterans with RA, RA‐ILD was validated by medical record review of clinical diagnoses, chest imaging, and pathology. Serum antibodies to MAA‐albumin, MAA‐collagen, MAA‐fibrinogen, and MAA‐vimentin (IgA, IgM, and IgG) were measured by a standardized enzyme‐linked immunosorbent assay. Associations of anti‐MAA antibodies with prevalent and incident RA‐ILD were assessed using multivariable regression models adjusting for established RA‐ILD risk factors. Results: Among 2,739 participants with RA (88% male, mean age of 64 years), there were 114 with prevalent and 136 with incident RA‐ILD (average time to diagnosis: 6.6 years). Higher IgM anti–MAA‐collagen (per 1 SD: adjusted odds ratio [aOR] 1.28, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.02–1.61), IgA anti–MAA‐fibrinogen (aOR 1.48, 95% CI 1.14–1.92), and IgA (aOR 1.78, 95% CI 1.34–2.37) and IgG (aOR 1.48, 95% CI 1.14–1.92) anti–MAA‐vimentin antibodies were associated with prevalent RA‐ILD. In incident analyses, higher IgA (per one SD: adjusted hazards ratio [aHR] 1.40, 95% CI 1.11–1.76) and IgM (aHR 1.29, 95% CI 1.04–1.60) anti–MAA‐albumin antibody concentrations were associated with increased ILD risk. Participants with IgA (aHR 2.13, 95% CI 1.16–3.90) or IgM (aHR 1.98, 95% CI 1.08–3.64) anti–MAA‐albumin antibody concentrations in the highest quartile had an approximately two‐fold increased risk of incident RA‐ILD. Across all isotypes, anti–MAA‐fibrinogen, anti–MAA‐collagen, and anti–MAA‐vimentin antibodies were not significantly associated with incident RA‐ILD. Conclusion: Protein‐specific anti‐MAA antibodies to collagen, fibrinogen, and vimentin were associated with prevalent RA‐ILD. IgA and IgM anti–MAA‐albumin antibodies were associated with a higher risk of incident RA‐ILD. BACKGROUND: Improving the quality of care is a priority for health systems to obtain better care and reduce costs. One of the tools for measuring quality is benchmarking (BM). We presented a 1- country prospective study of distal pancreatectomies (DPs) and determined BM. STUDY DESIGN: Prospective, multicenter, observational snapshot study of DP carried out at Spanish hepatopancreatobiliary centers for a year (February 1, 2022, to January 31, 2023). Hepatopancreatobiliary centers were defined as high volume if they performed more than 10 DPs per year. Inclusion criteria include any scheduled DP for any diagnosis and age older than 18 years. The low-risk group was defined following the criteria given by Durin and colleagues and major complications as Clavien-Dindo ≥III. RESULTS: A total of 313 patients from 42 centers and 46.6% from high-volume centers were included. Median DP by center was 7 (interquartile range 5 to 10), median age was 65 years (interquartile range 55 to 74), and 53.4% were female. The surgical approach was minimally invasive in 69.3%. Major complications were 21.1%. Postoperative pancreatic fistula grade B/C rate was 20.1%, and 90-day mortality was 1.6%. One hundred forty-three patients were in low-risk group (43.8%). Compared with previous BM data, an increasing MIS rate and fewer hospital stay were obtained. CONCLUSIONS: We present the first determination of DP-BM in a prospective series, obtaining similar results to the previous ones, but our BM values include a shorter hospital stay and a higher percentage of minimally invasive surgery probably related to Enhanced Recovery after Surgery protocols and prospective data collection. BACKGROUND: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common cause of cancer mortality worldwide. Of these, approximately 25% will have liver metastasis. We performed 394 microwave ablations (MWAs) and analyzed outcomes for survival and ablation failure. STUDY DESIGN: We conducted a retrospective review of patients who underwent a surgical MWA at a single-center high-volume institution from October 2006 to September 2022 using a prospectively maintained database. The primary outcome was overall survival. RESULTS: A total of 394 operations were performed on 328 patients with 842 tumors undergoing MWA. Median tumor size was 1.5 cm (range 0.4 to 7.0 cm), with the median number of tumors ablated per operation being 1 (range 1 to 11). A laparoscopic approach was used 77.9% of the time. Concomitant procedures were performed 63% of the time, most commonly hepatectomy (22.3%), cholecystectomy (17.5%), and colectomy (6.6%). Clavien-Dindo grade III or IV complication occurred in 12 patients (3.6%), and all of these patients had undergone concomitant procedures. Mortality within 30 days occurred in 4 patients (1.2%). The rate of incomplete ablation was 1.5% per tumor. Local recurrence occurred at a rate of 6.3% per tumor. Black patients were found to have a higher incidence of incomplete ablation and local recurrence. One-year survival probability was 91% (95% CI 87.9 to 94.3), with a mean overall survival of 57.6 months (95% CI 49.9 to 65.4 months). CONCLUSIONS: Surgical MWA offers a low-morbidity approach to treatment of colorectal liver metastasis, with low rate of failure. BACKGROUND: Contralateral prophylactic mastectomy (CPM) remains a personal decision, influenced by psychosocial factors, including cosmesis and peace of mind. Although use of CPM is disproportionately low among Black patients, the degree to which these disparities are driven by patient- vs hospital-level factors remains unknown. STUDY DESIGN: Patients undergoing mastectomy for nonmetastatic ductal or lobular breast cancer were tabulated using the National Cancer Database from 2004 to 2020. The primary endpoint was receipt of CPM. Multivariable logistic regression models were constructed with interaction terms between Black-serving hospital (BSH) status and patient race to evaluate associations with CPM. Cox proportional hazard models were used to evaluate long-term survival. RESULTS: Of 597,845 women studied, 70,911 (11.9%) were Black. After multivariable adjustment, Black race (adjusted odds ratio 0.65, 95% CI 0.64 to 0.67) and treatment at BSH (adjusted odds ratio 0.84, 95% CI 0.83 to 0.85) were independently linked to lower odds of CPM. Although predicted probability of CPM was universally lower at higher BSH, Black patients faced a steeper reduction compared with White patients. Receipt of CPM was linked to improved survival (hazard ratio [HR] 0.84, 95% CI 0.83 to 0.86), whereas Black race was associated with a greater HR of 10-year mortality (HR 1.14, 95% CI 1.12 to 1.17). CONCLUSIONS: Hospitals serving a greater proportion of Black patients are less likely to use CPM, suggestive of disparities in access to CPM at the institutional level. Further research and education are needed to characterize surgeon-specific and institutional practices in patient counseling and shared decision-making that shape disparities in access to CPM. BACKGROUND: After traumatic injury, 13% to 14% of patients use the emergency department (ED) and 11% are readmitted within 30 days. Decreasing ED visits and readmission represents a target for quality improvement. This cohort study evaluates risk factors for ED visits and readmission after trauma, focusing on outpatient follow-up. STUDY DESIGN: We conducted a retrospective chart review of adult trauma admissions from January 1, 2018, to December 31, 2021. Our primary exposure was outpatient follow-up, primary outcome was ED use, and secondary outcome was readmission. Multivariable logistic regression evaluated the association between primary exposure and outcomes, adjusting for factors identified on unadjusted analysis. RESULTS: In total, 2,266 patients met inclusion criteria, with an 11.3% ED visit rate and 4.1% readmission rate. Attending follow-up did not have a significant association with ED visit (odds ratio 0.99, 95% CI 0.99 to 2.01, p = 0.05) or readmission rate (odds ratio 1.68, 95% CI 0.95 to 2.99, p = 0.08). Significant associations with ED use included non-White race, depression, anxiety, substance use disorder, discharge disposition, and being discharged with lines or drains. Significant associations with readmission included depression, anxiety, and discharge disposition. CONCLUSIONS: Emphasizing outpatient follow-up in trauma patients is not an effective target to decrease ED use or readmission. Future studies should focus on supporting patients with mental health comorbidities and investigating interventions to optimally engage with trauma patients after hospital discharge. The Multifactorial Memory Questionnaire (MMQ; Troyer & Rich, [2002]. Psychometric properties of a new metamemory questionnaire for older adults. The Journals of Gerontology Series B: Psychological Sciences and Social Sciences, 57(1), P19–P27) is a widely used measure of subjective memory consisting of three scales: Satisfaction, Ability, and Strategies. Although subjective memory complaints are prevalent across different age groups, the factor structure and psychometric properties of the MMQ have yet to be examined in young adults. Here, we independently replicated the original MMQ factor structure in N = 408 young adults (YA) recruited from undergraduate courses and N = 327 older adults (OA) and, for the first time, assessed the age-invariance of the scale using measurement invariance testing. YAs made significantly higher ratings than OAs on MMQ-Satisfaction and MMQ-Strategies, indicating greater satisfaction with their memory and greater use of strategies, but the groups were similar on MMQ-Ability. The original MMQ factor structure was replicated in OAs but not in YAs, and age invariance was not supported. Future studies seeking to compare young and older adults could therefore consider either requesting modification of the MMQ for use with young adults or using a different scale. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
