This writing is born out of our experiences of becoming older women, academy hags, facing the performative demands of the neoliberalizing patriarchal university. We are raging. With the figure of the Crone, and feminist-killjoy-croning as our creative and livid research method (Ahmed, S. 2023. Feminist Killjoy. London: Penguin Random House), we squeeze time out/with impossible university spaces and schedules to tend to grey matters. This paper traces the normalization of menopause policies in workplaces and universities, following the social trending and capitalization of menopausal and ageing matters. We question what menopause policies do and argue they constitute a failed project for the advancement of gender equality and should be abandoned. Inspired by Barad’s (2021. “Dialogue with Karen Barad Dialogues on Agential Realism.” In Dialogues on Agential Realism: Engaging in Worldings through Research Practice, edited by H. P. Juelskjær and A. W. Stine, 118–141. London: Taylor and Francis) call to engage in ‘spacetimemattering’, we create webs of entanglement through the objects of university menopause policies. "The Greek Revolution: 1821 and the Making of Modern Europe" by Mark Mazower explores the Greek War of Independence against the Ottoman Empire and its broader implications for Europe. Late last year, a federal court sided with the Department of Justice and blocked the planned merger of book publishers Simon & Schuster and Penguin Random House. The decision was a rare collision between antitrust law and the deeply consolidated copyright content industries. Over the course of the past decade, acquisitions and mergers in the recording, music publishing, and audiovisual space have left just a handful of juggernaut content producers in their wake. Moreover, new technology companies that have entered the content-creation and distribution markets have begun to leverage their scale to further their own industry consolidation. This Article examines the growing competition problems in the copyright industries and argues that, despite a resurgent interest in antitrust enforcement among policymakers, antitrust alone has not provided adequate solutions. Indeed, in the aftermath of the DOJ's victory against Penguin Random House, the publishing industry is now predicting that Simon & Schuster will simply be stripped and sold for parts, hurting author compensation while doing little to stop industry concentration. Copyright law--including its collection of safe harbors, compulsory licenses, and other industry-regulating regimes--also appears unable to meaningfully address the current reality. The Article argues that antitrust and copyright law cannot work in silos. To find a way forward, we shine a spotlight on an underexplored legal regime: the antitrust consent decrees that continue to regulate certain licensing markets in the music industry by subjecting the organizations ASCAP and BMI to rate setting by the federal courts. We draw on this unusual system--perhaps the only example of antitrust regulation that has directly incorporated a concern with copyright's policy agenda--to propose a new regulatory model based not on discrete, one-off interventions (such as blocking a merger), but rather full regulation of the licensing practices in concentrated content markets. As the consent decree model shows, copyright and competition law can work in tandem, ensuring that antitrust regulation of the creative-content space remains sensitive to copyright's overarching goals of incentivizing creativity and ensuring public access to cultural works. Noreena Hertz, The Lonely Century: How to Restore Human Connection in a World That's Pulling Apart: New York: Penguin Random House, 2021. This definition, Hertz argues, is in line with thinkers like Marx, Durkheim, Arendt, and Huxley, among others (Hertz [5], p. 11). For over 40 years, starting in 1954, Popular Electronics Magazine was the major American publication for electrical hobbyists. The last years of the magazine saw it renamed Computers and Electronics. This is an unremarkable history but, as explained by Peter Bebergal about 3/4th of the way through his fascinating book Strange Frequencies, there is an issue from October 1995 that proposes experiments that deviate from the magazine’s usual gadgetry. Behind him, he is haunted by a trio of faded ghost-like figures. The cover story is captioned, “Ghost voices: Are the dead trying to contact us through electronic means? Try these experiments and see for yourself” The article begins with a discussion of two electronic voice phenomena (EVP) experimenters of the 1950s: Frederich Jurgenson and Konstantin Raudive who claimed that with electronics they have communicated with the dead and that they have recordings of those voices preserved on tape. Long-standing criteria for Common Reads (CR) programs recognize the value of diversity in the book selection process. This study, examining 1,801 books chosen over a four-year period (2017–20), explored the extent to which these programs have embodied this spirit. In particular, this work focused on the diversity of the books (through genre and subject headings) and the authors (gender, nationality, ethnicity and race). We also looked at characteristics of participating institutions and publishers. Initial data was gathered from an annual list of CR selections posted online by Penguin Random House. Findings revealed a notable presence of diverse topics in the titles selected and an examination of a subset of authors showed that 58% of these authors were people of color. Possible areas of improvement are noted, including expanding the geographic focus of books as well as potential implications for CR programs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

With its alumnus having founded 1300 VC backed startups since 2006, of which 19 achieved unicorn status (many of whom have been author's students), HBS has been a fertile ground for the startup factory. Where readers might diverge from I Rethinking Sex i is in Emba's assertion that certain sexual behaviors or relationship models are intrinsically less-than: less healthy, less consensual, less empowering, and less socially tolerable. The phenomenon of state capture is creating political angst among South African citizens, and therefore the role the media is playing in revealing sensitive information about key personas, as well as evoking public interest and debate, warrants further investigation. This article explores the media's role, but specifically trade book publishers' roles as gatekeepers and information disseminators in a post-democratic South Africa. Case studies of the controversial socio-political exposés Jacques Pauw's The President's Keepers: Those keeping Zuma in Power and out of Prison (published by NB Publishers in 2017), and Pieter-Louis Myburgh's Gangster State: Unravelling Ace Magashule's Web of Capture (published by Penguin Random House in 2019), are used to illustrate that these publishers achieved both social and business objectives in publishing high-risk titles. NB Publishers and Penguin Random House managed to publish these titles in the right format (hard copy and electronic format), at the right time (before the provincial and national elections), at the right price, and were supported by strong publicity and marketing campaigns, which contributed to the success of these titles. Furthermore, publishers assisted in bridging the gaps in knowledge that may have existed among concerned South African citizens because of political uncertainty, by publishing timely and relevant books. This concept links with Dervin's sense-making methodology regarding information behaviour, and the aim of this article is to highlight the synergy between gatekeeping and sensemaking, fuelled by trade publishers that take calculated risks in publishing controversial titles, amid a politically tense environment.
