Abstract

Predictions of marine ice-sheet behaviour require models able to simulate grounding-line migration. We present results of an intercomparison experiment for plan-view marine ice-sheet models. Verification is effected by comparison with approximate analytical solutions for flux across the grounding line using simplified geometrical configurations (no lateral variations, no buttressing effects from lateral drag). Perturbation experiments specifying spatial variation in basal sliding parameters permitted the evolution of curved grounding lines, generating buttressing effects. The experiments showed regions of compression and extensional flow across the grounding line, thereby invalidating the boundary layer theory. Steady-state grounding-line positions were found to be dependent on the level of physical model approximation. Abstract

A partir de l’étude ethnopsychiatrique de dispositifs thérapeutiques propres à la culture occidentale et destinés à des personnes en situation de deuil difficile, nous proposons une analyse des modalités de transformation des relations entre vivants et morts. A l’aide d’entretiens de recherches menés avec des professionnels du monde médical et paramédical belge et français et avec des usagers de leurs dispositifs thérapeutiques, nous démontrons que le deuil peut être lu comme une transformation des relations entre vivants et morts constituée de deux processus conjoints. Le premier se présente comme une purification émotionnelle du lien affectif unissant le vivant et son proche décédé et va de pair avec l’instauration progressive du mort vers une forme idéale de lui-même. Le deuxième consiste à pérenniser dans le temps ce lien affectif purifié et idéal. Ce double mouvement fait appel à diverses visions typiquement occidentales des liens, des émotions et de la vie après la mort. Abstract

We present the results of the first ice sheet model intercomparison project for higher-order and full-Stokes ice sheet models. These models are compared and verified in a series of six experiments of which one has an analytical solution obtained from a perturbation analysis. The experiments are applied to both 2-D and 3-D geometries; five experiments are steady-state diagnostic, and one has a time-dependent prognostic solution. All participating models give results that are in close agreement. A clear distinction can be made between higher-order models and those that solve the full system of equations.
