Akrasia, otherwise known as 'weakness of will', is a state of mind whereby people act deliberately against their better judgment. This paper aims to provide a conceptual framework for understanding akrasia from psychosocial perspectives that assume the self is multiple and strongly interconnected with the relational flow of which it is a part. Drawing on key ideas from Dialogical Self Theory, we analyze the main dialogical dynamics that can generate akratic episodes with reference to how individuals organize their personal position repertoire, and to the relational and socio‐cultural setting in which the actions are taken. The discussion enables us to identify some indicators to frame the tendency to betray one's good intentions, and to offer some suggestions on how to reduce the occurrence of the various forms of akrasia analyzed. We explored professor identity in situations such as being placed in privileged scenarios to explore transactions between the inter and intrasubjective, the public and private, as well as among discourse, action and emotion. Following a period of class observations, we used a multiple-case design to select and individually interview three university professors who possessed different instructional profiles: direct, interdirect and interconstructive. Our aims were to identify the professors' personal position repertoires and to capture how those varied in regard to their instructional profiles. Professors with profiles that combined interpretive and constructive zones enunciated a greater variety and quantity of internal and external positions regarding academic adversities, emotions and the learning and teaching of knowledge. The three professors all held shared I-positions regarding the internalization of practices and norms from their educational culture. We concluded that instructional changes do not only involve progressive explicitation of contents and attitudes regarding learning and teaching, but also of who the represented agents are and what positions they adopt as learners and professors in the classroom. O objetivo deste estudo foi analisar as relações lógicas que fundamentam a abordagem dialógica do self e sua contraparte instrumental, o Repertório de Posições Pessoais (RPP). A análise partiu da evidência fornecida pela aplicação do RPP a 17 participantes com idade entre 19 e 34 anos (11 mulheres). Os resultados sugeriram dois contextos para o fenômeno da dialogicidade: a possibilidade de uma pessoa perceber-se como uma multiplicidade de características, e de construir narrativas sobre si a partir de diferentes pontos de vista. Esses resultados indicaram que o RPP é capaz de demonstrar a estrutura espacial da dialogicidade, mas não a dialogicidade em ação, que se revela um resultado da natureza narrativa do self. Para concluir, são discutidas limitações e possibilidades do RPP.
