Abstract

A Ni-BaTiO3 functionally graded material (FGM) was elaborated from 5 separate layers, ranging from 0 to 100 wt.% Ni content, by Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS) method. To estimate the variation of mechanical properties in the FGM thickness, 5 homogenous mixtures (100% BaTiO3, 75% BaTiO3-25% Ni, 50% BaTiO3 - 50% Ni, 25% BaTiO3-75% Ni and 100% Ni) were sintered. The density, the Vickers hardness, the Young's modulus and Poisson ratio were measured. In order to observe the impact of polarization on their properties (in future work), non-destructive tests are performed in this study. Results from monolithic pellet are gathered to identify the power law that governs the variation of this property in the FGM thickness. The results show that each property has its own power law.

Abstract

Multi-functional photovoltaic (PV) inverters incorporate ancillary services to enhance power quality and mitigate stability issues in distribution networks. These next-generation PV inverters will achieve a higher utilization of the inverter's rated capacity, improving the cost-effectiveness of PV technology. However, the power required to perform ancillary services, such as load compensation capabilities, could exceed the inverter's capacity, risking the components' integrity. Therefore, multi-functional control algorithms must limit the power capacity according to the system's nominal currents. Despite this, most control proposals do not address this issue when load balancing capabilities are included for PV inverter control. This paper proposes a flexible control strategy for three-phase multi-functional PV inverters, considering load balancing functionalities while keeping the inverter currents within safe operating limits. The proposal introduces two control parameters whose variation results in different load compensation capabilities. These parameters can be adapted dynamically according to the inverter rated capacity not used for active power injection and the load compensation requirements. Additionally, a control algorithm is proposed to limit the inverter current according to the nominal values supported by the device. This algorithm also allows setting compensation objectives following a priority scheme in which the injection of the PV active power is prioritized over the load compensation functionalities. Reactive power compensation and load balancing functionalities are also considered at a lower level of hierarchical priority. The proposal was evaluated through experimental tests on a multi-functional PV inverter prototype under various operational conditions. Les formations au management sont peu fondées sur une analyse de l’activité des managers et sur les conditions réelles d’exercice de leur activité. Ce texte s’appuie sur trois cas de formation ou d’intervention visant à transformer l’activité des managers. Le traitement de situations réelles, complexes, sert de support à un travail réflexif permettant de mettre à distance ce qui se passe ou s’est passé, de le prendre comme objet d’analyse et d’en tirer un savoir-faire réutilisable. L’analyse de ces trois cas souligne d’une part le rôle crucial du collectif et de l’interactionnel dans ces processus réflexifs, d’autre part le rôle mixte de l’intervenant-formateur : aide à la résolution des difficultés et soutien au travail réflexif. Management curricula are seldom grounded on an analysis of managers’ activity and on the actual conditions of their activity. This text draws on three attempts for transforming managers’ activity, in a training program and in two field interventions. The processing of real, complex situations is used to support a reflective work taking into consideration what happened and attempting to elaborate the knowledge gained. The analysis of the three cases highlights on one hand the centrality of the teams and of interactions in the reflective processes, on the other hand the double role of the consultant/trainer: contributing to probleme solving and supporting reflective processes.

Le travail des managers et les questions de management constituent aujourd’hui une préoccupation importante pour les praticiens et les chercheurs en ergonomie. Dans ce papier, nous énonçons un positionnement concernant les évolutions sociétales et d’entreprise et la façon dont l’ergonomie a évolué en conséquence. Plus précisément, nous proposons une lecture de l’évolution qui depuis une quarantaine d’années, touche les entreprises pour pointer la façon dont elle conduit à des formes d’organisation plus rigides accentuant le contrôle et les exigences des clients. Nous faisons alors le constat que cette évolution n’a pas été uniforme puisque les années 1990 ont été le berceau de tentatives d’enrichissement des tâches des opérateurs, par délégation de tâches de l’encadrement intermédiaire, tout en pointant que le travail des managers s’est transformé, notamment en s’éloignant du travail. Nous observons alors que les ergonomes, en réponse à ces évolutions, se sont intéressés aux déterminants organisationnels de différents niveaux, cherchant à favoriser la durabilité des effets, mais aussi à poursuivre les travaux déjà menés sur le développement de l’activité. Enfin nous défendons, face à ces évolutions, l’utilité de développer les approches ergonomiques du travail des managers, tant pour son rôle important dans le fonctionnement organisationnel, notamment les régulations, que pour la place qu’il joue dans le développement de l’activité des autres. Ainsi, le travail des managers devient aujourd’hui, plus que jamais, un objet d’étude incontournable et surtout une cible majeure pour des interventions organisationnelles. Nous verrons que les transitions sociétales en cours et à venir renforcent cette position. Managers’ work and management issues are nowadays a major concern for ergonomist practitioners and researchers. In this paper, we highlight societal and corporate evolutions and the way that ergonomics has evolved as a result. We propose a reading of the evolution that has been affecting companies for the last forty years, and show how the tertiarization and financialization of the economy and of companies have led them to deploy more rigid forms of organization that accentuate the control and demands of customers. We go on to observe that this evolution has not been uniform consistent, because the 1990s were the cradle of attempts to add to the tasks of operators by delegating tasks from middle management, while at the same time highlighting the fact that managers’ jobs have been transformed, particularly by a move away from actual workof attempts to enrich the tasks of operators by delegating tasks to middle management, while pointing out that. But gradually, the work of managers was transformed, particularly by moving away from work (Gomez, 2013). We then make the observation that in response to these developments, ergonomists have looked at different levels of organizational determinants, in order to improve the sustainability of the effects and to continue the work already carried out on business development of the activity. Finally, we defend the utility of developing ergonomic approaches to managers’ work, both for its key role in organizational functioning, particularly regarding regulations, and for the role it plays in the development of the activity of other employees. Hence today, more than ever, their work becomes an essential object of study and above all a major target for organizational intervention. We will see that current and future societal transitions reinforce this position.

Abstract

The Committee for Hygiene, Safety and Working Conditions (CHSW) is a key part of the system of occupational risk prevention and improvement of working conditions in French companies. While its role is increasingly recognized, it often has difficulties functioning and finding its place in the industrial relations landscape. This situation is linked, on the one hand, to the nature of the Committee--which is at the same time an employee representation body and a risk prevention body working in coordination with the company's other departments--and, on the other, to the scope of its intervention. Its actions and their efficiency are directly related to the CHSW's ability to discuss different and sometimes opposing conceptions of working conditions, health, occupational risks, and the exercise of the representation mandate. The different conceptions of the various actors involved will influence the strategy and actions of the Committee. Our research relies on two kinds of data. Those collected through interviews and participant observations of 27 CHSW in companies of various sizes and industrial sectors. Other data were collected by means of a questionnaire in more than 100 CHSW during training sessions and interventions in companies over a period of five years and through the consultation of minutes of meetings or briefing materials issued to members attending such meetings. The aim of this paper is to show that, while the tensions running through the activity of the CHSW are, for a large part, inherently related to its characteristics, and are frequently the cause of conflicts, they are also a source of fruitful debate and constitute an area of creativity for the development of collective action. In addition to the CHSW in France, we are convinced that the conclusions of this research can be applied to any body responsible for risk prevention and the improvement of working conditions in companies across the world. Ensuite, des donnees collectees au moyen d'une grille de questionnement aupres de plus de 100 CHSCT lors de sessions de formation ou d'interventions dans des entreprises sur une periode de cinq ans, et de la consultation de proces-verbaux de reunion ou de documents d'information remis aux membres de l'instance. Abstract

Fruits of Fragaria species usually have an appealing bright red color due to the accumulation of anthocyanins, water-soluble flavonoid pigments. Octoploid cultivated strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa) is a major horticultural crop for which fruit color and associated nutritional value are main breeding targets. Great diversity in fruit color intensity and pattern is observed not only in cultivated strawberry but also in wild relatives such as its octoploid progenitor F. chiloensis or the diploid woodland strawberry F. vesca , a model for fruit species in the Rosaceae. This review examines our understanding of fruit color formation in strawberry and how ongoing developments will advance it. Natural variations of fruit color as well as color changes during fruit development or in response to several cues have been used to explore the anthocyanin biosynthetic pathway and its regulation. So far, the successful identification of causal genetic variants has been largely driven by the availability of high-throughput genotyping tools and high-quality reference genomes of F. vesca and F. × ananassa. The current completion of haplotype-resolved genomes of F. × ananassa combined with QTL mapping will accelerate the exploitation of the untapped genetic diversity of fruit color and help translate the findings into strawberry improvement. Professional equality cannot be decreed, it is built in day-to-day management and in the mode of governance of the company. It is not possible to move towards real equality if we do not question the definition of tasks, the skills actually implemented, the organization of work. Without extensively involving the employees concerned either. Otherwise, the inegalitarian mechanisms, the mechanisms of domination, will favour the reconstitution of a gendered division of labour. From a research-intervention carried out in a wine company, we want to emphasize the need to build the approach on three pillars: support for sustained social dialogue with staff representatives, the articulation between social dialogue and managerial dialogue by involving employees in the discussions and by involving managers in the reflection on the changes brought about in their own activity, and finally by basing the approach on a questioning of work and professional know-how. Abstract

Some carbon–manganese (C–Mn) structural steels are known to be sensitive to aging under deformation between 100 and 350°C, phenomenon called dynamic strain aging (DSA). This paper is aimed at studying the DSA sensitivity through the thermal response of C–Mn steels during ultrasonic fatigue tests. For this purpose, self‐heating tests are conducted on two C–Mn steel grades, extensively used in the nuclear industry. Tests are monitored by infrared thermography. DSA effect clearly appears on self‐heating curves by a singular temperature rise. The DSA occurrence is correlated with results from internal friction tests, in particular with the presence of the cold work peak. The temperature of 100°C related to the start of the thermally activated DSA phenomenon is retrieved by self‐heating tests. Based on a further intrinsic dissipation computation, DSA distinctly differs from the classical dislocation glide mechanism. Furthermore, a stress threshold of irreversibility is shown to emerge. Abstract

International audience; Terrestrialization of vascular plants, i.e., Angiosperm, is associated with the development of cuticular barriers that prevent biotic and abiotic stresses and support plant growth and development. To fulfill these multiple functions, cuticles have developed a unique supramolecular and dynamic assembly of molecules and macromolecules. Plant cuticles are not only an assembly of lipid compounds, i.e., waxes and cutin polyester, as generally presented in the literature, but also of polysaccharides and phenolic compounds, each fulfilling a role dependent on the presence of the others. This mini-review is focused on recent developments and hypotheses on cuticle architecturefunction relationships through the prism of non-lipid components, i.e., cuticle-embedded polysaccharides and polyester-bound phenolics.
