Recent political theory has seen a revived interest in theorizing the political party, and, in particular, exploring what the political party can do to address its decline and revitalize itself. This renewed interest, however, draws largely on the political praxis of party politics of established liberal democracies in the United States and Europe. In this article, I bring Chinese thinker Wang Hui's (Maoist) party theory into the conversation. By engaging Wang's party theory, I demonstrate how we can understand party decline in nonliberal democratic countries with revolutionary legacies. I then analyze Wang's solution to the decline of the revolutionary party, which focuses on the intricate relationship between individualistic charismatic politics and party politics. Finally, through reading Wang in and beyond the Chinese context, I show the problems with Wang's theory and discuss how it can learn from the party-movement relationship in other contexts. After the defeat of Poitiers, a storm of chaos swept over France, threatening the French government. Amidst these events, which included the Paris Revolution, the Reform Movement in the Estates-General, the civil war on the part of some feudal factions, the tangled political conspiracies, and the complex relations with England, the figure of Robert Lecock emerged, described by some as a pioneer in the Estates-General, and one of the most skilled and dangerous figures of the time. This man had a major role, as he took advantage of the unfortunate circumstances after the defeat at Poitiers and played a major role in the EstatesGeneral. Robert Lecock had a great influence on the political scene, whether this influence was overt or covert. Despite the difference between contemporaries about his personality, between blame and admiration, he succeeded in gaining the trust of all parties, and was for a period of time the actual ruler of the country by controlling the Royal Council and the Crown Prince. But he lost everything in the end, after he threw himself into the arms of Charles the Bad, King of Navarre, enemy of the French kingdom and ally of England, and that was his end as a clergyman and statesman. Tim Argall explores Jesus' role as Sar Shalom (Prince of Peace) and the implications for leadership. Shalom, encompassing peace, wholeness, and divine intention, contrasts with typical human notions of leadership. By analysing Jesus' servant leadership, compassion, and authentic living, Argall suggests that shalom leadership integrates these principles, providing a holistic model for contemporary Christian leadership. COLLECTIVE unconscious , *MACHIAVELLIANISM (Psychology) , *STATESMEN , *PRINCES , *PRINCESSES - Abstract
This paper discusses Machiavelli and Cesare Borgia's enduring and always vivid association in the collective unconscious as illustrated by easily made
photomontages found in the press and on internet. A firstphotomontage associates Machiavelli's body as depicted in Santi di Tito's portrait ( 1564) with the head of contemporary statesmen (D. Cameron, B. Obama, E. Macron, M. Renzi…) or stateswomen (T. May, A. Merkel). A secondphotomontage offers a double portrait of the prince and his counselor. My point is to show that men and women stand in for Cesare Borgia as heirs of the would-be paradigmatic Prince while Machiavelli embodies the essence of politics. This paper aims to connect contemporary and popular Machiavellianism to sixteenth anti-Machiavellianism. The intent is to understand which features and circumstances favor the graft between Borgia, Machiavelli and this or that Prince or Princess. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

Western Alaska’s convergent margins are composed of tectonostratigraphic terranes. On land, terrane assembly is recognized along boundaries or sutures between neighboring geologic elements with distinctly different origins. In marine areas where rock outcrops are covered by sediment, recognizing terrane sutures is problematic. A fault in seismic dip line 5 of the ALEUT project has been interpreted as a terrane suture. It is imaged intermittently down to the 30+-km-deep plate interface. Processing of ALEUT strike line 7 revealed the suture at ~18 km depths extending 300 km along the margin. Upper structures in line 5 are like the structures of adjacent seismic transects where imaging is only 8−10 km deep. They were previously not recognized as the upper reaches of terrane sutures and show structural details obscured at greater depths. The composite data are the basis for a simple tectonic model of terrane docking. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article examines how diplomatic representatives of the Republic of Türkiye assessed efforts by Japanese nationalist groups to install the deposed Ottoman Prince Mehmed Abdulkerim (Şehzade Abdülkerim Efendi) as the head of a potential Islamic state in Xinjiang. There is little existing literature addressing this historical episode, with only one English-language research article focusing on Prince Abdulkerim previously published. In our research, we draw on recently declassified and previously unexplored Turkish archives to further deepen our understanding of Prince Abdulkerim's case, specifically, and Turkish foreign policy, in general. Prince Abdulkerim's journey from the Ottoman Empire to Japan and his engagement with Pan-Asianist groups there highlight the complex diplomatic exchanges of that era. Türkiye's cautious and pragmatic response to Prince Abdulkerim's activities, including its collaboration with the USSR to counter Japan's expansionist ambitions, underscores the young Republic's priority to safeguard its domestic and international interests as perceived by the Kemalist regime. Overall, this study not only enhances our understanding of Prince Abdulkerim's case and Turkish foreign policy during the interwar period but also sheds light on the broader geopolitical shifts in early 20th-century Asia. The Rasāyil a sumptuous manuscript produced at the royal library of the Timurid prince Bāysunghur in Herat in 1427 contains seven rare treatises copied by the renowned calligrapher Shams al-Sulṭānī. This article discusses the manuscript's literary content and artistic features and presents the intriguing discovery that the anthology acquired by Bernard Berenson in 1910 is not the complete codex and indeed bears signs of mutilation. It also identifies most of the lost components as extant and housed in three other collections. These discoveries enable a virtual reconstruction of the codex in the form produced for the prince. ECONOMIC activity ,PRUDENCE ,LEXICON ,PRINCES ,PROBABILITY theory - Abstract
The Latin terms commonly used to signify "risk" are absent from Thomas Aquinas's economic writings. Instead, Aquinas offers a lexicon of probability, prudence , and danger. This ternary lexicon brings with it a triple universalization of risk: first, a universalization through activity , including the activity of analysis considered as part of economic activity; second, a universalization through the agents , since everyone—the observer, the co-contractors, the prince, and the population—is affected by the risk; and, third, a partial universalization of its definition , since the lexicon indicates a risk that is not yet restricted by calculation, as the modern notion is, although some distinctions are already made by Aquinas. However, the lexicon describes only a risk of loss and does not take into account chance of gain. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article examines the entwined dynamics of gender, material bodies, and court politics at the Danish, absolutist court during what has been termed the reform reign, 1784–1797. The reform reign was inaugurated by a 1784 bloodless coup d’état, in which the crown prince took power in the royal Privy Council. During the following years, his leading advisers faced opposition from other factions at court and within the royal family, and the crown prince and his wife faced reproductive challenges, as they lost several children shortly after birth. The article explores the attempts at seeking influence made by two wives of leading advisers to the royal crown prince, Frederik (6.). Producing a male heir was imperative to the crown prince couple’s claim to power in the absolutist reign, and the advisers’ political positions therefore also hinged on the couple’s reproduction. I discuss how the advisers’ wives, the two sisters Sybille Reventlow (1753-1827) and Charlotte Schimmelmann (1757-1816), attempted to solve these issues and advance their group’s position at court. The article identifies several strategies employed by the women to help the crown prince couple’s situation, but primarily aimed at the crown princess; firstly, conversations on childrearing; secondly, the discussion of adoption; while a third strategy included traveling to the spa at Bad Pyrmont, where the advisers’ wives would engage the spa’s famous doctor Heinrich Mathias Marcard as accoucheur to the crown princess. The women’s struggles to gain influence show how those women who were not members of the royal household tried to navigate the political world of a hereditary and personal monarchy, where personal relationships and parenting experiences were also a political matter. PRINCES , *IMPOSTORS & imposture , *PROPAGANDA - Abstract
This note assesses Philippa Langley's four proofs for the survival of the two Princes in the Tower after 1485. Neither the Lille document nor supporting evidences prove that Lambert Simnel was really Edward V rather than Edward, earl of Warwick. The Gelderland manifesto recounting the escape of Richard, duke of York and the pretender's pledge to Duke Albert of Saxony were propaganda as necessary for the imposter Perkin Warbeck as for the real prince. The blemishes of Warbeck's body cannot be shown to identify him as the younger prince. While useful additions to the continental plots against Henry VII, these new evidences do not prove that either prince lived beyond the reign of Richard III. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ANCIENT cities & towns , *MOSQUES , *PRINCES - Abstract
Manisa, one of the ancient cities of Western Anatolia, after hosting many civilisations throughout history, came under Turkish rule at the beginning of the XIVth century and soon gained the identity of a Turkish-Islamic city. The city, which was the capital of the Saruhanogullari Principality, was one of the most important sanjak centres where princes were sent during the Ottoman period. In Manisa, which witnessed intensive construction activities in these centuries, many architectural works were built by both members of the dynasty and state officials. Among these buildings, the Lala Pasha Mosque is one of the examples of a single-domed mosque, but it also has some remarkable architectural features. The mosque has survived to the present day with various interventions over the centuries. The existing traces provide important data regarding the construction phases of the building. Nish joined the Ottoman administration in 1386. Ottoman rule continued in the region until 1878. In the 19th century, various rebellions against the Ottoman State took place in Nish and its neighbourhood. The 1841 Nish Rebellion is one of the most notable among them. For this reason, the related rebellion was determined as the subject of the study. In the study were investigated which the activities of Serbian prince Milos Obrenovic, main prince of the period Mihail and Miliyo (Miloje Jovanović) in the region during the Nish Rebellion, the tax issue that emerged after the Tanzimat, and the misconduct of some Ottoman officials. Especially Serbia’s encouraging and provocative attitudes towards the people of the region against the Ottoman State were analysed. Nish, Leskovac Sehirkoy, Kamaniche and Mutafcha villages, Vidin and Kula regions were identified as the spread areas of the rebellion. It was observed that Serbia carried out many activities against the Ottoman State before and during the Nish Revolt, and the Ottoman State tried to take certain measures. The aim of this study is to reveal the activities of Serbia in the face of the 1841 Nish Rebellion and the measures taken by the Ottoman State against this rebellion. In the research, archival documents, newspapers of the period, research and research works were utilised. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study delves into the economic and trade relations between Turkey, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia over the past five years, highlighting the evolution driven by strategic interests and regional stability. The research analyzes secondary data, examining official trade and investment reports, government statements, international organization data, and academic articles. It also considers diplomatic developments such as highlevel visits and agreements. The period from 2020 to 2024 witnessed significant growth and diversification in trade among these nations. Turkey's exports to the UAE and Saudi Arabia increased markedly, driven by sectors like agricultural technologies, food security, clean energy, and construction. Key moments include the establishment of a $10 billion investment fund following UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan's visit to Turkey in 2021 and the signing of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) in 2023, aiming to elevate bilateral trade to $40 billion over five years. Simultaneously, Turkey's economic relations with Saudi Arabia experienced fluctuations but generally depicted a positive trend. High-level visits by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman revitalized economic ties, resulting in cooperation agreements across various sectors, including health, energy, and the defense industry. The economic relations between Turkey, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia reflect a dynamic interplay of strategic interests, mutual investments, and shared goals. The strengthened economic partnerships have contributed to regional stability and are expected to develop further, driven by strategic collaborations in energy, technology, and infrastructure. These developments underscore the importance of economic diplomacy and mutual investments in shaping future cooperation prospects and regional power dynamics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

VOYAGES & travels , *FIFTEENTH century , *PRINCES , *MUSLIMS , *PRAISE - Abstract
The Kingdom of Portugal, which had an important role for the Western Christianity to know far lands in a century, ensured its territorial integrity in the struggle against the Muslims and decided to follow a policy of expansion after the first decade of the fifteenth century. The direction of the expansion, which would be experienced by sea, firstly was designated to the northwestern Africa; however, it soon turned to Atlantic islands. Thanks to the attempts of Prince Henrique “the Navigator”, his men regularly and progressively visited the African coast, and explorations and business voyages continued jointly. The expeditions arranged by him were recorded in detail. Yet, some voyages of similar importance were never so “privileged”. In the reign of Dom João II, the epoch-making sea voyage of Bartolomeu Dias didn’t enjoy praise in the chronicles, although, rounding the Cape of Good Hope “officially”, it opened up the sea-route to the East. In this study, Dias’ name will be analyzed by the published archival documents. Then, his voyage’s chronology, possible stopping places and the pillars (padrão) will be tried to be re-treated according to the contemporary sources, sea-charts and modern studies, and the problematic matters will be laid stress on, too. Austrian Habsburg resident in Constantinople Michael Starzer (1610 – 1622) and trans-imperial agent, future Ottoman diplomat and Prince of Moldavia Caspar Gratiani met in the Ottoman capital in the early 1610s. Based on the analysis of the Habsburg diplomat’s correspondence, the current article focuses on the interaction and cooperation between these two men from the spring of 1611 (i.e. when Michael Starzer first mentioned Gratiani in his letters to the Habsburg court) to the appointment of Gratiani as part of the Ottoman diplomatic mission to Linz in the summer of 1614. The main research questions concern the factors that contributed to the good relationship between them and its impact on the development of the Habsburg-Ottoman diplomacy during the first decade after the end of the Long Turkish War. In 1593 Francesco Maria II della Rovere, Duke of Urbino, sent a number of diplomatic gifts to Philip II of Spain, intended for the crown prince, the future Philip III. The gifts included a silver model of a citadel accompanied by a set of compasses, the whereabouts of which are currently unknown; a small gilt-bronze sculptural group which has been identified with Giovanni Bandini's The Hunt , today in the Prado Museum; and an illuminated manuscript recounting glorious episodes from the reign of the Emperor Charles V, Philip III's grandfather, identified with British Library, Add. ms 33733, which contains miniatures possibly by Simonzio Lupi. A study of some of the inventories made in Madrid at the beginning of the seventeenth century has revealed that The Hunt and the illuminated manuscript might subsequently have belonged to persons close to the Duke of Lerma, Philip III's prime minister – namely, Juan de Borja, the duke's uncle, and Jerónimo Funes, the son-in-law of the secretary of state, Count of Villalonga, respectively. Iran's military modernization was started by Abbas Mirza, the crown prince of Fath Ali Shah. He was the pioneer of reforms in the new era of Iran. During the period of Naser al-Din Shah, these measures gained momentum. The purpose of the current research is to explain the process of modernization of Iran's military forces during the Naseri period and its relationship with security and internal-external dual obstacles to its sustainable development. This renovation started from the chancellery of Amir Kabir and continued with ups and downs until the end of the Naseri period. The main question of this research concerns why Iran's military modernization was not put on a stable path to maintain the security and protection of the whole country. The findings of the research indicate that Amir Kabir tried to enter a third country into the equation in order to gain military independence. Pursuing this policy, despite internal structural obstacles and external influence, became the source of valuable services. In the era after Amir Kabir, despite the obstacles, these programs continued. None of the Russian and British governments were satisfied with the formation of a strong military force in Iran. The clan and tribal system was in addition a serious domestic impediment for the formation of order and security in the country. Therefore, despite the formation of Kazakh and the police forces, this policy could not lead to the establishment of order and security in the country to the extent it should. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Operetta is a musical and dramatic performance similar to, yet shorter than opera, composed to a dramatic libretto with humorous elements. It is a complex production engaging the viewer in an appealing visual and audible experience marked by a harmonious blend of movement, colour and form. From a choreographic perpective, operetta brings a particular approach in that nearly the entire performance consists of planned dance sequences or ample parts of scenic movement. The research topic is the ball organised by Prince Orlofsky of Die Fledermaus (The Bat) operetta by Johann Strauss – The Son, a part of Act II, staged by Matteo Mazzoni, choreographed by Roxana Colceag and acted out by Victor Bucur. The wide range of sequences of dance steps in an operetta performance is due to the themes of such performances which allow and even impose the existence of choreographic moments, on the one hand, and to the rhythmic, danceable music often inspired from various dances specific to the geographical area where the action takes place, on the other. The performers must accurately execute the dance technical elements. The method used in creating the choreographic moment under research is immitation–based learning. Immitation is the best-known and frequently used dance composition means and consists in the reproduction by the performer, as faithfully as possible, of a dance phrase given by the choreographer. The scenic movement and the planned sequences of dance steps are the valuable fruit of the choreographer's searches and of the performers' endeavours towards achieving a flawless creative behaviour on stage, always starting from the director's perspective. In embodying their character, the performer does not truly rely on the external models they refer to, but on a great amount of spontaneity and creativity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article investigates the dynamic sociopolitical transformation underway in Saudi Arabia, contextualizing it within the framework of territorial nationalism and examining the intricate interplay of historical, religious, and nationalist factors. The study explores various elements, including the burgeoning youth population, the reshaping of the rentier economy, internal structural changes within the ruling dynasty, the influence of Wahhabi-Salafi ideology, the evolving role of the religious institution, the women's rights issue, and the process of militarization. Cities throughout North America are experiencing a population boom in the city centre, fueled by changing consumer preferences, particularly amongst young adults. However, not all communities have experienced this phenomenon equally. In Prince George, a mid-sized city located in northern British Columbia, the downtown has not undergone a population resurgence. Instead, development continues to expand outwards at the edge of the city. Using a web-based survey, this research seeks to better understand the attitudes of young adults in Prince George, to gauge their perspectives about living downtown, and to understand the factors that constrain market demand. Our findings indicate that respondents hold negative perceptions about the downtown, which leads to soft market demand and impedes plans for population growth in the downtown. KEY MESSAGES * Young adults are fueling population growth in the downtowns of cities throughout North America. * Many mid-sized cities, such as Prince George, have not experienced this same phenomenon, because of soft market demand, stemming from negative perceptions about the downtown. * To increase the downtown population and contribute to the broader goal of revitalization, the city, in collaboration with other stakeholders, must first address the underlying factors that are impeding market demand. Over the nineteenth century, the global expansion of British trade and settlement were underwritten by a massive expansion of correspondence and communication networks. But while there are detailed studies of how the domestic Post Office developed in this era, how mail was carried between these colonial and international locations has not been fully investigated. This omission is striking because, as this article explains, the development of overseas mail services diverged significantly from the patterns of reform, cost-efficiency, and rationalisation described in histories of the domestic Post Office. Rather, the overseas mail grew through a set of unprecedented partnerships between the state and steamship companies that resulted in a surprisingly uneven postal network, which served an expanding collection of international and colonial ports but under highly variable conditions and costs. This article brings together postal records, Parliamentary debates, and the histories of steamship companies to explain how the overseas mail system developed between 1837 and 1880 as the power of private actors waxed and waned. It not only explains how a central utility of empire functioned but also provides insight on the operation of a key set of public-private partnerships in the nineteenth-century British world. The violent crackdown at Thammasat University on 6 October 1976 was one of the bloodiest massacres in the history of modern Thailand. The incident has never been fully investigated or resolved, despite many attempts by scholars and activists to recover memories and re-examine the incident. This article analyses the role of a photograph on the front page of a right-wing royalist newspaper, Dao Sayam – showing a student skit at the university – in the lead-up to the massacre. It examines the entanglement between the discourses of photography, the performativity of photographic image and the spectral image of communism made by the royalist-military propaganda. The article argues that the facial resemblance between the performer and Crown Prince Vajiralongkorn, which was central to the debate around the photograph, is a phantasma: a delusive appearance of communism as a spectre called up by imagination. It elaborates on how this picture transformed from a photograph of the skit into a haunting image by which the spectre of communism became representational, and how it worked in arousing rage among the Right wing. The skit photograph turned into an offensive image and contributed to the nightmarish event on the morning of 6 October 1976. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The advent of 3D virtual presentation technology for clothing has led to the gradual popularisation of digital virtual clothing in the modern fashion industry. However, there remains a gap between the application of this technology and the integration of cultural attributes in the field of digital communication of traditional cultural clothing. Consequently, the objective of this paper is to propose the establishment of a fusion system integrating archaeological research on traditional culture with emerging virtual presentation technology. This paper draws inspiration from the replicability and easy dissemination of digital products to combine cultural archaeology and digital technology. The aim is to provide ideas for the diversity of dissemination of cultural heritage. The research object is Diplomatic Envoys, a Chinese mural painting of the Tang Dynasty that depicts friendly exchanges between countries. The research is divided into two research stages. A CLO3D software-based digital restoration test was conducted to reproduce the costumes of officials and foreign envoys depicted in the Tang Dynasty mural. The FAHP model was employed to verify the accuracy of the restoration results. The experiment demonstrated that the digitally reconstructed clothing exhibited a high degree of similarity to the unearthed mural figure clothing object. Furthermore, the restoration result passed the credibility verification, resulting in a 'credible' outcome. The application of digital virtual simulation clothing restoration methods offers two key advantages. Firstly, in comparison with traditional clothing restoration methods, digital restoration enables the rapid assessment of the resulting clothing effect, thereby reducing the likelihood of secondary damage to cultural relics due to manual errors. Secondly, the benefits of digital technology facilitate the convenient storage, replication, and dissemination of clothing data information. Data can not only be extended to online exhibition halls but also to game animation, clothing production, and other fields for the purposes of creative redesign and information dissemination. Furthermore, these benefits can penetrate the education industry to disseminate information to the public through all-round display models and explanations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The primary goal of this research was to investigate students' perceptions of translation classes in the English language department at Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz University. The obtained data underwent fundamental analysis to determine students' concerns and identify components needing alteration to align with their learning objectives. According to the study, students developed an intellectual inclination, focused on recent discoveries, and were motivated to learn more about translation. They comprehended the course's learning objectives, believed it enhanced their professional development, and found it to meet their expectations. Students gained knowledge of translation concerns and key concepts, along with proficiency in translation processes and problem-solving techniques. According to students, the course was thorough, with an appropriate workload, fair evaluation, clear test requirements, and valuable feedback. They appreciated open communication, interaction with tutors, and collaborative problem-solving in translation challenges. The study suggests investigating students' impressions of web-based distance learning courses and how these attitudes evolve during translation courses. Recommendations include faculty training and incentives to participate. This training would assist instructors in becoming more familiar with the material and building effective teaching strategies. It would also guide academics in applying their own research and/or clinical practice, serving as a model for students' reflective practice. It is recommended that students hear from graduates currently applying this knowledge. Finally, future research may focus on translation programs at other universities in Saudi Arabia. The Sandringham Estate was purchased in 1862 by the Prince of Wales to be his home away from London. This article uses a variety of sources to chart the changes to the estate as the prince developed his new holding. The acquisition required staff at all levels and in many and varied roles, which gave opportunities to local people and to those who moved in from further away. The countryside changed dramatically too with new plantations of trees and significantly increased rearing of game birds. There were benefits for the local population in having a royal landlord but there was also tension related to the prince's predilection for blood sports and his level of control. The hitherto nearly invisible lower ranks of staff on this royal estate come to the fore in this article, which is a striking example of 'history from below' set immediately beside the royal family. This article discusses an anthology titled "Gateway to Statesmanship: Selections from Xenophon to Churchill," which explores the genre of "mirrors for princes," self-help manuals for rulers. The editor, John A. Burtka IV, argues that these texts can still be valuable for leaders today, despite the decline of ruling monarchs and the emphasis on present-focused education. The anthology includes selections from various historical periods and raises questions about the teaching of virtue and the role of literature in shaping leaders. The article suggests that while these texts offer practical wisdom, they may lack the context and engagement needed for young readers today. [Extracted from the article]

The article explores various musical compositions and albums, highlighting a group improvisation piece, an album by Franco Ambrosetti, an album by Myra Melford, and a disc by Charles McPherson. It also delves into the career of tenor Jan Peerce and compares his recognition to that of his brother-in-law, Richard Tucker. Despite Peerce's talent and success, his reputation seems to have faded over time. Peerce had a successful recording career, starting in 1931 and gaining attention through radio work. He made numerous recordings for RCA Victor, but many have not been reissued on CD, calling for a comprehensive box set of his work. Peerce also recorded with other groups and labels. The article also mentions Peerce's strained relationship with Richard Tucker and his cameo appearance in the film "Goodbye, Columbus," directed by his son. [Extracted from the article]

In 2009, archaeologists discovered a Coptic monastery in Abydos that contained a fragment of an inscription embedded in its floor. The inscription was determined to be over 1,500 years older than the monastery and was part of an ancient sarcophagus. Analysis of the inscription revealed that the sarcophagus originally held the mummified body of Ramesses II, a powerful pharaoh of Egypt. The sarcophagus was later reused and recarved by Menkheperre, a high priest of Amun. This discovery highlights the importance of reexamining objects to uncover new information. PRINCES - Abstract
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is a Metroidvania game developed by Ubisoft. The game starts off slow with simple platforming and a disjointed narrative, but improves in the second half. Players control Sargon, a member of the Immortals, who must save the prince Ghassan from Mount Qaf. The game introduces Time Powers that allow Sargon to navigate the environment and combat enemies. The platforming and combat mechanics are responsive and fluid, and the game offers options to adjust difficulty and accessibility features. However, the story is underdeveloped and the game takes too long to reach its more engaging aspects. Overall, it is a competent Metroidvania game with room for improvement. Management strategy evaluation (MSE) provides a mechanism to test the relative performance of alternative management strategies on a fishery. For Pacific herring in Prince William Sound, Alaska, no directed fisheries have occurred in over 30 years, providing an opportunity to evaluate potential management strategies before a fishery is opened. Here we evaluate and compare 10 harvest control rules (HCRs) ranging from simple threshold rules to rules accounting for population age structure, biomass trends, and weight distribution using an MSE integrated with a fully Bayesian stock assessment estimation model. We developed a utility function that shows simple threshold HCRs outperform the more complex rules, especially for catch stability. According to this utility function, the best rule had a lower limit threshold than the current default rule, while the worst rule had a higher limit threshold. Our simulations demonstrate that sufficient computing power exists for MSEs based on Bayesian estimation methods, thus opening a pathway for MSEs to simulation test probabilistic control rules, which provide a buffer against scientific uncertainty and should reduce the risk of overfishing. Shakespeare's little-regarded play King John expresses the pattern of the puer aeternus archetype in precise dramatic terms. In the play the puer shows up in the characters of King John and Prince Arthur; the puer's family complex is illustrated with impressive clarity; and the puer's shadow—the trickster—plays a constant compensatory role through the character of the Bastard Faulconbridge. Shakespeare's skill at weaving together the archetypal with a dramatized human manifestation is of especial help in understanding both. To conclude, a dream about Kanye West is brought into dialogue with King John, revealing some of the depths and heights of pain and fear, rarely appreciated, that the puer-identified individual experiences in trying to come down from the heights of inflation. Prince's alter-ego Camille is an elusive character, not least because they never officially existed. Camille was an album created and test-pressed by Prince between September and November of 1986, which he planned to release without his name attached; all production, writing, and vocals were to be credited to the mysterious and fictional Camille. Though Prince abandoned the Camille album in November 1986, he continued to engage with the character for years afterward, composing more Camille songs, writing Camille into the original draft of Graffiti Bridge, and including Camille in the Lovesexy Tour booklet (1988-1989). Camille as a character is inherently liminal: they had no assigned gender, being referred to as he or she in different mediums; no corporeal body, as they existed only as a pitch-altered voice; and did not exist as an established character, because the Camille album was never officially released. In this paper, I argue that Prince's Camille exists as a trans* caricature, meaning the character inhabits multiple stereotypes attributed to trans people, specifically trans women and transfemmes. To do this, I delve into the construction of the character and compare their depiction to an historic trans* caricature, the character Alexina from Oscar Panizza's short story, "A Scandal at the Convent" (1893), based on real-life White intersex person Herculine Barbin. I compare these characters to show how they were both constructed as trans* caricatures similarly but with crucial differences due to Prince's and Camille's Blackness. I argue then that in Camille we can situate an echo of Prince, an unmastered version who is predatory, animalistic, and inhabits transphobic stereotypes, and who, crucially, was then subsumed into Prince's own canon. By understanding this construction of Camille, we can more fully understand the taboo ways in which Prince queered the boundaries of his performance, and of Black masculinity, throughout his career. Margaret of Austria, the first female Habsburg regent of the Netherlands was renowned for her excellent political skills and dedicated administration of her dynasty's concerns, and as a patron of the arts. She created an outstanding Renaissance court in Mechelen, where she also cared for relatives who had been ousted from their position as rulers, as was the case for Isabella of Austria and Christian II of Denmark, exiled from their kingdom in 1523. The children of this royal couple went on to be raised and educated in Mechelen. This study seeks to shed light upon the education of the princes of Denmark, Dorothea, John, and Christina, the children of Christian II and Isabella of Austria at the Court of Savoy and their privacy while under the protection of Margaret of Austria. An examination is undertaken of the life and routine of the Danish princes, which is based on an analysis of the letters exchanged between Isabella of Austria, the mother of John, Dorothea, and Christina, and their aunt Margaret of Austria while she was looking after the princes from 1523 onwards. The correspondence analyzed is preserved in the Danish National Archives (Rigsarkivet) and was exchanged between 1523 and 1525. Furthermore, the insight provided by these written sources is complemented by an iconographic analysis of the portraits attributed to Jan Gossaert, as this artist met the princes in person, while his representations were inspired by the tradition of child portraiture circa 1500.
