This article examines the role that material belongings play in displacement processes. Following the evacuation of the housing complex Hannibal II in Dortmund (Germany), the displacement of its 753 tenants, and the conflicts that ensued over the belongings they were forced to leave behind, we ask how the governance of material belongings shapes processes and experiences of displacement. Through an approach that brings in dialogue the cultural and legal significance of material belongings, we focus on the practices governing relationships between subjects, things, and place in displacement processes. Drawing on interviews with tenants, the legal framework governing property and possessions, and the proceedings around the tenants' claims regarding their belongings, the findings disentangle a dual function of material belongings in displacement processes: First, they consider how belongings and their legal governance complicate the temporalities of displacement; second, they examine how the negotiation of the cultural significance of things has an impact on tenants' subjectivities. The paper concludes that in displacement processes, tenants' precarious claims to ownership over their stuff are, at the same time, voicing claims to social and spatial belonging that oppose broader domestic injustices. INTERSECTIONALITY , *SOCIAL stratification , *AFRICANA studies , *SOCIAL institutions , *AFRICAN diaspora , *RACE identity - Abstract
African and African diaspora scholars have made key contributions to contemporary understandings of inequality, intersectionality, institutions and 'development'. A recent major contribution to this debate is offered by Franklin Obeng-Odoom's Property, Institutions and Social Stratification in Africa (Cambridge University Press, 2020). Drawing on a wide range of literatures, but especially from traditions of Black radical economic thought that span the United States, the Caribbean and Africa, the book calls for intersectional perspectives to be brought to bear on classical institutionalist and stratification economics traditions, in order to rethink 'development economics' as we know it. Obeng-Odoom utilises these traditions to make sense of persistent and increasing intra- and inter-group inequalities in Africa and between Africa and the world, showing how classed, raced and gendered identities shape diverse political and economic experiences, including the access to property or employment opportunities. At the same time, Black wo*men economists and wo*men economists of Colour have made notable contributions to the themes addressed by Obeng-Odoom's book – an archive that deserves deep attention. Gathering a collective of feminist economists from and beyond Africa (Abena D. Oduro, Tanita J. Lewis, Lebohang Liepollo Pheko, Sara Stevano, Ingrid Kvangraven), this symposium paper develops a conversation around the themes of intersectionality and social stratification in Africa. BLACK studies , *PLAGIARISM , *SCHOLARSHIPS , *ONTOLOGY - Abstract
Recently, it has become a common notion that the revolutionary scholar should have a relationship of theft with the university, which draws from Fred Moten and Stefano Harney and others. This paper challenges this relationship as revolutionary by stating, relationships of theft already exist in the university as seen amongst cheaters, an embodiment that is always already deemed criminal in the university. This article examines theft as it takes place in the politics of plagiarism, and cheating as two case studies that demonstrate that theft itself requires the facilitation of anti-Black property logics. In the examination of both moments, plagiarism and cheating, it is evident that the university subject's relationship to property and ownership dictates which university subjects can steal and indeed force "mobility, and security" for themselves and their communities, and which university subjects and communities are perpetually stolen from, never fully having ownership over property. Assigning theft as a task only expands the role of the scholar, and by extension the university, both of which only exist to "violently extract" (Kim, 2017) the knowledge and resources that is to be stolen. PROPERTY rights , *FAMILY relations , *CAPITALISM , *INDUSTRIALIZATION , *POVERTY , *CHILDREN ,HISTORY of Quebec (Province) - Abstract
This article contributes to the study of family strategies during the transition to industrial capitalism in Quebec by examining a series of court documents, specifically, requests for authorization to sell minor children's property. These invaluable sources are especially useful in providing a firsthand perspective into the key moments experienced in families' trajectories, moments that entailed both enormous economic challenges and uncertainties in the search for a new future. Three objectives frame the study: first, to document the forms of precarity experienced by small, urban and rural property owners from 1880 to 1930; secondly, to underscore the family- and community-based relationships that have marked the course of these households; Finally, to see what the study results mean for the history of property-owning societies before the 1930s. Additionally, the article also shows that at the heart of private life, deep and brutal social inequalities were reproduced at the turn of the 20th century alongside the labour market and capitalist exploitation of the labour force. MATHEMATICS education , *NEOLIBERALISM , *HUMAN capital , *LEARNING , *STUDENTS , *CAPITALISM , *POSSIBILITY - Abstract
This article presents some reasons to rethink the teaching-learning of mathematics beyond the economicist project currently imposed by neoliberalism: the project that reduces the student to human capital and turns the school into a site for acquiring skills for the market economy. It suggests the importance of questioning the orientation of the knowledge offered by the school and the type of individual that the school forms in its daily work. The rethinking of the teachinglearning of mathematics outlined in this article is framed by a perspective in which mathematics education is conceived as a social, political, historical and cultural project for the formation of ethical and reflective individuals capable of critically positioning themselves in inclusive and supportive mathematical practices, and of imagining new possibilities of action and thought. This article argues that in the early twentieth-century evolution of citizenship in Canada, property persisted as a site wherein national belonging could be claimed and performed. It contextualizes a Japanese Canadian family's performances of property and protests at their wartime dispossession within the ideals that Canadian urban reformers, planners, and property theorists set out in the 1920s and 1930s. In doing so, this article reveals the unequal access to citizenship that property ownership afforded and thus introduces a complex portrait of hierarchies of membership and belonging in Canada at this time.

Cadastral maps, which are designed as comprehensive systems for recording and surveying land relations, are critical for making society legible and governable. However, critical cartography scholarship suggests that exercising power through maps is not straightforward: It is dependent on how maps are created and used during the mapping process. This paper examines cadastral mapping in Jigjiga, a multi-ethnic city in the Ethiopian Somali frontier where state authority over land and people have long been contested among ethnic Somali residents. This paper follows the ruling government's renewed attempt to establish land control through spatial planning based on document analysis and ethnographic fieldwork. It investigates how urban planners enclose the city's property landscape cartographically on land use maps and how land surveyors used these maps to georeference property. It demonstrates the critical role of land governance experts in navigating the simplified map and a complex property landscape on the ground. Cadastral mapping is instrumental for state territorialization and land commodification, integrating ethnic Somali property into the sedentary logic of the state. Rather than providing an account of how property is rendered legible, this paper highlights the incomplete and open-ended character of cadastral mapping in the constitution of private property regimes. 24. Common property regimes in participatory guarantee systems (PGS): Sharing responsibility in the collective management of organic labels

- Abstract
Participatory Guarantee Systems (PGS) are certification schemes, which offer a guarantee that labelled products comply with a related quality standard. They differ from the prevailing Third-Party Certification (TPC) because in a PGS, food system stakeholders are involved in the decision to award a label. With TPC, a single certification body takes the decision and certification costs may be too high to be borne by smallholder producers. According to PGS guidelines (IFOAM, 2019), shared rights to actively contribute to the inspections, participate in exclusion decisions for certification and to manage the contents of the standard are key features of a PGS. Producers have significantly more rights on the label in a PGS than in TPC. Each PGS has a specific governance structure, which reflects how they have adapted to their respective institutional environments. In this paper, we compare the distribution of power in TPC for the European organic label and four PGS, Nature & Progrès (N&P) in France; Ecovida Agroecology Network (EAN) in Brazil; Certified Naturally Grown (CNG) in the US; and Kilimo Hai (KH) in Tanzania. Drawing on the bundle of rights concept developed by Schlager and Ostrom (1992), we discuss how the common property regimes in PGS have potential for bridging the gap between organic labels and their users. We describe each governance structure, by drawing on data from in-depth interviews with key informants and on the analysis of framework documents and regulatory texts specific to each initiative. We show that the distribution of stakeholders' rights varies considerably between the different PGS. Similar to the commons, these differences can impact the label's legitimacy, the PGS members' involvement and mobilization, and the effectiveness of the rules relating to implementation and compliance.

[ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Humans operate in complex environments where social interactions require individuals to constantly attend to people and objects around them. Despite the complexity of these interactions from a visuomotor perspective, humans can engage and thrive in social settings. The purpose of the current study was to examine the simultaneous influence of multiple social cues (i.e., ownership and the presence of a coactor) on the processing of objects. Participants performed an object-based compatibility task in the presence and absence of a coacting confederate. Participants indicated whether pictures of mugs (that were either self-owned or unowned) were upright or inverted. The pictures appeared at one of 2 locations (a near or far location relative to the participant) on a computer screen laid flat on (parallel to) the tabletop. When present, the coactor stood on the opposite side of the screen/table. Analysis of response times (RTs) indicated that the processing of objects was influenced by the object's ownership status, the presence of the coactor, and where the object was located on the screen. Specifically, RTs for pictures of self-owned mugs were shorter than unowned mugs, but only when the pictures were located at the near location. Further, the presence of a confederate resulted in shorter RTs for pictures located at the near but not the far location. These findings suggest that when objects were placed at the far location, the additional social cues of ownership and social context did not influence visuomotor processing of the objects. POLITICAL philosophy , *CIVIL law , *SATISFACTION , *COMMON good , *BIOETHICS , *FIDUCIARY responsibility - Abstract
Although fiduciary relationships have a long tradition in Hammurabic, Jewish or Islamic codifications, they were especially conceived and instituted by Roman civil (private) law to normatively address asymmetrical interindividual relationships in which a settlor or beneficiary has an interest in the performance of a certain action, but does not have the experience, time or means to carry it out himself. Therefore, she needs a fiduciary to carry out that action, who does not necessarily have an interest in carrying it out to the satisfaction of the beneficiary. Since this is a problematic and potentially dangerous relationship for the beneficiary, both in private law and in democratic political relations, the fiduciary must be held accountable. That is why contemporary economics, law, bioethics and political philosophy have dealt with fiduciary relationships. In contrast, the fiduciary approach has been rare in the field of economics and society. A reflection on the interest of incorporating fiduciary analysis (in its empirical and normative dimensions) is proposed, illustrating it with the case of property. The necessary integration of the economic, social, legal and political dimensions in a fiduciary frame includes a reflection on the alleged fiduciary duty – and its correlative governance – to preserve the natural systems in which we live for the common good. WAQF , *PARTICIPATION - Abstract
This research paper focuses on the formula of decreased participation leading to ownership as one of the emerging contracts in Islamic jurisprudence, which is one of the investment methods developed by Islamic banking institutions that can contribute to the financing, investment and development of waqf-based properties. In this research, we identify the reality of decreasing participation, its rules and legal ruling, and the possibility of applying them to the development of the Algerian Awqaf on the grounds that Algeria possesses a significant number of Waqf properties, but most of them are not exploited in the right way, which prevents them from playing their full economic role. 3,3,3-trifluoroprop-1-ene (R1243zf) is a potential alternative refrigerant with low global warming potential and 26 saturated vapor pressure data and 128 vapor phase pvT data are presented in this paper. The vapor pressure data were obtained in the temperature range from (253 to 376) K and pressure range from (0.13 to 3.46) MPa. The vapor phase pvT data were measured using a Burnett apparatus for the temperature range from (253 to 368) K, pressure range from (0.11 to 2.89) MPa and density range from (0.05 to 1.82) mol dm–3. The standard experimental uncertainties were estimated as 5 mK and 0.5 kPa for temperature and pressure, respectively. The relative uncertainty in density is better than 0.12%. In addition, the present pvT data were correlated by a truncated virial equation of state with the density average absolute relative deviation of 0.05%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

CONDENSATION , *THERMOPHYSICAL properties , *HOMOGENEOUS nucleation , *MOLECULAR dynamics - Abstract
• Thermophysical properties and condensation process of R1233zd(E) were simulated. • Phase transition rate of R1233zd(E) increase as p sim increases or t sim decreases. • E vdw gives greatest contribution to e p change during phase change process. • R1233zd(E) has faster condensation rate than R1234ze(E), R1243zf and R1234yf. R1233zd(E) is one promising alternative refrigerant with excellent environmental-friendly performance. In this paper, the molecular dynamics simulation method was used to study the density, heat capacity and homogeneous condensation nucleation process of R1233zd(E) from a superheated state to different supercooled states aiming to provide information for its application. The higher condensation pressure and lower condensation temperature was found to be favorable to increase condensation rate of R1233zd(E). During the nucleation process, the molecular distribution of R1233zd(E) becomes uneven; meanwhile, the potential energy has a sharp drop which is mostly caused by the drop of van der Waals energy. The faster condensation rate of R1233zd(E) compared to other three HFOs R1234ze(E), R1243zf and R1234yf is helpful to improve refrigeration efficiency. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The ownership and exploitation of agricultural real estate in Algeria has been subject of political, ideological, and even economic influences , especially in the transitional phase from the socialist system to the capitalist system, which resulted in the adoption of a reclamation as a pattern of ownership and/or exploitation of this type of real estate, the latter has taken many forms, in the beginning what is known as the possession of agricultural real estate ownership according to the law n° 83/18 of 13/08/1983 which we will address in a first time. However, after the change of the general trend in Algeria which appeared in the constitution of 1989; especially with regard to approved view of ownership and the attempt to liberalize the exploitation of property; including agricultural real estate, it was promulgated the national property law and the real estate orientation law; in 1990, which established a new pattern of agricultural land exploitation, and here the matter is related to agricultural concession that is transferable and not transferable into a cession, which we will discuss in the second time., En Algérie, l’acquisition et l’exploitation du foncier agricole ; ont été soumise a plusieurs influence ; politique ; idéologique et même économique, surtout dans la phase de transition du système socialiste au système capitaliste, qui a conduit a l’adoption de la mise en valeur des terres agricoles comme model d’acquisition et/ou d’exploitation de ce genre de foncier, cette dernière a pris plusieurs formes, initialement il a été approuvé ce qu’on appelait l’accession à la propriété foncière agricole dans le cadre de la lois n° 83/18 du 13/08/1983, ce qu’on doit aborder en premier lieu.

- Abstract
This thesis examines the extent to which values and norms, articulated in the form of morality, ethics and law, determine the configuration of world order. This is done in three parts. Firstly, a critical reading of the most influential currents in international relations theory shows that global politics is riddled with axiological-normative issues, that some of these questions are similar to those of national politics while others are specific to this wider realm, that individual and collective actors retain a significant degree of autonomy in confronting these challenges, and that the study of this field is useful in helping decision-makers carry out informed choices. Second, an examination of practical reason based on the theory of communicative action proposed by Habermas and others clarifies and reformulates five basic concepts: value, norm, morality, ethics and law. Thirdly, this restructured conceptual repertoire is used to study a key issue in world politics: human rights. The study shows how a given set of values and norms is structured into increasingly convergent ethical conceptions that tend towards a regulative idea of universal morality, and how this set of ideas is articulated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The analysis then describes two main consequences of the adoption of the UDHR in 1948. Firstly, the Declaration became the main motivating and guiding factor for the human rights movement, one of the major social phenomena of the post-war period, in its intensive campaigning work within States and in world politics. Secondly, the content of the UDHR was widely codified in law, in the United Nations human rights system, the UN’s most elaborate legal regime, in similar regional frameworks in Africa, the Americas and Europe, and in the legal systems of most contemporary States, through their constitutions, legislation and judicial decisions. The study concludes by showing that, through the above-mentioned process, the values and norms, Doctorat en Philosophie, info:eu-repo/semantics/nonPublished

- Abstract
Algerian legislator has authorized the landowner to enjoy and dispose of his building as he wishes, provided that he does not violate the laws and regulations which oblige him to comply with certain constraints and conditions relating to both the public interest and to the private interests of individuals. Therefore, the law prohibited any infringement or abuse causing harm to others under penalty of liability. There are two types of liability of the landowner: one by fault; it is based on the general rules of negligent liability and the sanction of which involves compensation for the damage by way of compensation. The other liability comes out of the ordinary case in which the owner is liable without fault. This is when he causes unusual damage to others and for which the law involves compensation which can only be by the removal of the unusual damage. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
