Purpose: To evaluate the clinical survival and impact on oral health--related quality of life (OHRQoL) of immediate loading of implant-supported full-arch CAD/CAM--milled PMMA interim restorations. Materials and Methods: This was a practice-based prospective cohort study performed in a Portuguese dental clinic. Eleven patients received a total of 17 CAD/CAM fully implant-supported, screw-retained, full-arch restorations with milled PMMA and were followed up for 1 year. The primary outcome was prosthesis survival, determined with a modification of the California Dental Association score and a Kaplan-Meier survival function analysis. The secondary outcome was the patient quality of life, as defined by application of the OHIP-14-PT questionnaire and standardized effect size variation between two visits. Significance was set at 5%. Results: Survival probability at 12 months was 76%, complete fracture of the prosthesis occurred in 17.6% of the cases, and small fractures without lab involvement occurred in 5.9% of cases. There was a significant improvement in OHRQoL between visit 1 and visit 4. The mean difference and effect size for total OHIP-14-PT score were -32.91 ± 3.68 and 3.66 (95% CI -1.83 to -5.80) respectively (P < .001* Wilcoxon matched paired rank test). Purpose: To evaluate the published literature on tooth--tissue supported removable partial dentures (RPDs) and determine the attachment system that provides the best clinical outcome. Materials and Methods: A comprehensive search of studies published up to November 2021 was performed in the PubMed/MEDLINE, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library databases according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) criteria. The study protocol was approved and was registered in the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (PROSPERO: CRD42021268449). The PICO question was, "What is the best attachment system used in Kennedy class I and II removable partial dentures?" Results: The search identified 871 articles, of which 21 met the inclusion criteria. The evaluation period in the studies ranged from 3 to 282 months. A total of 1,357 patients were included, of which 526 used prostheses with attachments. The mini SG attachment (extracoronal) was the most commonly used attachment, and the survival rate ranged from 37% to 98.1% in 10 studies, with no significant differences between the systems. Among the 10 studies selected for quantitative analysis, the meta-analysis revealed an overall failure rate of 16.6% (95% CI: 10.4% to 25.4%) and heterogeneity of I² = 65.725 (q value: 26.258, P = .002). Conclusions: Clinical studies comparing different attachment systems for rehabilitation are lacking. Our findings suggest that attachment-retained RPDs have good retention and better esthetics than conventional RPDs, and the extracoronal attachment system is the most viable choice for treatment at the free end. Purpose: To compare the effect of taper, length, angle, and number of vertical axial walls on the retentive strength of a cemented crown on a partially customized hybrid abutment in the esthetic zone. Materials and Methods: A total of 35 metal copings were used and divided into two groups. One group had 30 copings cemented to their corresponding 8-degree tapered abutment with lengths from 3 to 8 mm, increasing in 1-mm increments (5 copings per length). The other group had the remaining 5 copings and consisted of a standardized metal coping that matched a hexagonal abutment with 3-mm vertical axial walls and the sequential removal of 1, 2, and 3 contiguous vertical axial walls. Dislodgment tests were performed for all copings in both groups. Maximum retentive forces were measured in retentive strength (kgF), with a conversion factor of 9.807 N = 1 kgF. Results: At each tapered abutment length, the retentive strength increased proportionally and was significantly different, ranging from 31.67 ± 4.10 kgF to 67.68 ± 11.22 kgF (F [5,24] = 20.46, P < .001). An unmodified hexagonal abutment demonstrated the highest retentive strength (70.15 ± 12.97 kgF). The sequential removal of 1, 2, and 3 contiguous vertical axial walls of the hexagonal abutment resulted in retentive strength values of 59.89 ± 10.06 kgF, 57.01 ± 9.62 kgF, and 55.99 ± 9.35 kgF, respectively, with no significant difference (P > .05) in strength. Conclusions: A partially customized abutment with vertical axial walls on one side and a profile reduction on the opposite side can provide comparable retention to cemented copings at one-third the length and at one-sixth the surface area of an 8-mm abutment with an 8-degree taper. Purpose: To evaluate the correspondence between output from a new artificial intelligence tool (AIT) and clinician evaluation regarding the immediate loading suitability of dental implants based on insertion torque curves recorded during implant placement in an in vitro test. The secondary aim was to analyze peak insertion torque (PIT) and variable torque work (VTW) values of the implants. Materials and Methods: The study was performed with four different densities of artificial bone blocks of solid rigid polyurethane without a cortical layer. Five types of implants with different macrogeometries were used. A total of 140 implants (7 implants of each type in the four polyurethane blocks) were inserted. Immediately after implant placement, the insertion torque curves were classified by the operator as suitable (S) or nonsuitable (NS) for immediate loading. The same curves were then analyzed by the new AIT, which classified them as belonging to the "YES" or "NO" class. For each implant, PIT and VTW values were also recorded. Results: The correspondence between clinician and AIT evaluation was 99.3%, with only one false negative reported by the algorithm analysis. The AIT was found to have a sensitivity of 98.95%, specificity of 100%, positive predictive value of 100%, and negative predictive value of 97.8%. Mean PIT of the whole sample was 34.19 ± 19.43 Ncm, while mean VTW was 2,266.89 ± 1,993.73 Ncm. Statistically significant differences were found between implant systems in the whole sample and according to density of the polyurethane block. Conclusions: The AIT showed a high level of accuracy in the prediction of immediate loading suitability of dental implants based on the provided insertion torque curves. All the implants used in the in vitro test achieved good levels of primary stability, except when inserted in the least-dense polyurethane block. Purpose: To compare the peri-implant bone loss of mandibular complete-arch implant-supported fixed prostheses (FPSs) supported by three and four implants and to correlate with the size of the horizontal and vertical distal cantilever at prosthesis placement (T1) and after 1 year (T2). Materials and Methods: A total of 72 external hexagon (EH) type implants were placed in 20 participants. Of these, 24 supported an FPS with three implants (G3I) and 48 with four implants (G4I). The mandibular implants were named 1, 2, 3, and 4 according to their location in the arch, in a clockwise direction. Digital periapical radiographs were taken at times T1 and T2 for analysis and measurement of peri-implant bone loss. The horizontal and vertical distal cantilevers were measured with a digital caliper and correlated with peri-implant bone loss. Results: The survival rate of implants in G3I was 91.66%, and in G4I it was 97.91%. The mean bone loss in G3I was 0.88 ± 0.89 mm, and in G4I it was 0.58 ± 0.78 mm (P = .225). There was no correlation between distal horizontal cantilevers and bone loss in the studied groups, with G3I being -0.25 (P = .197) and G4I -0.22 (P = .129). Larger vertical cantilevers of implants 1 (P = .018), 3 (P =.015), and 4 (P = .045) correlated with greater bone loss in G4I. Conclusions: The number of implants in an FPS did not influence peri-implant bone loss after 1 year of follow-up. Traditionally, metal-ceramics, metal-reinforced acrylics, and--more recently--full-contour or layered zirconia have been the materials of choice for definitive fixed implant-supported rehabilitations. Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) is commonly used in implant dentistry for the fabrication of implant-supported interim prostheses and as milled or 3D-printed prototypes. This article describes a novel protocol to prosthetically restore a completely edentulous patient following a digital workflow, with fixed, screw-retained, implant-supported prostheses fabricated from CAD/CAM milled PMMA, with no metal substructure. After a 2-year follow-up in terms of esthetics, phonetics, function, and biologic tissue response, the outcome remains functional and free of mechanical, biomechanical, or biologic complications. The aim of this article is to illustrate the feasibility of using milled PMMA as a viable definitive prosthetic material for the fixed implant rehabilitation of edentulous patients. Purpose: To evaluate the effect of continuous perioperative clopidogrel treatment on the osseointegration of titanium implants. Materials and Methods: A total of 32 New Zealand rabbits were randomly divided between two groups: a clopidogrel group (n = 16) and a control group (n = 16). For 1 week prior to the surgical placement of a titanium implant in their medial femoral condyle, rabbits in the clopidogrel group received 3 mg/kg of clopidogrel daily, and the control group received only the vehicle. This treatment was continued for another 6 weeks postoperatively. At 6 weeks, the rabbits were euthanized and postmortem histologic and histomorphometric evaluation of the implants was performed. Results: The surgical procedures and postoperative period were uneventful and well tolerated by all animals without any surgical wound dehiscence, signs of infection, or other complication. No implant failure was observed in any of the groups. Histomorphometric analysis showed that bone-to-implant contact (BIC) was 48.77% for the clopidogrel group and 34.65% for the control group, with statistically significant difference between them (P < .001). Moreover, clopidogrel group had significantly greater bone tissue density (40.52% vs 28.74%, respectively; P <.001) and mean trabecular thickness (284.7 μm vs 180.7 μm, respectively; P < .001) in proximity to the implant surface than the control group, while the mean trabecular number had no difference between groups (1.56 vs 1.60, respectively; P = .961). Conclusions: The present study showed that continuous clopidogrel treatment does not negatively affect osseointegration, but rather promotes it in terms of BIC and bone density around the titanium implants. Further studies on the effect of the P2Y12 receptor and its antagonists on peri-implant bone homeostasis may provide useful information or applications for long-term success of dental implant therapy. Purpose: To evaluate and compare the difference in retention between implant-supported restorations with and without surface modification of the implant abutments. Materials and Methods: A total of 30 patients with singletooth implants were restored with cement-retained (Multilink N, Ivoclar) restorations using titanium base abutments (Variobase, Straumann) and randomly assigned surface modifications. Group 1 used nonmodified abutments, group 2 used sandblasted abutments, and group 3 used sandblasted abutments followed by an application of metal primer. All patients were recalled for a baseline examination 6 months after crown placement. The pull-out strength and intergroup distribution of mean pull-out strength were assessed. To assess differences between the three groups, intergroup statistical comparison of continuous variables was done using one-way ANOVA with Tukey correction for multiple group comparisons. Results: The results of the intergroup mean pull-out strength distribution revealed that the distribution of mean ± SD pull-out strength in group 1, group 2, and group 3 were 220.79 ± 94.23, 488.64 ± 84.12, and 705.46 ± 112.75 Ncm, respectively. Conclusions: Sandblasting followed by the application of metal primer produced the highest retention of porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) crowns to titanium base abutments, followed by sandblasting alone, with the least retention being observed with no surface treatment. Purpose: To evaluate the soft tissue response to the placement of additively manufactured subperiosteal jaw implants (AMSJI) in the severely atrophic maxilla and to identify possible risk factors for soft tissue breakdown. Materials and Methods: An international multicenter study was conducted, and 15 men (mean age: 64.62 years; SD: ± 6.75) and 25 women (mean age: 65.24 years; SD: ± 6.77) with advanced maxillary jaw resorption (Cawood and Howell Class V or more) were included in this study. General patient data were collected, and all subjects were clinically examined. Inclusion criteria were patients who underwent bilateral AMSJI placement in the maxilla at least 1 year prior. Exclusion criteria were patients who did not have patient, surgeon, or dentist consent to participate in the study before their inclusion. Results: A total of 40 patients were enrolled, with a mean follow-up period of 917 days (SD: ± 306.89 days). Primary implant stability was achieved postoperatively in all cases, and all implants were loaded with a final prosthesis. At the time of the study, only 1 patient showed mobility (> 1 mm) of the bilateral AMSJI. Due to mucosal recession, exposure of the framework was seen in 26 patients (65%) and was mainly in the left (21.43% of 26) and right (18.57% of 26) midlateral region. A thin biotype and the presence of mucositis were found to be risk factors (P < .05). Although not significant, smokers had a risk of developing a recession that was nearly seven times (odds ratio: 6.88; P = .08) greater than that of nonsmokers. Conclusions: Twenty-six (65%) patients presented with a recession in one (or more) of the seven regions after oral rehabilitation with bilateral AMSJI placement. Several risk drivers were evaluated. Objectives: This systematic review aimed to search the literature for the answer to the following questions. In human studies: Does the osseodensification technique increase the resonance frequency analysis given in implant stability quotient value and the insertion torque value compared to the conventional technique? In animal studies: Does the osseodensification technique increase implant stability quotient, bone-to-implant contact, and bone area fraction occupancy values over the conventional technique? Data sources: A search forstudies was carried out in eight databases until August 2021. Out of the 447 publications found, 11 were included. Results: In human studies, osseodensification technique showed better results for implant stability quotient values with a summarized median difference of 8.57. As for secondary stability, there was no significant difference, with summarized median difference of 4.49 in favor of the osseodensification technique. In animal studies, all results were favorable to the osseo-densification technique. Regarding insertion torque, bone-to-implant contact, and bone area fraction occupancy between counterclockwise osseodensification technique vs conventional, the mean difference was 46.79 for insertion torque, 2.17 for bone-to-implant contact, and 2.11 for bone area fraction occupancy. High heterogeneity was observed between the studies. The risk of bias in humans was moderate in three studies and low in one; and in animal studies, four presented moderate risk, two low risk, and one high risk. The certainty of evidence ranged from low to moderate. Conclusion: The osseodensification technique showed improvement concerning the resonance frequency and the insertion torque value of implants in human studies. In addition, it increased the values of bone-to-implant contact, bone area fraction occupancy, and implantstability quotient in animal studies, when compared to the conventional technique. Joint absence in people with upper-limb-difference leads to compensatory motions. Such compensation has long been a topic of study, but typically only for a single object/user layout, which is unlikely to spatially generalize. We seek to understand how motion varies over a planar workspace for different target orientations and wrist mobility conditions. We therefore present a study that records arm and torso pose during grasping of 49 equally spaced cylindrical targets. Furthermore, we seek to validate the research practice of using wrist-immobilizing bypass sockets on able-bodied participants to simulate prostheses without wrists. Participants were 2 transradial amputees and 7 able-bodied individuals who conducted the study with and without wrist braces, generating 2450 trajectories. Heat-maps illustrate variation over the workspace in Mean Joint Angle, Range of Joint Motion and Distance Travelled by Body Segment. Results indicate that greater wrist restriction primarily exacerbated shoulder internal rotation and elbow flexion, not the trunk. We observed that bypass sockets do not fully simulate amputee behavior. Furthermore, amputee reaching with their intact limb is different to the reaching motion of normative participants, implying that transradial limb-difference affects both sides of the body. Differences in participant behavior were also observed between horizontal and vertical target orientations.

Purpose: To evaluate the effect of supraphysiologic administration of testosterone in an early and late model of implant osseointegration in rat tibiae. Materials and Methods: A total of 40 rats were randomly allocated into four groups (n = 10/group), which were divided according to the type of experiment and time of osseointegration: (1) vehicle (14 days), (2) testosterone (14 days), (3) vehicle (42 days), and (4) testosterone (42 days). Testosterone cypionate (7.5 mg/kg) administration started 4 weeks before implant placement, and the injections were performed daily until euthanasia. Machined-surface titanium implants (2.2 mm in diameter and 4 mm high) were placed bilaterally in the tibia of animals 28 days after the first testosterone injection. At days 14 and 42 after implant placement, euthanasia was performed and the tibiae were harvested to perform biomechanical evaluation and histomorphometric analysis of bone-to-implant contact (BIC%) and bone between the threads (BBT%). Results: There was no statistical difference in the removal torque of the implants between the groups treated with the vehicle (control group) or testosterone (P > .05). At 14 days of osseointegration, the BIC% and BBT% did not differ between vehicle or testosterone groups (P > .05), while at 42 days, both the BIC% and BBT% were significantly reduced by testosterone compared to the vehicle group (P < .05). Diode lasers are increasingly being utilized as an alternative to conventional soft tissue surgery. Diode lasers originally referred to wavelengths ranging from 810 to 980 nm, but a visible diode laser with a 445-nm wavelength has emerged as an additional wavelength for soft tissue surgery. The goal of this case series was to demonstrate the clinical results of both visible and nearinfrared (NIR) wavelengths when utilized for stage-two implant surgery. Ten patients with 23 implants were treated at Stony Brook University, Department of Periodontics and Endodontics and Faculty Practice, for implant uncovering using both visible and nonvisible (NIR) diode lasers. The uncovering was performed utilizing 445-, 970-, and 980-nm wavelengths at a power setting of 2 W in either continuous or pulsed modes. The fiberoptic tips were initiated using blue articulating paper. Either topical benzocaine or infiltration anesthesia was utilized prior to soft tissue removal with the initiated tip. All patients healed uneventfully without any postoperative complications. Visible and NIR diode lasers provide an alternative and safe method to uncover submerged implants at stage-two surgery. Purpose: To report the results of a 2020 international survey of the most commonly used materials and techniques for the fabrication of extraoral maxillofacial prosthetics and to assess the use of 3D technology.Materials and Methods: A 43-question survey was administered via Qualtrics to the members of the American Academy of Maxillofacial Prosthetics, the International Anaplastology Association, and the International Society of Maxillofacial Rehabilitation. The use of current 3D technology in the fabrication of maxillofacial prostheses, as well as barriers to care such as patient cost and insurance coverage, were also assessed.Results: A total of 134 respondents (13%) completed the survey; 96 (73%) reported that they were currently fabricating maxillofacial prostheses and were thus included in the survey. The majority of respondents reported currently using Silastic MDX4-4210 BioMedical Grade Elastomer (DuPont) with either Silastic Medical Adhesive Silicone Type A or Silastic MDX4-4210 crosslinker. Incorporating the use of current CAD/CAM technology was reported by a majority of respondents (58%; 45/77); however, a small cohort (33%, 15/45) reported they were "still experimenting how best to use technology." A total of 39 clinicians (49%) reported that facial prosthetics were most often paid for by the patient (fee for service), with the fee ranging from $10 to $5,500 USD.Conclusion: The results of this survey indicate that current CAD/CAM technology has been adopted and incorporated into the design and fabrication of maxillofacial prostheses. More research is needed to advance CAD/CAM technology as well as the physical and mechanical properties of materials in maxillofacial prosthetics and anaplastology clinical practice. Purpose: To assess if the implant-retained prostheses produced with laser-sintering technique present an accuracy and passive fit comparable to their milled counterpart. Materials and Methods: Two regular neck Straumann analogs were placed in a block of PMMA 15 mm apart and parallel to each other. The PMMA block was then scanned and two groups of cobalt-chromium, screw-retained, three-unit implant prostheses were fabricated using milling (control) and laser-sintering (test) techniques. The prostheses were then screwed on the PMMA block and the verFcal marginal gap between the prostheses and the analogs at the implant-abutment juncFon was measured twice, (1) when only one screw was Fghtened, and (2) when both screws were fully Fghtened. The average of each marginal gap measurement was compared to assess the difference in term of passive fit between the laser-sintered and the milled prostheses. Results: The mean marginal gap of the milled and the laser-sintered groups were 23.18 µm (SD = 6.2) and 23.71 µm (SD = 19.5) respecFvely. ABSTRACT This paper introduces a novel computational framework for evaluating above‐knee prostheses, addressing a major challenge in gait deviation studies: distinguishing between prosthesis‐specific and patient‐specific contributions to gait deviations. This innovative approach utilizes three separate computational models to quantify the changes in gait dynamics necessary to achieve a set of ideal gait kinematics across different prosthesis designs. The pilot study presented here employs a simple two‐dimensional swing‐phase model to conceptually demonstrate how the outcomes of this three‐model framework can assess the extent to which prosthesis design impacts a user's ability to replicate the dynamics of able‐bodied gait. Furthermore, this framework offers potential for optimizing passive prosthetic devices for individual patients, thereby reducing the need for real‐life experiments, clinic visits, and overcoming rehabilitation challenges. Background: Orthopedic surgeons use manual measurements, acetate templating, and dedicated software to determine the appropriate implant size for total knee arthroplasty (TKA). This study aimed to use deep learning (DL) to assist in deciding the femoral and tibial implant sizes without manual manipulation and to evaluate the clinical validity of the DL decision by comparing it with conventional manual procedures. Methods: Two types of DL were used to detect the femoral and tibial regions using the You Only Look Once algorithm model and to determine the implant size from the detected regions using convolutional neural network. An experienced surgeon predicted the implant size for 234 patient cases using manual procedures, and the DL model also predicted the implant sizes for the same cases. Results: The exact accuracies of the surgeon's template were 61.54% and 68.38% for predicting femoral and tibial implant sizes, respectively. Meanwhile, the proposed DL model reported exact accuracies of 89.32% and 90.60% for femoral and tibial implant sizes, respectively. The accuracy ± 1 levels of the surgeon and proposed DL model were 97.44% and 97.86%, respectively, for the femoral implant size and 98.72% for both the surgeon and proposed DL model for the tibial implant size. Conclusion: The observed differences and higher agreement levels achieved by the proposed DL model demonstrate its potential as a valuable tool in preoperative decision-making for TKA. Wrist function is a top priority for transradial amputees. However, the combined functional, biomechanical, and cognitive impact of using a powered prosthetic wrist is unclear. Here, we quantify task performance, compensatory movements, and cognitive load while three transradial amputees performed a modified Clothespin Relocation Task using two myoelectric prostheses with and without the wrists. The two myoelectric prostheses include a commercial prosthesis with a built-in powered wrist, and a newly developed inexpensive prosthetic wrist for research purposes, called the "Utah wrist", that can be adapted to work with various sockets and prostheses. For these three participants, task failure rate decreased significantly from 66% ± 12% without the wrist to 39% ± 9% with the Utah wrist. Compensatory forward leaning movements also decreased significantly, from 24.2° ± 2.5 without the wrist to 12.6° ± 1.0 with the Utah wrist, and from 23.6° ± 7.6 to 15.3° ± 7.2 with the commercial prosthesis with an integrated wrist. Compensatory leftward bending movements also significantly decreased, from 20.8° ± 8.6 to 12.3° ± 5.3, for the commercial with an integrated wrist. Importantly, simultaneous myoelectric control of either prosthetic wrist had no significant impact on cognitive load, as assessed by the NASA Task Load Index survey and a secondary detection response task. This work suggests that functional prosthetic wrists can improve dexterity and reduce compensation without significantly increasing cognitive effort. These results, and the introduction of a new inexpensive prosthetic wrist for research purposes, can aid future research and development and guide the prescription of upper-limb prostheses. Background: Patients with primary Bone Sarcoma and Giant Cell Tumors in the lower extremities often require major surgery involving tumor prostheses. The postoperative course for this patient group can be complex and influenced by various factors and challenges that demand careful nursing care. This study aims to identify challenges related to the nursing care of individuals with primary bone tumors following surgery for tumor prostheses in the lower extremities. Methods: A retrospective cohort study of 15 patients treated at Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen, Denmark, between November 5. 2016, and April 1. 2020 was conducted by medical record review, focusing on challenges related to postoperative nursing care. All patients with the surgery code "Bone Excision" were identified within the surgery booking system and screened for eligibility. Results: Patients experienced postoperative challenges such as severe pain, prolonged time to mobilization (mean: 4 days), and defecation (mean: 5 days). The mean length of stay at the Rigshospitalet was 13 days. Furthermore, eleven patients (73%) reported disrupted sleep and nausea. Conclusion: Patients undergoing tumor prosthesis surgery in the lower extremities face considerable postoperative challenges that contribute to a prolonged hospital stay. These challenges, including severe pain, delayed mobilization, and gastrointestinal issues, significantly impact recovery. The findings highlight the urgent need for targeted nursing interventions to address these issues effectively. Enhanced pain management protocols, early mobilization strategies, and comprehensive postoperative care plans are essential to improve patient outcomes and reduce the length of hospital stays. Background: To assess marginal bone loss and soft tissue health around two-implant mandibular overdenture retained with milled versus selective laser-melted cobalt chromium (Co-Cr) bars. Method: This research was set to be a parallel, triple-blinded, randomised controlled trial. Twenty completely edentulous patients received new conventional complete dentures according to conventional techniques. Two implants were placed at mandibular canine areas bilaterally, and patients were randomly allocated into two equal groups: the milled Co-Cr bar group and the selective laser melted (SLM) Co-Cr bar group. Marginal bone loss (MBL), modified plaque index (mPI), modified gingival index (mGI), and probing depth (PD) were evaluated at 0-month (baseline), 6-month, and 12-month follow-up visits. Repeated measures ANOVA test and Bonferroni's post-hoc test were used for parametric data as PD, while for non-parametric data as MBL, mGI, and mPI, Mann-Whitney U test and Friedman's test were used. A P-value ≤ 0.05 was set as the statistical level of significance. The study protocol was approved by the Faculty Research Ethics Committee at Minia University (636 4/10/2022). Registration for the clinical trial was made retrospectively on clinicaltrials.gov with ID NCT06401200 at 04/30/2024. Results: The follow-up period (one year) was completed without a dropout. Regarding MBL, no statistically significant difference was found between the two groups throughout the study. However, the milled group showed significantly increased MBL from 0- to 6-month follow up period. In both groups, mPI increased significantly from 0- to 6-months post-loading. On the other hand, no statistically significant difference between the two groups was found regarding mPI and mGI throughout the study follow-up periods. The PD was significantly lower in the milled compared to the SLM group at the 6- and 12-month follow up period. Conclusion: Two-implant mandibular overdenture retained with milled or SLM Co-Cr bar can provide an acceptable treatment option for completely edentulous patients regarding marginal bone loss and soft tissue outcomes. Objective: To assess a newly developed intraoral scan protocol in enhancing the accuracy of complete‐arch implant impressions. Materials and Methods: Four impression approaches were applied to the same maxillary edentulous model with 6 implants: (1) intraoral scan (IOS), (2) intraoral scan with scan aid (IOS‐SA), (3) calibrated intraoral scan protocol (CISP), and (4) conventional splinted open‐tray impression (CONV). Each approach was repeated 10 times, and a direct scan of the model with a desktop scanner was used as a reference model. The alignment of scans and the reference model was conducted by two methods: (a) aligning all scan bodies to evaluate the overall fit, and (b) aligning the first and second scan bodies to simulate the Sheffield fit test for passive fitting of multiple implant‐supported prostheses. Linear deviations from the reference model (trueness) and within each group (precision) were analyzed using Python scripts. Results: When aligned by all scan bodies, the CISP group exhibited comparable mean trueness (38.33 μm) and precision (45.97 μm) to the CONV group (44.30 and 47.92 μm respectively), both of which significantly outperformed the IOS group (86.82 and 83.17 μm, respectively). Furthermore, in the virtual Sheffield fit test, the CISP group achieved the highest levels of mean trueness at the end span (121.7 μm), making a linear deviation reduction of 36.7%, 60%, and 41.4% when compared to the CONV, the IOS, and the IOS‐SA groups, respectively. Moreover, the CISP group (104.3 μm) displayed a remarkable 65, 182, and 86 μm advantage in precision over the CONV, IOS, and IOS‐SA groups, respectively. Conclusion: CISP demonstrated comparable accuracy to the gold standard, the conventional splinted open‐tray impression. Furthermore, it excelled in the virtual passive fitting test. Complex bimaxillary edentulous rehabilitations require careful and thorough planning of aesthetic and functional details. The main purpose of this case report is to highlight the stages of diagnostic, planning and treatment of a 62-year-old patient with multiple edentulous teeth, involving the following specialties: family medicine, implantology, prosthetics, periodontology and orthodontics. The role of multidisciplinary management and digital planning is highlighted as one of the most important requirements for an individualized edentulous treatment. The treatment included several stages (odontal, endodontic treatments, tooth extractions, insertion of implants and implant-prosthetic rehabilitations at the level of the upper jaw and prosthetic works at the level of the mandible). Background: Cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) improves ventricular function, but a positive response to CRT is often limited due to left ventricular (LV) lead placement in a suboptimal position. Complex coronary venous anatomy can hinder the placement of an LV lead in the target vessel, leading to poor CRT response. Objective: To report experience with snare‐assisted LV lead delivery in CRT and compare outcomes with the conventional LV lead delivery. Methods: This is a single‐center retrospective case–control study of CRT implants between 2016 and 2021. Snare‐assisted lead delivery was performed in cases where conventional lead placement failed or when a preferred target vessel had anatomy amenable to the technique. Safety and outcomes were compared to conventional LV lead placement cases. Results: Among 180 CRT cases, 33 were snare‐assisted, and 147 were conventional LV lead placements. Median follow‐up was 924 days in the snare and 618.5 days in the control group. The lead placement was successful in 28/33 snare and 138/147 control cases. A mid‐vessel segment was attained in 89.3% of snare and 72.5% of control cases(p =.03). The apical position was more frequently observed in the control group (26.8% vs. 7.1%, p =.03). All‐cause mortality trended lower in the snare group (6.1%) compared to (17.1%) in the control group (p =.13). Objective: Dental implants placed in adolescent patients pose a challenge to restore and maintain an esthetic outcome over longer period of follow‐up. Maxillomandibular changes throughout adulthood may lead to complications such as implant infraocclusion and interproximal contact loss. This case report describes an alternate prosthetic treatment strategy for maxillary single implant placed in an adolescent patient in the esthetic zone with inappropriate implant axis and screw hole placement. Clinical considerations: With temporary restorations, the gingiva and soft tissues were shaped to imitate the emerging profile of the contralateral side. A zirconia screw‐retained abutment was customized as a copy‐mirror from the contralateral prepared tooth to mimic the exact shape and to avoid labiolingual over contour by computer‐aided design/computer‐assisted manufacture (CAD/CAM). The porcelain laminate veneer was bonded to the zirconia abutment. Porcelain adhesive approach was used instead of traditional principles of retention and resistance form of the abutment. Conclusions: A functional and esthetic outcome was achieved and maintained, while a minimally invasive procedure was implemented to use the malplaced implant instead of explanting it. Clinical significance: The present report illustrates the prosthetic management of a malpositioned dental implant placed 20 years ago, utilizing a minimally invasive digital protocol. Objectives: The objective of this study is to investigate the outcomes of clinically relevant laboratory studies regarding the cementation of implant‐supported restorations over ti‐bases. Materials and Methods: The present study has been conducted according to PRISMA statement. An electronic search was performed, including publications up to March 2024, to identify studies investigating the parameters affecting the cementation between ti‐bases and CAD/CAM prostheses. An assessment of the internal validity was performed, using a custom‐made risk of bias tool (QUIN). Results: From the included studies, 40.1% were reported on luting systems, 25% on ti‐base surface treatment, 25% on restoration surface, 21.8% on restoration material, and 18.7% on ti‐base height. The majority of the included studies were associated with a medium risk of bias. In the absence of micro‐retentive features, air‐abrasion of ti‐bases with a minimum height of 3.5 mm can be beneficial for restoration's retention. The bonding performance can vary not only between different bonding systems but also for different applications within the same system, based on a restoration's material and surface treatment as well as on ti‐base height and surface treatment. Conclusions: The height of the ti‐base seems to be the prevailing factor as it constitutes the prerequisite for other modifications of the bonding surfaces to have an advantageous effect. Since the parameters that can affect bonding performance between ti‐base and restoration can interact with each other, it is important for the clinician to focus on verified bonding protocols. Introduction: RefluxStop is an implantable device for laparoscopic surgical treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) to restore and maintain lower esophageal sphincter and angle of His anatomy without encircling and putting pressure on the food passageway, thereby avoiding side effects such as dysphagia and bloating seen with traditional fundoplication. This study reports the clinical outcomes with RefluxStop at 4 years following implantation of the device. Methods: A prospective, single arm, multicenter clinical investigation analyzing safety and effectiveness of the RefluxStop device in 50 patients with chronic GERD. Results: Available data are presented for 44 patients at 4 years with the addition of three patients at 3 years carried forward. At 4 years, median GERD-HRQL score was 90% reduced compared to baseline. Two patients (2/44) used regular daily proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) despite subsequent 24-h pH monitoring off PPI therapy yielding normal results. There were no device-related adverse events (AEs), esophageal dilations, migrations, or explants during the entire study period. AEs reported between 1 and 4 years were as follows: one subject with heartburn and a pathologic pH result with device positioned too low at surgery; one subject with dysphagia, thus, 46/47 patients reported no dysphagia-related AEs between years 1 and 4. Two patients (2/47) were dissatisfied with treatment despite normal 24-h pH monitoring, of whom one had manometry-verified dysmotility at 6 months, indicating dissatisfaction for reasons other than acid reflux. Conclusion: These results confirm the excellent and already published 1-year results as stable in the long-term, supporting the safety and effectiveness of the RefluxStop device in treating GERD for over 4 years. GERD-HRQL score, pH testing, and PPI usage indicate treatment success without dysphagia or gas-bloating and only minimal incidence of other AEs. Introduction: Stapling-assisted closure of pharyngeal mucosa during total laryngectomy was described in 1973.Few authors have demonstrated that this technique provides a faster and more reliable pharyngeal closure with ashorter operative period. However, the simultaneous placement of tracheoesophageal prostheses is quitechallenging and affects the patient's speech rehabilitation. Aim: We are reporting our novel concurrent tracheoesophageal prosthesis insertion technique in stapler-assistedtotal laryngectomy. Methods: A patient with locally advanced laryngeal cancer underwent total laryngectomy with stapler-assistedcloser and concurrent primary tracheoesophageal prosthesis. In a closed stapler-assisted reconstruction of theneopharynx, an inflate folye ballon was utilised to identify the ideal TEP puncture site. Results: The immediate postop course was uneventful, and the patient acquired fluent alaryngeal speech after thespeech rehabilitation. Conclusion: Our novel technique of concurrent tracheoesophageal prosthesis insertion in stapler-assisted totallaryngectomy is practically simple and shortens the operative time. Improper osteotomy during total knee arthroplasty (TKA) can lead to anterior femoral notching, which increases the risk of periprosthetic fractures due to stress concentration. One potential solution is the addition of an intramedullary stem to the femoral component. However, the optimal stem length remains unclear. In this study, we aimed to determine the optimal stem length using finite element models. Finite element models of femurs were developed with unstemmed prostheses and prostheses with stem lengths of 50, 75, and 100 mm. Under squat loading conditions, the von Mises stress at the notch and stress distribution on four transversal sections of the femur were analyzed. Additionally, micromotion of the prosthesis–bone interface was evaluated to assess initial stability. The unstemmed prosthesis exhibited a von Mises stress of 191.8 MPa at the notch, which decreased to 43.1, 8.8, and 23.5 MPa for stem lengths of 50, 75, and 100 mm, respectively. The stress reduction on four selected femoral transversal sections compared with the unstemmed prosthesis was 40.0%, 84.4%, and 67.1% for stem lengths of 50, 75, and 100 mm, respectively. Micromotion analysis showed a maximum of 118.8 μm for the unstemmed prosthesis, which decreased significantly with the application of stems, particularly at the anterior flange. Intramedullary stems effectively reduced stress concentration at the femoral notch. The 50‐mm stem length provided the optimal combination of reduced notch stress, minimized stress‐shielding effect, and decreased micromotion at the anterior flange. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: Examine the temporal trends in medical device implant procedures in the Australian population. Methods: We used data from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare from the financial years 2007–08 to 2021–22 and chose the most frequently performed medical device implant procedures. We estimated the annual change in volume of procedures and age-standardised rates by calculating the compound annual growth rate (CAGR), and used regression with the Newey–West robust variance estimator to examine whether there was a linear trend in the age-standardised rates for each procedure. Results: For procedures including cardiac pacemakers, heart valves, hip and knee arthroplasties, and intraocular lenses, the crude CAGR was over 3%. For the age-standardised rates, the CAGR was largest for cardiac pacemaker, followed by heart valve replacement and hip arthroplasty procedures. For some procedures, the growth was more than in the Australian population, including cardiac pacemakers (β = 1.00; 95% CI: 0.14–1.86), heart valve replacements (β = 0.41; 95% CI: 0.28–0.54), hip arthroplasty (β = 3.50; 95% CI: 1.61–5.38), and knee arthroplasty (β = 4.31; 95% CI: 0.54–8.09) procedures. The trend of standardised rates of procedures, including incisional hernia with mesh, breast implants, coronary stents, and cardiac defibrillators, grew at the same rate as the population, whereas the rate for gastric banding procedures decreased (β = −3.14; 95% CI: −4.92 to −1.34). Conclusion: The findings from the current study, showing a large increase in medical device implant procedures, will assist in future healthcare planning and efforts in post-market surveillance of safety of medical devices. Unlike previous studies, this study investigates a general population-level trend analysis of all major device implants using the most recent national-level database, covering all hospitals in Australia. Background: This systematic review and meta-analysis sought to compare the clinical outcomes after proximal humerus reconstruction with a reverse allograft-prosthetic composite (APC) versus reverse endoprosthesis. Methods: Per PRISMA guidelines, we queried PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane databases to identify articles reporting clinical outcomes of reverse APC or reverse endoprosthesis reconstruction of the proximal humerus for massive bone loss secondary to tumor, fracture, or failed arthroplasty. We compared postoperative range of motion, outcome scores, and the incidence of complications and revision surgery. Results: Of 259 unique articles, 18 articles were included (267 APC, 260 endoprosthesis). There were no significant differences between the APC and endoprosthesis cohort for postoperative forward elevation (P =.231), external rotation (P =.634), ASES score (P =.420), Constant score (P =.414), MSTS (P =.815), SST (P =.367), or VAS (P =.714). Rate of complications was 15% (31/213) in the APC cohort and 19% (27/144) in the endoprosthesis cohort. The rate of revision surgery was 12% after APC cohort and 7% after endoprosthesis. APC-specific complications included a 10% APC nonunion/malunion/resorption rate and 6% APC fracture/fragmentation rate. Discussion: Reverse APC and endoprosthesis are reasonable options for proximal humerus reconstruction. Background: Computed tomography (CT) based three-dimensional templating is increasingly being used to predict implant sizes in total knee arthroplasty (TKA). However, the existing data is heterogeneous, and the majority of studies lack adequate statistical power. This study investigated whether preoperative CT-based planning in robot-assisted TKA (RA-TKA) helps in predicting the accurate size of implant used. Methods: This is a single-center retrospective study of 632 consecutive RA-TKA surgeries. All surgeries were performed using a fully automatic Cuvis RA-TKA system. Cohen's Kappa (κ) coefficient was used to measure the level of agreement between the predicted and the final implant sizes. Results: A total of 632 knees were operated on 384 patients. A total of 136 unilateral cases whereas 248 patients had both knees operated on. For the tibial component, in 21.7% cases a bigger implant size was used while in 11.8% cases a smaller size was used. For the femoral component, in 5.1% cases a bigger implant size was used while in 4.9% cases a smaller size was used. The agreement between the predicted and actual implant sizes was moderate for the tibial component [κ = 0.56 (95% CI: 0.51 to 0.61); p < 0.001] and almost perfect for the femoral component [κ = 0.87 (95% CI: 0.84 to 0.90); p < 0.001]. Conclusion: This study suggests that planning of RA-TKA using a CT-based model can be valuable to surgeons in accurately predicting the component size for femur and to a lesser degree for tibia. The reconstruction of esophageal defects with restoring vocal functions is challenging. Major disadvantages of using a fasciocutaneous flap include the requirement for a long suture line for tubularization, the slow healing of mucosa‑skin anastomoses, and the necessity of using a voice prosthesis through a tracheoesophageal puncture. The transfer of the ileocolon flap is a totally autologous option for the simultaneous reconstruction of the esophagus and voice function. The ileocecal valve mechanism within the ileocolon flap obviates the need for the insertion of a voice prosthesis, and the terminal ileum acts as the voice tube which directs the air from the trachea to the neo‑esophagus. In this report, we describe in detail the surgical technique of the free ileocolon flap transfer for this indication, as well as modifications aimed at reducing complication rates. This study aimed to identify the ideal interimplant distance for optimum outcome on immediately loaded implant supported prosthesis. Hence this study was taken up to analyze the effect of varying interimplant distance on fracture resistance of implant supported provisional fixed dental prosthesis (FDP). A total of 24 bis-acrylate composite resin samples were prepared. Interimplant distance was present in the metal die for placement of dummy implants at distances of 14 mm, 21 mm, and 30 mm respectively. Wax-up for 3-unit, 4-unit, and 5-unit implant-supported provisional restoration was made. Silicone molds were used for making multiple interim prostheses using bis-acrylate composite material. All samples were subjected to fracture test in the universal testing machine with a crosshead speed of 1 mm/min. All samples were loaded with gradual force starting from 100 N until it fractured. The load was applied at the center of prosthesis. Data was analyzed by one-way analysis of variance and Bonferroni post hoc test. Mean fracture resistance of 3-unit provisional FDP at 14 mm of interimplant distance showed 1342.61 ± 179.15 N. Mean fracture resistance of 4-unit provisional FDP at 21 mm of interimplant distance showed 1420.44 ± 170.37 N. Mean fracture resistance of 5-unit provisional FDP at 30 mm of interimplant distance showed 791.61 ± 203.59 N. Both 14 mm and 21 mm of interimplant distance are suitable span lengths to be considered for the optimum outcome during immediately loading with implant-supported provisional restorations. Limitations of the study were that force application was static in nature and not dynamic and the arch form was not "U" shaped but longitudinal using Bis-Acryl material only with no cantilever. Future studies can be done to evaluate the fracture resistance of bis-acrylate material considering biomechanics and arch form of natural dentition. We invited individuals aged above 16 years with a congenital transverse reduction deficiency at and above the wrist born in Norway between 1970 and 2006 to complete the short version of the Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand Outcome Measure, the 5-Level EuroQoL-5-Dimension instrument, the RAND 36-Item Short Form Health Survey and a single-item questionnaire on arm function, appearance, pain and prosthesis wear. Of 154 eligible participants, 58 (38%) responded. Their scores were not different from the general population. All had been offered prostheses, and 56 (97%) had been fitted at a median age of 1 year (interquartile range 0–2.8). Of the participants, 37 (64%) were still prosthesis wearers, while 21 (36%) were non-wearers or using gripping devices only. Prosthesis wearers had higher levels of 'vitality' as assessed by the RAND-36 and rated their arm appearance higher, but there were no other score differences, indicating that prosthesis rejection is not associated with worse functional outcomes. Background: Surgical site infection (SSI) is a major problem following total hip arthroplasty (THA). This study investigated the impact of a standard intraoperative routine where the surgical team wears full-body exhaust suits (space suits) within a laminar airflow (LAF)-ventilated operating room (OR) on environmental contamination. Our primary objective was to identify potential modifiable intraoperative factors that could be better controlled to minimize SSI risk. Methods: We implemented an approach involving simultaneous and continuous air sampling throughout actual primary cementless THA procedures. This method concurrently monitored both airborne particle and microbial contamination levels from the time the patient entered the OR for surgery until extubation. Results: Airborne particulate and microbial contamination significantly increased during the first and second patient repositionings (postural changes) when the surgical team was not wearing space suits. However, their concentration exhibited inconsistent changes during the core surgical procedures, between incision and suturing, when the surgeons wore space suits. The microbial biosensor detected zero median microbes from draping to suturing. In contrast, the particle counter indicated a significant level of airborne particles during head resection and cup press-fitting, suggesting these procedures might generate more non-viable particles. Conclusions: This study identified a significant portion of airborne particles during the core surgical procedures as non-viable, suggesting that monitoring solely for particle counts might not suffice to estimate SSI risk. Our findings strongly support the use of space suits for surgeons to minimize intraoperative microbial contamination within LAF-ventilated ORs. Therefore, minimizing unnecessary traffic and movement of unsterile personnel is crucial. Additionally, since our data suggest increased contamination during patient repositioning, effectively controlling contamination during the first postural change plays a key role in maintaining low microbial contamination levels throughout the surgery. Movement is a central behavior of daily living; thus lost or compromised movement due to disease, injury, or amputation causes enormous loss of productivity and quality of life. While prosthetics have evolved enormously over the years, restoring natural sensorimotor (SM) control via a prosthesis is a difficult problem which neuroengineering has yet to solve. With a focus on upper limb prosthetics, this perspective article discusses the neurophysiology of motor control under healthy conditions and after amputation, the development of upper limb prostheses from early generations to current state-of-the art sensorimotor neuroprostheses, and how postinjury changes could complicate prosthetic control. There is an accepted variation in the financial cost of total knee arthroplasty (TKA) implants but it is not known whether this cost is reflected by the evidence in support of their use. A cost analysis study was carried out to determine the total cost of consumables of a TKA, and whether this was related to the supporting evidence and survivorship data. Intra-operative data for all unilateral, cemented, primary TKA over a 13 month period at a high-volume Orthopaedic Centre was collected. Level of evidence for each model was taken from the Orthopaedic Data Evaluation Panel (ODEP) website, and data from the UK National Joint Registry was used to assign survivorship (failure rates). Correlation was calculated using the Spearman rank correlation (r). A total of 1301 TKA were performed at the study centre during the data collection period. The mean cost of consumables for a TKA with patella resurfacing (n = 816) was £1969.08 (range of £1061.46 and £5143.89), and without resurfacing (n = 485) was £1846.62 (range of £1118.98 and £4196.81). There was a negative correlation between price of implant and ODEP rating (r = −0.47), with increasing level of evidence being associated with a lower cost. There was a positive correlation between price of implant and rate of implant failure at the1-, 3- and 5-year time-points (r = 0.55, 0.44, 0.28 respectively), with increasing cost being associated with a higher failure rate. Higher financial cost of TKA prostheses was associated with a weaker level of supporting evidence and a higher failure rate. The increased financial cost of new implants may be justified as more data and evidence becomes available to support an advantage in its use over currently established implants. The rate of proximal femur fractures (PFF) in the structure of musculoskeletal system injuries among all fractures of long bones ranges from 3.9 to 18%. According to Russian Ministry of Health 2020 data, the incidence of femoral fractures in Russia was up to 61 cases per 100,000 population (90,000 per year); and femoral neck fractures incidence was 4 times higher among people over 75 years of age. The choice of surgical technique and the fixator used depend on many factors, such as fracture location and its nature, the age of the patient, comorbidities, and the quality of bone tissue. Internal osteosynthesis, is the current treatment method of choice for extra-articular proximal femur fracture, but every treatment method has its limitations. a significant number of complications caused by technical errors, vicious union or nonunion with the subsequent development of false joints, the development of femoral head aseptic necrosis, which leads to coxarthrosis and persistent pain syndrome. To solve the above-described problems, it is necessary to use a conversion surgery - total hip replacement. long-term analysis of the results of total hip replacement in patients with proximal femur pseudarthrosis. The study was based on clinical and laboratory data analysis and on the results of total hip arthroplasty (THA) in 45 patients aged 56–84 years (mean age 68.3), including 32 (71.1%) women and 13 (26.1%) men. 12 patients initially received conservative treatment, and 33 patients received initial surgical treatment using various metal osteosynthesis procedures. The time from osteosynthesis or from the moment of injury to admission to the hospital for hip arthroplasty ranged from 12 to 30 months. All patients, before conversion arthroplasty and after discharge, were repeatedly invited to the clinical diagnostic department for a clinical examination and for assessment using rating scales. 3, 6 and 12 months after the surgery, pain syndrome and patient quality of life were assessed using the following questionnaire scales: Harris Hip Score, MOS SF-36, VAS. The maximum follow-up period ranged from 12 to 60 months. Based on the results obtained, patients of all 4 groups after conversion arthroplasty noted a significant quality of life improvement, a decrease in pain severity and functional results improvement. This was probably due to the presence of a severe limitation of range of movements in the joint, intense pain, absence of support ability of the extremity, as well as low operative efficacy expectations. In 1 (2%) patient, acute PJI was diagnosed in the early postoperative period, followed by sepsis and death. In 4 patients (9%) the result was considered unsatisfactory. At 1 year of follow-up after surgery, they complained of pain and claudication in the operated joint. 3 (6%) patients underwent reduction of dislocation. Strict adherence to the recommended treatment algorithm for patients with proximal femur pseudarthrosis made it possible to achieve good treatment results in 90% of surgically treated patients. An important step in the treatment of this patients is a careful preoperative planning with thorough assessment of bone tissue quality and muscles condition in the proximal femur area, allowing to choose the optimal endoprosthesis components. Objectives Materials and Methods Results Conclusion This study aimed to report the clinical and radiographic results of 2.8 mm two‐piece narrow diameter implant (NDI) supporting fixed restorations.Clinical and radiographic data of 54 NDIs in 32 patients were retrospectively assessed after 2 to 11 (mean 8.17) years of follow‐up. Clinical and radiographic measurements were taken. Survival rate, implant and prosthesis failure, pink aesthetic scores (PES), white aesthetic scores (WES), bleeding on probing (BOP), probing depth (PD), marginal bone loss (MBL), and mechanical and biological complications were evaluated.An implant failed during the follow‐up period, resulting in a cumulative survival rate of 98.15% at the implant level and 96.88% in the patient. The total mean values of PES and WES for 2.8 mm NDIs were 7.09 ± 1.15 (range: 3.33–9.00) and 7.42 ± 1.03 (range: 3.67–9.33). The prevalence of sites with positive BOP was 38.14 ± 29.77%. The mean PD value was 2.46 ± 0.62 mm. The average MBL was 1.15 ± 0.74 mm (range: 0.25–4.03 mm). No implant or abutment fracture was detected. A veneer chipping was present in one patient, and a loose crown appeared in another patient. Two implants (3.7%) and two patients (6.3%) were diagnosed with peri‐implantitis.Within the limitation of the study, the results indicate that the use of two‐piece 2.8 mm NDI for the fixed prosthetic rehabilitation of edentulous regions with reduced interdental and/or buccal–lingual width is viable. Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate the clinical and radiographic outcomes and to determine the survivorship of a high-flexion design total knee arthroplasty (TKA) prosthesis, the LOSPA knee system, over a follow-up period of 10–12 years. Methods: The study included 386 patients (503 TKAs) who were treated with TKA from 2011 to 2013 (follow-up period 10–12 years).The patients were assessed clinically using range of motion (ROM) of the knee, the Knee Society scoring system (KSS), and the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC). For radiographic analysis, the positions of femoral and tibial implants as α, β, γ, and δ angles, hip knee ankle (HKA) angle, and radiolucent lines were used. Kaplan–Meier survival analysis was performed. Results: Mean ROM improved significantly from the preoperative baseline of 117.3° to 126.5° at the final follow-up (p < 0.001). The mean KSS and WOMAC scores also both showed significant improvement after surgery (all p < 0.001). A non-progressive radiolucent line less than 2 mm was observed in 23 cases (4.7%). Nine patients underwent revision surgery on the knee during the follow-up period. Revision surgery was performed on four patients due to aseptic loosening, three patients due to infection, one patient due to ankylosis, and one patient due to instability. When the endpoint of survival was the entire surgical cases, the survival rate was 96.2%. The survival rate, with revision for any reason as the endpoint, was 97.2%, and 97.8% for aseptic causes. Conclusions: The LOSPA knee system, a high-flexion design total knee prosthesis, showed excellent long-term survivorship and improvements in clinical outcomes at 10- to 12-year follow-up. However, dental literature lacks on a classification of these implant scanning techniques. Implant scanning techniques aim is to record the 3‐dimensional position of the implants being scanned, while implant scanning workflows require additional scans to record all the information needed for designing an implant prosthesis. This additional information includes soft tissue information, tooth position, antagonist arch, and maxillomandibular relationship.There are five complete‐arch implant scanning techniques captured by using IOSs: non‐splinting, non‐calibrated splinting, calibrated implant scan bodies, calibrated frameworks, and reverse impression methods. The digital workflow varies depending on the implant scanning technique selected.The understanding of the varying implant scanning techniques and the main differences among them may ease the decision criteria for recording digital implant scans by using intraoral scanners. Purpose Materials and methods Results Conclusion To evaluate the mid‐term clinical and radiographic results of immediate fixed full‐arch prosthesis supported by two anterior axial and two posterior trans‐crestally placed tilted implants in patients with severely atrophic posterior maxilla.Patients with posterior maxillary ridge less than 4 mm high and 3 mm wide were rehabilitated with an immediate fixed provisional prosthesis supported by two anterior axially placed and two trans‐crestal posterior tilted implants within 3 h after implant surgery. The final prosthesis, consisting of a CAD‐CAM titanium framework and composite teeth was delivered 6 months later. Patients were scheduled for follow‐up visits every 6 months to assess clinical and radiological parameters. Patients' satisfaction was assessed by a questionnaire up to 5 years.From April 2008 to May 2017, 56 implants (28 axial and 28 tilted) were inserted in 14 subjects (eight female and six male). The average bone loss for the anterior axial implants was 0.99 ± 0.19 mm at 1 year (n = 28 implants), 1.37 ± 0.31 mm at 5 years (n = 28), and 2.05 ± 0.32 mm at 10 years (n = 14). Only for three implants in two subjects the marginal bone loss was higher than 2 mm after 60 months. No implant was lost, and no prosthetic failure occurred after a mean follow‐up of 125 months (range 79–186 months), leading to 100% implant and prosthesis survival rates. The upper 95% confidence limit of the failure rate was 23% and 6% at patient and implant level, respectively. High level of satisfaction was reported at 5‐year follow‐up.Wider sample sizes will be required to determine whether the presented technique is a reliable treatment option for the immediate rehabilitation of the atrophic maxilla. This study aimed to investigate the application of the cup‐on‐cup technique in revision total hip arthroplasty (THA) and report clinical and radiographic outcomes from a series of case follow‐ups. Retrospective analysis of 10 patients who underwent acetabular prosthesis revision with cup‐on‐cup technique. According to the Paprosky classification of acetabular bone defects, there were 2 cases of type II C, 3 cases of type III A, and 5 cases of type III B. The average follow‐up was 54.8 ± 5.1 months, and the Harris score of the hip joint increased from 37.0 ± 9.9 preoperatively to 80.5 ± 3.1 postoperatively at the final follow‐up (p < 0.001). Comparing the surgical side's hip center of rotation (COR) to the contralateral side, the preoperative average upward displacement was 33.8 ± 15.0 mm, while the postoperative average upward displacement was 0.2 ± 3.3 mm (p < 0.001). Similarly, the preoperative average inward displacement was 9.1 ± 5.1 mm, while the postoperative average outward displacement was 1.8 ± 1.6 mm (p < 0.001). There was no significant difference (p = 0.71) between the average density values of the contralateral and surgical sides at the final follow‐up, which were 127.4 ± 13.7 and 125.0 ± 14.8, respectively. During the follow‐up period, all patients achieved satisfactory radiographic outcomes, and no prosthetic loosening was observed. Wrist mobility contributes significantly to the execution of upper limb motor tasks. Despite this, current prosthetic wrists are far less advanced than other artificial joints. Typically, prosthetic wrists offer limited degrees of freedom, if any, which forces users to execute compensatory movements during task performance. This addition increases weight and complexity, two unwelcome factors in upper limb prostheses. This article presents the design of a 3-degree-of-freedom friction-lockable prosthetic wrist actuated by a single motor. The design features adaptable behavior when unlocked, promoting a gentle interaction with the environment, and enables users to adjust the hand configuration during pre-grasping phases. The proposed system was tested, combined with a hand prosthesis, and compared to a commercial rotational wrist during the execution of functional movements. Experiments involved nine able-bodied subjects and one prosthesis user. Participants also performed the experiments with their biological wrist (the intact wrist for the prosthesis user) as a control. Results showed that the lockable wrist was used actively 20% more often than the commercial solution without compromising users' execution time. Interaction tests reveal that compensatory movements are reduced when using the proposed design, resulting in closer resemblance to the control wrist's performance. The average satisfaction and usability scores were significantly higher for the proposed wrist, indicating its potential acceptance. Finally, the system was validated in a set of activities of daily living performed by the prosthesis user. This study aimed to measure the fracture strengths and hardness of final restorative milled and 3D-printed materials and evaluate the appropriate crown thickness for their clinical use for permanent prosthesis. One type of milled material (group M) and two types of 3D-printed materials (groups P1 and P2) were used. Their crown thickness was set to 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5 mm for each group, and the fracture strength was measured. Vickers hardness was measured and analyzed to confirm the hardness of each material. Scanning electron microscopy was taken to observe the surface changes of the 3D-printed materials under loads of 900 and 1500 N. With increased thickness, the fracture strength significantly increased for group M but significantly decreased for group P1. For group P2, the fracture strengths for the thicknesses of 0.5 mm and 1.5 mm significantly differed, but that for 1.0 mm did not differ from those for other thicknesses. The hardness of group M was significantly higher than that of groups P1 and P2. For all thicknesses, the fracture strength was higher than the average occlusal force for all materials; however, an appropriate crown thickness is required depending on the material and component. Purpose: Use of a lower limb prosthesis generally requires increased cognitive effort to compensate for missing motor and sensory inputs. This study sought to examine how lower limb prosthesis users perceive paying attention to their prosthesis(es) in daily life. Materials and methods: Focus groups with lower limb prosthesis users were conducted virtually using semi-structured questions. Verbatim transcripts were excerpted, coded, and reconciled. Inductive thematic analysis was undertaken to identify experiences shared by participants. Results: Five themes emerged from five focus groups conducted with thirty individuals: Paying attention to my prosthesis is just what I have to do; I pay attention to how my prosthetic socket fits and feels every day; I pay attention because I don't want to fall; I pay attention because I have to learn to do things in a new way; and If I can trust that my prosthesis will do what I want, I can pay less attention to it. Conclusions: Prosthetic attention, including both background and foreground attention, is a shared experience among lower limb prosthesis users. The amount and frequency of prosthetic attention fluctuates throughout the day and changes over time. Measuring attention could inform the evaluation and prescription of technology intended to reduce cognitive effort. IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATION: Walking or performing mobility tasks with a prosthesis requires increased attention and may limit the cognitive resources available for other important activities. Lower limb prosthesis users report paying attention to their prosthesis(ses) to avoid falling, to maintain the fit of their prosthetic socket, and to learn to complete mobility tasks with a prosthesis. Clinicians should discuss prosthetic attention with new prosthesis users and explain how it is expected to decrease over time.
