5. Investigations on application of curve fitting in power system inertia estimation.

Abstract

As the share of renewable energy sources in the power system keeps growing, a new issue with frequency stability – diminishing and changing inertia – has emerged. Estimating power system inertia has received a lot of attention lately in order to market design of synthetic inertia as an additional service and implement timely corrective steps for robust frequency control. Curve fitting technique has emerged as one of the promising techniques for estimation of power system inertia, however, many challenging aspects need to be addressed for its practical applications. This study aims to systematically assess the effectiveness of the curve fitting method under a range of operational parameters and conditions, such as the curve fitting order, the length of data to be used for curve fitting after an event begins, and the length of the moving average filter applied to the frequency data to remove oscillatory and noise from the frequency transient. The simulation studies have been performed on DIgSILENT and MATLAB platforms. The results show that very high and very low order curve fitting results are high errors and the 5th order model with mean error in estimated value of inertia less than 1% has outperformed others. The analysis on various window width of moving average filter found that increasing the window width results in more error. For IEEE-9 bus system, a filter up to 850 ms width has a mean percentage error below 1%. The analysis also revealed that the duration of the data used for curve fitting is not significant. For variation of the duration of the data used for the curve fitting from 50 ms to 500 ms, the estimated inertia values are found to be in a close range of 2.4881 s to 2.5262 s, for the single machine system with H = 2.5 s. Abstract

Efficient syntheses of some new substituted pyrazoline derivatives linked to substituted benzimidazole scaffold were performed by multistep reaction sequences. All the synthesized compounds were characterized using elemental analysis and spectral studies (IR, 1D/2D NMR techniques and mass spectrometry). The synthesized compounds were screened for their antimicrobial activity against selected Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, and fungi strain. The compounds with halo substituted phenyl group at C5 of the 1-phenyl pyrazoline ring (15, 16 and 17) showed significant antibacterial activity. Among the screened compounds, 17 showed most potent inhibitory activity (MIC = 64 μg mL-1) against a bacterial strain. The tested compounds were found to be almost inactive against the fungal strain C. albicans, apart from pyrazoline-1-carbothiomide 21, which was moderately active.

Abstract

This paper proposes the design of a tilted integral derivative controller for non-integer order plus time delay processes. The gains of the TID controller are designed based on the frequency domain approach by specifying frequency domain parameters. The proposed method provides flexibility to design the controller based on application requirements by selecting frequency-domain parameters. To analyze the efficacy of the proposed methodology, step response characteristics and different performance indices are considered. The proposed method is carried out on various examples under variation of tilt component and compared with the various approaches available in the literature. Load disturbance analysis is performed on controllers designed by proposed, existing methods to analyze the sensitivity. Also, the offered performance is validated on a real-time temperature control setup, and its performance is compared with different techniques under various situations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Consumer decision-making process varies with the type of buying decision.There are great differences between buying a toothpaste brand, a tennis racket, a personal computer and a new car. Complex and expensive purchases are likely to involve more buyer deliberation and more participation. Usually evaluating consumer behavior goes afar from advertising and marketing concepts to connect consumers and to understand their behaviors,motivations and sincere needs. Further consumer behavior is individually influenced by physical and social environment where one has to assume his or her perception on product,brand, service, or company. However, they may purchase any products as a result of their moods and ambiance. Most of the time consumer feels secure when the products are satisfying their needs surround to society and environment that one lives and communicates easily with its demographic factors. In this particular study, the main purpose is to understand the demographic behavior of consumer towards selected brands of toothpaste. Here the researcher randomly selected 485 respondents from Berhampur city of Odisha state and adopted descriptive research design. The study provides the association between the buying behaviors of consumers towards selected brands of toothpaste with respect to their demographic factors. Further, the data has been analyzed by one way ANOVAs and results interpreted.

Abstract

Next-generation technologies in the development of energy storage devices are the need of current forefront research to surmount the depletion of fossils. The supercapacitor is one of the most promising energy storage devices with fast charging-discharging within second and exhibit excellent cyclic stability owing to their high power density with high mechanical compliance making them suitable electronic devices as power back-ups for stretchable electronic devices. The numerous options have been explored to increase the functionality of electrode or finding suitable and reliable electrolyte for high energy density and power density. Although it is a challenge for the scientific community and R&D sector to find the appropriate material/electrolyte for the development of supercapacitor. Under these circumstances, the two dimensional (2D) materials including quasi graphene, MXene and transition metal dichalcogenides owing high electrochemical performances attract immense interest towards the supercapacitors. These materials under the virtue of its unique physical and chemical behaviour owing to excellent electrical and mechanical properties with high surface area are well suited for supercapacitor applications. In this review, we briefly present current evolution, comparison of methods and materials in high range, a brief discussion on future directions, challenges and opportunities in the development of electrode material for supercapacitor. Abstract

In this paper, a novel contrast enhancement technique for contrast enhancement of a low-contrast satellite image has been proposed based on the singular value decomposition (SVD) and discrete cosine transform (DCT). The singular value matrix represents the intensity information of the given image and any change on the singular values change the intensity of the input image. The proposed technique converts the image into the SVD-DCT domain and after normalizing the singular value matrix; the enhanced image is reconstructed by using inverse DCT. The visual and quantitative results suggest that the proposed SVD-DCT method clearly shows the increased efficiency and flexibility of the proposed method over the exiting methods such as Linear Contrast Stretching technique, GHE technique, DWT-SVD technique, DWT technique, Decorrelation Stretching technique, Gamma Correction method based techniques.

44. Process and joint quality of ultrasonic vibration enhanced friction stir lap welding

Abstract

ABSTRACTIn order to improve the process effectiveness and joint quality, ultrasonic vibrations were integrated with friction stir lap welding. Effect of ultrasonic exertion on the process and joint quality of AA 6061-T6 were investigated. Upon ultrasonic exertion, joints owned larger effective lap width, shorter hooks and improved strength. Weld fracture mode changed from a ductile–brittle mixed mode to a more ductile mode while the fracture path shifted from lap interface to beyond the stir zone. Material flow and interface defects were characterised using lap welded dissimilar aluminium alloy joints. Ultrasonic vibration improved the material flow and reduced the interfacial defects. Variations in failure load of joints were found in accordance with the variations in material flow and interfacial defects.
