Background: A growing body of literature shows relationships between behavioral problems and pragmatic abilities in children with neurodevelopmental disorders. However, the link between pragmatic skills, school well-being and psychological health in typically developing children is still under explored. The present study was aimed at an analysis of the relationships between well-being, behavioral problems, and pragmatics in Italian children from the general population. Methods: The sample included sixty typically developing children, their mothers, and their teachers. The mothers completed the Childrens Communication Checklist, second edition, the Questionnaire on School Well-being and the Child Behavior Checklist, questionnaires that evaluate childrens pragmatic abilities, school well-being, and psychopathological symptoms, respectively. The teachers completed the Questionnaire on School Well-being. Results: Close relationships between pragmatic abilities and school well-being were found. In particular, according to both mothers and teachers, Stereotyped language and Use of context were the two pragmatic variables most strongly associated with school well-being. Pragmatic abilities were also linked to externalizing and internalizing symptoms and with specific behavioural problems such as social and attentional problems. Conclusions: This study sheds light on the close relationships between pragmatic abilities and school well-being and psychological health in typically developing children. We discuss the relevance of focusing attention on early pragmatic competences in children and the importance of considering the school as a crucial setting for psychological assessment and interventions., Mediterranean Journal of Clinical Psychology, Vol 9, No 3 (2021)

- Abstract
Background: Among asymptomatic patients with severe carotid artery stenosis but no recent stroke or transient cerebral ischaemia, either carotid artery stenting (CAS) or carotid endarterectomy (CEA) can restore patency and reduce long-term stroke risks. However, from recent national registry data, each option causes about 1% procedural risk of disabling stroke or death. Comparison of their long-term protective effects requires large-scale randomised evidence. Methods: ACST-2 is an international multicentre randomised trial of CAS versus CEA among asymptomatic patients with severe stenosis thought to require intervention, interpreted with all other relevant trials. Patients were eligible if they had severe unilateral or bilateral carotid artery stenosis and both doctor and patient agreed that a carotid procedure should be undertaken, but they were substantially uncertain which one to choose. Patients were randomly allocated to CAS or CEA and followed up at 1 month and then annually, for a mean 5 years. Procedural events were those within 30 days of the intervention. Intention-to-treat analyses are provided. Analyses including procedural hazards use tabular methods. Analyses and meta-analyses of non-procedural strokes use Kaplan-Meier and log-rank methods. The trial is registered with the ISRCTN registry, ISRCTN21144362. Findings: Between Jan 15, 2008, and Dec 31, 2020, 3625 patients in 130 centres were randomly allocated, 1811 to CAS and 1814 to CEA, with good compliance, good medical therapy and a mean 5 years of follow-up. Overall, 1% had disabling stroke or death procedurally (15 allocated to CAS and 18 to CEA) and 2% had non-disabling procedural stroke (48 allocated to CAS and 29 to CEA). Kaplan-Meier estimates of 5-year non-procedural stroke were 2·5% in each group for fatal or disabling stroke, and 5·3% with CAS versus 4·5% with CEA for any stroke (rate ratio [RR] 1·16, 95% CI 0·86–1·57; p=0·33). Combining RRs for any non-procedural stroke in all CAS versus CEA

A Working Group coordinated by the Italian National Institute of Health (Istituto Superiore di Sanita) and the National Workers Compensation Authority (Istituto Nazionale per l’Assicurazione contro gli Infortuni sul Lavoro, INAIL) and consisting of 11 Italian scientific/professional societies involved in the fluoroscopically guided interventional practices has been established to define recommendations for the optimization of patients and staff radiation protection in interventional radiology. A summary of these recommendations is here reported. A multidisciplinary approach was used to establish the Working Group by involving radiologists, interventional radiologists, neuroradiologists, interventional cardiologists, occupational health specialists, medical physicists, radiation protection experts, radiographers and nurses. The Group operated as a “Consensus Conference”. Three main topics have been addressed: patient radiation protection (summarized in ten “golden rules”); staff radiation protection (summarized in ten “golden rules”); and education/training of interventional radiology professionals. In the “golden rules”, practical and operational recommendations were provided to help the professionals in optimizing dose delivered to patients and reducing their own exposure. Operative indications dealt also with continuing education and training, and recommendations on professional accreditation and certification. The “Consensus Conference” was the methodology adopted for the development of these recommendations. Involvement of all professionals is a winning approach to improve practical implementation of the recommendations, thus getting a real impact on the optimization of the interventional radiology practices.

Southern Italy ,Industrial policy ,Regional policy - Abstract
This paper analyses Italian industrial policy patterns over the last years, characterized by the economic and financial crisis and its effects. In the first part of the paper, new international trends of economic policies, leading to a renewed central position of industrial policy, are considered. Starting from these reflections, a survey of the measures implemented in some advanced countries - i.e. Germany, France, United Kingdom and United States - is carried out (par. 2). In the second part, recent dynamics of public interventions in favour of Italian businesses are evaluated, in the light of the serious structural problems featuring our productive system, in particular referring to the two big macro-areas of our Country - the Mezzogiorno and Central-Northern Italy (par. 3 and 4). In the final part of the paper some policy recommendations are presented (par. 5). Besides the need of quick interventions through the strengthening of some of the most effective operating instruments, the demand for a medium and long-term industrial policy strategy is put forward, identifying the guidelines necessary for a competitive repositioning of the productive system. Such a strategy has to be differentiated at a territorial level, to take the particular structural characteristics and the higher deficits of Southern manufacturers in consideration. Finally, it is necessary to support such strategy with a regional policy, Sothern Italy oriented, aimed at promoting the development of productive system "tout court", thus opposing the processes of industrial desertification triggered by the crisis.

Objectives: ACST-2 is currently the largest trial ever conducted to compare carotid artery stenting (CAS) with carotid endarterectomy (CEA) in patients with severe asymptomatic carotid stenosis requiring revascularization. Methods: Patients are entered into ACST-2 when revascularization is felt to be clearly indicated, when CEA and CAS are both possible, but where there is substantial uncertainty as to which is most appropriate. Trial surgeons and interventionalists are expected to use their usual techniques and CE-approved devices. We report baseline characteristics and blinded combined interim results for 30-day mortality and major morbidity for 986 patients in the ongoing trial up to September 2012. Results: A total of 986 patients (687 men, 299 women), mean age 68.7 years (SD ± 8.1) were randomized equally to CEA or CAS. Most (96%) had ipsilateral stenosis of 70-99% (median 80%) with contralateral stenoses of 50-99% in 30% and contralateral occlusion in 8%. Patients were on appropriate medical treatment. For 691 patients undergoing intervention with at least 1-month follow-up and Rankin scoring at 6 months for any stroke, the overall serious cardiovascular event rate of periprocedural (within 30 days) disabling stroke, fatal myocardial infarction, and death at 30 days was 1.0%. Conclusions: Early ACST-2 results suggest contemporary carotid intervention for asymptomatic stenosis has a low risk of serious morbidity and mortality, on par with other recent trials. The trial continues to recruit, to monitor periprocedural events and all types of stroke, aiming to randomize up to 5,000 patients to determine any differential outcomes between interventions. This paper provides a first reading of the macroeconomic data and the main social indicators taken from the SVIMEZ volume 150 anni di statistiche italiane: Nord e Sud. 1861-2011, Il Mulino, 2011. Divided into three parts, the first one aims at rebuilding long-term trends in 150 years, in which the creation and persistence of the big question of territorial gap is highlighted, although it does not represent an unchanging feature of the Italian history - because of the nearly level playing field and the presence of a long convergence period from the post-World War II to the 70's crisis. The analysis of such a gap - and the consideration of development factors and conditions as well - certainly does not contradict the incredible path to growth experienced by the Country as a whole in its 150 years of unitary history, in which also Southern regions legitimately took part. As it is clear in the second part of this paper, changes occurred in this area have dramatically affected both the economic structure and, especially, the social conditions of its inhabitants. Finally, in the third part, we attempt to discuss the role of policies in the evolution of such a gap, trying to highlight how economic and social dynamics, as well as divergence and convergence processes are not at all independent of the choices - made or not - of national economic policy and regional policy for development.

The severe recession that hit global economy fell heavily on southern economy, already tried by a significant slowdown and a development gap widening with the rest of Italy. Since the beginning of 2000s until the crisis arrival, South Italy met with growth rates halved in comparison with Centre-North Italy. As a result of 2008 and 2009 recession, Southern GDP came back to ten years earlier, as an absolute value. In the Republican history, a so long breakdown of the process of growth and convergence with «strong» areas had never happened. Employment data confirm the clear advance of such a deteriorating process in the Mezzogiorno. In fact, by mid 2010, one person out of two is out of regular labour market: in terms of absolute values, it means that seven million men and women have off-the books or temporary jobs. In particular, industry has serious difficulties, with a 100.000 units drop in employment, from 2008 to 2010. Hence, there has been a further decreasing of the industrialization rate of this area, already being quite lower than the rest of Italy. According to the authors, economy development in the Mezzogiorno has to rely on new development sectors, such as research and innovation, renewable energies and housing regeneration, as well as it is urgent to realize big transport infrastructures, which would require 49 billion - 11 billion already available and almost 38 to be raised. Finally, this paper recalls the need for a «Conference of Southern Regions» in order to rebuild the general interest of this macro-area by more profitable and effective collaborations between Southern Regions and between them and central government.

Economic Crisis, Competitiveness, Policy and Governance, Public Spending - Abstract
Some months after the presentation of 2009 SVIMEZ's Annual Report on Mezzogiorno's economy, the analysis it proposes shows the dramatic effects of crisis in the South of Italy. Despite expectations, it was unavoidable since Mezzogiorno was in crisis before crisis would arise. Over 2009, then, anti-cyclical policies have been funded by resources allocated for South development, thus worsening the conditions of such regions. The reasons of breaking down a convergence trend, though very slight, precede crisis and are complex, as well as they largely refer to the general extended stagnation of domestic economy compared to the rest of Europe. Nevertheless, Mezzogiorno's deteriorating process occurred since the first part of the decade and strengthened by crisis, both at public overhead and productive capital level, highlights some domestic economic policies' failures, particularly cohesion policies'. These last ones revealed not only qualitative, but also quantitative troubles, as regards public spending. This report deals with the issue of reviewing development policies for Mezzogiorno, by offering the essential coordinates of both governance and policy choices. One of the strategic objectives for South is internationalization, through territories' competitiveness based on context policies aiming at strengthening material and immaterial infrastructures, as well as at increasing human capital and collective goods quality.
