l fenomeno dell'erosione costiera interessa gran parte delle coste sabbiose della penisola italiana e comporta gravi rischi per le infrastrutture, l'ambiente e l'economia turistica. La caratterizzazione dei giacimenti di sabbie sottomarine presenti lungo la piattaforma continentale italiana, usati come risorsa per ripascimenti costieri, potrebbe essere migliorata utilizzando le nuove tecnologie di esplorazione e gestione. I depositi di sabbia sottomarini presenti in piattaforma sono una risorsa non rinnovabile che deve quindi essere gestita in modo oculato, con una logica di sostenibilità ambientale ed economica. Per un miglior controllo delle strategie di sfruttamento si rendono necessari piani e strumenti di verifica, come specifici sistemi informativi che raccolgano tutti i dati, ambientali e fisici, che ne facilitino il loro utilizzo. Nel 2012, attraverso una convenzione stipulata tra Regione Emilia-Romagna SGSS e CNR-ISMAR di Bologna, è stato realizzato un geodatabase (GDB), denominato in_Sand, all'interno del Sistema Informativo del mare e della Costa (SIC) della Regione Emilia-Romagna per la gestione dei giacimenti sottomarini. Questo sistema informativo raccoglie tutti i dati acquisiti dalle ricerche di depositi sabbiosi sommersi iniziate negli anni '80-'90 nella piattaforma adriatica. Nel 2014, con la collaborazione tra ISPRA, CNR-ISMAR ed il supporto del Progetto Bandiera RITMARE, è stata messa a punto l'architettura di un geodatabase, denominato env_Sand, per la gestione dei dati raccolti nelle attività di monitoraggio ambientale effettuate prima, durante e dopo interventi di dragaggio di depositi sabbiosi marini relitti.

Il presente studio è stato realizzato nell’ambito di una convenzione stipulata tra il Dipartimento per i Servizi Tecnici Nazionali-Servizio Geologico Nazionale della Presidenza del Consiglio dei Ministri (già APAT, Servizio Geologico d’Italia/Dipartimento Difesa del Suolo) ora ISPRA e l’Università degli Studi “Roma Tre”, Dipartimento di Scienze Geologiche. Tale convenzione prevedeva la sperimentazione delle linee guida per la realizzazione della Carta Idrogeologica d’Italia alla scala 1:50.000, in un’area campione individuata nell’ambito di uno dei distretti vulcanici dell’Italia centrale: il settore sudorientale dei Monti Cimini. Durante lo studio idrogeologico eseguito in tale area sono stati recuperati dati geologici ed idrogeologici inediti e di letteratura ed è stata realizzata, in quattro fasi stagionali negli anni 2002-2003, un’attività di campagna finalizzata al monitoraggio dei punti d’acqua (sorgenti e pozzi), e in particolare alla realizzazione di misure di portata in alveo per individuare i rapporti falda-fiume. I dati raccolti, inoltre, sono stati utilizzati per uno studio di geologia stratigrafica e strutturale che ha portato alla redazione di profili idrogeologici che, unitamente all’analisi degli elementi caratteristici del bilancio idrologico del bacino del Fiume Treia, principale corso d’acqua nell’area in esame, hanno permesso la ricostruzione di un modello di circolazione idrica sotterranea. Per ogni tematismo geologico ed idrogeologico sono stati realizzati opportuni strati informativi interfacciati con un database appositamente realizzato. Il prodotto finale è stato la realizzazione di una carta idrogeologica alla scala 1:50.000 che, oltre ad individuare le caratteristiche idrogeologiche dell’area ha permesso di poter sperimentare l’applicabilità delle linee guida. This study was realized within a collaboration agreement between the “Dipartimento per i Servizi Tecnici Nazionali-Servizio Geologico Nazionale della Presidenza del Consiglio dei Ministri” (now “ISPRA, Servizio Geologico d’Italia/Dipartimento Difesa del Suolo”) and “Università degli Studi “Roma Tre”, Dipartimento di Scienze Geologiche”, aimed to the testing of the Italian guidelines for the hydrogeological survey and mapping at the 1:50,000 scale in the south-eastern sector of the volcanic district of the Monti Cimini, in central Italy. The study has concerned the collection of geologic and hydrogeologic information from the scientific literature, the realization of a hydrogeologic field survey (four seasonal field investigations in a year during 2002-2003) consisting in well and spring monitoring and in stream gauging measurement finalized to the definition of the groundwater-surface water relationships. The collected data were also used for a stratigraphic and structural geology study aimed to the elaboration of hydrogeologic sections that, along with the discussion of the elements characterizing the hydrologic balance of the Treia River Basin, representing the main stream in the study area, have allowed the reconstruction of the local groundwater flow field. The geologic and hydrogeologic information has been organized in different informative layers interfaced with a specific suitable database. The hydrogeologic map on purpose realized at the scale 1:50,000 reports the main hydrogeologic features of the study area and the results of the testing of the cartographic guidelines.

Le unità idrogeologiche dei Monti Sabatini e Cimini,appartenenti al dominio vulcanico del Lazio settentrionale, ospitano una consistente falda regionale che alimenta numerosi bacini idrografici, tra cui quelli del Lago di Bracciano-Fiume Arrone, e del Lago di Vico-Fiume Treia. Gli autori hanno affrontato le problematiche idrogeologiche con l’aiuto della tecnologia GIS, in modo tale da poter confrontare e quantificare la risorsa idrica attualmente disponibile con gli scenari riconosciuti per gli anni passati. A tal fine sono state condotte più campagne di rilevamento piezometrico e delle portate in alveo nel periodo 2002-2003. I risultati di tali indagini, confrontati con quelli degli anni ’70, hanno messo in luce un depauperamento della falda idrica. L’abbattimento più consistente dei livelli di falda è stato riscontrato tra Monte Rocca Romana e Monterosi, mentre abbassamenti dell’ordine delle decine di metri sono stati riconosciuti in più settori a est del Lago di Bracciano. E’ stata, inoltre, definita quantitativamente la ricarica, al fine di valutare l’influenza di tale fattore sul depauperamento comprovato dai rilievi idrogeologici effettuati. Il confronto tra gli andamenti piezometrici attuali e storici ha consentito di realizzare la Carta degli Scenari Piezometrici, ovvero di individuare le aree critiche, nelle quali l’entità del prelievo supera in maniera inaccettabile la ricarica. Le finalità di questa ricerca costituiscono una novità per la regione sabatino-cimina e forniscono elementi di grande interesse applicativo, in particolare per la salvaguardia delle risorse e per lo sviluppo sostenibile. The hydrogeological units of the Monti Sabatini and Cimini, belonging to the volcanic domain of Latium region, host a large regional aquifer that feeds many river basins, including those of Lake Bracciano –Arrone River, and Lake Vico-Treia River. To evaluate the assessment of groundwater resources in these basins the authors conducted more piezometric campaigns and campaigns to measure the base flow of the river which are natural drainage of the aquifer during the period 2002-2003. The results of these investigations, compared with those of the previous survey campaigns (1970), have revealed a depletion of the aquifer. The most substantial reduction of groundwater levels was found between Monte Rocca Romana and Monterosi, while lowering of groundwater surface of tens of meters have been recognized in several areas east of Lake Bracciano. It has also been defined the amount of recharge, to evaluate the influence of this factor on the depletion of the aquifer. The comparison between the current and historical trends piezometric allowed to make the map of the piezometric scenarios, and to identify critical areas in which the amount of the levy exceeds the recharge. This study is useful for developing plans for protecting the groundwater resource.

A data set including information on macroinvertebrates identified to genus/species group/species level was created within the mon-itoring activities of several European and national projects. The data set includes 2111 macroinvertebrate records on temporalfragmentarydata from lakes Paione (upper, middle, and lower lakes Paione), and 530 records on spatial data relative to eight other high-al titudelakes from the Ossola Valley (North-western Italy, Piedmont, Central Alps). The study area is included within the Lake Maggiore wa-tershed. All records are georeferenced because, since the beginning of the studies, temporal data were taken in the same sampling sitesover years. The temporal data span the period 1989-2020, the spatial data refer to the 2019-2020 sampling activity. Based on both experimental observations and available numerical methods, an innovative 2D approach for determining droplet size during the atomization process has been developed. Based on experimental evidences (see [1] and [2]) atomization of turbulent high speed jets is assumed to occur in a two stage process: ligaments detachment and droplets formation. The simulation method here proposed wants to take the advantages typical of the two most effective methods in spray investigation. It joins LES (i.e Large Eddy Simulations) approach and Linear Stability Analysis: the first one is used to solve the liquid-air fluid dynamics interaction and in particular the instabilities leading to ligament formation. The second one is finally adopted to compute the droplet size spectrum from ligament break-up. Therefore dynamics of ligament formation is directly computed while droplet formation is modelled by using a Linear Stability Analysis. The numerical simulation adopts a VOF (i.e. Volume of Fluid) method to track liquid-gas interface. Turbulence effects on liquid surface are accounted for by adding a turbulent flow field at the nozzle exit which represents a part of the boundary condition of the computational domain. A physical criterion is then applied to detach ligaments from liquid jet surface which will reduce in diameter during simulation. The droplet formation is then computed by applying the linear stability analysis to the ligaments, assumed being circular and subject to circulation. An extensive validation and sensitivity analysis has been carried out in order to assess method advantages and limits. The experimental results of Wu et al. [3] and Horoyasu et al. [4] were used as test cases. A sensitivity analysis has been performed under typical HSDI Diesel engine injection conditions. The method proved to exhibit promising attitude in the reconstruction of the droplet size spectrum depending on injection parameter or conditions.Copyright © 2004 by ASME
