The research paper explores different appropriation strategies of English language in Pakistani English literature. The research examined various appropriating techniques and the reasons behind using these techniques in short story Mamoon Ji by Tariq Rahman. English has become the lingua franca in the world. So, the writers tend to appropriate language in their writings from all over the world. The same phenomenon has been observed by the researchers in Tariq Rahman’s writing. The researchers analyze the text and apply Ashcroft’s theory of appropriation (2002) to investigate five appropriation strategies like glossing, untranslated words, syntactic fusion, vernacular transcription as well as code-switching. Many Urdu words have been analyzed along with Arabic words and Punjabi phrases at lexical and sentence levels. The focus remains on how Rahman employs the language appropriation techniques to convey themes, represents cultural contexts, and construct characters. The study provides the significant information in examining the issues, extracting desired information & reaching outcomes. This paper focuses on Anglophone Pakistani narratives' effort to highlight the contextual specificity of Pakistani women in order to understand the heterogeneity and complexity of their experiences and lives in marginalized as well as in resistant positions. They challenge the hegemonic patriarchal discourses both nationally and internationally by not just showing the diversity of the issues and experiences of women but also giving a counter discourse to the Eurocentric essentialized monolithic representation of the Third World or Pakistani women as oppressed and without having any voice. It analyzes glocal concerns in Mohsin's The Diary of a Social Butterfly in which the genre of Chick Lit is appropriated with the insertion of local perspective and culture that gives it Pakistani dimensions. It considers Mohanty's arguments regarding the importance of contextualized feminist perspective as the basic theoretical framework to highlight the necessity to consider the contextual specificity while incorporating Western discourses and to argue for a more inclusive approach with pluralistic alternatives. Literary works are rich in themes due to their intense language. Alamgir Hashmi is a contemporary Pakistani poet whose themes are akin to mundane life. It is challenging to grasp the deep and true meaning of his poems because he talks about nature and everyday elements to tackle with highly complex themes like happiness and life. Therefore, it is important and essential to identify the most common themes in Alamgir Hashmi's poem:Children at Lesson in order to understand his poetry better. This research article tries to interpret the poem on the basis of thematic analysis (TA) that is a comprehensive and qualitative method for analysis of a literary text. From educational perspective, this poem is very rich as it delineates the studying norms of children. Selection of this poem, Children at Lesson has been made for multiple reasons: it certainly manifests the Pakistani culture but its structure also speaks of its complex narrative beauty, thematic meaningfulness and unique diction. The article discusses women's bodies as victims of violence by regarding gender as a stereotype as compared to a social construct within the context of Pakistan. The primary sources for this analysis are a sample of investigative journalism based on the life of a Pakistani social media figure Qandeel Baloch as depicted in The Sensational Life and Death of Qandeel Baloch (2018) by Sanam Maher. We contend that the conventional expectations of women in Pakistan have resulted in crimes like honor killing. Urdu, the national language of the Pakistani people, inherits a valuable literary heritage in which women also play a major role. After the emergence of women's movements in the West and its transfer to Asian countries, the pursuit of social demands and the realization of women's rights in Eastern patriarchal societies became one of the main concerns of educated women in these countries. In Pakistan subsequent movements in the same direction were formed, which deepened and expanded after the independence of this country. Urdu speaking women poets and writers have collaborated with women's movements, using influential literary tools to achieve the social ideals of the women's movement, and creating works in the field of poetry and prose that can be called women's literature or writing. This descriptive-analytical study has tried to analyze the historical context of the formation of women's movements and the connection of Urdu literature with these movements in order to examine the evolution of women's writing in various historical periods. The results of the research show that throughout the history of the subcontinent, many women have created and produced literary works, but the reflection of women's specific issues, especially in the field of their social rights, dates back to the mid-nineteenth century. Among the very few Pakistani Anglophonic literary instalments that quintessentially make the tragedy of Bhutto their central subject, Tariq Ali's BBC play The Leopard and the Fox (2007), Salman Rushdie's novel Shame (1983/2008) and Raza Ali Hasan's poetry collection Sorrows of the Warrior Class (2015) pose two important questions: Why did the promise of progressive change in Pakistan, symbolised by Bhutto's political career, fail? Was the military coup d'état against him a local affair or a deliberate imperial intervention? Ali's hedging, ambivalent two-faced portrayal and Rushdie's ridiculing and merciless caricaturing of Bhutto lead Hasan to a third way to judge Bhutto's moral compass and political actions in the wider context of the Cold War. The present study aims to explore The Prisoners, a play by Pakistani playwright, Usman Ali, as Pastiche of Waiting for Godot. The Prisoners is a creative blend of modernist themes and style. It is deemed appropriate to make use of any of the postmodern lens to explore any postmodern text. Pastiche is a mode of intertextuality which finds vivid expression in the craft of The Prisoners. Pastiche is a style which is produced by borrowing fragments, ingredients or motifs from other works. The Prisoners, an artistic blend of modernist themes and style, written in Pakistani context, is modelled on Waiting for Godot, which has World War II in its background, therefore, the aim of this paper is to explore The Prisoners (2018) by Ali (1978) as a Pastiche of Waiting for Godot (1953) by Samuel Beckett (1906 - 1989). The paper also explores how a work of art, crafted in Eastern culture, can be a rewriting of the work of art, created in western culture. Thematically, both the plays include human predicament related to angst. Hence, human angst and predicament is a theme in Anglophone Pakistan Literature. This paper presents a reading of contemporary Pakistani women's fiction with a focus on their treatment of the subjects of sex and intimacy. The textual nuances have been thematically presented to situate the argument that Pakistani women writers celebrate the intimate aspects of their lives. Without being disloyal to religious and regional sensibilities, these women are creating and nurturing breathing spaces for them. The data for the study comprises the works of two contemporary Pakistani women writers Maha Khan Phillips' Beautiful from this Angle (2010), and Saba Imtiaz's Karachi you're Killing Me (2014). For the sake of conducting narrative analysis, this study relies on postfeminism as a conceptual framework and thematic categories representative of the chick literature genre as a method. The white Western feminism essentializes "Third World" women as monolithic passivity in binarist relationship with Western women's supposed agency, a colonial theoretical position on eastern women. Mohanty subverts this universalization of Eastern women's praxis in homogenized colonial discourses which conceptualize eastern women's situation with totalizing indifference to the diversities of their socio-cultural life. Employing Mohanty's theoretical stance on white western feminism's essentialism, this article analyzes two works of Pakistani literature in English The Shadow of the Crescent Moon (2015) and The Miraculous True History of Nomi Ali (2019). The article focuses on how these works place their female subjects with varying agencies into their particular historical political praxis and portray agentic individuals who lay claim to their body and sexuality on one hand and demystify the West's essentialism on the other. The present study highlights the status of women and nature in Pakistani culture by exploring ecofeminism through metaphors in the selected poems of Daud Kamal. The study uses Karen Warren's theory of ecofeminism asserting that women and the environment are inextricably associated. The plundering of one catastrophically affects the other and both continue to suffer. The qualitative method of study explores and evaluates the social standing of women and nature through ecofeminist lens with a particular focus on Pakistani patriarchal and culture stricken society leading to gender inequality. The study makes use of textual analysis to analyze the selected poems and is significant as it focuses on women and the environment as being marginalized. Females and ecology's oppression at the hands of patriarchy is the root cause of several issues that push them into an abyss of forgetfulness thus leading to oppression of women in the name of culture, religion, social face-saving, sexuality and gender while the environment is degraded by exploiting natural resources for temporary gains. The metaphors used in the selected poems depict the subjugation of women and nature and analyze it in connection with ecofeminism. It concludes to illuminate that the relationship between ecofeminism and Pakistani women is very strong as it defines cultural norms where both are degraded and devalued due to their social status. Today one of the most disconcerting questions confronting the postcolonial world is whether its political liberation led to its linguistic liberation as well, and, if not, why not? This larger concern, however, with reference to Pakistani literature, leads to two subsidiary questions: first, how to define Pakistani literature and, second, who stands for it. This is the question which this paper has tried to explore because, unlike other literatures, Pakistani literature, at present, is being presented by those who write mostly in English, not Urdu. To make things thornier, many of them are not even Pakistani citizens, some not even of Pakistani origin and quite a few have never been to Pakistan. Above all, they write in English -- still an elitist language in Pakistan which continues to have crippling effects on education, economy, social psychology and history of the country. Call it an irony of history or an outcome of contemporary linguistic imperialism of English, that whenever the phrase Pakistani literature is used it mostly evokes the idea of the writings available in English by such writers as Hanif Kureshi, Aamir Hussain, Nadeem Aslam, Zulfikar Ghose, Kamila Shamsie, Mohsin Hamid, etc. This is an interesting oddity which we usually do not find with regard to other literatures e.g. American literature, German literature or French literature. Exit West reflects a progressive shift in Pakistani anglophone literature from the familiar framework of postcolonial writing back to writing beyond the 9/11 era. Set in a post-Brexit–Trump world, this speculative fiction seeks to democratize the future by re-imagining the relationship between history and geography, aligned with the dimensions of time and space. In Hamid's view, the present wish of humanity to go back towards past greatness poses a grave danger to the imagining of a progressive future. His novel therefore presents a radical future of global migration imagined through the magical portals that allow instant access to destinations around the world, challenging border divisions. This article argues that this turn towards speculative postcolonial fiction opens literary doors into cognitive spaces of contestation as well as meaningful dialogues in a post-post-9/11 world of global insecurity and anti-immigration sentiments that have contributed to far reaching events like Brexit. The purpose of the study is to review the published literature on factors affecting knowledge sharing in Pakistan. Only those studies were included in the review, which were conducted in Pakistani context. Data was collected through exploring different sources including Google and Google Scholar. Time limitation was not applied. Review of the Pakistani literature confirmed that factors of different nature influenced knowledge sharing positively as well as negatively. Respondents of the conducted studies were from various categories such as students, teachers, employees (working in dairy, banking, telecom, corporate sectors and academic environment) and bloggers. Results of the study will be useful for organizations, students, and faculty as well as government authorities. It is recommended that organizations should work on minimizing the negatively impacting factors to maximize knowledge sharing among their individuals. This paper investigates how Mohsin Hamid's fiction challenges the so-called "natural law" of world literature according to which a work of literature has to be first born into a national literature before circulating into world literature. In addition, the paper shows how Hamid's fiction and its reception strains the category of "national literature." Building on the theoretical insights of Vittorio Coletti and Alexander Beecroft, I argue that Hamid's 2017 novel Exit West can be read as a world novel because it narrates the world by framing the displacement of its characters in terms of migratory movement from the Global South to the Global North. Language as a form of social practice is an essential tool to wield power and dominate the weak. What appears to be a simple narration of an anecdote may be a perpetuation of certain perspectives and a disguised manipulation of the reader. About a Burning Girl by Daniyal Mueenuddin is a text which depicts a married Pakistani woman of lower social strata struggling not just for her acceptance but also for her life. Socially as well as economically subjugated, she is a convenient scapegoat and the softest of the targets in a male dominated patriarchal society. To highlight the destruction/de-structuring of female identity through language in the text, in relation to Hodge and Kress's (1993) analytical model, this study aims to analyze the selected text from the Marxist feminist perspective, which sees women as the exploited working class. Analysis of the representative syntagms in the selected text shows that the female subject, as perceived by the male author, is represented as a de-structured, voiceless, dead character. The study thus exposes the underlying ideology of the text and its social implication as discourse with respect to women being represented as weak, speechless objects of male manipulation in Pakistani literature. The article examines the representation of Partition of India in Pakistani literature, namely, the books "Basti" by Intizar Husain and "The Weary Generations" by Abdullah Hussein. It describes the fall of Dhaka, the contemporary politics and the Bangladesh Liberation War. It also describes colonialism and the role of Indians in the First World War as indicated in Hussein's work.

The decade following the events of 9/11 has witnessed a new wave of Pakistani English writers who have attained wide international acclaim. This surge in Pakistani writings in English has coincided with a renewed interest in the intersections between literature and human rights, especially in the current period of global tension. This article aims to examine the role of contemporary Pakistani Anglophone fiction as a valuable counter-narrative to dominant 9/11 writings in the West, and traces its engagement with the effects of the ensuing ‘War on Terror’. For this analysis, the author focuses on two representative works of fiction: Kamila Shamsie’s Burnt Shadows (2009) and Jamil Ahmad’s The Wandering Falcon (2011), and highlights the different yet important contributions of each in expanding the genre of 9/11 writing. While Shamsie stresses the need for a broader historical contextualisation of recent events that have caused a global divide, Ahmad’s work is an attempt to humanise tribal populations of Pakistan perceived as the ‘enemy’ in the war against terrorism. This essay argues that diaspora is a useful analytical category for understanding certain migrant populations engendered by Partition, but not all Partition migrants can be designated as diasporas. Through a close reading of two novels—Intizar Husain'sThe Sea Lies Ahead(translated from the Urdu originalAage Samandar Haiby Rakhshanda Jalil) and Kamila Shamsie'sKartography—I show how Urdu-speaking migrants from India's Muslim minority provinces who migrated to the urban centres of Sindh have invented and preserved themselves as a diaspora in post-Partition Pakistan. Pakistani English as an indigenous variety exhibits variation at different levels of language. Previous quantitative studies on Pakistani English have identified its distinct characteristics on the basis of the occurrence of individual linguistic items and have played a pioneering role in the recognition of Pakistani English as an independent variety. However, these studies are limited in their scope as they depend on individual linguistic features and unrepresentative data. Biber (1988) developed multidimensional (MD) approach for register variation studies based on the co-occurrence of lexio-grammatical features. Biber (1988) disregarded the reliability of individual linguistic features for being subjective and misleading in exploring variation among registers and emphasized the importance of co-occurrence of linguistic features to distinguish among registers. The idea of co-occurrence structures the basis of multidimensional approach which proves to be the most suitable quantitative and comparative approach for register variation studies. The present research as one of the pioneer studies on register variation aims to explore Pakistani academic writing register through multidimensional analysis. A special purpose corpus of 8.385000 million words of Pakistani academic writing has been constructed for the present research. The corpus consists of 235 research dissertations of MPhil and PhD graduates and is further divided into categories of research sections. To explore the distinct identity of Pakistani academic writing as a register, the current research aims to explore linguistic variation among research sections on five textual dimensions of Biber's 1988 study. The paper argues that reading Romanticism through the Sufi literary tradition, a mode of reading that the paper calls ibrah, may be instructive today in terms of understanding and possibly resolving some fundamental critical issues in the contemporary Pakistani literary and cultural context. The argument proceeds by establishing that the contemporary literary and cultural problems, first in their western context, may be seen as fundamentally Romantic in nature symptomizing a particularly Jewish mode of existence. This the paper achieves by referring to the so-called postmodern revisions of Romanticism by some major western critics. Secondly, the paper seeks to investigate through some of the central literary figures in the Pakistani literary canon how the impact of the western literature and culture and a subsequent distancing from a rich cultural tradition has forced the Pakistani literary and cultural consciousness to 'own' these problems, hence falling itself into a Romantic/Jewish predicament. Although the comparative studies, East and West, have mostly focused on the apparent inspirational and aspirational similarities between Romanticism and the Sufi literary tradition, this paper rather focuses more upon the differences that exist between their traditional/religious provenances and attempts to develop a cultural critique that may suggest a critical and theoretical reorientation for dealing with our contemporary 'Romantic' situation. The purpose of this study was to examine the role/performance of the translation institutions in Sindh, Pakistan and to find the relationship between organizational and translational materials and contribution towards translated literature. The primarily focus was on the perception of translation, and the quality of translation expert which predicts their job performance. The study examined 12 selected translation institutions located in Karachi, Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Khairpur within Sindh province. Data was collected through questionnaire, survey and personal interviews. The results may not be generalized to all the translation institutions in Sindh; firstly, as data of 12 translation institutions is inadequate for the purpose; secondly, interpretations of results are limited by the cross-sectional design of study. According to the knowledge and believe, very few studies have been conducted on this issue. The paper critically evaluates the challenges involved in the contextualization of critical pedagogy tenets. Although critical pedagogy's chief claim is to enforce an informed and committed praxis, yet it has been criticized as a grand narrative (Daneill, 1999). Daneill criticizes critical pedagogy's overgeneralization of repression, as if all students anywhere in the world are oppressed as well as unaware of oppression. The paper tries to probe the issue whether critical pedagogy can practically be implemented in any given situation. Pedagogy of place theories have been taken into consideration to probe further into multicultural educational needs. In this regard, Pakistani context has been chosen to analyze the implications of applying critical pedagogy to a literature classroom by using the method of grounded theory. The results emphasize that the contextualization of critical pedagogy ideals is very important. This can be achieved by first identifying the nature of oppression in any area and then encouraging teachers to become pedagogues, emancipating students from social and cultural bondage. Translation is the method of converting a Source text to Target text. Translation aims to produce a text that not only contains the real essence of source text but also acceptability in target culture. The translators have chosen the text which is an important piece of Pakistani Literature, "Chacha Chakan ne Tasweer Tangee" to translate with the title "Chacha (Uncle) Chakan Hanged a Picture". The evident hilarious glimpse can be felt by reading the name. The translators have maintained that effect in the Target text by maintaining the grace of original text. That's why, they have called hanged instead of hung for hanging the picture. This text was written by Imtiaz Ali Taj, the famous dramatist of Urdu Literature, in early nineteen twenties. Although much research has been undertaken on Indian cities, particularly Bombay/Mumbai, Calcutta/Kolkata and Delhi, Pakistani urban environments have not been subjected to anything like the same degree of scrutiny. There exists a long and rich history of artistic and textual interpretations of the city of Lahore, but this body of work has gone largely unappreciated in academic scholarship. To redress this critical gap, the article examines fiction by two diasporic authors from the Pakistani Punjab, Bapsi Sidhwa and Mohsin Hamid, for their representations of Lahore as a postcolonial megacity which is crucially important to the nation and the Punjab, and which interpenetrates with and is cross-fertilized by its Punjabi rural hinterland. Studies on different Bibliometric laws, especially Lotka's Law, reveal that results are not consistent when we apply these laws to different data sets in different fields of studies. This paper continues the study of exactness of Bibliometric laws through application of Lotka's law to library and information science (LIS) field. It presents Bibliometric analysis of LIS literature produced in Pakistan during 1947-2008 and tests the applicability of Lotka's law to Pakistani LIS authors. An analysis of authorship pattem for 5195 items revealed that 2609 authors contributed to Pakistani literature during 62 years period under study. Results showed that majority of authors produced only one item in their entire professional career. The results of the study indicated that there was a wide gap between the number of authors observed and number of authors expected for different number of items produced. The researchers also applied the Kohnogorov-Smimov (K-S) test, using Lotka software, to determine goodness of fit and foimd that data failed the test at all levels (1%, 5% and 10% levels). This paper aims to examine the syllabification of Hindko dialect spoken in Tanawal, Mansehra. The data was collected from two sources; first, from two dictionaries written in other dialects of Hindko, and secondly, by recording the daily conversations of the native speakers of Tanawal. The data was transcribed into International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) and then the syllable boundaries were marked in light of Maximal Onset Principle (MOP). The findings show that the Tanawal dialect generally follows the Maximal Onset Principle of syllabification. This survey paper adumbrates an opening up of Pakistani fiction in order to draw comparisons with other writing by novelists of Muslim heritage. While Pakistani writers tend to be analysed as part of broader South Asian trends, Pakistan also faces west and has concerns in the Middle East, Central Asia, Europe and beyond that derive from its Muslim identity. Without overstating the idea of a universalizing umma (which can lead to neglect of the differences and tensions between different Muslim groups), the approach has the advantage of bringing together writers from Muslim countries to shed light on each other. South Asians, Arabs, and Africans are discussed together, because of their shared religious heritage, but never overlooking their vast contextual variations. Insights and themes unique to the research include the fact that writers often tap into a canon of largely Muslim literature and art from the Middle East, South Asia and elsewhere, which responds to key moments in the construction of Muslim identity, so intertextuality is a significant concern. This article critically engages with a contemporary play, Aur Kitne Tukde, staged in the Hindi language in various cities and towns in India and Pakistan, about gendered violence during Partition. It unsettles the master narrative of 'honour', 'martyrdom', 'choice' and women's 'agency' on Partition. The article also highlights the significance of the play in breaking the silences around Partition in the theatre, which, as compared with other cultural and literary mediums, reaches out to a larger section of people in unique ways. It underlines how the whole production of the play was a process of traversing and sharing the journey and trauma of Partition not only for the actors but also for the audiences.
