This article introduces a novel strategy for devising an optimal Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) controller via Hamiltonian function method in mitigating the transient stability of a multimachine power system. The STATCOM, a second generation shunt type FACTS device, is popularly employed for power system control. To test the applicability of the Hamiltonian function approach, an IEEE Type WSCC 9-bus system is taken under study. An appropriate Hamiltonian functional has been framed using the parameters of the test system, which is applied to optimize the preferred performance index. The performance of the proposed nonlinear controller is judged against a regular state feedback based STATCOM controller. The parameters of this traditional controller are computed via dynamical Games of the Nash Equilibrium method. The proposed method is beneficial in terms of mathematical complexity as needed in estimating relative degree and coordinate transformation in the feedback linearization method. A detailed investigation of the results reveals that the proposed controller is effective and efficient to a greater degree than the traditional STATCOM controller in a multimachine system, even at some point in serve eventualities like earth fault scenarios. In this paper, different mathematical expressions are derived to compute the residual magnitude of voltage caused by faults along the line and on the bus. Symmetrical and unsymmetrical faults are taken into consideration, and the consequences of the various fault distributions are considered. A new way of assessing a sag is proposed that incorporates the method of fault position and mathematical expression based on sequence currents and voltages. The fault impedance is introduced to obtain a better result. A fast and efficient load flow analysis technique produces quick computational results. In addition, the sag analysis is performed using the bivariate joint discrete probability distribution method that gives a clear idea about the probability of occurrence of sag in a meshed network. The urban and suburban advancement has increased the consumption of energy per capita gradually. Electrical distribution companies have expanded their network to cater to the demand, making the system more vulnerable to low probability high impact events. The extreme events occurred in last five year had shown us complete to partial blackout, which calls for resiliency enhancement. The presented study concentrates on the Dehradun, India, which listed as the most earthquake-prone region by Union Nations Development Programme. Hence, this paper proposes three main strategies to make a resilient distribution grid against an earthquake; (i) Hardening approach at grid side and demand side against earthquake disaster (ii) Monte-Carlo methodology for earthquake hazard model (iii) K-means algorithm with clustering quality index to identify the multiple vulnerable zones. Grid side hardening is performed using the optimal unit placement of the Solar PV plant (SPP) with storage and parallel cables with sectionalizers. For demand-side hardening, electric vehicles are considered storage after an event, duly taking their future growth rate into account. Furthermore, a Mixed Integer non-linear problem is formulated to identify the optimal sizing and sitting of SPP with storage. The modern power markets introduce higher penetration levels of solar photovoltaic (PV) power generation units on a wide scale. Along with their environmental and economic advantages, these variable generation units exhibit significant challenges in network operations. The objective is to find critical observations based on available literature evidence reported by several researchers towards large-scale PV integration issues and important developments in the last two decades: Higher penetration issues, maximum power point tracking, grid integration, and solar PV regulations and policies are chosen as the primary attributes of the study. The work summarizes the significant outcomes of 122 research documents. These are mainly based on three focused areas: (i) solar PV systems with storage and energy management systems; (ii) solar power generation with hybrid system topology; and (iii) the role of artificial intelligence for the large-scale PV and storage integrated market. Energy is one of the basic needs of socio-economic development of an area. The conventional method of electricity generation and grid-connected transmission and distribution system is expensive for the remote rural areas of India, resulting in lower per capita energy consumption. Grid connectivity or establishing new power plants using conventional energy sources is more difficult and expensive in the islands. The depletion of conventional energy sources is also another reason to explore alternative energy sources. Regardless of the cost and depletion of conventional energy sources, environmental issues are of greater concern on the islands. The pollution due to conventional energy sources destroys the biodiversity and ecological health of an island. The aim of the present study is to examine the distributed generation system using different renewable energy sources from the available meteorological data of the largest island in the Sundarbans deltaic complex, West Bengal, India, viz. In this paper a novel non-linear control scheme for Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitors (TCSCs) has been presented to analyze transient stability of a multimachine power system. The non-linear control strategy of the TCSC controller has been formulated by the Zero dynamic design approach. A WSCC type 3-machine 9-bus system has been considered for test system where two numbers of TCSC controllers are placed near the highest load bus in the network. The dynamic stability of the system has been achieved by investigating the stability of the internal states as well as the external states of the system. The stability of the internal states has been ensured by the Lyapunov stability theorem and the external states has been stabilized applying non-linear control law formulated by the zero dynamic design approach. The performance of the non-linear TCSC controller has been compared with its conventional design based on approximate linearization method. The effect of various operating points of non-linear TCSC controller has also been investigated for different loading conditions. The applicability of the above nonlinear control scheme is further demonstrated for a large power system comprising 14-areas, 24-machines and 203-buses. The simulation results for all the cases have been presented through time domain simulation of the proposed test systems with application of typical contingency and different loading conditions. It has been observed that the non-linear control scheme for the TCSC controller is more effective compared to its conventional design as well as its performance is quite satisfactory for different loading conditions in mitigating transient stability of a multimachine power system. Synchronization in the energy generated by renewable energy sources is one of the significant issue associated with the converter used in the system module. The presented paper concentrates on the design aspect of a PV and wind power input to a DC-DC converter which can be practically useful in hybrid renewable energy power systems. In this regard, the proposed converter can be utilized to obtain a smooth regulated output voltage from the given input renewable energy power sources. The proposed converter can be efficiently work under critical conditions having very few ripple in current waveform of input or output. A major advantage with this type of converter is the simple circuit with respect to the conventional converters in some critical situations. At the end, the result based on the simulation exercise and various experiments, performance of the converter in different situations is presented so that the efficiency of the designed converter arrangement is accepted. In this way, the financial and technical aspects of standalone hybrid renewable energy system are analysed, considering the environmental benefits of standalone PV/WT/DG/BS configurations. Lead-Acid Flow (LAF) based technology is found suitable among considered battery-storage. The optimised Hybrid arrangement shows the lowest COE and NPC as 0.192 $/kWh and 1, 23,851 $. The Renewable fraction is found higher in optimal system 93.3%.In addition, the feasibility analysis of solar, wind, and diesel generator associated with Lead Acid Flow-based technology is performed for three different climate locations in Northern and Eastern India. The validation of an optimised hybrid energy system is performed for the rural locality's combined residential and agricultural load. The PDAV tool, interlinked with HOMER- Pro software, executes the renewable resource assessment. India's northern – Tarai region has been found most suitable for the optimised hybrid arrangement PV / WT / DG / LAF with the lowest COE (0.183 $/kWh) NPC (2, 33,276 $) and renewable fraction (94.9 %).The feasible optimised arrangement is further analysed for utilisation of excess produced energy to improve social parameters. This work presents a case study for powering energy poor remote rural communities of Eastern India with locally available solar, biomass, diesel energy resources using Hybrid Optimization Model for Electric Renewables tool to identify the optimized system architecture. The selection of the energy resources has been based on the performance assessment of the resources. The software tool brings four different categorized optimized hybrid configurations using different architectures of resources mentioned above with battery bank. The study exposed that cost of electricity, and net present cost of the most suitable low cost optimized hybrid configuration (600 kW solar photo-voltaic/10 kW biomass generator/50 kW diesel generator/1000 kWh battery/200 kW bidirectional converter) is $0.222/kWh and $0.922 M. The system benefits in terms of reduced emissions and improved system economics. The use of solar energy resource in optimal system modelling provides 45.5% return of investment, 49.4% internal rate of return, payback period of 2.04 years, and discounted payback of 2.25 years from the system without solar photo-voltaic component. Additionally, variation of cost of electricity is analyzed by interpreting sensitivity variables affecting load, system economics, and power production of energy sources using one-dimensional and distinguished multi-dimensional approaches. The present work intends to develop a rural hybrid renewable energy system and examines the techno-financial, and social viability of the same system for rural sites in northern India. This work analyses the performance of Solar Photovoltaic-Wind hybrid renewable energy system for a residential load demand of 51.54 kWh/day with 11.51 kW peak in standalone application. In this paper, a nine parameter based multi-target optimization and sizing scheme is executed by HOMER PRO software. This work sequentially addresses the techno-economic and socio-environmental indicators for optimization analysis. The specification of technical and financial fields are availed from the Indian local market. Seven feasible combinations of different resources are analysed for designing parameters and the optimized combination is selected by multi criteria analysis. The solar Photovoltaic-wind-diesel generator-battery storage is found best combination for consistent power supply. The net present cost and cost of energy are obtained as $ 0.179 and $31,439 respectively. Sensitivity analysis is performed for macro-economic factors and components cost to obtain better opportunity. This paper presents a comparative in-depth investigation of the energy standings, opportunities and the barriers that occur in the expansion of renewable energy in the Asia's two fastest growing economies, i.e. India and China. These two countries contain almost 36% of the world's population and constitute the fastest emerging hub for trade and industries in the energy sector in which different types of energy resources are sought to meet the energy demands. Non-conventional sources of energy are the inevitable alternative for the achievement of economic improvement, ecological balance, nature friendly environment and sustainable development. This paper aims toward the first step for green campus approach for Indian School of Mines ( ISM) campus. Comparative study of the performances for nine different commercialized solar panels made of Maxeon Cell Technology, HIT (Heterojunction with Intrinsic Thin layer), monocrystalline silicon (Mono C-Si), polycrystalline silicon (Poly C-Si), Micromorph, SCHOTT, amorphous silicon (a-Si), CIGS, CdTe technologies in the environmental condition of ISM are presented in this paper. This system suggests to supply the daytime electricity demand of ISM campus as well as efficient use of the huge roof areas of different buildings to setting up the photovoltaic plant. This system ensures a daily mean reduction of 8 MWh electricity consumption from grid. The outcome of this study is that a superior performance is noted for modules made of amorphous silicon technology under the typical temperature variant and dry environmental condition of ISM campus. Electric vehicles (EVs) have revolutionized the transportation sector as an alternative to conventional fossil fuel-based transportation. It becomes more effective when the charging energy comes from green, renewable, cost-effective, eco-friendly resources. The present work discusses modelling a hybrid renewable energy system for EV charging stations in Malaysia. This work presents techno-economic investigation for different hybrid energy system arrangements of solar photovoltaic (PV), wind turbine (WT), natural gas generator (GS) and battery energy storage (BES) for EV charging station. The EV load demand is calculated based on the transportation fleet of an institution considered for five different climatic locations in Malaysia using HOMER-Pro software. Considering the technical sizing of the hybrid system, the minimization of the energy system and net present cost are discussed for each locations. The optimization study of hybrid energy systems is further examined for social benefits and environmental analysis by including the human development and employment creation index. The comparative analysis of hybrid energy storage systems is performed separately. This study uses sensitivity analysis to elaborate on the cost-effectiveness and technical feasibility of the hybrid system, considering the cost of system components, macroeconomics parameters, and load variation. The present paper deals with modeling of AC resistance of twisted litz wires used for high-frequency inverter-fed induction cooker. Several traditional approaches are available, most of which have concentrated in deriving the analytical relationships between the AC resistances with the parameters of the wire. However, it is very difficult to get the exact relationship, due to several reasons. An attempt is made in this paper to model the AC resistance using a three-layered feed-forward Neural Network. For this purpose, four inputs (wire type, number of strand, number of spiral turn and operating frequency) and one output as AC resistance have been considered. Since the performance of Neural Network alone might not be optimal; it is optimized using a binary-coded Genetic Algorithm. Performances of the proposed approach were compared with the method of AC resistance computation proposed by Ferreira. In this study, a new circuit topology using a Z-source resonant inverter (ZSRI) for high power applications in large-air-gap contactless power transfer (CPT) systems, has been investigated. The main shortcoming of a large-air-gap CPT system is the poor power transfer efficiency due to low magnetic coupling. In order to minimize this shortcoming and to improve the overall performance of the system by boosting the power transfer capability, in this paper a CPT system with the newly developed circuit topology using high frequency Z-source resonant inverter has been proposed. Using the newly developed circuit topology for the CPT system, it has been observed that the overall performance of the system has been improved to a reasonable level with a purely sinusoidal resonant current flowing through the primary side. Therefore, no harmonics will be injected into the source. The proposed CPT system with an air gap of 16 cm and a misalignment of 3 cm has been simulated using the Maxwell finite element tool and Simplorer circuit simulation software for an output power of 2 kW. A novel circuit topology of modified switched boost high frequency hybrid resonant inverter fitted induction heating equipment is presented in this paper for efficient induction heating. Recently, induction heating technique is becoming very popular for both domestic and industrial purposes because of its high energy efficiency and controllability. Generally in induction heating, a high frequency alternating magnetic field is required to induce the eddy currents in the work piece. High frequency resonant inverters are incorporated in induction heating equipment which produce a high frequency alternating magnetic field surrounding the coil. Previously this high frequency alternating magnetic field was produced by voltage source inverters. But VSIs have several demerits. So, in this paper, a new scheme of modified switched boost high frequency hybrid resonant inverter fitted induction heating equipment has been depicted which enhances the energy efficiency and controllability and the same is validated by PSIM.
