Abstract

We appreciate very much Hearty and Dai Pra’s Comment and their interest in the Taranto area, but we find that the comment runs into some misreading (e.g. look better at Table 2 and Fig. 5). Our paper presents the results of a multidisciplinary study of some new sections.

9. Il processo di antropizzazione del litorale ionico lucano in relazione allo stato di conservazione della morfologia costiera

Abstract

Nel presente lavoro vengono presentati i risultati di un progetto d'interesse nazionale inerente i depositi eolici delle coste italiane ed il flusso di sedimenti spiaggiaduna. Attraverso l'analisi multitemporale di dati cartografici e foto aeree e rilevamento geomorfologico sono stati censiti i cordoni dunali non interessati da attività antropica. I dati censiti sono stati vettorializzati e georeferenziati in un geodatabase, appositamente strutturato per omogeneizzare le informazioni raccolte sul territorio nazionale. Nel contempo è stato stimato il tasso di antropizzazione della fascia costiera jonica lucana, nel periodo compreso tra il 1949 ed il 1997, a cui è dovuta l'attuale frammentazione morfologica dell'originario cordone dunale.

Abstract

Researches carried out on the Quaternary coastline modifications along the western Salento Peninsula of Apulia, permitted to survey a succession of well-preserved geomorphological sites. These sites testify the events which interested the studied coastal sector during the Quaternary time from mid-late Pleistocene (MIS 9?) to Holocene (MIS 1). The coastal sector of great landscape value, along which geomorphosites are exposed, is wide some kilometres from Gallipoli town toward north as far as the Punta d'Alto Lido promontory (locally known as the ). In particular, a series of landforms is exposed there, shaped by the sea and by sessile organisms which live along the sea cliffs, as well as by aeolian accumulation and deflation landforms. The variety of well-preserved and easy accessible landforms and their concentration in a not wide coastal sector constitute a good opportunity for both didactic and popularization of the processes which characterize the coastal dynamics, as well as the relative diagnostic elements.

The results of isoleucine epimerization ratios in pelecypods and U-series dating of bivalves and Cladocora caespitosa sampled from different Late Pleistocene units in the Cheradi Islands and in the coastal areas of Mar Piccolo and Mar Grande near Taranto (Apulia region, Italy) are presented.
