8. Aerobic Oxidation of Alcohols to Aldehydes and Ketones with Recyclable Pd Catalysts on Cross-linked 1,10-Phenanthroline Polymers

Abstract

A 1,10-phenanthroline based polymer named PPPhen(i.e., polymer from pyrene 1,10-phenanthrolin) was prepared by the Friedel-Crafts reaction of 1,10-phenanthroline and pyrene cross-linked with dimethoxymethane. The related Pd catalyst Pd@PPPhen was prepared by supporting Pd nanoparticles(NPs) on the PPPhen material. PPPhen and Pd@PPPhen were characterized by means of scanning electron microscopy(SEM), transmission electron microscopy, N2adsorption-desorption, Fourier-transform infrared and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analyses. The results showed that PPPhen polymer was highly porous and that the phenanthroline group can enhance the stability of the Pd nanoparticles. Pd@PPPhen also exhibited good catalytic activity in the aerobic oxidation of alcohols to aldehydes and ketones, and Pd@PPPhen was recyclable with durable activity and retentive structures.

Abstract

The design, fabrication and characterization of a fundamental/first-order mode converter based on multimode interference coupler on InP substrate were reported. Detailed optimization of the device parameters were investigated using 3D beam propagation method. In the experiments, the fabricated mode converter realized mode conversion from the fundamental mode to the first-order mode in the wavelength range of 1530–1565 nm with excess loss less than 3 dB. Moreover, LP01 and LP11 fiber modes were successfully excited from a few-mode fiber by using the device. This InP-based mode converter can be a possible candidate for integrated transceivers for future mode-division multiplexing system.

Abstract

We experimentally demonstrate all-optical clock recovery for 100 Gb/s return-to-zero on–off keying signals based on a monolithic dual-mode distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) laser, which can realize both mode spacing and wavelength tuning. By using a coherent injection locking scheme, a 100 GHz optical clock can be recovered with a timing jitter of 530 fs, which is derived by an optical sampling oscilloscope from both the phase noise and the power fluctuation. Furthermore, for degraded injection signals with an optical signal-to-noise ratio as low as 4.1 dB and a 25 km long distance transmission, good-quality optical clocks are all successfully recovered.

48. 1.5??μm dual-lateral-mode distributed Bragg reflector laser for terahertz excitation

Abstract

A terahertz excitation source based on a dual-lateral-mode distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) laser working in the 1.5 μm range is experimentally demonstrated. By optimizing the width of the ridge waveguide, the fundamental and the first-order lateral modes are obtained from the laser. The mode spacing between the two modes is 9.68 nm, corresponding to a beat signal of 1.21 THz. By tuning the bias currents of the phase and DBR sections, the wavelengths of the two modes can be tuned by 2 nm, with a small strength difference (<5??dB) and a large side-mode suppression ratio (SMSR>45??dB).

Abstract

A tunable two-section amplified feedback laser, which employs an amplifier section as the integrated feedback cavity, is designed and fabricated for dual-mode operation with mode separation of 100 GHz. Detailed simulations and experimental characterizations on the performance of the laser are presented. Promising dual-mode emission with continuous tuning range over 16 GHz (87.41-103.64 GHz) is experimentally demonstrated.

50. All-optical clock recovery for 40 Gbaud NRZ-QPSK signals using amplif ied feedback DFB laser diode

Abstract

An all-optical clock recovery scheme based on monolithic amplified feedback DFB laser (AFL) diode is proposed for nonreturn-to-zero (NRZ) quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) format signals. By using a preprocessing stage, clock recovery (CR) is successfully demonstrated for 40-Gbaud NRZ-QPSK signals based on this scheme. The dependence of the timing jitter of the recovered clock on the optical power of the injected signal is investigated. A minimum timing jitter of 362.8 fs (integrated within a frequency range from 10 Hz to 10 MHz) is obtained.
