OBJECTIVES Colchicine, an anti-inflammatory agent, has been reported to improve myocardial infarction prognosis by inhibiting neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) release. However, its role in cardiac surgery and the mechanisms behind NETs suppression remain unclear. This study aimed to explore colchicine's cardioprotective effects against perioperative myocardial injury in cardiac surgery, focusing on NETs inhibition as a novel therapeutic strategy. METHODS Male Sprague-Dawley rats were pre-treated with colchicine (0.1 mg/kg/day) or CI-amidine (10 mg/kg/day) for 7 days before undergoing cardiopulmonary bypass and myocardial ischaemia/reperfusion injury. The model was created by subjecting the rats to cardiopulmonary bypass and myocardial ischaemia/reperfusion injury. Under 4.0% sevoflurane anaesthesia, cardiopulmonary bypass was initiated by cannulating the tail artery and right atrium, and perfusion was maintained for 4 h. Immunofluorescence detected NETs, and haematoxylin and eosin staining assessed inflammatory cell. RESULTS We found colchicine treatment significantly reduced perioperative myocardial injury in rats. Furthermore, we observed a notable elevation of NETs in the myocardial tissue of animal models. Moreover, suppressing peptidylarginine deiminase 4 was found to markedly diminish perioperative myocardial injury in rats. Additionally, colchicine can mitigate the release of NETs by inhibiting peptidylarginine deiminase 4. CONCLUSIONS NETs were significantly elevated during the perioperative period of cardiac surgery. Colchicine significantly mitigated myocardial injury in cardiac surgery by inhibiting NETs formation, with peptidylarginine deiminase 4 inhibition being one of its mechanisms. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

There has been an increasing recognition of the efficacy of various clay mineral elements in absorbing heavy metallic ions, which can be attributed to their cost-effectiveness, widespread, precise floor area, and remarkable practical groups. A co-pyrolyzing calcite/biochar (CP-CAL/BC) composite was prepared in this study by co-pyrolyzing calcite (CP-CAL) and coconut shell (CS) at 650–750 °C. Several methods were employed to analyze the properties of the synthesized composite. The composite showed efficient adsorption of Pb2+ at a pH of 4.5, primarily by the process of monolayer chemisorption, which is influenced by the composite's pore structure and boundary layer diffusion. After several repeated experiments, it was observed that all of the CP-CAL/BC composites possessed exceptional regeneration capabilities, consistently removing Pb2+ at high rates. The CP-CAL/BC composite produced at 750 °C showed the greatest extent of resistance to corrosion, surpassing all other composites with a decrease in corrosion of 7.298 × 10−6 A/cm2. The present study confirmed that the CP-CAL/BC composite material has efficient adsorption features for Pb2+ and strong regenerative capability. The aim of this study is to use a commognitive responsibility framework to visualize responsibility shift in collaborative problem solving (CPS) during computer-supported one-to-one tutoring. Commognitive responsibility shift means that individuals’ cognitive responsibility shift can be reflected by the discourse in communication. For our sample, we chose a 15-year-old Chinese boy and his mathematics teacher with 6 years of teaching experience, both of whom have experienced computer-supported learning and teaching mathematics, respectively. We collected four tutoring videos (each 60–90 min; in total, more than 330 min) online, and a 45-min interview video from the teacher. We found that the third type of commognitive responsibility shift in both the teacher’s and student’s CPS behavior online is not only teacher–student comparison but also alternating-led, which includes teacher–student-led (TS) and student–teacher-led (ST).
