4. Effect of fiber orientation on tribological properties of fiber‐reinforced C/C–SiC composites mated with ceramic ball.

Abstract

Carbon fiber–reinforced SiC ceramic matrix composites (C/C–SiC composites) with advantages of high wear resistance and corrosion resistance are of high application potential as ceramic bearings. In this study, the frictional and wear behaviors of C/C–SiC with different fiber orientations mating with Al2O3 and SiC balls, respectively, have been investigated. Results reveal that fiber orientation effectively affects the friction and wear properties of carbon–ceramic composites in paired friction experiments with ceramic balls. In comparison to C/C–SiC with unidirectional fiber orientation, C/C–SiC pads with randomly arranged fibers exhibited a more stable coefficient of friction and lower volume wear, presenting the best performance among the pads considered herein, which may have the potential to be applied to bearing materials. The factors affecting the formation of continuous tribo‐film, which influence the comprehensive performance, are researched. It is proposed that the amount of wear debris and the formation of SiC/SiC micro‐hard frictional pairs may inhibit or promote the formation of continuous friction film. The dominant wear mechanisms for friction pairs of C/C–SiC and ceramic are abrasive wear and oxidation wear. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The interaction and infiltration behavior between typical calcium–ferrum–alumina–silicate (CFAS) and Yb4Hf3O12 ceramics at 1300, 1400, and 1500°C for different duration times were investigated. At 1300°C, the CFAS melt first crystallized and then generated massive anorthite with high‐melting point, reducing the wettability of CFAS melt and physically blocking CFAS penetration paths. As the temperature increased to 1400°C and 1500°C, the wettability of the molten CFAS correspondingly increases. A continuous reaction layer, composed of apatite, fluorite, and garnet, was formed over Yb4Hf3O12 ceramic due to the penetration of CFAS melt. Furthermore, the infiltration rate of CFAS decreases with increasing corrosion time because of the barrier effect primarily derived from the as‐mentioned continuous reaction layer. Abstract

In today’s era, the connection between science of technology and all aspects of social life is increasingly in-depth. Multimedia technology, particularly in the sphere of education and teaching, demonstrates its tremendous advantages, such as vast teaching resources and the ability to move between various teaching modalities at any moment. To a large extent, all of these have aided the successful execution of China’s education reform. Teachers and students were continually adjusting to the dispersion of conventional roles, resulting in an increase in instructional efficacy. How to improve the significance of multimedia in middle school curriculum development and achieve our academic objectives of "fostering individuals" has now become a contentious issue among academicians. Aiming at the current situation of the development of middle school education management in China, this paper adopts the method of combining questionnaire survey with comparative experiment, proving the advanced nature of multimedia teaching mode. Meanwhile, with the help of questionnaire analysis, the author also understands some middle school students’ real ideas about the application of multimedia technology to the classroom. The experimental results show that multimedia technology is very effective in middle school education management. The classroom quality has been effectively improved, and the enthusiasm of students in class has been improved by about 20%. Furthermore, such an improvement was obtained in only one month of testing, which is quite encouraging. Finally, the researcher provides a thorough review of the research, arguing that using multimedia technology should not only enhance the material’s effectiveness, but also prevent overwhelming the viewers. &nbsp

9. Microstructure Development and Different Heat Treatment of Nickel Aluminium Bronze in Wire and Arc Additive Manufacturing Process

Abstract

Wire and Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) is a promising rapid prototyping process, which can potentially replace the traditional subtraction methods with the benefits of materials, cost and time savings and environment friendliness. It is mainly used to fabricating complex 3-Dimensional large-scale components. This thesis explores the welding process and microstructure development of a Nickel Aluminium Bronze (NAB) alloy and compares the microstructural characteristics with casting samples. As a microstructure control strategy, different heat treatment approaches are used to analyze the redistribution of different phases and changes in mechanical properties. The deposited layers consisted of two dominant phases, α and β, and a variety of precipitates(κⅠ,κⅡ,κⅢ,κⅣ). The β phase retained due to high cooling rate in the WAAM process is harmful for the performance of the construct. The morphology and distribution of the precipitates can be controlled through a heat treatment process, to reduce its detrimental effect on the mechanical properties. The evolution of the microstructure during WAAM processing of NAB is investigated using optical microscopy, electron microscopy and x-ray diffraction. EDS is used to identify different composition distribution. The Differetial Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) is applied to study the microstructure evolution in AM bronze. This technique reveals the temperature ranges where phase transformations occur. The chemical reaction, the appearance of precipitate phases and the retained β phase can be evaluated by DSC. The techniques allows to determine the appropriate heat treatment temperatures. Microhardness test are used to evaluate its mechanical properties. Fatigue properties of NAB by WAAM are analyzed according to its characteristic microstructure and appropriate heat treatments are also predicted for further improving.
