Introduction: Kidney diseases have shown a rising upward trend in the last few decades due to the increase in incidence of associated chronic diseases like diabetes, hypertension. However the frequency and spectrum of renal pathology in autopsy specimens is not well documented or overlooked by physicians as well as pathologists. Aim: To analyse the spectrum of various types of renal pathologies, based on the histopathological analysis of renal tissue where autopsies were performed routinely with no history of renal diseases. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out over a period of two years from June 2021 to June 2023 in the Department of Pathology of SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, Odisha, India, and consisted of 84 cases of well-preserved renal autopsies. The autopsy samples were routinely processed and stained by Haematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) and then reported. Special stain of Periodic Acid Schiff (PAS) was done. Gross and microscopic findings were studied. The study was compared with other relevant studies. The data was analysed using Microsoft Excel 2019. Results: A total of 84 cases were included in the study. The male:female ratio was 1.27:1. The age group with the highest number of cases (35 cases) was 21-40 years. Among the 84 cases the commonest pathology was seen in tubules (40 cases, 47.62%) and glomeruli (7 cases, 8.33%), followed by vascular pathologies (5 cases, 5.95%) and interstitial lesions (4 cases, 4.76%). Renal cell carcinoma was incidentally detected in two cases and Wilms tumour in one case. Five cases had normal histology. Conclusion: The study illuminates the various renal lesions on autopsy and showed tubular lesions were more common than glomerular lesions in renal autopsy. Renal lesions are more common in males. The focus should be to develop more effective diagnostic methods for renal lesions so that intervention can be fast and sharp resulting in less mortality. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

School closure has affected millions of students worldwide. After more than a year of school closure, steps have been taken to re-start in-person schooling. These strategies have worked well for many setups; however, there are some gaps that have led to repeated sessions of closure and reopening of schools. We have studied these plans of reopening schools and looked into changes that can improve their execution. In this study, we have studied the impact of school reopening in the transmission of SARS CoV-2 in various countries, both developed and developing nations. We have reviewed the measures taken in different countries to reopen schools. We have studied how effective these measures were so as to chart out plans from them to execute our strategies in the country. Both urban and rural setups have been taken in to account. We have searched the electronic databases, PubMed and MEDLINE, and bibliographies of relevant studies were included. We have used the keywords "COVID-19," "school," "reopening," "prevention," "strategies," and "transmission." We have manually searched for studies addressing school reopening during the COVID-19 pandemic. PRISMA approach has been adopted to study the articles systematically. After reviewing different studies on school reopening, a low transmission rate among students was noted in 12 out of 13 studies. Measures such as hand hygiene, masks, and contact tracing are fundamental in preventing the spread of infection in schools. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Bacterial vaginosis (BV), characterised by an imbalance in vaginal microbiota, frequently leading to recurrent episodes, has garnered recent research attention due to the significance of biofilms in its pathogenesis. BV biofilms contribute to recurrence by providing a shelter for harmful bacteria, rendering them resistant to conventional treatment. Objectives of this review include characterising BV biofilms, evaluating the limitations of current antibiotic therapy, highlighting emerging solutions and emphasising multifaceted approaches. The review presents data from clinical studies and trials on biofilm-focused treatments which might reduce BV recurrence, with the ultimate goal of improving the quality of life of women with BV and reducing its burden on their reproductive health.

Context: Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia (PcP) is still remains a common opportunistic disease in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infected individuals. Study on PcP in developing countries are scarce., Aims: To study the occurrence of P. jirovecii infection in clinically suspected individuals in a tertiary care institute., Settings and Design: Retrospective study conducted in a tertiary care hospital., Materials and Methods: Two years data regarding respiratory sample analysis, HIV status, and cluster of differentiation 4 (CD4) cell count of clinically suspected pneumocystis infection patients with known/unknown HIV status were analyzed., Results: Data of 45 eligible patients were analyzed. The majority of the patients were male (between 21 and 50 years of age). Total 26 (57.7%) patients were HIV reactive, of which 14 had CD4 count of <200 cells/mm 3 . 20 patients (9 HIV reactive and 11 unknown HIV status) were confirmed with pneumocystosis by direct fluorescent antibody (DFA) staining. Four of 14 HIV reactive individuals who had CD4 count of <200 cells/mm 3 and 5 of 12 HIV reactive individuals who had CD4 count of >200 cells/mm 3 were positive for pneumocystosis., Conclusions: Pneumocystis pneumonia is still prevalent in North India and is mainly affecting patients in economically productive and sexually active age group. To diagnose pneumocystosis, DFA is an easily available method in resource-limited settings. Appreciating the actual HIV or immunodeficiency status and the CD4 profile of an individual with symptoms of pneumocystis infection will help the clinicians in early diagnosis and initiation appropriate therapy in individuals living with the disease.
