A well-known herb Barleria lupulina is traditionally used as a medicinal and decorative plant. The various parts of this plant are reported to contain a range of phytoconstituents, including terpenes and terpenoidal compounds, iridoid glucosides, iridoid diglucosides, phenylpropanoid glucosides, and phenylethanoid glucosides. The hydrostatic transmission is one of the most important applications in the fluid power systems. It gives smooth change in output speed, torque and power as per the design requirements. Present article deals with various losses of the hydraulic pump and motor using a closed circuit hydraulic drive. The drive basically consists of a variable displacement axial piston pump that supplies pressurized fluid to a variable displacement bent axis hydro-motor. In investigating the pump/motor performance, bond graph simulation technique is used to model the drive system. Various losses of the pump and motor are accounted in the model by suitable resistive elements. The characteristics of them are identified through experiments. The predicted performance of the pump/motor is studied with respect to the displacement and load at the same time they are validated experimentally. The investigation made in the article identifies the control strategy which will be useful for the practicing engineers to select best combination of the pump and motor displacement for optimizing the drive performance and minimizing the losses as well. Hydraulic drive systems play a vital and significant role in the mining and construction equipment. It gives a smooth change in the output speed, torque, and power of the machine.. Regulation of the displacements of the pump and the hydro-motor of the drive facilitates the control of the straight running and steering of the machines. The present study deals with the performance analysis of hydrostatic drive similar to that is incorporated in an SDL machine. It consists of a variable displacement pump rotated by a constant speed electric motor and a variable displacement hydro-motor. They are connected in the closed-circuit configuration. The present study investigates the performances of the hydrostatic drive used in the SDL machine through detailed modelling and experimentations. The study finds a reasonable efficiency zone for the design guideline to operate the hydrostatic drive. The effect of perturbation of critical system parameters on the dynamic performance of the drive has been also studied through simulation of the developed model. The steady-state performance of a hydrostatic (HST) drive through modelling and experiment. was investigated. The drive had a closed-circuit configuration, in which the supply from the variable displacement pump drives a variable displacement hydro-motor. The aim was to demonstrate the torque-speed control of the hydrostatic drive by varying the pump or motor displacements with respect to the overall efficiency, torque-loss (%), and slip. The bond graph simulation technique was used to model the HST drive, where the losses of the pump and hydro-motor are lumped through resistances. The characteristics of the losses were identified through test-data. The drive’s performance was studied with respect to the variation of the pump and the hydro-motor displacements. The investigation identifies the efficient zone of operation for these drives. In the present study, novel Schiff bases of 2,5-disubstituted-1,3,4-thiadiazole have been synthesized. The chemical structures were confirmed by IR, 1H NMR and elemental analysis. Acute toxicity study of synthesized compounds was performed. All compounds were screened for antibacterial (Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Micrococcus luteus, Bacillus cereus, Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa)activities and antifungal (Aspergillus niger) activities. The antioxidant activity of a series of novel 2,5-Disubstituted-1,3,4-thiadiazole was determined by DPPH radical scavenging, ferrous reducing power, Fe2+ chelating activity assay. . The minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of the compounds were determined by agar streak dilution method. Among the synthesized compounds, 5-(2-Mercaptophenyl)-2-{N-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxy benzylidene)-4-aminophenyl}-1,3,4-thiadiaz-ole 8f was found to be the most potent antimicrobial activity with MICs of 0.12, 3.1, 2.9, 0.25, 0.16, 0.27 and 2.4 μg/mL against the above mentioned respective strains. The derivatives showed good antioxidant capacity in DPPH radical scavenging assay, when compared to other in vitro models and the IC50 value of most active derivative 8f was found to be 245.67μg/mL. The total phenolic content using Folinţs-Ciocalteu reagent indicated that 1mg of most active derivative 8f contains 624.5 μg with gallic acid equivalent. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Leaf juices as well as leaves of Barleria prionitis and Barleria grandiflora are being used by rural people across various regions of India in the treatment of oral ailments such as dental troubles, gum ailments, pyorrhoea, dental carries and mouth ulcers. Zone of inhibition and MIC values obtained for all the extracts suggest ethanolic extract of the herbs were more antimicrobial when compared to the aqueous extract. Results of biofilm suppression were found statistically significant (p<0.05) when compared to control. Cytotoxicity was evaluated by MTT assay on human gingival fibroblast and human dermal fibroblast cell lines for ethanolic extract of the herbs. CTC50 value was found to be more than 1,000 µg/mL for ethanolic extracts of both herbs. Chlorhexidine was found to be more cytotoxic with CTC50 value of 12.5-25 µg/mL. Ethanolic extract of B. prionitis and B. grandiflora found significantly cytotoxic (p<0.05) in comparison with control. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
