Abstract

We present results for the Kaon $B$ parameter from a sample of $200$ configurations using the Wilson action and $460$ configurations using the Clover action, on a $18^3 \times 64$ lattice at $\beta=6.0$. A slight improvement of the chiral behaviour of $B_K$ is observed due to the Clover action. We have also compared the results for $B_K$ obtained from two different procedures for the boosting of the coupling constant $g$. We observe a strong dependence of $B_K$ on the prescription adopted for $g$ in the Wilson case, contrary to the results of the Clover case which are almost unaffected by the choice of $g$. Combining some recently obtained non perturbative estimates for the renormalisation constants with our Clover matrix element, we observe a significant improvement in the chiral behaviour of $B_K$., Comment: 3 pages, Latex, Postscript file with figures available at ftp://hpteo.roma1.infn.it/pub/preprints/lat94/donini ; to appear in Lattice '94, Nucl. Abstract

We present numerical results obtained in full QCD with 2 flavors of Wilson fermions. We discuss the relation between the phase of Polyakov loops and the {\bf sea} quarks boundary conditions. Abstract

We present the results of a high statistics lattice calculation of hadronic form factors relevant for $D-$ and $B-$meson semi-leptonic decays into light pseudoscalar and vector mesons. The results have been obtained by averaging over 170 gauge field configurations, generated in the quenched approximation, at $\beta=6.0$, on a $18^3 \times 64$ lattice, using the $O(a)$-improved SW-Clover action.From the study of the matrix element $$, we obtain $f_+ (0)=0.78\pm 0.08$ and from the matrix element $<\bar K^{* 0}\vert J_\mu \vert D^+>$ we obtain $V(0)=1.08\pm 0.22$, $A_1(0)=0.67\pm 0.11$ and $A_2(0)=0.49\pm 0.34$. We also obtain the ratios $V(0)/A_1(0)=1.6\pm 0.3$ and $A_2(0)/A_1(0)= 0.7\pm 0.4$. Our predictions for the different form factors are in good agreement with the experimental data, although, in the case of $A_2(0)$, the errors are still too large to draw any firm conclusion. With the help of the Heavy Quark Effective Theory (HQET) we have also extrapolated the lattice results to $B$-meson decays. The form factors follow a behaviour compatible with the HQET predictions. Abstract

The polarization of Polyakov type loops is responsible for the difference between quenched and unquenched finite size effects on the QCD mass spectrum. With a numerical simulation, using different sea quarks boundary conditions, we show that we can align the spatial Polyakov loops in a predefined direction. Abstract

Cognitive rigidity and behavioral and communication problems are the most common symptoms that characterize Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). In fact, people with ASD face complications in everyday life, from interacting with other persons to being autonomous in the most ordinary daily tasks. To overcome these limitations and improve their quality of life, we developed 5A. 5A exploits cutting-edge technologies such as Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Conversational Agents (CA), combining smartphones and wearable headsets to offer new forms of intervention to persons with ASD. Virtual reality experiences enable learning common tasks, such as using public transport, through simulation in a safe environment. When people are in similar real-life situations, AR can help them generalize the skills they have learned in VR by overlaying interactive media assets on top of the view of the physical world around them. A customizable conversational assistant provides individualized prompts and feedback in both VR and AR to provide maximum user support.

Abstract

MagicMuseum is a set of team-based, immersive, full-body activities for Cultural Heritage Education of primary school children. MagicMuseum exploits the interactive and multisensory capability of the Magic Room, an indoor smart space equipped with IoT-enriched components such as floor and wall projections, smart lighting, music and sound, motion and gesture sensors, and smart objects. The paper describes MagicMuseum and briefly reports an exploratory study involving 22 children at a local primary school.

Abstract

Cognitive impairment is a condition that results in a person's inability to remember, learn, concentrate or make decisions that affect his/her everyday life. The assessment of these deficits is usually performed using standardized paper and pencil or computerized tests within a controlled clinical setting. Many traditionally designed tools show only low to moderate levels of ecological validity, limiting the reliability of the collected measures. The proposed system adapts existing screening tests within an immersive virtual reality environment with 360° video, recreating a familiar setting for the patient. This faithful reproduction of everyday environments and situations can enhance the ecological validity of the assessment procedure while maintaining a standardized stimuli delivery, all in a controlled and safe setting. As a computerized system, virtual reality technology allows an error-free computation of the test scores, here collected by means of accuracy for each task. The system involves many technologies aimed at capturing any kind of user input provided by the patient. Additionally, using a visor with integrated eye-tracker sensor, the system can register the visual exploration pattern adopted by the patient during the task execution, providing information concerning the attentional and visuo-spatial functioning which are not obtainable using traditional assessment procedures. Finally, the results of an exploratory study that was conducted with 11 users on the reliability and usability of the system are presented.

Abstract

We present results for the radiative decay B\rightarrow K^* \gamma, obtained by using the Clover action at \beta = 6.0 on APE. The compatibility between the scaling laws predicted by the Heavy Quark Effective Theory (HQET) and pole dominance is discussed. The final result depends crucially on the assumed q^2-dependence of the form factors.

Abstract

We investigated the effects of varying eye gaze behavior of an embodied conversational agent on the quality of human-agent dialogues. In an experiment we compared three versions of an agent: one with gaze behavior that is typically found to occur in human-human dialogues, one with gaze that is fixed most of the time, and a third version with random gaze behavior. The versions were found to yield significant differences in efficiency of the dialogues and in user satisfaction, amongst others.

We describe the architecture of the APEmille Parallel Computer, the new generation of the APE family of processors optimized for Lattice Gauge Theory simulations. We emphasize the features of the new machine potentially useful for applications in other areas of computational physics

With a numerical simulation, using appropriate sea quark spatial boundary conditions, we show that we can align the phases of spatial Polyakov loops in a predelined direction. Abstract

We present results for the kaon B parameter obtained by APE-100 from a sample of 100 configurations using the Wilson action and 200 configurations using the Clover action, on a 18(3) x 64 lattice at beta = 6.0. We have also compared the results for B-K using two different values for the effective coupling constant g. We observe a strong dependence of B-K on the prescription adopted for g in the Wilson case, contrary to the results of the Clover case which are almost unaffected by the choice of g

Abstract

We describe APEmille, the latest generation of the APE parallel processors. This machine, an evolution of the APE100 concept, is very efficient for LGT simulations as well as for a broader class of applications requiring massive floating point computations. Several new features characterise this evolution. In particular local addressing capabilities are added to all computing nodes. APEmille also exhibits a higher degree of integration with a network of workstations acting as a global host system. An APEmille system in the Teraflops range will be completed in three-four years. The architecture proposed in this paper is being currently simulated and evaluated. © 1995 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract

A decentralized communication and control system is presented for driving assistance and automation along designated highway segments. This paper is based on a hybrid dynamical model describing vehicular motion, and the structure of a safe controller is presented. A ranging and communication system provides information for a vehicle and its nearest neighbors. The system is capable of handling sudden changes of regime, overtakes, reentries, as well as a number of maneuvers dictated by safety requirements under partially unpredicted events. APEmille is a SPMD parallel processor under development at INFN, Italy, in cooperation with DESY, Germany. Its 1 Teraflop/s peak performance and its architecture, together with its language features, allow such applications to execute effectively.
