This article represents a refined one-temperature thermoelastic model with higher order time derivatives and phase-lags for a Mode-I crack in a rotating fiber-reinforced solid. The crack is subjected to a stipulated temperature and normal stress. The exact expressions of displacement, temperature and stress components are obtained by normal mode analysis. Some generalized thermoelasticity theories are obtained as special cases. The convergency of the present refined model is tabulated and is compared with other theories. The variations of the temperature, displacements and stresses are presented graphically with the crack length to show the effect of phase-lags and thermal relaxation time through Refined-phase-lag (RPL), simple-phase-lag (SPL), Green-Naghdi (G-N) theory, Lord-Shulman (L-S) theory and the Coupled thermoelasticity (CTE) theory in the presence and absence of rotation. In this paper, we have studied a model of finite linear Mode-I crack in a thermoelastic transversely isotropic medium under Green Naghdi theory. The crack is subjected to a prescribed temperature and a known tensile stress. The plane boundary surface is considered as isothermal and all the field variables are sufficiently smooth. The heat conduction equation is written under two temperature theory (2TT) for Green Naghdi model which contains absolute temperature as well as conductive temperature. The analytical expressions of displacement components, stress components and temperature variables are obtained by normal mode analysis and matrix inversion method. Comparisons have been made within Green Naghdi (G-N) theory of type I, type II and type III for displacement, stress and absolute temperature variables against the crack width for a transversely isotropic material (Cobalt) by virtues of graphs. The aim of this paper is to investigate the interaction of a finite crack with shear waves in an infinite magnetoelastic medium. Fourier integral transformation is applied to convert the boundary value problem for a homogeneous, isotropic elastic material to the Fredholm integral equation of second kind. The integral equation is solved by the perturbationmethod and the effect of magnetic field interaction on the crack is discussed. The stress intensity factor at the crack tip is determined numerically and plotted for low frequencies. Fabric type plays an important role apart from the functional criteria during formation into a readymade garment. The paper deals with investigations for testing of readymade garments to highlight some of the important parameters for selection of readymades. The important cloth parameters studied were density and crimp whereas the garment properties studied were crease recovery stiffness, drape, shrinkage, etc. Results indicate wide variation in fabric specifications, abrasion loss, air permeability, seam strength, whereas the pill resistance and hygral shrinkage for all were found to be satisfactory. For years research has been conducted to find a cutaneous moisturizer that is effective, easily available and relatively inexpensive urea, as a atopical agent, is all of this and is also a mild keratolytic. A trial was conducted over 200 patients suffering from a variety of disorders that were selected and using urea topically as urea 10 (10%), urea-20 lotion (20%), Urea-HC (with hydrocartisanl). The agent was applied twice daily for a maximum period of 8 weeks. Results indicate that urea is an effective moisturizer and in promotes the penetration of hydrocelisone into the skin.

Lichenoid tissue reaction (LTR) is characterised by epidermal basal cell damage which takes the form of liquefaction degeneration or cell death either apoptosis or necrosis with an associated cascade of histologic events in epidermis and dermis. LTR is found in clinical conditions with lichenoid poikilodermatous and pigmentary dermatoses. A selected group of fifty lichenoid and pigmentary dermatoses such as Lichen planus (LP) Discoid lupus erythematosus (DLE) Lichenoid melanodermatitis (LM) and Lichen nitidus (LN) were studied. In LP basal cell liquefaction degeneration was extensive in comparison to other disease with large number of Civatte bodies and colloid bodies. There were significant vasodilatation in upper dermis inside the massive band like infiltrate. PAS positive basement membrane was disrupted in reaction area. Hypergranulosis was conspicuous. Chronic DLE showed spotty lichenoid reaction in the form of basal cell liquefaction degeneration. Civatte bodies and colloid bodies were infrequent. Infiltrate was more focal but could be band like. Epidermal atrophy and thickening of PAS positive basement membrane were important differentiating features, LM or Melanodermatitis toxica revealed focal mild to moderate liquefaction degeneration of basal cells with atrophy of the epidermis. The infiltrate although band like was less dense with marked pigmentary incontinence in clumps and giant melanophages. Civatte bodies, colloid bodies were not found and vascular changes were less prominent. LN showed localised basal cell damage with claw like rete ridges clutching a dense infiltrate. The dermal infiltrate often showed multinucleated giant cell. Civatte bodies and colloid bodies were not present. In some cases of the overlap syndrome LP/LE a careful study of lichenoid tissue reaction could distinguish these two diseases.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)

Ninety seven male patients attending the Leprosy clinic of the Dermatology Out-patients' Department were studied for the detection of Australia antigen. There was a 20% antigen positivity in patients suffering from Lepromatous Leprosy and 5.7% in the cases with Tuberculoid Leprosy. SGPT level was found to be significant in patients with Lepromatous Leprosy having Australia antigen as compared to other groups.

Topical vitamin A acid 0.05 % in lotion and cream forms were tried in 55 patients. All of them except one had some form of local reaction, which started usually after a week and showed maximum intensity in between second and third week. Improvement started after 4-6 weeks and clearing of lesions were noticed in 8 weeks time. The occurrence of local reaction was often beneficial to the patient and served as a guide for effective therapy. The single patient without any reaction did not improve at all. Lotion seemed to be more effective than the cream preparations. 83.6% patients showed excellent response with papulo-pustular and comedone acne, whereas response was poor in nodules and cystic lesions. Vitamin A acid improved the complexion in majority of patients indicating its mild demelanising property observed in this study.

30 male patients suffering from sexually transmitted diseases and attending the Dermatology out - patients department of the S.S.K.M. hospital , Calcutta, were studied for detection of Australia antigen. Immunodiffusion and Counter immunoelectrophoresis were done. 20 per cent Australia antigen (HBs Ag) positivity was obtained in the series.
