Dotilla myctiroides, the soldier crab, digs burrows in sand flats and extracts nutrients from sediment. The present study investigated the burrow morphology of this soldier crab, at Laem Juhoi Beach, Libong Island, Koh Libong Subdistrict, Kantang District, Trang Province, Thailand. Randomly selected burrows were examined by injecting molten paraffin into them. The crab found inside a burrow was collected and measured for its carapace length. The shapes of the complete burrow casts were identified, and various morphological characteristics of the burrow casts were recorded. Prirojena okužba s citomegalovirusom (pCMV) je v razvitih državah najpogostejša prirojena okužba ter najpogostejši vzrok za senzorinevralno okvaro sluha in razvojnonevrološke motnje. Le manjši delež otrok s pCMV ima ob rojstvu izražene znake bolezni, medtem ko je pri večjem deležu otrok s pCMV ob rojstvu okužba klinično nema. Vendar ti otroci lahko kljub temu dolgoročno razvijejo razvojnonevrološko motnjo. Zlasti so ogroženi za nastanek okvare sluha. Glede na evropske epidemiološke podatke in ocenjeno incidenco pCMV v Sloveniji, ki znaša 0,14 %, se pri nas rodi nezanemarljivo število otrok s pCMV. Danes odkrijemo le manjši delež novorojenčkov s pCMV, večinoma le tiste, ki imajo ob rojstvu tudi izražene znake bolezni. Dokler za to bolezen ni univerzalnega presejanja nosečnic in novorojenčkov na pCMV, je smiselno dosledno izvajati usmerjeno presejanje novorojenčkov ter z ustrezno obravnavo izboljšati dolgoročni razvojnonevrološki izid pri otrocih. V prispevku predstavljamo izhodišča za usmerjeno presejanje novorojenčkov na pCMV ter protokol obravnave otrok s pCMV.

Ceramography is the art and science of preparation, examination, and evaluation of ceramic microstructures. Microstructure is the structure level approximately 0.1 to 100 μ m between the wavelength of visible light and the resolution limit of the naked eye. The microstructure includes most grains, secondary phases, grain boundaries, pores, microcracks, hardness microindentations. Investigation and evaluation of ceramic microstructure is very important because a number of mechanical, optical, thermal, electrical and other properties of ceramics are significantly affected by the microstructure. The techniques for ceramographic preparation are divided into five parts: sawing, mounting, grinding, polishing and etching.In this paper a method for preparation of a cold isostatically pressed high purity alumina ceramics (α-Al2O3) is described. Microstructure analysis of prepared ceramics was performed by means of optical microscopy (OM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). Porosity is determined on the polished sample; grain size is measured after thermal etching. The mean grain diameter is determined by means of lineal-intercept method, circular-intercept method and image analysis.

t(14;18)(q32;q21) translocation is an important genetic feature of follicular lymphoma resulting in antiapoptotic B-cell lymphoma 2 (BCL2) protein overexpression. On chromosome 18 breakpoint-site variation is high but does not affect BCL2. Breakpoint most commonly occurs at major breakpoint region (MBR) but may happen at minor cluster region (mcr) and between MBR and mcr at 3′MBR and 5′mcr. The aim of this study was to analyze the correlation of t(14;18)(q32;q21) breakpoint site with clinical characteristics in follicular lymphoma.

Abstract Background Understanding the microbiome is crucial as it contributes to the metabolic health of the host and, upon dysbiosis, may influence disease development. With the recent surge in high-throughput sequencing technology, the availability of microbial genomic data has increased dramatically. Amplicon sequence-based analyses majorly profile microbial abundance and determine taxonomic markers. Furthermore, the availability of genome sequences for various microbial organisms has prompted the integration of genome-scale metabolic modelling that provides insights into the metabolic interactions influencing host health. However, the analysis from a single study may not be consistent, necessitating a meta-analysis. Results We conducted a meta-analysis and integrated with constraint-based metabolic modelling approach, focusing on the microbiome of pacific white shrimp Penaeus vannamei, an extensively cultured marine candidate species. Meta-analysis revealed that Acinetobacter and Alteromonas are significant indicators of "health" and "disease" specific taxonomic biomarkers, respectively. Further, we enumerated metabolic interactions among the taxonomic biomarkers by applying a constraint-based approach to the community metabolic models (4416 pairs). Under different nutrient environments, a constraint-based flux simulation identified five beneficial species: Acinetobacter spWCHA55, Acinetobacter tandoii SE63, Bifidobacterium pseudolongum 49 D6, Brevundimonas pondensis LVF1, and Lutibacter profundi LP1 mediating parasitic interactions majorly under sucrose environment in the pairwise community. The study also reports the healthy biomarkers that can co-exist and have functionally dependent relationships to maintain a healthy state in the host. Conclusions Toward this, we collected and re-analysed the amplicon sequence data of P. vannamei (encompassing 117 healthy and 142 disease datasets). By capturing the taxonomic biomarkers and modelling the metabolic interaction between them, our study provides a valuable resource, a first-of-its-kind analysis in aquaculture scenario toward a sustainable shrimp farming.

Background: From the very beginning of life, biological events in the intrauterine environment influence the developing child, its growth, maturation and adaptation. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of maternal vitamin D and adiponectin status on offspring growth, general and bone health. Methods: 162 healthy pregnant women were included in the study, with their vitaminD and adiponectin levels measured in the 32 nd week of pregnancy. Body weight and bone mineral density measurements of their offspring were performed at birth and at the age of three, six, nine and twelve months. Information on children's infectious, allergic and chronic disease was collected from their medical records. Results: Vitamin D insufficiency/deficiency was present in 44% of pregnant women. There was no significant association between maternal vitamin D during pregnancy and offspring body weight at birth or later, as well as between maternal vitamin D and newborn bone mineral density. Additionally, there was no significant association between maternal vitamin D and infectious, allergic or other chronic diseases in offspring. A negative correlation between maternal adiponectin and offspring's body weight at birth was observed (r = - 0.37, p = 0.002), while association with bone mineral density in newborns was not significant. Conclusion: Despite the significant prevalence of vitamin D insufficiency among pregnant women, it did not influence growth or health of their offspring in this study. Maternal adiponectin levels showed an inverse relationship with birth weight of the infants, which may highlight the important link between maternal health and the offspring's growth.

Using movable emissive and floating probes, we determined the plasma and floating potentials of an ionization zone (spoke) in a direct current magnetron sputtering discharge. Measurements were recorded in a space and time resolved manner, which allowed us to make a three-dimensional representation of the plasma potential. From this information we could derive the related electric field, space charge, and the related spatial distribution of electron heating. The data reveal the existence of strong electric fields parallel and perpendicular to the target surface. The largest E-fields result from a double layer structure at the leading edge of the ionization zone. We suggest that the double layer plays a crucial role in the energization of electrons since electrons can gain several 10 eV of energy when crossing the double layer. We find sustained coupling between the potential structure, electron heating, and excitation and ionization processes as electrons drift over the magnetron target. The brightest region of an ionization zone is present right after the potential jump, where drifting electrons arrive and where most local electron heating occurs. The ionization zone intensity decays as electrons continue to drift in the Ez × B direction, losing energy by inelastic collisions; electrons become energized again as they cross the potential jump. This results in the elongated, arrowhead-like shape of the ionization zone. The ionization zone moves in the -Ez × B direction from which the to-be-heated electrons arrive and into which the heating region expands; the zone motion is dictated by the force of the local electric field on the ions at the leading edge of the ionization zone. We hypothesize that electron heating caused by the potential jump and physical processes associated with the double layer also apply to magnetrons at higher discharge power, including high power impulse magnetron sputtering.

The study of ablation and the laser-induced periodic surface structure (LIPSS) creation during the static and dynamic ultrafast laser (UFL) processing of the Al2O3/TiAlN protective coating is reported. The static irradiation was done with 10 successive pulses while scanning irradiation was performed with sample scanning. The laser ablation was studied by analysis of the surface morphology and elemental composition. The selective ablations manifest as circular craters or lines/micro-channels. The borders are very sharp without debris and hydrodynamic features. LIPSSs were formed at the bottoms of craters and microchannels. The periodicity of the created LIPSSs has shown a trend of increase with the pulse energy. Depending on the applied laser fluence the elemental composition in the centre of the craters confirmed the complete removal of the Al2O3 layer and partial ablation of the second TiAlN. The Al2O3 layer and part of TiAlN were ablated in micro-channels too. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The influence of hard coatings and machining parameters, in particular cutting speed, feed per tooth and depth of cut on specific cutting energy, productivity and surface quality in milling of hardened cold work tool steel, were investigated in this paper. Taguchi's design of experiments was employed for planning of experiments using L27 orthogonal array. Optimal setting of machining parameters for multi-objective characteristics was determined using grey relational analysis. The principal component analysis was used to define the corresponding weight factors of each quality characteristics under optimization. Analysis of variance was conducted and it was revealed that feed per tooth is the most significant parameter affecting quality characteristics. Finally, results of confirmation test with the optimal machining parameters settings have shown that the proposed model improves overall performance of hard milling process.

Spinalni disrafizmi so prirojene nepravilnosti hrbtenjače in spinalnega kanala, ki nastanejo zaradi motenj zapiranja nevralne cevi v zgodnjem embrionalnem razvoju. Glede na kožno kritje jih delimo na odprte in zaprte. Odprte disrafizme prepoznamo že s prenatalno diagnostiko, težja pa je prepoznava zaprtih (okultnih) stanj. Pri slednjih so nam pri diagnostiki v pomoč določeni kožni znaki nad hrbtenico, ki so prisotni pri več kot polovici bolnikov. Ultrazvočna preiskava spinalnega kanala je v prvih mesecih starosti, dokler hrbtenica ne zakosteni, metoda izbire v diagnostiki okultnih spinalnih disrafizmov. Sicer je najobčutljivejše diagnostično orodje magnetno resonančno slikanje, ki predstavlja tudi zlati standard predoperativne diagnostike. Zgodnja prepoznava je pomembna tudi v primerih asimptomatskih stanj, ker s tem omogočimo pravočasno kirurško zdravljenje otrok, pri katerih obstaja večje tveganje za nastanek nenadnih zapletov ali nepovratnih nevroloških posledic. V članku smo povzeli klinične in radiološke značilnosti posameznih disrafičnih stanj, ter oblikovali diagnostični algoritem, z namenom poenotenja zgodnje obravnave otrok s spinalnim disrafizmom.

In this paper, we analyze the possibilities of the protection of tools for wood machining with PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) hard coatings. The nanolayered TiN/AlTiN coating, nanocomposite TiAlSiN coatings, and single layer TiN coating were analyzed in order to use them for protection of tools for wood machining. Both nanostructured coatings were deposited in an industrial magnetron sputtering system on the cutting blades made of sintered carbide WC-Co, while TiN single layer coating was deposited by evaporation using thermionic arc. In the case of TiN/AlTiN nanolayer coatings the thickness of the individual TiN and AlTiN layer was in the 5–10 nm range, depending on the substrate vertical position. The microstructure and chemical composition of coatings were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) method. Additionally, in the case of the TiN/AlTiN coating, which was characterized by the best durability characteristics, the transmission electron microscope (TEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) methods were applied. The coatings adhesion to the substrate was analyzed by scratch test method combined with optical microscopy. Nano-hardness and durability tests were performed with uncoated and coated blades using chipboard. The best results durability characteristics were observed for TiN/AlTiN nanolayered coating. Performance tests of knives protected with TiN and TiAlSiN hard coatings did not show significantly better results compared to uncoated ones.

A novel flow injection microfluidic immunoassay system for continuous monitoring of saxitoxin, a lethal biotoxin, in seawater samples is presented in this article. The system consists of a preimmobilized G protein immunoaffinity column connected in line with a lab-on-chip setup. The detection of saxitoxin in seawater was carried out in two steps: an offline incubation step (competition reaction) performed between the analyte of interest (saxitoxin or Ag, as standard or seawater sample) and a tracer (an enzyme-conjugated antigen or Ag*) toward a specific polyclonal antibody. Then, the mixture was injected through a “loop” of a few μL using a six-way injection valve into a bioreactor, in line with the valve. The bioreactor consisted of a small glass column, manually filled with resin upon which G protein has been immobilized. When the mixture flowed through the bioreactor, all the antibody-antigen complex, formed during the competition step, is retained by the G protein. The tracer molecules that do not interact with the capture antibody and protein G are eluted out of the column, collected, and mixed with an enzymatic substrate directly within the microfluidic chip, via the use of two peristaltic pumps. When Ag* was present, a color change (absorbance variation, ΔAbs) of the solution is detected at a fixed wavelength (655 nm) by an optical chip docking system and registered by a computer. The amount of saxitoxin, present in the sample (or standard), that generates the variation of the intensity of the color, will be directly proportional to the concentration of the analyte in the analyzed solution. Indeed, the absorbance response increased proportionally to the enzymatic product and to the concentration of saxitoxin in the range of 3.5 × 10–7–2 × 10–5 ng ml−1 with a detection limit of 1 × 10–7 ng ml−1 (RSD% 15, S N−1 equal to 3). The immunoanalytical system has been characterized, optimized, and tested with seawater samples. This analytical approach, combined with the transportable and small-sized instrumentation, allows for easy in situ monitoring of marine water contaminations.

The wear of drills when processing wood-based boards is an important problem in industrial practice. The main objective of the study was to experimentally check whether two types of PVD coatings (multilayer nanocomposite “TiN/AlTiN” and double-layer coatings “TiAlN/a-C:N”) increase the wear resistance of the drill bits significantly (in terms of statistics). The typical two-blade drill bits intended for drilling in wood-based panels were used. During the experiments, the holes were drilled in samples made of commercial raw three-layer particleboard with the spindle speed of 4500 rpm, and the feed per revolution was 0.15 mm. The tool wear was monitored using a microscope. The advantage (greater resistance to wear) of both of the tested coatings (“TiN/AlTiN” and “TiAlN/a-C:N”) over raw cemented carbide was statistically significant in the initial period of machining (before 800 holes were drilled). Unfortunately, in the final period (when the number of holes drilled was over 800), only one coating (“TiN/AlTiN”) retained its advantage over raw cemented carbide. The effect of the second coating (“TiAlN/a-C:N”) turned out to be statistically insignificant.

The influence of different types of cemented carbide blades and thickness of TiAlN/a-C:N and TiN/AlTiN protective coatings used in the wood industry on cutting performance has been studied. Three types of WC-Co cemented carbide blades with different cobalt content were used in the study. The thicknesses of both types of coatings were ~2 and ~5 µm. The structure, chemical and phase composition were studied using transmission and scanning electron microscopy (TEM, SEM), X-ray dispersion spectroscopy (EDX) and X-ray diffraction (XRD), respectively. The adhesion was evaluated by scratch test. Nanohardness and durability tests of uncoated and coated blades were performed. We found that the blades covered with 5 µm TiN/AlTiN coatings exhibited the best durability characteristic. The cutting distances were within the range ~6700-~7080 depending on the substrates in comparison with pure substrates (~4300–~4900) and 2 µm TiN/AlTiN coatings (~5400–~6600). The presence of a thin and soft outer a-C:N layer aggravates the nanohardness and durability of the coated blades.

The purposes of this research were to study the condition and strategic human resource management and to develop a strategic human resource management model for small and medium enterprises(SMEs) in the new normal life era. The research model was mixed research by collecting data from the sample group in 2 parts: (1) a sample group from qualitative research by interviewing 10 entrepreneurs or executives of SMEs and focus groups consisted of 19 experts, and (2) a quantitative research sample group, 400 participants which is entrepreneurs or executives of SMEs. The research tools were interview form and questionnaire. Data were analyzed by statistics: percentage, mean, standard deviation, and Exploratory Factor Analysis: EFA. The findings revealed that: 1) Strategic human resource management for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the new normal life era, it was found that it can be composed of all 5 components: (1)human resource planning,(2)human resource recruitment and selection, (3) employee retention, (4)human resource utilization, and (5)human resource development. The Eigen Value after rotation ranged from 6.86-12.84, the percentage variance was from 11.42-22.43 and the cumulative percentage of variance was 78.85%. 2)The result of developing a strategic human resource management model for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the new normal life era that must be considered from the goals of the organization by analyzing the organization’s resources from 2 parts: Resource requirements and available resources of SMEs in the new normal life era. It can lead to the transformation of resources in line with SMEs operations in the new life era and implement Change Management in the strategic human resource management process from the components of strategic human resource management for SMEsin the new normal life era with 5 main components and 15 sub-components.

This article deals with the impact of diffuse and point sources of nitrogen and phosphorus pollution on the environment in Goričko Nature Park. The park was divided into three parts: the Ledava, Big Krka (Velika Krka), and Kobilje Creek (Kobiljski potok) basins, which were then compared. The surface waters were monitored and their chemical composition was examined. All three areas are characterized by elevated levels of nitrogen and phosphorus compounds in the water. Nitrogen and phosphorus pollution results from unregulated manure pits on livestock farms, unregulated sewage systems, and runoff of nitrogen and phosphorus compounds from farmland.
