Purpose: The purpose of the paper is to investigate the role of civil aviation in the case of Montenegro, one of the smallest countries in Europe and one whose economy heavily relies on tourism. Methods: For this research, a dynamic panel data approach is used, where five models are proposed for modelling tourism demand. Available seats per kilometer, the Herfindahl–Hirschman index, jet fuel prices, exchange rates, and seasonality are used as the models’ explanatory variables, in line with the available litetrature. Results: The econometric results show that all suggested models are valid, the explanatory variables are statistically significant, and their coefficients have the expected sign, suggesting a strong relationship between tourism demand and civil aviation. The development of transport infrastructure is a prerequisite and a fundamental factor in tourism sector growth, as without the variety of transport means (i.e. tourist transport by air, by water, on land) and modes (i.e. mass transportation, independent means of travel) tourism industry would not be able to exist. In this context, tourism embraces all the transport systems, from local transit systems to global air connection among destinations. This paper discusses transport for tourism issues with emphasis on practices observed in the rail, yacht and cruising sectors. This chapter examines the complexity of attributes affecting the online purchasing process in tourism and hospitality. Eight elements (i.e. marketing activities, perceived benefits, perceived risks, over-choice confusion, price issues, quality issues, consumer trust and intention to purchase) are identified as of principal importance. Based on a sample of 735 holidaymakers, the empirical findings stress the role of perceived benefits in e-marketing activities; the significance of perceived risks for price and quality issues; and the importance of over-choice confusion to e-shopping. The research employs Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA), an innovative technique in tourism. QCA results are compared to regression highlighting the possible superiority of this non-linear mixed method against correlational analysis. The chapter progresses from fit to predictive validity, something that only a handful of studies have employed in tourism and hospitality, and generally in the service sector. It also discusses several theoretical, methodological and managerial implications, whilst it contributes in both, theoretical and methodological domains.

Purpose: This paper examines developments in tourism during the COVID-19 pandemic using the hotel sector in the North-East of England as the area of study. The country has attracted a lot of attention not only because of its importance as a tourism destination but also due to its rather controversial management of the pandemic at least in its early stages.\ud \ud Methodology: Fifteen semi-structured interviews based on ten open-ended questions were conducted with North East of England-based hotel managers of international brands on the level of their hotels’ preparedness to effectively deal with pandemic cases. The interviews took place in August and September 2020 with participants kept anonymous.\ud \ud Findings: Meeting new operational and bureaucratic requirements added to the cost structure and proved a major challenge for managers who saw their hotel occupancy rates and revenue collapsing within a short period of time. Innovative and aggressive pricing strategies were introduced to lure especially younger travelers in the absence of business clientele. Staff were made redundant and/or asked to work overtime making effective human resource management very difficult.\ud \ud Originality/Value: This is one of the first research attempts to highlight the importance of the COVID-19 pandemic for the hotel sector in a major region of the United Kingdom. The paper also attempts some generalization by discussing managerial implications and suggesting a possible way forward for the hotel sector. Developing resilience by building on previously used successful business practices proves of essence.
