Career adaptability is a factor that determines the success of undergraduate students from the provinces of Papua and West Papua in completing their education. Therefore, this research aims to assess the influence of perceived social support from parents, friends, and lecturers on career adaptability as mediated by core self-evaluation in undergraduate students from the provinces of Papua and West Papua. The research respondents were 176 undergraduate students (female = 104; male = 72) from the provinces of Papua and West Papua who attended either public or private universities in various regions in Indonesia. The research instruments used include three types of scales, namely, Social Provision Scale, Core Self-Evaluation Scale, and Career Adapt-abilities Scale, which are distributed within the network (online). The Hayes' macro-PROCESS was used for handling data processing. The test results show that core self-evaluation partially mediates the influence of perceived social support from parents (ab = 0.110, p < 0.05), friends (ab = 0.114, p < 0.05), and lecturers (ab = 0.139, p < 0.05) on the career adaptability of undergraduate students from the provinces of Papua and West Papua. This study aims to analyze the formulation and application of criminal fines for child sexual intercourse within Papuan Indigenous society. Utilizing a sociojuridical or empirical legal research method, the study examines criminal sanctions, particularly fines, in cases involving child sexual intercourse. Data collected from primary, secondary, and tertiary sources are analyzed qualitatively to draw legal conclusions. The research highlights that customary law, recognized under the 1945 Constitution of Indonesia, plays an essential role in the legal culture of Indigenous communities, including those in Papua. Customary courts, as established by Law Number 21 of 2001 concerning Special Autonomy for Papua Province, are recognized within specific customary law communities. These courts operate based on the respective community's customary law, with provisions allowing for judicial review in formal courts if a party disagrees with the customary Court's ruling. Regarding fines as a criminal sanction, determining the appropriate amount often complicates the resolution of cases. The system is rooted in communal values emphasizing collective rather than individual justice, reflecting principles of kinship, religious beliefs, and societal cohesion in decision-making. This study uses a normative-juridical approach to examine the enforcement of forestry crime laws in Papua Province. The research focuses on implementing Article 76 of Papua Perdasus No. 21 of 2008, which outlines legal enforcement mechanisms in the forestry sector. The regional government is responsible for preparing forestry police officers in Papua and involving customary law communities in forest protection efforts. These communities can act as Swakarsa forest police, participating in forest security within their customary areas. Additionally, the study highlights the role of Ministerial Regulation No. P.56/Menhut-II/2014, which governs the formation of the Forestry Police Partner Community (MMP). The MMP consists of local community groups collaborating with the Forestry Police to safeguard forest areas. Their duties include assisting in forest patrols, securing forest protection infrastructure, disseminating information on forestry, and reporting any threats or security disturbances. The MMP also plays a role in arresting suspects caught in the act and securing evidence for immediate handover to the forestry police or Civil Servant Investigators. In 1545, Ortiz de Retes ‘took possession’ for Spain of a ‘very beautiful land’ southeast of Maluku and named it New Guinea. This article charts the interplay of local knowledge, Iberian experience, and European cosmography in the fragmentary knowing, naming, and mapping of New Guinea’s coasts in the two centuries after 1511. From Malay stories about the islands, coast, or land of the papuas (Papuans) told to Portuguese and Spaniards in Maluku, empirical traces of New Guinea slowly accumulated during at least seven known voyages before 1606. Materialized in manuscript in travellers’ reports or charts and maps copied from lost Portuguese and Spanish master maps, knowledge of New Guinea was published in travel narratives, chronicles, and wider European cartography. My focus is Iberian encounters with places and their naming and mapping. But I also identify hints in maps and other texts of Indigenous agency in encounters and of ancient regional linkages. The Marind live in the southeast corner of Indonesian Papua, traditionally relying on sago cultivation, gardening, hunting and foraging for their daily subsistence. Like many Indigenous People, they have been subject to a series of unsought and often devastating incursions – of disease, sedentarization, cultural dislocation, the theft of traditional economic resources, the occupation of their land by large numbers of transmigrants, and the depredations of a massive agri‐business development. Multiple observers have predicted their annihilation over more than a century. Against this dire backdrop, it is important to study the aspirations and experiences of Marind youth. Drawing on 18 months of ethnographic fieldwork, the article examines the meanings of the ubiquitous and hopeful expression, the desire to 'menjadi manusia', to 'become somebody', as a measure of human‐ness, and of Marind, and Papuan identity. Parents admonish their children to go to school so that they can 'become somebody' – thereby challenging the stigmatizing perception that the Marind are backward and inferior to non‐Papuan Indonesians. The article analyses the life stories of several Marind young people, showing their aspirations and the precariousness and unpredictability of their life pathways, but also their adaptability and resilience. Abstract. The Evangelical Christian Church (GKI) in the Land of Papua is a multicultural church with 250 tribes in Papua and all ethnic groups inhabiting Papua Land. GKI in the Land of Papua is not only faced with a multicultural congregation, but also cultural changes that occur and affect the lives of the Papuan people. In such conditions, many problems arise, along with the emergence of primordialist thinking that leads to internal and external conflicts. Therefore, a multicultural theological education is needed that has an impact on harmony, where everyone can accept and appreciate the differences. In this article, I try to describe multicultural theological education using the concept of James A. Banks' multicultural education. Through dialogue between the concept of James A. Banks' multicultural education and GKI in the Land of Papua as a multicultural church, multicultural theological education is present for GKI in the Land of Papua, namely identity awareness, cultural communication, transformation, spirituality and values. Abstrak. Gereja Kristen Injili (GKI) di Tanah Papua merupakan gereja multikultural dengan 250 suku di Papua dan semua suku bangsa yang mendiami Tanah Papua. GKI di Tanah Papua tidak hanya berhadapan dengan jemaat yang multikultural, tetapi juga perubahan budaya yang terjadi dan memengaruhi kehidupan masyarakat Papua. Dalam kondisi demikian, banyak masalah yang muncul, seiring dengan munculnya pemikiran primodialisme yang berujung pada konflik internal maupun eksternal. Karena itu dibutuhkan sebuah pendidikan teologi multikultural yang berdampak pada keharmonisan, di mana setiap orang bisa saling menerima dan menghargai perbedaan. Dalam tulisan ini, saya berupaya menguraikan pendidikan teologi multikultural dengan menggunakan konsep pendidikan multikultural James A. Banks. Melalui dialog antara konsep pendidikan multikultural James A. Banks dan GKI di Tanah Papua sebagai gereja multikultural, maka hadir pendidikan teologi multikultural bagi GKI di Tanah Papua, yaitu kesadaran identitas, komunikasi budaya, transformasi, spiritualitas dan nilai.

The expansion policy regulated in Law Number 2 of 2021 mandates the formation of three new provinces in Papua, namely South Papua, Central Papua, and Mountainous Papua. They believe that expansion will bring more attention and resources to areas that have been neglected. The purpose of this study is to look at the impact of provincial expansion in Papua from the perspective of indigenous leaders, given that this policy has created six new provinces in the country. As part of the Indonesia government's efforts to improve administrative efficiency and accelerate development, these changes have generated a lot of response from the community, especially from indigenous Papuan leaders who have an important role in the country's social and cultural structure. This study uses a qualitative approach with literature review to reveal the subjective views and experiences of indigenous leaders related to provincial expansion. The results of the study show that traditional leaders support and oppose this expansion policy. Support comes from those who believe that expansion can accelerate progress and well-being, while objections stem from concerns that it could disrupt social and cultural stability. This research helps to understand the impact of expansion from the perspective of indigenous leaders, emphasizes that cultural and social aspects must be considered when making expansion policies, and suggests that an inclusive and local wisdom-based approach should be applied in Papua's development process. The Indonesia Constitution does not recognize the specialization of ethnicity, race and religion associated with the political rights of citizens. Diversity of ethnicities, races and religions but still one is the essence of the motto Bhinneka Tunggal Ika which is the foundation of the spirit of unity as stated in the 1945 Constitution. Like Sukarno and Mohammad Yamin, Indonesia nationalists also argue that Papua's political status as an integral part of Indonesia has been completed. This premise is based on the fact that the Papuan people through the DMP have chosen or decided to join Indonesia in Pepera. This study aims to unravel the long history of granting special autonomy to Papua, analyze the factors behind it, and evaluate the extent to which this policy has been successful in overcoming conflicts and realizing the welfare of the Papuan people. This type of research uses a qualitative method with a descriptive analytical approach. This research was obtained as a result of the granting of special autonomy to Papua as an effort by the Indonesia government to resolve prolonged conflicts and provide welfare for the Papuan people. However, the implementation of this special autonomy still faces various challenges, such as differences in perception between the central and regional governments, limited human resources, and there are still groups that want independence. The circulation of illegal firearms in Papua is the main driving factor in prolonging the separatist conflict in the region. These firearms are used by separatist groups to carry out acts of violence against security forces, civilians and public infrastructure. This resulted in loss of life and material, as well as hampering development and stability efforts in Papua. This journal discusses the sources and routes of distribution of illegal firearms in Papua, the impacts they cause, and the government's efforts to overcome them. Analysis shows that the circulation of illegal firearms originates from international smuggling networks, theft from security forces, and the manufacture of traditional firearms. The impacts include violence and human rights violations, disruption of security and stability, as well as obstacles to development and community welfare. The government's efforts to address the circulation of illegal firearms in Papua include law enforcement operations, cooperation with neighboring countries, and economic and social development programs. Comprehensive and sustainable efforts are needed from the government and various related parties to eradicate the circulation of illegal firearms and build peace in Papua. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Undergraduate students from Papua region are confronted with challenges that may hinder their academic career. Developing career adaptability has become a crucial factor in addressing such challenges effectively. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to examine how core self-evaluation (CSE) moderates the relationship between perceived parental support (PPS) and career adaptability. Participants comprised 180 undergraduate students from Papua region, and the instruments used for measurement were Career Adapt-Abilities Scale (CAAS), Social Provision, and CSE Scale. Data analysis was statistically conducted using the PROCESS macro by Hayes. This article explores the compromises made between local customs (adat) and Islamic religious practices in the daily lives of Muslim communities in Jayawijaya, Indonesia. Adat and Islam are two influential elements that profoundly shape societal norms, and their interaction often leads to a dynamic negotiation of values and practices. When Islamic teachings are introduced into a community with deeply rooted traditions, there is often tension between the demands of religion and established cultural customs. This phenomenon is not unique to Jayawijaya. Similarly, when Islam was first revealed in Arab society, it encountered established traditions and customs that had been passed on for generations. In Jayawijaya, local customs are deeply embedded in the lives of Muslims, including initiation ceremonies, marriages, funerals, and other sacred rituals. A significant aspect of these rituals is the communal pig feast, which traditionally occurs in the silimo (courtyard) of homes. Recognizing the need to harmonize these practices with Islamic teachings, the author endeavors to standardize these rituals by replacing pigs with animals that are halal (permissible) for consumption and aligning ceremonies with Islamic law. This study sheds light on the intricate balance between preserving cultural heritage and adhering to religious obligations, thereby providing a framework for similar contexts in which religion and tradition intersect. This study seeks to ascertain not just the economic repercussions of industrialization on the Mimika tribe in Papua Province, but also how these transformations are altering social and institutional dynamics, notably in terms of traditional leadership. This research was conducted from January 2024 to March 2024 focusing on the Comorian District, especially the Komoro Mimiko Tribe, Papua Province. The data collection techniques used in this study are in-depth interviews with members of the Comoro District, particularly the Comojima tribe, indigenous leaders, industrial workers, and other stakeholders, participatory observation, and holding FGDs with Komoria community groups. The results show that there has been a change in cultural values and traditions stemming from engagement with modern elements. Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) prioritizing cultural and ecological diversity advocate for the rights of indigenous communities. Conversely, governmental entities adopt a pragmatic stance, viewing modernization as integral to economic advancement. However, they also acknowledge the significance of preserving cultural sustainability and indigenous rights. To this end, they formulate policies facilitating the harmonization of modernities with traditional practices. The interaction between tradition and modernity sees complexity as well as divergence of views among various stakeholders. In general, these results underscore the difficulties and possibilities associated with striking a balance between modernization and indigenous traditions.

Papua is one of the provinces in Indonesia that has obtained special autonomy status based on Law Number 21 of 2001 concerning Special Autonomy for the Papuan People The granting of special autonomy is based on the consideration that the Indonesian government system according to the 1945 Constitution recognizes and respects units of regional government that are special or special in nature. Theoretically, the policy of granting special autonomy status to Papua Province will be effective in improving the welfare of the Papuan people. Because with special autonomy, the Papuan government and people have broader authority to regulate and manage their interests according to their own initiative, including regulating the utilization of Papua's natural resources for the prosperity and welfare of the Papuan people. This study is a normative legal research. Papua is a province in Indonesia that has the distinctiveness of indigenous peoples and their customary land rights, which until now continue to fight for recognition from the government. These efforts were responded to by the enactment of Law Number 21 of 2001 concerning Special Autonomy for the Papuan People, along with its amendments. The law is further elaborated through the Ulayat Rights Regional Regulation.

The issue of human rights in Papua has received considerable scholarly attention in recent years. Therefore, this study uses the comprehensive Scopus database to evaluate global trends in publications related to human rights in Papua. Through bibliometric analysis, the study covers the period from 1981 to 2023. The data was visualised and analysed using VOSviewer software. The results showed that international publications on human rights in Papua covered various topics such as Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, indigenous peoples, West Papua, violence, human rights, geopolitics, foreign policy, investigative journalism, indigenous peoples and local communities, collaborative journalism, pregnant women, separatism and malaria. Australia emerged as the leading country of publication, with many authors associated with its institutions. The classification of human rights issues in this study is divided into three dimensions, namely: a) International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights; b) International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination; c) International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.

A new species from Papua, Indonesia, Cyme maartjekijneae spec. nov., is described. The adult and genitalia are illustrated. A comparison is made with Cyme biagi (Bethune-Baker, 1908) with which it shares some internal similarities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The "Hand of Love (Bantuan Tangan Kasih) Assistance Program" under the leadership of Paulus Waterpauw from 2020-2022 in West Papua Province is investigated in this study. The data used here were firsthand information directly related to the implementation of the program and its implementation, along with documents, reports, and literature related to Pancasila values, regional leadership, and specific programs. The results of the research are discussed based on the policy implementation of Van Meter and Van Horn (1975), which emphasizes six dimensions, namely policy goals and objectives, policy resources, characteristics of implementing agents, implementing attitudes, communication between implementing organizations, and socio-economic and political environment. The findings show that the success of the implementation process of the Hand of Love Assistance Program is greatly influenced by the characteristics of the implementers. The hedonistic lifestyle after the enactment of the Special Autonomy has eroded the morality of almost some state administrators. Papua, Indonesia, is a region of cultural and religious diversity. However, in facing social challenges, the development of youth character has become a critical issue. The Research and Development Centre for Religion, Ministry of Religious Affairs, Republic of Indonesia, conducted a survey of secondary schools. In 2021, the high school student index in Papua Province was below the national average. The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship and level of correlation between religiosity and integrity among youth in Papua. We employed Christian biblical figures as models to illustrate their methods of developing and maintaining moral and ethical attributes. The method used is a quantitative approach with descriptive and correlational techniques. The findings indicate a significant positive correlation (0.629) between the religious dimension and the integrity dimension. This demonstrates a strong relationship between these two dimensions. The conclusion of this study essentially implies that there is a beneficial and strong relationship between religious discipline and integrity. This suggests that the two dimensions work together to shape and develop the personality of the younger generation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Greater Bird-of-Paradise (Paradisaea apoda) is a bird that performs a courtship display (lekking) to attract females during the mating season. The objective of this study was to examine the display behavior of adult and sub-adult males on lek trees as a learning process by a sub-adult and identify the lek trees. The research was conducted in the Tunas Timber Lestari Ltd. Production Forest in central mainland Papua, in a non-breeding season. After a lek tree was found, a video recording was conducted. Analysis was performed from the video. The lek tree was an emergent species with a dense canopy. An adult male was observed to perform a dance display in front of sub-adult males, even in the absence of females. When adult males performed display, the sub-adult were observed the adult males in an upside-down position. The sub-adult also danced, but not as complete as the adult, suggesting that there was a learning process by the sub-adult. This study revealed that the sub-adult/young males of the bird-of-paradise has the ability to dance inherit from their fathers, and then perfect the dance through practice and watching adults. The purpose of this paper is to obtain an analysis of Indonesia's partnership with Pacific countries and the prospect of Papua becoming a Hub or liaison between Indonesia and Pacific countries. Indonesia's national interest may also make Papua one of the strategic locations to become a gateway in the cooperation scheme that will be built within the framework of the Pacific Elevation introduced by Indonesia in 2019 in New Zealand for Indonesian overseas politics to Pacific countries. From here the concept of "Pacific elevation" can simply be interpreted as Indonesia's ongoing efforts to improve and further strengthen friendships and partnerships with its various partners in the Pacific region. This research uses a qualitative research method in which it finds data based on secondary data through literature and literature studies of both print and electronic media including data via the internet. The data collected is then processed using data triangulation analysis techniques, namely collecting, verifying and finding the truth in the data to be presented. The output of this research is the importance of Indonesia building partnership relationships with south Pacific countries in order to achieve Indonesia's national goals so that harmonious relations are built in the region and economic, social and cultural activities, especially Melanesian culture, can be well established with these countries. On the ot her hand, this new era of Indonesia's partnership with the Pacific allows Papua to become a gateway for economic, social and cultural activities with South Pacific countries so that the spirit of Pacific Elevation is expected to minimize issues related to an independent Papua that will disrupt Indonesia's domestic stability and also in the international environment or international forums. This research is a continuation of research and service as well as articles presented in international seminars and Bapenas FGDs. Research, PkM, International Seminars and FGDs from BAPENAS that have been carried out provide an illustration that Papua has great potential in local food, especially those made from sago. This is supported by the availability of sago forests and people who are starting to understand the preservation of sago forests and people who are creative in processing sago food in various preparations. However, the community has not yet found the right form to promote local food well and have a big impact. Conditions like this provide an opportunity for the government and academics to play a role in formulating the right strategy and realizing it in a major activity that can be known by many people nationally and internationally. One of the activities that can support the condition of people who are in this position is the government implementing a Local Food Culture Festival which is held on a scheduled schedule every year. This research aims to create a management model for local food culture festivals which is carried out in 2 (two) stages, namely Phase I (2023) sharing knowledge of the research team with festival management experts at UNY as well as concocting a suitable or appropriate form for festival management in Merauke Regency, as well as Benchmarking at several Cultural Festivals organized by the Yogyakarta Special Region Government (DIY) in September 2023, and Phase II (2024) the research team will carry out education and FGDs for 3 days for the Tourism and Culture Offices of Merauke Regency and South Papua Province as well as the candidates festival participants from the local food business community. The results of this research found that organizing a festival requires high synergy from the organizing team itself and from the government and sponsors. The most important thing is that it is necessary to carry out a survey or initial analysis of the festival theme which can describe the vision of the activities, potential and targets to be achieved by the festival. The budget and activity plan must be determined well in advance so that it can be included in the annual expenditure of sponsors or local governments. The selection of the organizing team must also be a professional team or a combination of a professional team and the sponsor, so that the implementation can go according to plan. Apart from that, the community must also be involved or empowered to participate. What is different about festivals held in the Papua region is the very dominant role of local communities involved in helping to improve the economy of the local population and promoting existing Papuan culture, apart from that there is still a lack of third parties who are willing to sponsor festival activities in Papua, especially Papuan cultural and local food festival. This research reveals critically rather than using images of modern development and progress on Indigenous Papuans (OAP) who are often demanded to engage in social change by ignoring one's identity. The accumulation of OAP disillusionment that began in the history of the Act of Free Choice continued with the neglect of cultural rights as a reflection of the collective dignity that is still running. This triggered some OAP segments who called themselves independent Papuan groups to choose to garner international support in efforts to secede principles. As done by Benny Wenda as OAP through international forums to encourage the fulfillment of political rights caused by the closed access to the Papuan people's movement in fighting for the issue of Free Papua. He described the resistance of Papuan identity to expand the target domain of its supporter audience. Sporadically through the use of international civil society networks, the authors highlight the advocacy strategies undertaken Transnational Advocacy Network (TAN) through the #PapuanLivesMatter campaign that raised the existence of Benny Wenda in representing Free Papua in the midst of fragmentation that occurred. So the research questions in this study are: What is Benny Wenda's strategy in representing an independent Papua in the midst of fragmentation of separatist groups in Papua? Local wisdom refers to the cultural heritage of a community, which is derived from its cultural origins and includes a wide range of values, rituals and traditions. Ondofolo is the current paramount chief of the Sentani community in Papua province, a position that remains in effect at the moment. The local community holds Ondofolo’s leadership in high esteem and places substantial trust in it. The research aims to investigate the function of Ondofolo within religious congregations using a qualitative phenomenological design approach. Data were gathered via participatory observations, interviews with Ondofolo, leaders of prayer rooms and Islamic boarding schools and a review of literature and research conducted in the indigenous area of Sentani. The local knowledge of Sentani ‘Ondofolo’ plays a crucial role in fostering the religious community by embodying the fundamental qualities of leadership, peace, love and brotherhood found in the Bible. The preservation of wisdom in all its manifestations is imperative, as it represents an irreplaceable cultural legacy. Intradisciplinary and/or interdisciplinary implications: This study applies the interdisciplinary characteristics of contextual theology to Ondofolo’s leadership of the religious congregation in Papua, drawing on Christian wisdom. The findings positively impact the formation of religious communities in Sentani, Papua. They also present a viable leadership model specific to the local context and can be used as an option for guiding the faithful community in Indonesia.

Papua, a resource-rich region in Indonesia, faces significant security challenges due to the presence of armed criminal groups (KKB). The eradication of KKB in this area requires advanced tools, among which sensing technology shows considerable promise. Sensing technologies, including satellites and drones, can offer precise and real-time data crucial for monitoring and responding to KKB activities. However, the effective deployment of these technologies is impeded by Papua's complex geographical terrain, extreme weather conditions, and inadequate infrastructure. This study aims to explore the potential of sensing technology in combating KKB by addressing these specific challenges and proposing strategies to optimize its use. Through a systematic literature review, the research identifies effective sensing methods and highlights the obstacles encountered in similar contexts. Findings suggest that adaptive technology development, increased resilience to weather conditions, and improvements in infrastructure are essential for maximizing the benefits of sensing technology. This research contributes to the development of effective strategies for eradicating KKB and enhancing security in Papua, emphasizing the need for coordinated efforts between government, research institutions, and the private sector to address the region's unique challenges.

Currently, the political transaction through trade-off anak adat (customary child) status is wider applied in Papua local election. Benefiting from the direct elections, the elites competed for political power in the regions by mobilizing ethno-religious sentiments and utilizing money-politics. The voters, in return, behave as clients as they seek to gain material benefits from their preferred candidates in exchange for political loyalty. This condition caused the high-cost politics during the local election. Based on this problem, this paper attempts to analyze the hijacking of adat (customs) through trade-off anak adat status as a form of political transaction which impacted to high-cost politics. This study cultivates the theory of political transactions to analyze the political transaction in Papua local election especially in the gubernatorial election 2018 and election of DPRD (Regional Representative Council)’s member in 2019. This form of political transaction has caused the high-cost of local election in Papua, which is not only in the form of money, but also carried the social cultural high-cost impact. Of course, vote buying will make the candidates have to spend a lot of money. The trade-off of anak adat status from other than Papuan through buying and selling mechanism rather than using achievement and acknowledgement from the adat community would harm the Papuans. Moreover, this practice has brought detrimental destruction to the socio-cultural values of Papuan adat community. This study is qualitative research that use political approach to observe the local election processes in Papua. We used the criteria of credibility and confirmability to validate the data in our qualitative research.

The Greater Bird-of-Paradise (Paradisaea apoda) is a bird that performs a courtship display (lekking) to attract females during the mating season. The objective of this study was to examine the display behavior of adult and sub-adult males on lek trees as a learning process by a sub-adult and identify the lek trees. The research was conducted in the Tunas Timber Lestari Ltd. Production Forest in central mainland Papua, in a non-breeding season. After a lek tree was found, a video recording was conducted. Analysis was performed from the video. The lek tree was an emergent species with a dense canopy. An adult male was observed to perform a dance display in front of sub-adult males, even in the absence of females. When adult males performed display, the sub-adult were observed the adult males in an upside-down position. The sub-adult also danced, but not as complete as the adult, suggesting that there was a learning process by the sub-adult. This study revealed that the sub-adult/young males of the bird-of-paradise has the ability to dance inherit from their fathers, and then perfect the dance through practice and watching adults. The lek tree surely need to be protected for the survival for this species.

This research was motivated by the UNIMUDA Sorong, one of the multicultural campuses in Papua. This research aimed to measure the level of application and understanding of students at the Department of Pancasila and Citizenship Education, Universitas Pendidikan Muhammadiyah (hence: UNIMUDA) Sorong, in strengthening the existence of multiculturalism values in the academic environment. This research was conducted using a qualitative approach with descriptive methods. The subjects and objects of this research were conducted in the Department of Pancasila and Citizenship Education. The results of this study indicated that the value of multiculturalism had been integrated into the department's curriculum. Besides, students from various ethnic, racial, and religious backgrounds could apply the value of multiculturalism to the Papuan environment. Then, students believed that citizenship within the scope of multiculturalism played the most important role in advancing the diversity of Indonesians, so diversity is not a source of conflict but rather for mutual tolerance and mutual respect in building the foundation of Indonesia's ethnic diversity.

The threat of extinction of Papuan regional languages ​​has given rise to Perbup policy Number 21 of 2021 concerning the implementation of local mother tongue curriculum learning in Papua. This PKM activity aims to increase digital literacy through the use of the Papuan Regional Language Digital Dictionary and the interactive mulok media portal as a mulok learning reference for teachers and students at SDN Inpres Doyo Lama, Waibu District, Sentani, Papua so as to preserve the mother tongue which is almost extinct. Several solutions to problems that are considered to be partners' priorities are resolved through socialization methods, transfer of science and technology, appropriate technology (TTG), training & mentoring on the use of TTG and evaluation of PKM activities. The results of this service activity had a positive impact on partners with interval values ​​for the technology infrastructure aspect of 80-90%, the digital literacy aspect of 80-90% and the digital skills aspect of 60-78% according to the results of the participant questionnaire. Strengthening is needed to further improve partners' digital skills through knowledge transfer efforts through technical guidebooks for TTG management so that partners' skills increase continuously and independently.

Abstract Background By 2022, the Government of Indonesia had successfully eliminated malaria in 389 out of 514 districts but continues to face a challenge in Eastern Indonesia where 95% of the total 2021 malaria cases were reported from Papua, West Papua and Nusa Tenggara Timur provinces. There is an increased recognition that malaria elimination will require a better understanding of the human behavioural factors hindering malaria prevention and treatment, informed by local context and local practice. Methods This research used a light-touch immersion research approach. Field researchers lived in communities over several days to gather data through informal conversations, group-based discussions using visual tools, participant observation and direct experience. The study was conducted in four high malaria endemic areas in Papua, West Papua, and Sumba Islands in Nusa Tenggara Timur. Results The research highlights how people’s perception of malaria has changed since the introduction of effective treatment which, in turn, has contributed to a casual attitude towards early testing and adherence to malaria treatment. It also confirms that people rarely accept there is a link between mosquitoes and malaria based on their experience but nevertheless take precautions against the annoyance of mosquitoes. There is widespread recognition that babies and small children, elderly and incomers are more likely to be seriously affected by malaria and separately, more troubled by mosquitoes than indigenous adult populations. This is primarily explained by acclimatization and strong immune systems among the latter. Conclusions Using immersion research enabled behaviour research within a naturalistic setting, which in turn enabled experiential-led analysis of findings and revealed previously unrecognized insights into attitudes towards malaria in Eastern Indonesia. The research provides explanations of people’s lack of motivation to consistently use bed nets, seek early diagnosis or complete courses of treatment. The felt concern for the wellbeing of vulnerable populations highlighted during light touch immersion provides an entry point for future social behaviour change communication interventions. Rather than trying to explain transmission to people who deny this connection, the research concludes that it may be better to focus separately on the two problems of malaria and mosquitoes (especially for vulnerable groups) thereby resonating with local people’s own experience and felt concerns.

Rumah kancingan is a distinctive house used by residents of Merauke, Papua. The house is unique because it combines walls made of both orthotropic and isotropic materials, which is a combination of brick walls and wooden frames, built from isotropic and orthotropic materials, respectively. As a result, this study aimed to provide a better understanding of Rumah kancingan in Merauke and explore new information about its architectural design. A typology method was used through an interpretive method to analyze 100 samples. The objective was to describe and categorize them based on architectural aspects, encircling house type (floor plan), and visual features such as roof shape, entrance, ornaments, and building materials. Despite wood being the main structural and framing material, the results showed that the varied size of the houses did not necessarily limit the spaciousness of the rooms, considering the dimensional constraints of wood. The roof shape was an indicator of the construction era and the terrace served as additional space for adding aesthetic value to the house. Additionally, the presence of a terrace allowed for more diverse roof designs, contributing to a modern appearance. Ornaments were not commonly found in the place. It should be acknowledged that older houses tended to emphasize their kancingan construction, while newer ones concealed the structure for a more modern and sturdy look. Finally, the type of wood and its dimensions used in construction could help identify the era of Rumah kancingan development.

The advent of the dog is widely recognised as a major development in the economic organisation of ancient and contemporary hunter‐gatherer and agricultural societies. Although the utility of dogs in assisting recent historical and contemporary New Guinean hunters is commonly emphasised in anthropological discourse, to date there has been no critical evaluation of their actual contributions to hunting yields and nutrition. As a result, it remains unclear what significance the advent of hunting dogs is likely to have had for prehistoric economies in New Guinea. Here we present a comprehensive synthesis and review of the evidence for the use of dogs in hunting within New Guinea, focusing on the ways in which they assist; what kinds of game they help to capture; the degree to which they improve hunting yields and efficiency; and how this affects the taxonomic makeup and average body‐size of game in human diets. We then apply the findings to a consideration of how dogs likely affected the prehistoric economies of New Guinea after their introduction in the Late Holocene. As reliance on hunting dogs tends to produce over‐representation of a few mammal species within hunting yields, we identify potential zooarchaeological signatures for the use of dogs, and discuss excavated sites at which these may be visible. Dogs have a transformative effect on the outcomes of hunting in New Guinea's environments, and their novel use likely marked a significant development in the island's economies which has previously been underestimated. Introduction: Arthropod-borne diseases are infectious diseases mediated by mosquitoes that have incurred a considerable health problem. The prevalence of this disease is notably high in some rural areas, such as Papua, due to some environmental conditions that support mosquitoes breeding sites and leads to high rate of disease transmission. Methods: This experimental research aims to determine the breeding site, mosquitos’ diversity, and susceptibility to temephos insecticide through an entomological survey to find out the breeding site of the larvae. The positive breeding sites of the larva were captured and identified in the laboratory. The temephos test were carried out for each species of larvae at dose 0,02 ppm for Aedes albopictus and Culex sp, and 0.25 ppm for Anopheles sp. Results and Discussion: Entomology survey showed that 5 of 27 stagnant water were positive breeding site of mosquito larvae. The following larvae were found: Aedes sp, Culex sp and Anopheles sp. Culex sp and Anopheles sp prefer dirty stagnant water covered with leaves, while Aedes albopictus likes puddles that are exposed to direct sunlight. The three species were known to be susceptible to temephos. Conclusion: There are three species of Diptera in Naena Muktipura village, with different characteristics of breeding site, but those mosquitoes are all susceptible to temephos.

The issues with indigenous peoples are very frequent, the impact of development, investment, and deforestation is accompanied by land conversion activities for oil palm plantations and mining, making the rights of indigenous peoples marginalized. In this context, this study seeks to investigate: (1). What problems are experienced by the Papuan Indigenous Peoples and what protection should be accepted by legal and human rights approaches? (2) What are the challenges of Special Autonomy in Papua following the stipulation of the latest Special Autonomy Law, especially in Southwest Papua, and what kind of projections and challenges are needed to protect the Papuan people at large? This research uses socio-legal methods to identify legal procedures related to socio-cultural and political-economic aspects of the Papuan community. The result of this study shows that several points are specified to protect Indigenous Peoples rights in Papua, especially after Special Autonomy, namely the importance of protecting the human rights of Indigenous Peoples related to the right to self-determination, recognition of adat rights, and basic rights that should have affirmative policies carried out by the state to ensure that Indigenous Peoples can play a major role in protecting the environment and contributing to climate change prevention. Investment or state authority must be limited to protect, promote, and respect Indigenous Peoples in Papua and also Southwest Papuans. Then, with regard to the DOB in Papua, of course, it must be returned to its noble goal of protecting the rights of the Papuan people in realizing welfare and independence. Abuse of various forms of authority, including special autonomy funds in Papua must be condemned and strictly processed. Abstrak Problematika terhadap masyarakat adat sangat sering terjadi, dampak pembangunan, investasi, deforestasi disertai dengan aktivitas alih-fungsi lahan untuk perkebunan kelapa sawit dan pertambangan, menjadikan hak-hak masyarakat hukum adat menjadi tersingkirkan. Pada konteks ini kita perlu mengidentifikasi lebih dalam: (1). Bagaimana problematika yang dialami MHA Papua dan perlindungan yang harusnya diterima pendekatan hukum dan HAM; (2). Bagaimana tantangan Otsus Papua pasca UU Otsus terbaru, khususnya di Papua Barat Daya, proyeksi dan tantangan seperti apa yang dibutuhkan untuk melindungi masyarakat Papua secara luas. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode sosio-legal untuk mengidentifikasi prosedur hukum serta lebih dari itu berkaitan dengan aspek sosio-kultur, dan politik-ekonomi masyarakat Papua. Hasil penelitian ini adalahsetidaknya ada beberapa point untuk melindungi hak MHA di Papua khususnya pasca Otsus, yaitu pentingnya melidungi hak asasi dari MHA, berkaitan dengan hak menentukan nasibnya sendiri, pengakuan terhadap hak ulayat, serta hak-hak dasar yang harusnya ada kebijakan afirmatif yang dilakukan oleh negara untuk meastikan bahwa MHA dapat menjalankan peran besarnya dalam melindungi lingkungan hidup serta berkontribusi terhadap pencegahan perubahan iklim. Atas nama investasi atau otoritas negara yang berlebih, harus dibatasi dalam rangka perlindungan, pemajuan, dan penghormatan terhadap MHA, khususnya MHA di Papua. Kemudian, berkaitan dengan DOB di Papua termasuk di Papua Barat Daya, tentu harus dikembalikan kepada tujuan mulianya untuk melindungi hak masyarakat Papua dalam mewujudkan kesejahteraan dan kemandirian.

The Papua secessionist movement hinders Indonesia's stability efforts. The government has implemented measures, deploying intelligence for managing social crises as defined by Law 24 of 2007 on Disaster Management. The present study examines the separatist movement in Papua, its resultant societal upheaval, and the crucial role of intelligence in mitigating this societal crisis. The study explores applying Human-Made Disaster Intelligence, using AI and data tech, to mitigate risks in the Papua case. This study employs a literature review with 26 sources to explore challenges posed by separatist and terrorist movements in Papua. Data is gathered from official sources, excluding personal websites and social media. The study was conducted from January to March 2023. Data analysis utilizes descriptive narratives to qualitatively explore separatist and terrorist movements, social disasters, intelligence, and the Papua region. The research findings demonstrate that the separatist movement in Papua has resulted in a significant societal calamity, causing conflicts, casualties, and economic challenges. Man-made disaster intelligence is proposed to manage social disasters by collecting and analyzing data related to separatist activities. Intelligence plays a crucial role in detecting and mitigating risks associated with separatism, offering preventive and remedial measures. Challenges include limited resources and the need for collaboration among intelligence agencies. Strategic measures to enhance intelligence involve increased resources, collaboration, transparency, and the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for data analysis. The complexity of using AI in countering separatist movements requires careful consideration of data sources, collection methods, and reliability measures.

Since Indonesia gained independence in 1945, security dynamics have been intricately linked with conflict. The emergence of separatist movements, such as the Free Papua Movement or Free Papua Organization (Organisasi Papua Merdeka or OPM), has significantly disrupted Indonesia’s stability. This study aims to analyze the actions undertaken by OPM in their quest for independence, utilizing the perspective of the Montevideo Convention of 1933. Employing a qualitative descriptive research methodology, this research relies on secondary data from a literature review focused on the Papua region. The study reveals several key findings: The size and stability of a population are critical factors for the existence of a state. West Papua, with a population of 1.15 million, plays a pivotal role. The establishment of well-defined territories is crucial for distinguishing and representing nations. The proposed establishment of the Republic of West Papua has garnered support and recognition from nations like Vanuatu. Moreover, the Republic of West Papua actively engages in international organizations such as UNPO. Establishing and exercising effective government control over a nation’s territory is essential for asserting sovereignty and maintaining independence. This is exemplified by the Papua National Manifesto and the declaration of Papua’s independence in 1961. Building and maintaining relationships with other countries necessitate active participation in the global community. International recognition and support play pivotal roles in achieving long-term political goals. Challenges related to democracy, human rights, and environmental issues pose significant hurdles to Indonesia’s diplomatic relations. The Responsibility to Protect (R2P) principle offers a framework for preventing mass atrocities and holding state actors accountable for crimes against humanity. International cooperation and dialogue are imperative in addressing these complex issues and safeguarding the well-being of affected populations.

Background: Female Athletes Triad (FAT) is a syndrome characterized by impaired energy availability, menstrual dysfunction, and low bone density. FAT might interfere with the health and performance of young female athletes in training and competition, which causes a decrease in achievement. Research on FAT is still limited in Indonesia, especially on indigenous Papuans. Objectives: To obtain a description of young Papuan female athletes' knowledge of FAT, including the three main components of FAT: danger, impacts, and risk factors for FAT. Methods: The total sample was 61 young female athletes with a convenience sampling technique. The survey method used a questionnaire consisting of questions related to athlete characteristics (age, ethnicity, training duration, and sports) and eight questions about FAT knowledge; it includes the three main components of FAT (osteoporosis, menstrual disorders, eating disorders), dangers and impacts, and the risk factors (age and physical activity). Results: Young Papua female athletes (80.33%) lacked knowledge about FAT. Most athletes (80.33%) had never heard of FAT. Most of the sample failed to identify FAT's three main components and risk factors correctly. Only five athletes (8.20%) correctly answered questions about fracture occurrence. Only six athletes (9.84%) could identify FAT components entirely and correctly, and about 11 (18.30%) answered correctly regarding the risk of excessive physical activity in athletes. Finally, only 23 athletes (37.70%) correctly answered questions about age. Conclusions: Young female Papuan athletes lack knowledge about the FAT components and risk factors.

Subsistence hunting has sustained human populations in New Guinea for millennia, without seriously affecting the highest levels of biodiversity on Earth. Recent changes to hunting practices, demographic, social and economic context and the introduction of large exotic species has significantly altered the dynamic of hunting and its potential effects in north-west New Guinea. In this paper we examine contemporary hunting practices of six ethnic groups from highland to coastal sites throughout Papua and West Papua provinces of Indonesia. Semi-structured interviews were used to examine hunting practices as well as customary rules and attitudes associated with hunting in the region and how they have changed in living memory. Each group indicated traditional restrictions on at least one of target, tool, timing or tenure, albeit in varied ways. Six different hunting tools were used and each hunter typically combined several tools while hunting. Religious and cultural factors deeply influenced hunting practices among the communities. We discuss the implications of these findings and conclude with recommendations to integrate local, village level governance and customary practices with regional and national law for more effective conservation and management of wildlife in the region while simultaneously respecting cultural heritage and local ecological knowledge. Local wisdom refers to the cultural heritage of a community, which is derived from its cultural origins and includes a wide range of values, rituals and traditions. Ondofolo is the current paramount chief of the Sentani community in Papua province, a position that remains in effect at the moment. The local community holds Ondofolo's leadership in high esteem and places substantial trust in it. The research aims to investigate the function of Ondofolo within religious congregations using a qualitative phenomenological design approach. Data were gathered via participatory observations, interviews with Ondofolo, leaders of prayer rooms and Islamic boarding schools and a review of literature and research conducted in the indigenous area of Sentani. The local knowledge of Sentani 'Ondofolo' plays a crucial role in fostering the religious community by embodying the fundamental qualities of leadership, peace, love and brotherhood found in the Bible. The preservation of wisdom in all its manifestations is imperative, as it represents an irreplaceable cultural legacy. Intradisciplinary and/or interdisciplinary implications: This study applies the interdisciplinary characteristics of contextual theology to Ondofolo's leadership of the religious congregation in Papua, drawing on Christian wisdom. The findings positively impact the formation of religious communities in Sentani, Papua. This paper identifies the reasons children and young people leave school early in Merauke, Papua, and advances education policy initiatives to address these causes. Indonesia has a policy of 12 years of compulsory schooling, but many in Papua leave school early. The Indonesian government considers that children mainly leave school early for economic reasons, and addresses the problem through its social welfare programmes, as well as 'supply- side' factors such as the number of schools. This paper uses mainly ethnographic data, especially life histories collected from 22 young people and adults who left school early, to argue that besides economic reasons, the on-again- off-again history of schooling, the extremely problematic nature of that schooling, as well as socio-cultural causes such as the stigmatisation of the local Marind people, self-stigmatisation and cultural discontinuity, combine to push children to leave school early.
