The English syllabus provides the students at the Maritime Vocational Schools (MVS) with necessary Maritime English (ME) competence compatible with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) curriculum, or the Indonesian Seafarers Quality Standard System (QSS) Curriculum (adapted from the IMO, in an Indonesian context). The gap in the ME learning process which represents a crucial problem in the Indonesian MVS is the availability of a syllabus for the subject. This study aims to evaluate the existing ME syllabus from the 2013 Curriculum for the MVS. This evaluation seeks to discover whether the given syllabus fulfills the real demands of the workplace by comparing it with the competencies presented by the QSS Curriculum. The result of this evaluation is to redesign ME competencies according to the international maritime workplace requirements. Observations, questionnaires, and interviews regarding the English competencies used on board ship were utilized to gather qualitative and quantitative data. The results indicated that (1) the current ME syllabus is acceptable for six out of the eight competencies proven to be needed for deck officer class IV, and (2) a new ME syllabus consisting of fourteen ME competencies according to the 2013 curriculum, The results of a needs analysis in the maritime workplace is proposed. more...

ICT is an important part of the development of secondary education in many countries and becomes a debate subject for its impact on behavior, culture, and society. The addition of new technologies in learning process, especially Vocational Education (VE) can attract attention and even increase the learning speed. However, attentions must be placed to avoid excessive use and accomplishment of material delivery according to the requirements framework. The research focus is to develop an E-Learning based interactive multimedia AutoCAD 3D as an effective learning strategy in VE. The method used in this research is Research and Development (R&D). The instrument of this study are feasibility questionnaire for the expert team and the responses questionnaire for students after using E-Learning interactive multimedia. The study was conducted on 34 students of ± 18-20 years old. Material experts and media experts recommend that AutoCAD 3D Interactive Multimedia meet the "Very Good" criteria. Acknowledgement is given by the opinions of students expressing the same thing, that this media is "Very Good" and can meet the current learning criteria. The quality of teacher learning practices currently continues to be improved through various training programs, mentoring, and evaluations from Indonesian government support. The 21st-century teacher's ability to develop learning technology is a cooperative learning approach and multidisciplinary integration of science to solve surrounding problems. This study describes the effectiveness and benefits of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) in the Automotive Engineering Competency with the Engineering Design Process (EDP) approach in the "motorcycle burglary case studies." This research is a type of pre-experimental design in the form of a pretest-posttest group design. The purposive sampling technique was carried out to find out the sample of students in one of the vocational schools Yogyakarta, Indonesia in 2019. The results showed that (1) the assessment of lesson plan in the form of review and supervision was declared complete; (2) aspects of the STEM-EDP assessment consist of formative tests, the 1st Student Worksheet, the 2nd Student Worksheet, and Products which stated in the seven stages of EDP; (3) Wilcoxon test, Z = -4.86 with significance (p) = 0.00 <0.05, illustrates that STEM-EDP is effective than summative learning, and can improve learning. more...

BNSP technical competence gets high legality on the side of the industry, while not all test participants can acquire it. Until now, studies that discuss relevant competency test models on automotive engine technology are still limited, not specific or even non-existent. The objective of this research is to produce a Competency Test Model for Engine Tune Up-System Injection and determine the characteristics after the model is applied. The subject of development consists of assesses (vocational education graduates, workers and educators), experts, and assessors from related Professional Certification Institutions (LSP). Instrument validation was conducted through expert judgment and feasibility trials. Reliability tests were performed using alpha and interrater coefficient analysis. The results of the test analysis include (1) competency test model assessment using the CBA approach; (2) competency dimension elements in instruments development are in the form of TS, TMS, CMS, EMS, and JRES; and (3) the characteristics of competency assessment include equipment verification of adequacy, avoiding impartiality, meeting requirements, transparent and accountable, and able to produce recommendations as "competent" and "non-competent". This study aims to formulate the future competencies of vocational needed by the world of work, and find the main aspects that graduates must have to support them in the world of work. This study used quantitative inquiry approaches with questionnaire or inventory, focus group discussion, interview, literature review, and documentation as the methods of data collection. The subjects of the study were 18 experienced teachers from 18 vocational school, 15 industries representatives, 6 vocational education experts, and 4 vocational education practice. Data were analysed descriptively. The results show that the future of vocational competence consist of specific competencies in the form of high-level technical skills supported by general competencies such as technology and information skill, honesty, mastering foreign languages, discipline, critical thinking, creatively and innovatively, responsible, attitude, teamwork, and communication skills. This study explores the experiences of batik craftsmen regarding capacity transformation during the COVID-19 pandemic and the challenges of batik craftsmen to industry 4.0. A case study is defined as a research approach. Data were collected through observations and interviews with well-known batik owners (medium level) in Kulon Progo, Yogyakarta. The capacity transformation that they have carried out has become a recommendation for batik craftsmen at the micro and small levels. The data were analyzed thematically with the help of NVivo through the stages of open coding, axial coding, and generic coding. The findings of this study resulted in the concept of transformation of batik craftsmen influenced by the motivation by the owner, shifting motifs and motif innovation according to the needs, production processes and technology involvement, marketing strategies and marketing or digital marketing evaluations. The limitations of teachers in vocational schools have been discussed and debated. This situation is contrary to professional teachers and teacher quality. Thus, vocational school administrators have to have standards to become vocational teachers. The experience of novice teachers is constructed to provide several information and input to vocational education providers. Qualitative research with a descriptive analysis approach was carried out. A total of 11 vocational teachers who are beginners in their careers (1-3 years of teaching) were selected to be participants. Open coding and axial coding were used in data analysis. The findings in the study that teachers' experiences are identified in four aspects, namely understanding, activities, problems, and the use of technology in their work. The important finding is that increasing the age of work experience increases social and professional competence and the age of beginner vocational teachers to have better technology closeness.
