Background and Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between neuropathic pain and CREB-binding protein (CBP) and methyl-CpG-binding protein 2 (MeCP2) expression levels in a rat model with spared nerve injury (SNI). Materials and Methods: Rat (male Sprague-Dawley white rats) models with surgical SNI (n = 6) were prepared, and naive rats (n = 5) were used as controls. The expression levels of CBP and MeCP2 in the spinal cord and dorsal root ganglion (DRG) were compared through immunohistochemistry at 7 and 14 days after surgery. The relationship between neuropathic pain and CBP/MeCP2 was also analyzed through intrathecal siRNA administration. Results: SNI induced a significant increase in the number of CBPs in L4 compared with contralateral DRG as well as with naive rats. The number of MeCP2 cells in the dorsal horn on the ipsilateral side decreased significantly compared with the contralateral dorsal horn and the control group. SNI induced a significant decrease in the number of MeCP2 neurons in the L4 ipsilateral DRG compared with the contralateral DRG and naive rats. The intrathecal injection of CBP siRNA significantly inhibited mechanical allodynia induced by SNI compared with non-targeting siRNA treatment. MeCP2 siRNA injection showed no significant effect on mechanical allodynia. Conclusions: The results suggest that CBP and MeCP2 may play an important role in the generation of neuropathic pain following peripheral nerve injury. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The study aimed to investigate the incidence of musculoskeletal injuries among table tennis players and identify their associated risk factors. We conducted a literature search in online databases using relevant search terms related to "table tennis" and "injury". To compare the rate of injuries according to player-related variables, we extracted information on sex, level of games, circumstances of injury, and duration of sport absence after injury. Furthermore, we calculated the odds ratios based on the number of injuries according to variables. Eight articles included 873 professional table tennis players, revealing an overall musculoskeletal injury rate of 3.6% (31 musculoskeletal injuries). The incidence was 10.0 injuries per 1,000 playing hours (range, 0–27.0). The rate of musculoskeletal injuries for female and male players were 3.2% and 3.8%, respectively, and those for Summer Olympic Games, Asian Games, and domestic national games was 4.8%, 15.4%, and 0%, respectively. More than half (52%) of injuries occurred during training, and most injuries (64%) were of a nature that did not cause time loss. This review provides valuable information about the incidence of musculoskeletal injuries in table tennis competitions. However, owing to the limitations of this study in identifying injury-related risk factors, future studies analyzing comprehensive variables are required. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Blended cement is commonly used for producing sustainable concretes. This paper presents an experimental study and an optimization design of a low-CO2 quaternary binder containing calcined clay, slag, and limestone using the response surface method. First, a Box–Behnken design with three influencing factors and three levels was used for the combination design of the quaternary composite cement. The lower limit of the mineral admixtures was 0%. The upper limits of slag, calcined clay, and limestone powder were 30%, 20%, and 10%, respectively. The water-to-binder ratio (water/binder) was 0.5. Experimental works to examine workability and strength (at 3 and 28 days) were performed for the composite cement. The CO2 emissions were calculated considering binder compositions. A second-order polynomial regression was used to evaluate the experimental results. In addition, a low-CO2 optimization design was conducted for the composite cement using a composite desirability function. The objectives of the optimization design were the target 28-day strength (30, 35, 40, and 45 MPa), target workability (160 mm flow), and low CO2 emissions. The trends of the properties of optimal combinations were consistent with those in the test results. In summary, the proposed optimization design can be used for designing composite cement considering strength, workability, and ecological aspects. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aimed to assess the safety and effectiveness of the highly cross-linked hyaluronic acid—LBSA0103—in patients with knee osteoarthritis (OA) as per the prescribing information (PI) in South Korea. A total of 3,140 subjects aged ≥19 years were enrolled in this post-marketing surveillance (PMS) study from 2013 to 2019. The subjects received one or two injections of LBSA0103. The median duration of follow-up was 308 days. Adverse events (AEs), adverse drug reactions (ADRs), and serious AEs (SAEs) were monitored. Effectiveness was evaluated based on an index of effectiveness in accordance with the guidelines established by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety and using a 100-mm visual analog scale (VAS) for weight-bearing pain. Overall, 250 subjects (7.96%) experienced 292 AEs and of these, unexpected AEs occurred in 114 subjects (3.63% [95% CI: 3.00–4.35]). Injection site pain was the most frequent AE reported by 81 subjects (2.58% [95% confidence intervals (CI): 2.05–3.20]). One hundred subjects experienced 108 ADRs (3.18% [95% CI: 2.60, 3.86]) and 15 unexpected ADRs were experienced by 13 subjects (0.41% [95% CI: 0.22–0.71]). Seventeen subjects experienced 22 SAEs (0.54% [95% CI: 0.32–0.87]) during the entire PMS period, and all were considered "unlikely" related to the study drug. Most AEs were mild in terms of severity and resolved during the study period. LBSA0103 was also effective in relieving symptomatic pain in knee OA patients. The condition in more than 80% of the subjects was considered to be improved when assessed by the investigators. LBSA0103 resulted in a significant reduction in the mean VAS score at 12 weeks after the first and second injections (24.79 (± 20.55) mm and 17.63 (±12.31) mm, respectively; p<0.0001). In conclusion, LBSA0103, used for the treatment of knee OA in a real-world setting, was well tolerated, with an acceptable safety profile and consistent therapeutic effect. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The granulated blast furnace slag is commonly blended with Portland cement or clinker to produce slag blended cement after being ground to the fineness comparable to Portland cement. Hydration of slag-blended cement is much more complex than that of ordinary Portland cement because of the mutual interactions between the cement hydration and the slag reaction. In this paper, by considering the production of calcium hydroxide in cement hydration and its consumption in the reaction of slag, a numerical procedure is proposed to simulate the hydration of concrete containing slag. The numerical procedure includes two sub components, a cement hydration model and a slag reaction model. The heat evolution rate of slag concrete is determined from the contributions of the cement hydration and the slag reaction. Furthermore, the temperature history in hardening blended concrete is evaluated by combining the proposed numerical procedure with a finite element method. The proposed model is verified through experimental data on concrete with different water-cement ratios and mineral admixture substitution ratios. Le present article propose une procedure numerique pour simuler l'hydratation du ciment contenant du laitier en tenant compte de la production d'hydroxyde de calcium lors de l'hydratation du ciment et de sa consommation lors de la reaction du laitier. La procedure numerique comprend deux sous-composantes : un modele d'hydratation du ciment et un modele de reaction du laitier. Le taux d'evolution de la chaleur du beton de laitier est determine a partir des contributions de l'hydratation du ciment et de la reaction du laitier. De plus, l'historique de temperature lors de la solidification du beton melange est evalue en joignant la procedure numerique proposee a une methode par elements finis.
