As the significance of knowledge convergence continues to grow, universities are making efforts to develop methods that promote multidisciplinary learning. To address this educational challenge, our paper applies network theory and text mining techniques to analyze university curricula and introduces a graphical syllabus rendering method. Visualizing the course curriculum provides a macro and structured perspective for individuals seeking alternative educational pathways within the existing system. By visualizing the relationships among courses, students can explore different combinations of courses with comprehensive search support. To illustrate our approach, we conduct a detailed demonstration using the syllabus database of Yonsei University. Through the application of our methods, we create visual course networks that reveal the underlying structure of the university curriculum. Our results yield insights into the interconnectedness of courses across various academic majors at Yonsei University. We present both macro visualizations, covering 18 academic majors, and visualizations for a few selected majors. Our analysis using Yonsei University's database not only showcases the value of our methodology but also serves as a practical example of how our approach can facilitate multidisciplinary learning. Previous studies on Korean relative clauses (RC) show that, with respect to processing, object-extracted relative clauses (ORC) are more difficult to process at the head noun than subject-extracted relative clauses within temporarily ambiguous contexts. ORCs, however, are predicted by experience-based processing models to incur a greater processing cost during early processing stages at the RC verb, since it is a likely locus of disambiguation for RCs in Korean, and because ORCs are a less frequent structure. Consequently, the current study investigates whether processing difficulty for ORCs manifests itself at the RC verb using eye-tracking methods, a simple sentence structure and a sentential-decision task. The results revealed significantly increased go-past reading times for ORCs at the RC verb. We believe this is a result of a less frequent structure being more difficult to parse during disambiguation. Accordingly, experience-based models of processing can accurately predict difficulty for ORCs in Korean.

Objective: Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is an X‐linked disorder resulting in progressive muscle weakness and atrophy, cardiomyopathy, and in late stages, cardiorespiratory impairment, and death. As treatments for DMD have expanded, a DMD newborn screening (NBS) pilot study was conducted in New York State to evaluate the feasibility and benefit of NBS for DMD and to provide an early pre‐symptomatic diagnosis. Methods: At participating hospitals, newborns were recruited to the pilot study, and consent was obtained to screen the newborn for DMD. The first‐tier screen measured creatine kinase‐MM (CK‐MM) in dried blood spot specimens submitted for routine NBS. Newborns with elevated CK‐MM were referred for genetic counseling and genetic testing. The latter included deletion/duplication analysis and next‐generation sequencing (NGS) of the DMD gene followed by NGS for a panel of neuromuscular conditions if no pathogenic variants were detected in the DMD gene. Results: In the two‐year pilot study, 36,781 newborns were screened with CK‐MM. Forty‐two newborns (25 male and 17 female) were screen positive and referred for genetic testing. Deletions or duplications in the DMD gene were detected in four male infants consistent with DMD or Becker muscular dystrophy. One female DMD carrier was identified. Interpretation: This study demonstrated that the state NBS program infrastructure and screening technologies we used are feasible to perform NBS for DMD. With an increasing number of treatment options, the clinical utility of early identification for affected newborns and their families lends support for NBS for this severe disease.
