BackgroundIndigo naturalis (IN) is an herbal medicine that has been used for ulcerative colitis with an unclear mechanism of action. Indigo and indirubin, its main constituents, are ligands of the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR). We assessed the safety, efficacy, and colon AhR activity of IN given orally to patients with treatment-refractory ulcerative colitis. The role of AhR in IN benefit was further evaluated with an AhR antagonist in a murine colitis model.MethodsThis open-label, dose-escalation study sequentially treated 11 patients with ulcerative colitis with either IN 500 mg/day or 1.5 g/day for 8 weeks, followed by a 4-week non-treatment period. The primary efficacy endpoint was clinical response at week 8, assessed by total Mayo score. Secondary endpoints included clinical remission, Ulcerative Colitis Endoscopic Index of Severity, quality of life, and colon AhR activity measured by cytochrome P450 1A1 (CYP1A1) RNA expression.ResultsTen of 11 (91%) patients, including 8/9 (89%) with moderate-to-severe disease, achieved a clinical response. Among these 10 patients, all had failed treatment with 5-aminosalicylic acid, 8 patients with a tumour necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha inhibitor, and 6 patients with TNF-alpha inhibitor and vedolizumab. Five patients were corticosteroid dependent. Clinical response was observed in all five patients who had been recommended for colectomy. Three patients achieved clinical remission. All patients experienced improved endoscopic severity and quality of life. Four weeks after treatment completion, six patients had worsened partial Mayo scores. Four patients progressed to colectomy after study completion. Colon CYP1A1 RNA expression increased 12 557-fold at week 8 among six patients evaluated. No patient discontinued IN due to an adverse event. Concomitant administration of 3-methoxy-4-nitroflavone, an AhR antagonist, in a murine colitis model abrogated the benefit of IN.ConclusionIN is a potentially effective therapy for patients with treatment-refractory ulcerative colitis. A high-performance, wearable thermoelectric generator (TEG) was fabricated with a highly aligned carbon nanotube (CNT) sheet. The aligned CNT sheet exhibits extraordinary electrical conductivity compared to disordered CNT sheets and also can be directly fabricated as a continuous TEG without metal electrode interconnects. This provides a significant reduction in contact resistance between TE legs and electrodes compared to traditional TEGs, resulting in higher power output. In addition, the continuity of the module without any disconnected parts provides high degrees of mechanical stability and durability. This robust and scalable approach to flexible TEG fabrication paves the way for CNT applications in lightweight, flexible, and wearable electronics.

GoalThe aim of this study was to investigate gene expression levels of proteins involved in sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) metabolism and signaling in a pediatric inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patient population.BackgroundIBD is a debilitating disease affecting 0.4% of the US population. The incidence of IBD in childhood is rising. Identifying effective targeted therapies that can be used safely in young patients and developing tools for selecting specific candidates for targeted therapies are important goals. Clinical IBD trials now underway target S1PR1, a receptor for the pro-inflammatory sphingolipid S1P. However, circulating and tissue sphingolipid levels and S1P-related gene expression have not been characterized in pediatric IBD.MethodsPediatric IBD patients and controls were recruited in a four-site study. Patients received a clinical score using PUCAI or PCDAI evaluation. Colon biopsies were collected during endoscopy. Gene expression was measured by qRT-PCR. Plasma and gut tissue sphingolipids were measured by LC-MS/MS.ResultsGenes of S1P synthesis (SPHK1, SPHK2), degradation (SGPL1), and signaling (S1PR1, S1PR2, and S1PR4) were significantly upregulated in colon biopsies of IBD patients with moderate/severe symptoms compared with controls or patients in remission. Tissue ceramide, dihydroceramide, and ceramide-1-phosphate (C1P) levels were significantly elevated in IBD patients compared with controls.ConclusionsA signature of elevated S1P-related gene expression in colon tissues of pediatric IBD patients correlates with active disease and normalizes in remission. Biopsied gut tissue from symptomatic IBD patients contains high levels of pro-apoptotic and pro-inflammatory sphingolipids. A combined analysis of gut tissue sphingolipid profiles with this S1P-related gene signature may be useful for monitoring response to conventional therapy.

A method for establishing a berth schedule consisting of berthing times and berthing positions of containerships in port container terminals is addressed in this paper. Each vessel requires a specific amount of space on the berth during a predetermined length of time for unloading and loading containers. The berth schedule must be constructed in a way to satisfy requests from carriers on berthing times and minimize handling efforts during ship operation. A mixed integer program is formulated for the berth-scheduling problem, which can be solved using a commercial package. In order to overcome the computational load of the mixed integer program, the formulation is converted into another integer linear program in which the solution space of the berth and the time is discretized. A Lagrangean relaxation model of the discretized model is solved using a sub-gradient optimization technique. STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: As a prosthodontic treatment for a maxillectomy patient in the initial postoperative period, immediate surgical obturators during surgery have been advocated to restore and maintain the patient's oral function to a reasonable level. However, these may fit poorly because they are fabricated using preoperative casts. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to determine the comparative usefulness of a delayed surgical obturator. MATERIAL AND METHODS: During the period from 2000 to 2004, 29 patients underwent prosthodontic treatment after maxillectomy. Twenty-three patients who were dentate postoperatively and were treated with polyvinyl acetal (Merocel) packing and a delayed surgical obturator were included in this study. Patients who were edentulous postoperatively, who were treated with an immediate surgical obturator or whose data were incomplete were excluded. The records of 23 patients were reviewed to determine the usefulness of using a delayed surgical obturator by counting days required to start postoperative oral feeding. The median of days elapsed prior to commencement of postoperative oral feeding was compared with data from a study by Lapointe et al (1996). In the Lapointe et al study, the median days elapsed prior to beginning a clear fluid diet was 2 in the group using immediate surgical obturators. The data were analyzed using the 1-sample Wilcoxon signed rank test (alpha=.05). RESULTS: Days elapsed prior to commencement of postoperative oral feeding were less than those reported previously. Patients with Merocel packing began oral feeding, on average, 1.48 days after the maxillectomy. The median number of days elapsed prior to commencement of postoperative oral feeding was 1. This time was earlier than the 2 days for the Lapointe et al study (P=.0074). No major postoperative care complications occurred among the maxillectomy patients treated with a delayed surgical obturator. CONCLUSION: Delayed surgical obturators were successful in terms of the postoperative care of dentate maxillectomy patients and did not increase patient discomfort during early rehabilitative management. This study simultaneously measured the taxonomic diversity of bacterial communities in both seawater and PM 2.5 aerosol samples collected from the Northern Pacific Ocean during a cruise covering 7724 km between 37°N 126°E and 58°N 179°E. The relative abundance of Proteobacteria, Cyanobacteria, and Firmicutes were found to be more prevalent in aerosol samples (39 ± 16 %, 5.1 ± 1.9 %, and 3.2 ± 1.7 %, respectively) than in seawater samples (26 ± 9 %, 3.8 ± 1.7 %, and 0.02 ± 0.09 %, respectively). The preferential aerosolization of bacterial communities such as Proteobacteria and Firmicutes was likely to be accompanied by a terrestrial origin and high hydrophobicity. Cyanobacteria could undergo increased aerosolization, possibly because of their smaller size in the significantly higher salinity open ocean (32.8 ± 0.14 PSU) compared to those in lower salinity coastal areas (31.3 ± 1.4 PSU). We compared 15 Salmonella Enteritidis isolates collected in South Korea in 2023: 11 from chickens and 4 from humans. All isolates belonged to ST11, and they were divided into two clusters, rST3888 and rST1425. Backgroud: The International Hip Outcome Tool 12 (iHOT12), which is now widely adopted in clinical settings, has been established as reliable, valid, and responsive, positioning as a critical evaluation tool globally to gauge the efficacy of hip arthroscopy. This study aimed to translate the iHOT12 questionnaire into Korean and assess its feasibility, internal consistency, and validity concerning the psychometric properties of the Korean version of iHOT12 (iHOT12-K)., Methods: The iHOT12 questionnaire was translated into Korean and adapted culturally, following international guidelines, involving forward translation, back-translation, and reconciliation by bilingual experts to ensure cross-cultural equivalence. A cohort of 67 patients diagnosed with femoroacetabular impingement and scheduled for hip arthroscopy between November 2015 and February 2021 participated in assessing the psychometric properties of the iHOT12-K, alongside standardized questionnaires (Korean iterations of the Short Form-36 [SF-36], Hip Disability and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score [HOOS], Korean version of Hip Outcome Score [HOS-K], and modified Harris Hip Score [mHHS]). Psychometric evaluations focusing on feasibility, internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha), and convergent validity (Spearman's rank correlation) demonstrated the reliability and relevance of iHOT12-K., Results: In the psychometric evaluation of the adapted version, 67 participants (38 men and 29 women; median age, 41 years) were enrolled, with 59 completing the iHOT12-K. The questionnaire showed excellent internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha, 0.896) without floor or ceiling effects, indicating good feasibility. Strong convergent validity was noted between the iHOT12-K and various hip-specific questionnaires (HOOS, HOS-K, and mHHS), except for the maximal visual analog scale score, demonstrating the reliability and applicability of the iHOT12-K for clinical assessments in Korea., Conclusions: The iHOT12-K has successfully undergone transcultural adaptation, demonstrating significant feasibility, internal consistency, and validity. This is the first report describing the isolation and genome sequence of Flavobacterium ceti (F. ceti IJFC025) from a draining submandibular lymph node abscess in a 6-year-old mixed-breed mare in Korea. Since F. ceti is not a usual infectious pathogen that causes equine health problems, this study presents the complete genome sequence of F. ceti isolated from a submandibular lymph node abscess sample in Jeju, South Korea, in 2022. The entire genome sequence of F. ceti IJFC025 consisted of a 3,144,426-bp chromosome with 35.6 % G + C content. Gene prediction revealed that this strain possesses 2909 coding sequences (CDSs), 74 tRNAs, and five rRNAs. Average nucleotide identity analysis of the whole-genome sequence revealed 98.6 %-98.8 % nucleotide identity between F. ceti IJFC025 and F. ceti CECT7184, which was previously isolated from beaked whales. PathogenFinder revealed four different virulence genes in the genome that could potentially cause infections in horses. F. ceti CECT7184 contained genes encoding propionyl-CoA carboxylase, 3-oxoacid CoA-transferase A subunit, and the translation initiation factor IF-1, whereas F. ceti IJFC025 does not. Instead, F. ceti IJFC025 harbors genes encoding deoxyhypusine synthase, whereas F. ceti CECT7184 does not. Antimicrobial susceptibility tests revealed that F. ceti IJFC025 is a multidrug-resistant strain that is resistant to gentamicin, ceftazidime, nalidixic acid, ciprofloxacin, and colistin. However, no resistance genes were detected in the whole-genome sequence. Vibrio vulnificus, a gram-negative pathogenic bacterium, transmitted via undercooked seafood or contaminated seawater, causes septicemia and wound infections. In this study, we analyzed 15 clinical and 11 environmental isolates. In total, 20 sequence types (STs), including eight novel STs, were identified. Antibiotic resistance gene analysis commonly detected the cyclic AMP receptor protein (CRP) in both the clinical and environmental isolates. Interestingly, clinical and environmental isolates were non-susceptible to third-generation cephalosporins, such as ceftazidime and cefotaxime, complicating the treatment of V. vulnificus infection. Multiple antibiotic resistance (MAR) index ranged from 0.1 to 0.5, with clinical isolates showing a higher mean MAR index than the environmental isolates, indicating their broader spectrum of resistance. Notable, no quantitative (124.3 vs. 126.5) and qualitative (adherence, antiphagocytosis, and chemotaxis/motility) differences in virulence factors were observed between the environmental and clinical strains. Six new species of the genus Lecithocera Herrich-Schäffer, 1853 (Lecithocerinae) are described from Kenya and Tanzania: five new species from Tanzania (L. kitulangaroensis Park, sp. nov., L. grisella Park, sp. nov., L. soniana Park, sp. nov., L. triasgonia Park, sp. nov., and L. majorella Park, sp. nov.) and one new species from Kenya (L. naromoruensis Park, sp. nov.). In addition, Lecithocera namizimuensis Park & Heppner, 2023 and L. isomitra Meyrick, 1914, which were described from Malawi, are reported for the first time from Tanzania and Kenya respectively; the male genitalia of L. isomitra are newly described; and the male genitalia of L. sceptrarcha Meyrick, 1920 are illustrated and described for the first time, based on those of the lectotype. Adults and the genitalia of the new species and the first known species are illustrated.

Background: Livestock-associated Staphylococcus aureus (LA-SA) has gained global attention because of its ability to colonize farm animals and transmit to the environment and humans, leading to symptomatic infections and the spread of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). In the last decade, numerous studies have reported a high prevalence of S. aureus clonal complex (CC) 398 in pig farms., Results: In this study, 163 S. aureus isolates were collected from healthy pigs (n = 110), farm environments (n = 42), and farm workers (n = 11), and their AMR profiles and epidemiological characteristics were analyzed. We identified 51 (31.3%) methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) and 112 (68.7%) methicillin-susceptible S. aureus (MSSA), with 161 (98.8%) isolates belonging to the CC398 lineage. The highest prevalence of spa type t571 was observed among the CC398 isolates. All 47 sequence type (ST) 398 MRSA isolates carried staphylococcal cassette chromosome mec (SCCmec) V, while four ST541 isolates carried SCCmec IV. High levels of resistance to commonly used antibiotics, including phenicols, quinolones, lincosamides, macrolides, aminoglycosides, and tetracyclines, have been observed on Korean pig farms. Notably, 21 cfr-positive CC398 isolates (four ST541-SCCmec IV MRSA and 17 ST398 MSSA) displaying increased resistance to linezolid were identified in healthy pigs., Conclusions: In summary, these findings suggest that the multidrug-resistant CC398 S. aureus lineage predominantly colonizes healthy pigs and farm environments in Korea. Background/objectives: Crassula aquatica (L.) Schonl. is a very small annual plant growing along riverbanks. Chloroplast (cp) genomes, crucial for photosynthesis, are highly conserved and play a key role in understanding plant evolution. In this study, we conducted cp genome analysis of C. aquatica , aiming to elucidate its phylogenetic position and structural variations. We analyzed and described the features of the complete cp genome of C. aquatica and conducted comparative analysis with the cp genomes of closely related taxa., Rsults: The cp genome was 144,503 bp in length and exhibited the typical quadripartite structure, consisting of a large single-copy region (LSC; 77,993 bp), a small single-copy region (SSC; 16,784 bp), and two inverted repeats (24,863 bp). The cp genome of C. aquatica comprised 113 unique genes, including 79 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 30 tRNAs, and 4 rRNA genes. Comparative genomic analysis of 13 other Crassula species and six outgroups demonstrated highly conserved gene content and order among Crassula species. However, notable differences were observed, including the complete loss of the rpoC1 intron in C. aquatica and several closely related species, which may serve as a synapomorphic trait supporting the monophyly of the subgenus Disporocarpa . We analyzed the nucleotide diversity among 14 Crassula cp genomes and identified five highly variable regions ( pi > 0.08) in the IGS regions. Phylogenetic analysis based on 78 PCGs confirmed the monophyly of Crassula and its division into two subgenera: Crassula and Disporocarpa . Although the phylogenetic tree supported the subgeneric classification system, the sectional classification system requires reassessment., Conclusions: In this study, we conducted a comparative analysis of the cp genome of the genus Crassula . We inferred evolutionary trends within the Crassula cp genome and provided molecular evidence supporting the integration of the genus Tillaea into the genus Crassula . However, as this study does not represent all species within the genus Tillaea, further comprehensive phylogenetic analyses are requrired.

Background: Periodontitis is common in dogs. It is characterized by destruction of the supporting tissues of the teeth due to the host-immune response triggered by plaque. Magnoliae cortex and Zea mays L. extract showed anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial effects, respectively. This study aimed to evaluate improvement in periodontitis following the administration of Magnoliae cortex and Zea mays L. extract in dogs. Periodontitis was experimentally induced in 10 beagle dogs. Five dogs were administered 40 mg of Magnoliae cortex extract and 20 mg of Zea mays L. extract orally once per day for 2 months (MZ group), whereas the other group received empty gelatin capsules (control group). Periodontal clinical parameters, complete blood count, serum chemistry parameters, and tissue inflammatory cytokines and chemokine expression were assessed before and after combined oral extracts administration., Results: The complete blood count and serum chemistry results of all dogs were within normal ranges. Gingival inflammation in MZ group was significantly better than that in the control group at 4 and 8 weeks post-medication (PM; p < 0.05). The periodontal pocket depth and clinical attachment loss at 8 weeks PM in the MZ group were significantly lower than the baseline values (p < 0.05). The incidence of bleeding on probing in the MZ group was significantly lower than that in the control group at 4 weeks PM (p < 0.05). Throughout the medication period, the percentages of CD4 + and CD8 + T cells were higher and lower, respectively, in the MZ group. However, these differences were only significant at 8 weeks PM. The expression of the inflammatory cytokines IL-1β, IL-6, IL-17, and TNF-α and the chemokine IL-8 in the inflamed tissues was lower in the MZ group, and the two groups showed a significant difference in TNF-α expression., Conclusions: Combined administration of Magnoliae cortex and Zea mays L. extract improved the clinical symptoms of periodontal disease in dogs. While there have been notable advancements in Si-based optical integration, achieving compact and efficient continuous-wave (CW) III-V semiconductor nanolasers on Si at room temperature remains a substantial challenge. This study presents an innovative approach: the on-demand minimal-gain-printed Si nanolaser. By using a carefully designed minimal III-V optical gain structure and a precise on-demand gain-printing technique, we achieve lasing operation with superior spectral stability under pulsed conditions and observe a strong signature of CW operation at room temperature. These achievements are attributed to addressing both fundamental and technological issues, including carrier diffusion, absorption loss, and inefficient thermal dissipation, through minimal-gain printing in the nanolaser. Moreover, our demonstration of the laser-on-waveguide structure emphasizes the integration benefits of this on-demand gain-printed Si nanolaser, highlighting its potential significance in the fields of Si photonics and photonic integrated circuits.

To evaluate the efficacy of human placenta hydrolysate (HPH) in a mice model of CFA-induced inflammatory pain. TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6 are key pro-inflammatory cytokine factors for relieving inflammatory pain. Therefore, this study investigates whether HPH suppresses CFA-induced pain and attenuates the inflammatory process by regulating cytokines. In addition, the relationship between neuropathic pain and HPH was established by staining GFAP and Iba-1 in mice spinal cord tissues. This study was conducted for a total of day 28, and inflammatory pain was induced in mice by injecting CFA into the right paw at day 0 and day 14, respectively. 100 μL of 20% glucose and polydeoxyribonucleotide (PDRN) and 100, 200, and 300 μL of HPH were administered intraperitoneally twice a week. In the CFA-induced group, cold and mechanical allodynia and pro-inflammatory cytokine factors in the spinal cord and plantar tissue were significantly increased. The five groups of drugs evenly reduced pain and gene expression of inflammatory factors, and particularly excellent effects were confirmed in the HPH 200 and 300 groups. Meanwhile, the expression of GFAP and Iba-1 in the spinal cord was increased by CFA administration but decreased by HPH administration, which was confirmed to suppress damage to peripheral ganglia. The present study suggests that HPH attenuates CFA-induced inflammatory pain through inhibition of pro-inflammatory cytokine factors and protection of peripheral nerves.

Analysis of the recall response ex vivo in cattle vaccinated with a Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis (Map) rel deletion mutant revealed the immune response was directed toward a 35 kD major membrane protein (MMP) of Map. Antigen presenting cells (APC) primed with MMP elicited expansion of CD8 cytotoxic memory T cells (CTL) with ability to kill intracellular bacteria. Development of CTL was MHC-restricted. The gene MAP2121c, encoding MMP, was modified for expression of MMP (tPA-MMP-2mut) in a mammalian cell line to explore the potential of developing MMP as a vaccine. Ex vivo stimulation of PBMC, from Map free cattle, with APC primed with tPA-MMP-2mut expressed p35 elicited a primary CD8 CTL response comparable to the recall response elicited with PBMC from cattle vaccinated with either the Maprel deletion mutant or MMP. In the present study, the modified gene for MMP, now referred to as p35NN, was placed into a bovine herpes virus-4 (BoHV4) vector to determine the potential use of BoHV-4AΔTK-p35NN as a peptide-based vaccine. Subcutaneous vaccination of healthy cattle with BoHV-4AΔTK-p35NN elicited a CTL recall response, as detected ex vivo. The results show use of a virus vector is an effective way for delivery of MMP as a vaccine. The immunogenic activity of MMP was not lost when modified for expression in mammalian cells. Small bowel strictures remain a debilitating consequence of Crohn's disease and contribute to poor outcomes for patients. Recently, TGFβ has been identified as an important driver of intestinal fibrosis. We studied the localization of TGFβ isoforms in ileal strictures of patients with Crohn's disease using in situ hybridization to understand TGFβ's role in stricture formation. The mucosa of strictures was characterized by higher TGFβ1 while the stricture submucosa showed higher TGFβ3 compared to normal ileum from patients without Crohn's disease (p = 0.02 and p = 0.044, respectively). We correlated these findings with single-cell transcriptomics which demonstrated that TGFβ3 transcripts overall are very rare, which may partially explain why its role in intestinal fibrosis has remained unclear to date. There were no significant differences in fibroblast or B cell TGFβ1 and/or TGFβ3 expression in inflamed vs. noninflamed ileum. Introduction: There is a lack of evidence to support the effectiveness of prolonged β-blocker therapy after stabilisation of patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) without heart failure (HF) or left ventricular systolic dysfunction., Methods and Analysis: The SMart Angioplasty Research Team: DEcision on Medical Therapy in Patients with Coronary Artery DIsease or Structural Heart Disease Undergoing InterventiON (SMART-DECISION) trial is a multicentre, prospective, open-label, randomised, non-inferiority trial designed to determine whether discontinuing β-blocker therapy after ≥1 year of maintenance in stabilised patients after AMI is non-inferior to continuing it. Patients eligible for participation are those without HF or left ventricular systolic dysfunction (ejection fraction >40%) who have been continuing β-blocker therapy for ≥1 year after AMI. A total of 2540 patients will be randomised 1:1 to continuation of β-blocker therapy or not. Randomisation will be stratified according to the type of AMI (ie, ST-segment-elevation MI or non-ST-segment-elevation MI), type of β-blocker (carvedilol, bisoprolol, nebivolol or other) and participating centre. The primary study endpoint is a composite of all-cause death, MI and hospitalisation for HF over a median follow-up period of 3.5 years (minimum, 2.5 years; maximum, 4.5 years). Adherence to lifestyle recommendations is crucial in managing hypertension, independent of medical treatment. This study aimed to evaluate the implementation of adherence to lifestyle recommendations and analyze the trends in adherence to lifestyle recommendations among patients with hypertension in Korea from 2007 to 2021 using the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES). The study included adults aged ≥20 years. Factors such as regular physical activity, smoking and alcohol abstinence, weight and stress management, and adherence to a healthy diet were analyzed. In 2021, A doublefold increase was observed in the proportion of patients with hypertension who adhered to sodium restriction compared to 2007. However, 70% of patients with hypertension consume more sodium than recommended. Moreover, potassium intake has steadily decreased since 2014, with only 23.8% of patients with hypertension meeting the recommended intake. The body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference of patients with hypertension have gradually increased, with fewer patients maintaining an appropriate weight. The neglect of diet and weight control among young patients with hypertension who experience high stress levels poses challenges in modifying their lifestyles. Patients with hypertension in Korea still consume high amounts of sodium, whereas potassium intake is gradually decreasing. Additionally, obesity rates have been increasing, especially among young patients with hypertension. Recent studies have shown that autophagy is activated in response to nerve damage and occurs simultaneously with the initial stages of Schwann cell-mediated demyelination. Although several studies have reported that macroautophagy is involved in the peripheral nerve, the role of chaperone-mediated autophagy (CMA) has not yet been investigated in peripheral nerve injury. The present study investigates the role of CMA in the sciatic nerve. Using a mouse model of sciatic nerve injury, the authors employed immunofluorescence analysis to observe the expression of LAMP2A, a critical marker for CMA. RNA sequencing was performed to observe the transcriptional profile of Lamp2a in Schwann cells. Bioinformatics analysis was carried out to observe the hub genes associated with Lamp2a . Expression of Lamp2a , a key gene in CMA, increased following sciatic nerve injury, based on an immunofluorescence assay. To identify differentially expressed genes using Lamp2a , RNA sequence analysis was conducted using rat Schwann cells overexpressing Lamp2a . The nine hub genes ( Snrpf, Polr1d, Snip1, Aqr, Polr2h, Ssbp1, Mterf3, Adcy6 , and Sbds ) were identified using the CytoHubba plugin of Cytoscape. Functional analysis revealed that Lamp2a overexpression affected the transcription levels of genes associated with mitotic spindle organization and mRNA splicing via the spliceosome. In addition, Polr1d and Snrpf1 were downregulated throughout postnatal development but elevated following sciatic nerve injury, according to a bioinformatics study. This study aimed to compare the 2-year cardio-cerebrovascular adverse outcomes of patients with influenza with and without preexisting cardiovascular disease (preCVD) treated with oral antiviral agents in the outpatient clinic. Oral antiviral agents are routinely prescribed to treat influenza infection with a positive rapid-antigen test in the outpatient clinic; however, influenza-associated cardio-cerebrovascular outcomes have not yet been characterized in patients with preCVD treated with oral antiviral agents. Data between 2006 and 2016 were extracted from the National Health Database of South Korea. A total of 865,522 patients with influenza treated with oral antiviral agents were selected in South Korea and classified as preexisting ischemic heart disease (IHD), heart failure (HF), or atrial fibrillation (AF), and 2-year cardio-cerebrovascular outcomes were analyzed using a Cox proportional hazard regression model. Among the participants, 96,433 had preCVD (11.1%; mean age, 46 years) including IHD (86.4%), HF (23.1%), and AF (12.5%). The incidence of new-onset IHD, AF, HF, and death was similar between patients with influenza with and without preCVD. The incidences of IHD and stroke were 0.489 and 0.047 per 100-person year in the preCVD group, respectively. The incidence of cardiovascular mortality was 0.489 per 100-person year in the preCVD group, and the hazard ratio for cardiovascular mortality in the preCVD group was not significantly different from that in patients without preCVD. Organic matter is crucial in aerosol-climate interactions, yet the physicochemical properties and origins of organic aerosols remain poorly understood. Here we show the seasonal characteristics of submicron organic aerosols in Arctic Svalbard during spring and summer, emphasizing their connection to transport patterns and particle size distribution. Microbial-derived organic matter (MOM) and terrestrial-derived organic matter (TOM) accounted for over 90% of the total organic mass in Arctic aerosols during these seasons, comprising carbohydrate/protein-like and lignin/tannin-like compounds, respectively. In spring, aerosols showed high TOM and low MOM intensities due to biomass-burning influx in the central Arctic. In contrast, summer exhibited elevated MOM intensity, attributed to the shift in predominant atmospheric transport from the central Arctic to the biologically active Greenland Sea. MOM and TOM were associated with Aitken mode particles (<100 nm diameter) and accumulation mode particles (>100 nm diameter), respectively. This association is linked to the molecular size of biomolecules, impacting the number concentrations of corresponding aerosol classes.
