Introduction: Fibromyalgia is a disease that involves chronic pain, with high prevalence in the female population and great impact on the bio-psycho-social sphere of people affected by it. However, few studies have analyzed the possible influence of socio-affective factors on the quality of life of people who suffer from this disease. Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the relationships between the impact of this disease on the lives of people with fibromyalgia and these variables. Specifically, we analyzed the quality of partner relationship, perceived loneliness, life satisfaction, and perceived socio-family situation. Method: A descriptive-correlational cross-sectional design was used. The sample consisted of 69 women diagnosed with fibromyalgia. The participants completed different questionnaires that measured their happiness, satisfaction with life, perceived loneliness, quality of partner relationship, socio-family valuation, and the impact of fibromyalgia. Results: The quality of partner relationship, perceived loneliness and socio-family valuation seem to be good predictors of subjective happiness, life satisfaction, and the impact that fibromyalgia has on people's lives, in the sense that the more positive the valuation of the couple relationship and of the socio-family situation, and the lower the perceived loneliness, people feel happier, more satisfied with their lives and the lower the impact that fibromyalgia has on their lives. Conclusion: The 50% of satisfaction with life can be explained from the scores obtained in perceived loneliness and the quality of partner relationship. In this sense, perceived loneliness was a good predictor of the impact of fibromyalgia on the lives of these patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Little is known about the long-term social and professional outcomes in adults after pediatric kidney replacement therapy (KRT). In this study, we described social and professional outcomes of adults after kidney failure during childhood and compared these outcomes with the general population. Methods: We sent a questionnaire to 143 individuals registered in the Swiss Pediatric Renal Registry (SPRR) with KRT starting before the age of 18 years. In the questionnaire, we assessed social (partner relationship, living situation, having children) and professional (education, employment) outcomes. Logistic regression models adjusted for age at study and sex were used to compare outcomes with a representative sample of the Swiss general population and to identify socio-demographic and clinical characteristics associated with adverse outcomes. Results: Our study included 80 patients (response rate 56%) with a mean age of 39 years (range 19–63). Compared to the general population, study participants were more likely to not have a partner (OR = 3.7, 95%CI 2.3–5.9), live alone (OR = 2.5, 95%CI 1.5–4.1), not have children (OR = 6.8, 95%CI 3.3–14.0), and be unemployed (OR = 3.9, 95%CI 1.8–8.6). No differences were found for educational achievement (p = 0.876). Participants on dialysis at time of study were more often unemployed compared to transplanted participants (OR = 5.0, 95%CI 1.2–21.4) and participants with > 1 kidney transplantation more often had a lower education (OR = 3.2, 95%CI 1.0–10.2). Conclusions: Adults after pediatric kidney failure are at risk to experience adverse social and professional outcomes. Increased awareness among healthcare professionals and additional psycho-social support could contribute to mitigate those risks. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Intimate partner violence (IPV) in China is a largely understudied, major health risk among women living with HIV. Using structured face-to-face interviews, this research examined partner and couple relationship characteristics associated with physical and sexual IPV among 219 HIV-positive women living with a male partner in Ruili, China. Twenty-nine women (13%) reported past-year occurrences of physical IPV, and 24 (11%) reported sexual IPV. Physical IPV was more common when the woman's partner was of Jingpo ethnicity, drank weekly, or learned of her HIV status indirectly from a third person. Reduced risk of physical IPV was associated with a woman's perceived confidant support that was available through either her partner or a minimum of 2 non-partner confidants. Sexual IPV was more often reported among women with a partner who drank frequently or was concurrently HIV-positive, or in situations where the woman was employed and the partner was not. Sexual IPV was less likely with a partner of Dai ethnicity than Han, the major ethnicity in China. Identifying determinants of IPV vulnerability among women living with HIV may help future interventions to achieve greater impact in similar settings. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Since the onset of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, there have been some reports regarding the impact of COVID-19 on male psychosexual health. Aims and Objectives: To assess the severity of stress during COVID-19 and to determine the association of stress levels with partner relationships and sexual activity. Methodology: A cross-sectional study was conducted in Saudi Arabia through social media platforms via an online questionnaire between 1 December 2020 and 31 January 2021 among 871 participants after a pilot study among 20 participants, of which 497 were included in the study. Stress levels were assessed using the Arabic version of the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS-21). Statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS version 20.0. Responses were presented as frequencies and percentages, and associations were studied using the Chi-squared test/Fisher's exact test. A value of p ≤ 0.05 was considered significant. Results: A total of 497 participants who had been infected with COVID-19 completed the survey. In total, it was found that 203 (40.8%) had severe stress scores (severe and extremely severe scores merged), while 131 (26.4%) had moderate stress scores. About 84 (16.9%) participants agreed that their sexual desire decreased, 91 (18.1%) confirmed their sexual intercourse frequency decreased, and sexual satisfaction decreased in 76 (15.3%). A significant positive correlation was found in that those who disagreed with having a good sexual relationship tended to have severe stress (p < 0.001). Conclusion: There were increased levels of stress during the lockdown period, which impacted psychosexual health. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
OBJECTIVE: Our aim was to assess sexual activity, partner relationships among males who had been infected with COVID-19, to study the impact of COVID-19 infection on partner relationship and to find out the association between partner and sexual relationship during lockdown. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A cross sectional study was conducted in Saudi Arabia through social media platforms via online questionnaire between December 1, 2020 and January 31, 2021 among 871 participants after a pilot study among 20 participants of which 497 were included in the study. Statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS version 20.0 (IBM Inc., Armonk, NY, USA). Responses were presented as frequencies and percentages and the association was studied using Chi squared test/Fisher's exact test. The value of p ≤ .05 was considered significant. RESULTS: Out of the total study participants, nearly 85% of them belonged to the age range of 18 to 39 years, more than half of the participants were married. In the six months prior to the study being conducted, 268 respondents (53.9%) did not have sexual relationships. Respondents with positive COVID-19 infection reported that their partner lived with them in the same house during home isolation and was also found to be significantly associated with having intact sexual relationships in the last six months of the lockdown period (p-value < .001). Moreover, respondents who reported having good relationships with their partners during the pandemic were found to be significantly associated with having intact sexual relationships during the pandemic lockdown (p-value < .001). CONCLUSIONS: Among the COVID-19-positive respondents, sexual activity and partner relationships were largely found to be intact during the pandemic lockdown period. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

People with dark personality traits tend to be unsympathetic, manipulative, and violent, and this can affect their intimate partner relationships. The objective of this research is to analyze how the presence of the dark personality traits affects young people's intimate couple relationships. Sociodemographic variables, sexual practices, and tendencies towards the partner, moral disengagement (PMD), and the dark personality traits were assessed in 308 participants, all of them aged between 18 and 25, of whom 78.3% were women and 21.2% were men. Men obtained higher scores than women both in moral disengagement and dark personality traits, as did people who were unfaithful or who consumed pornographic content, which conditions the quality of couple relationships. Consistent with this, men with higher levels of dark personality traits and higher use of a moral disengagement mechanism also presented a greater tendency towards infidelity, especially repeated infidelity. Infidelity is highly related to the presence of dark personality traits, unrestricted socio-sexuality, and having more sexual partners. These results aid in the design of interventions to prevent sexual harassment and abuse in young people and their intimate partner relationships.

Maternal postpartum emotional distress is quite common and can pose significant risk to mothers and infants. The current study investigated mothers' relationships with their partners during pregnancy and tested the hypotheses that perception of prenatal partner support is a significant predictor of changes in maternal emotional distress from midpregnancy to postpartum, and contributes to maternal ratings of infant distress to novelty. Using a prospective longitudinal design, 272 adult pregnant women were interviewed regarding their partner support, relationship satisfaction, and interpersonal security (attachment style and willingness to seek out support), and they completed standardized measures of prenatal symptoms of depression and anxiety (distress). At 6 to 8 weeks' postpartum, mothers reported these symptoms again and completed measures of their infants' temperament. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to test direct and indirect contributions of partner support, relationship satisfaction, and interpersonal security to maternal and infant postpartum distress. Mothers who perceived stronger social support from their partners midpregnancy had lower emotional distress postpartum after controlling for their distress in early pregnancy, and their infants were reported to be less distressed in response to novelty. Partner support mediated the effects of mothers' interpersonal security and relationship satisfaction on maternal and infant outcomes. A high-quality, supportive partner relationship during pregnancy may contribute to improved maternal and infant well-being postpartum, indicating a potential role for partner relationships in mental health interventions, with possible benefits for infants as well.

Many fathers suffer from burdening depressive symptoms in the period after the birth of their child (postnatal depression [PND]). In mothers, attachment insecurity has been empirically linked to the development and maintenance of postpartum depression, but its role in father PND is not well understood. The present study investigated the link between attachment insecurity and paternal depressive symptoms in the postnatal period, employing multiple depression measures to capture both typical and male-specific depressive symptoms. Structural equation modeling was used to explore the potential mediating role of parenting stress (feelings of restriction and incompetence in parenting), and relational variables (consensus in, and satisfaction with, the couple relationship). Data were collected by an online survey responded to by fathers of infants 1–18 months old (N = 530). Both a direct link between attachment anxiety and father PND, and an indirect link, mediated by parenting stress, were found. A weaker, indirect link between attachment avoidance and father PND was found, also mediated by parenting stress. Especially men high in attachment anxiety may experience parenting as stressful and thereby have an elevated risk for depressive symptoms. Surprisingly, relational difficulties were not linked to father PND. The study contributes to the understanding of mechanisms underlying how attachment anxiety influences the risk of depression in the postnatal period in fathers. Public Significance Statement: Father postnatal depressive symptoms are linked to attachment anxiety. Feelings of restriction and incompetence in parenting, as distinct expressions of parental stress, mediate this link. In contrast, relational variables—that might be expected to mediate between attachment anxiety and depression symptoms in the postnatal period in men—do not. This understanding of how attachment anxiety contributes to father depression in the postnatal period can help define what constitutes effective preventive/supportive action to help fathers, and families, in this crucial period of life. - Abstract
Welche emanzipatorischen Potenziale liegen in konsensuell-nichtmonogamen Beziehungsnetzwerken?

14. Transnational Intimacies and Marriages: Gender and Social Class Complexities in two Northeastern Thai Villages

- Abstract
Studies of transnational intimacies and marriages thus far reveal how these intimate relationships are simulated and constrained by global and local circumstances, cultures, ideas, and practices relating to gender, marriage, and family as well as class and ethnicity. This paper provides insights into the other side of the global process by exploring how these intimate relations generate tensions and challenge cultural ideas and practices regarding gender and social class at the 'local end' of the transnational connections. Drawn on three ethnographic studies in two northeastern Thai villages, my research argues that these marital relationships present a form of women's agency and bring new challenges to masculine identities and subjectivities, placing local men in vulnerable positions. Women with Western partners also constitute a new class determined by both their consumption and their lifestyle - which set them apart from other villagers - and their increased ownership of both farm and residential land. Thus, these women form a new class in both Bourdieusian and Marxist senses, although land in this case has less to do with production but rather wellbeing, security, and prosperity. In this light, transnational marriages/intimacies induce the reconfiguring of gender and class in women’s natal villages.

- Abstract
This article studies the aspirations and experiences of kathoey (Thai male-to-female trans* people) from poor rural Isan in enduring cross-border relationships with Western men. Drawing from biographical life stories, we try to unpack the cultural script through which partnering a Western man is seen as a plausible pathway for a better kathoey life in Thailand. We study the opportunities such partnering presents for achieving goals of gender affirmation, social advancement, and re-gaining merit within family relations. In the face of significant discriminatory barriers, kathoey in our study managed to build lives that they saw as self-validating, materially successful, and significantly conferring gender recognition. They understood their relationships as socially and personally much more than access to financial resources and drew important sources of emotional support, especially for gender validation from them. Western men were seen as more dedicated to partnering, caring, and being publicly seen in social settings (including family), compared to Thai.

S tem so bili osvetljeni praktični in drugih vidiki pomoči. Breast cancer is a widespread form of cancer occuring in women with a profound effect on the physical, emotional as well as social well-being of patients. It affects not only them, but also their relationships with their partners as well as the partners themselves, who are the ones playing one of the key roles in supporting and helping women throughout the entire process of breast treatment. In this Master's thesis, the author has conducted research on the importance of a partner relationship in cases of breast-cancer induced mastectomy. The theoretical part contains a description of breast cancer and the risk factors for its occurrence as well as the types of treatment a woman can use. The author also writes about the psychosocial challenges that cancer brings to women's lives as well as the impact of breast cancer on a woman's self-image and sexuality. The author presents the importance of partner relationships and changes in relationships due to breast cancer, and discusses functional and dysfunctional partner relationships. In the empirical part of the thesis, the author uses a phenomenological psychological method to investigate the experience of the importance of a partner relationship in women after a breast cancer diagnosis. For this purpose, six in-depth interviews with women who had breast cancer were conducted. The research results show the positive impact of a functional partner relationship on recovery from breast cancer and demonstrate the role the partner can take on as a supporter in such situations. Some other practical and various aspects of assistance were also highlighted. The conclusion is that all the participants perceived their partner relationship as supportive and were very grateful for it. The participants struggled with an altered self-image at the time of diagnosis as well as in the period that followed, due not so much to the removed breast but to other physical changes brought on by the cancer. The subjects were empowered in the area of self-image by their partner. They experienced a significant difference in the field of sexuality, but this fact did not reduce the satisfaction in the partner relationship, as their partners also showed a great deal of patience and understanding. After overcoming the disease, they all feel a greater connection with their partners.

The current master's thesis deals with a review of the literature on emotional regulation, dealing with conflicts, and satisfaction in a partner relationship. The author divided the theoretical part into two essential chapters. The first chapter covers the definition of emotions, basic and compound emotions, emotional regulation, emotional intelligence and ways of dealing with critical situations such as frustration and conflict and crisis and stress. The second chapter is further divided into three sub-chapters. The first sub-chapter gives a description of satisfaction in a partner relationship, the second sub-chapter contains a description of communication in a partner relationship, and the third sub-chapter is dedicated to a description of conflict in a partner relationship, where, among other things, it describes the nature of this type of conflict, the levels of partner conflict, the basic themes of intimate relationships and conflict resolution with the help of of useful content: ways to prevent and reduce conflicts and suggestions for preventing and resolving conflicts. In the empirical part of the master's thesis, the author, using a quantitative method, wanted to find the connection between emotional regulation and cases of facing problems and satisfaction in a partner relationship, and to investigate differences in emotional regulation with regard to gender. In her research, the author included 183 participants between the ages of 17 and 69, of which 18 were men and 165 were women. The results showed that the more problems individuals have with emotional regulation, the more problems they have in dealing with partner conflicts. Individuals who have more problems with emotional regulation have lower satisfaction in the partner relationship. The research also showed that the more problems there are in dealing with partner conflicts, the less satisfaction there is in the partner relationship. During the research, it was also established that there are statistically significant differences between men and women in the ways of expressing emotions, namely that women regulate the expression of their emotions worse than men.

Research on East German racism before and after 1990 continues to focus on the experiences of the white majority. This paper focuses on the oral histories of Mozambican and Angolan worker trainees who came to the German Democratic Republic (GDR) between 1978-1990 to work, live, and love, and those of the mixed-race children who emerged from their relationships to East German women. The racial knowledge pervading social interactions, state interests, and socialist notions of solidarity, limited the ability of the workers to freely live in mixed-race relationships, but never fully determined their experiences. Instead, Mozambican and Angolan worker-trainees exerted some degree of agency, pursued individual agendas, and resisted their racially constructed positions, in part through engaging in mixed-race relationships. While their children experienced racialised stereotypes much earlier in their biographies, they too were able to challenge and resist East German racist knowledge. Their strategies often took them on journeys searching for their Mozambican parent and of challenging close East German family members. Together, the oral histories of both generations before and after 1990 illuminate the complex ways in which racist knowledge operates and bring up new questions and challenges to existing research on racism in (East) Germany.

PurposeThe wine sector is a growing industry with an important share of the revenue resulting from export markets. Due to its cultural nature, wine exporting requires specific firm and managerial capabilities. As such, traditional approaches to the factors influencing export performance must integrate the specificities of wine as a product.Design/methodology/approachThis study, based on a sample of 93 wine producers, develops and tests, using structural equation modeling, specifically the partial least squares method, a conceptual model of the influence of internal factors, external factors and partner relationship capabilities in export performance.FindingsResults reveal that internal factors and partner relationships have an impact on the firm’s noneconomic performance which influences economic performance. It is also shown by the results that external factors do not affect the noneconomic performance or economic performance. Moreover, the results show the moderation effect of the noneconomic variable. Internal factors and relationship capabilities have an impact on economic performance considering the mediation effect of the noneconomic performance. Overall, firms’ internal factors and relationship capabilities are crucial to achieve better export performance for Portuguese wine companies.Originality/valueThis study combines the theories of SCP, resource-based view and relational or behavior perspective to present a novel approach to export performance by analyzing the external and internal dimensions of the firm in relation to both financial and nonfinancial performances.

- Abstract
This paper explores marital adjustment among couples raising a temperamentally difficult infant. Employing a multiple case study methodology we conducted ten interviews with six couples. The parenting distress these couples experienced meant they were at higher risk of marital maladjustment. Four couples experienced marital crisis, resulting in the separation of one couple. Our analysis suggests that reference to “insufficient father involvement” during the interviews signaled problems with the mother’s satisfaction and marital adjustment. We found that mothers consider four specific aspects of paternal behavior as constituting involvement: 1. the father caring for the child in the mother’s presence, 2. the father caring for the child on his own, 3. the father sleeping in the same room as the mother and baby, and 4. the father being psychologically involved and supportive. MULTIPLE sclerosis , *SEXUAL dysfunction , *IMPOTENCE - Abstract
Introduction: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is the most common chronic disease of the central nervous system. Multiple sclerosis is usually diagnosed in the second and third decades of life. Sexual health is a basic human right and an integral part of the personality of every human being. The most common sexual problems manifest themselves when interacting with another person. Aim of the research: Evaluation of sexual dysfunctions in people with a diagnosis of MS in Poland. Material and methods: The study involved 197 women and men between 18 and 45 years old. The research tool consisted of standardised questionnaires: the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF), the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI), and the Index of Marital Satisfaction (IMS). Results: All questionnaires values in the study group (SG) indicated a greater severity of dysfunction compared with the control group (CG). Also, after using cut-off points, sexual and partnership dysfunctions were found more often in the SG with all three questionnaires. Logistic regression analysis, adjusted for age, indicated that sexual dysfunctions in women were associated with a diagnosis of MS, and erectile dysfunction in men was associated with a diagnosis of MS. Conclusions: Both women and men with a diagnosis of MS have a greater risk of sexual dysfunction than the healthy population in Poland. This fact should be considered in a holistic diagnosis and therapeutic process. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the feasibility, preliminary effects, and acceptability of the first comprehensive couple-based treatment for suicide, called Treatment for Relationships and Safety Together (TR&ST). METHOD In a preliminary examination, five couples (N = 10) participated in 10 weekly sessions of TR&ST. All couples included a veteran who reported active suicidal ideation at baseline and their partner. Couples completed measures of relationship functioning, perceived burdensomeness, thwarted belonging, and suicidal ideation at baseline, mid-treatment, and posttreatment. RESULTS TR&ST was feasible to deliver. Veteran and partner relationship functioning improved and veteran perceived burdensomeness, thwarted belonging, and suicidal ideation decreased. There were no suicide related behaviors, hospitalizations, or crisis line calls during the study. TR&ST seemed acceptable to couples (100% retention and high satisfaction ratings). CONCLUSION Couple-based suicide prevention may provide an additional avenue for suicide prevention in veterans.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to examine the effect of environmental characteristics, business partnership relationship, knowledge complementarity, organizational characteristics on knowledge management practices and innovation performance.Design/methodology/approachThe research used primary data, i.e. data obtained directly from the distribution of questionnaires to respondents, namely, the company’s managers/leaders/directors in the companies that became the research sample. Data were collected by sending questionnaires either by mail or email to the respondents. To examine the effect of environmental characteristics, business partnership relationship, knowledge complementarity and organizational characteristics on knowledge management practices and innovation performance.FindingsEnvironmental characteristics, business partnership relationship, knowledge complementarity and organizational characteristics partially have a significant effect on knowledge management practices. Environmental characteristics and business partnership relationship partially have a significant effect on innovation performance, while knowledge complementarity and organizational characteristics have no significant effect. For other constructs, knowledge management practices are able to be a moderator variable, which can relate these constructs with innovation performance.Originality/valueThe research using the diffusion of innovation paradigm, the combination of market-based and knowledge-based paradigms is expected to fill the previous research gap and become the first uniqueness and originality, as well as characteristic of this research. The second originality is this research examines the role of the knowledge management practice variable as the moderator variable. Then, the third originality is this research investigates the relationship between business partner relationship and innovation performance. These three originalities are still rarely studied in previous studies, so this research will further complement, expand the study, especially in the knowledge management, innovation performance area.

The purpose of this study was to examine how problematic media use (technoference, internet gaming disorder symptoms, and pornography use) predicted later partner relationship outcomes, operating through the mediator of partner responsiveness. Participants ( N = 1039) were from Waves II–IV of a nationally representative quantitative study on marriage relationships across the United States. Both spouses completed surveys reporting problematic media use, partner responsiveness, and relationship outcomes at three separate time points each spaced a year apart. In order to test the hypotheses, three longitudinal actor-partner interdependence models with indirect paths were estimated, with each model corresponding to one type of problematic media use. Results indicated that at the cross-sectional level, all three types of problematic media use had significant indirect actor and partner effects, where problematic media use predicted lower relationship outcomes through the intervening variable of partner non-responsiveness. Longitudinally, wife technoference directly negatively predicted later partner responsiveness, but there were no full indirect paths of Wave II problematic media to Wave IV relationship outcomes through the intervening variable of Wave III partner responsiveness. Implications of these findings and future directions are discussed.

- Abstract
There is a long-standing idea that societies with too many men, particularly young and single men - the so-called "bare branches" - have a tendency for vice, risk-taking and violence, ultimately threatening social order and stability. Marriage is an important marker for adulthood across the globe. Yet, participation in the marriage market - looking for a spouse and forming a union - in sub-Saharan Africa is constrained, and the marriage market is an important institution shaping and maintaining inequality in income and opportunities. Traditional marriage practices, such as that of polygyny, where one man is married to more than one woman at the same time, are still prevalent in sub-Saharan Africa and lead to a situation where some men, particularly the young, struggle to find a wife and start a family. Having more men than women in the marriage market gives rise to competition amongst men, spurring frustration and anger among those that struggle to find a bride. The imbalance between men and women in the marriage market has been associated with increasing rebel attacks and intergroup conflict in the region. Hence, there is a palpable need to pay more attention to the marriage market, particularly in sub-Saharan African countries, many of which are already struggling with political and societal instability. A more complete characterisation of the marriage market and its actors is necessary to better understand the underlying forces that cause young and unmarried men to gravitate towards violence. Governments must begin to recognise the importance of the marriage market as an institution perpetrating injustices and economic grievances. At the same time, targeted strategies need to be developed that recognise and address perceived inequalities and thus pre-empt promises by extremist groups, who exploit the relative dearth of brides as a recruitment strategy. Targeted information campaigns and appeals are only short-term solutions. Direct interventions in the marriage m

- Abstract
This paper studies how secular changes in the student sex ratio affect marriage market outcomes for university graduates. Using data from Germany, I find that a higher own-gender share within the field of study reduces marriage market opportunities for women, while the opposite is true for men. Moreover, an imbalanced student sex ratio changes the composition of couples. For women, a higher female share decreases the probability of having a spouse from the same field, while men are more likely to marry down with respect to educational status when the male share is high. These findings suggest that the secular changes in the sex ratio of university students have important implications beyond the labor market by affecting the household composition among the high-skilled population.

- Abstract
However, empirically verified knowledge about their frequency remains low. This article deals with the development of same-sex couples in West Germany since the early 1970s. Based on micro-census data, the analysis of cohabiting same-sex couples – partly using an estimation method – is considered not only over time, but also, innovatively, over the life course of cohorts. Theoretically, it is argued that the choice of a same-sex partner depends not only on sexual orientation, but also on social and structural conditions. The results show that the proportion of same-sex couples has increased steadily over time. This increase is due to a cohort effect. The fact that the younger cohorts live more frequently in same-sex partnerships is visible for both sexes. However, the increase is more pronounced among men.

- Abstract
[Abstract] People with dark personality traits tend to be unsympathetic, manipulative, and violent, and this can affect their intimate partner relationships.

As public services face the limits of existing approaches to public management, emerging practices are highlighting the importance of continuous learning and service reform. While many approaches, methods and aids for learning exist, managers embracing complexity are making use of relational resources to scaffold their learning capacity-building. This article introduces the idea of ‘learning partnerships’: a set of nested learning relationships between public managers, consultants, and researchers and academics, which extends the literature on academic–practitioner collaborations and builds a relational mechanism for learning into the action learning action research (ALAR) and learning organization genres.

Treatment Satisfaction Questionnaire for Medication – TSQM, verzija 1.4), Kvaliteta partnerskega odnosa, lestvica diadne regulacije (angl. Dyadic adjustment scale – DAS) in Vprašalnik o intimnosti in spolnosti (angl. Multiple Sclerosis Intimacy and Sexuality Questionnaire – MSISQ-19). Oblikovali smo pet kategorij: partnerski odnos, prosti čas, bolezen in zdravljenje, fizične spremembe v funkcioniranju in spolnost. Multiple sclerosis is chronic inflammatory disease with presumed autoimmune ethology which typically occurs during the most productive period of life. It mostly affects people between 20 and 40 years old and has 2-4 times greater incidence in women. This is also a period in life when a person looks for a partner, establish a family and is usually also at the top of professional carrier. Multiple sclerosis has thereby strong influence of partner relationship and family life as such. Symptoms, possible side effects of medical treatment, psychological, social and cultural issues may influence sexual activity which represents very important component of partner relationship. Since there are, to our knowledge, no studies investigating relationship between satisfaction with multiple sclerosis treatment, partner relationship and sexual dysfunction, we addressed this topic which is even more important in view of long-term immunomodulatory treatment with significant side effects influencing every day quality of life. Our study is divided into the three parts. We initially addressed marital status of patients with multiple sclerosis on immunomodulatory treatment and determined the proportions of patients who were in either partner relationship, divorced or single. We then investigated possible relationship between satisfaction with multiple sclerosis treatment, quality of partner relationship and sexual dysfunction considering the degree of neurological disability and duration of the disease. We further investigated if patients with more simple treatment including tablets and infusions were more satisfied, have better partner relationship and less frequent sexual dysfunction compared to patients with more complex treatment including administration of the drug by subcutaneous/intramuscular injections. The third part of our study was qualitative and aimed to complement quantitative research. We included 588 patients and use three questionnaires: Treatment Satisfaction Questionnaire for Medication – TSQM, Dyadic adjustment scale – DAS and Multiple Sclerosis Intimacy and Sexuality Questionnaire – MSISQ-19. We found that majority of patients with multiple sclerosis on immunomodulatory treatment were married or had extramarital relationship. Patients receiving more simple treatment with tablets and infusions were more satisfied compared to patients on subcutaneous/intramuscular injections. More simple treatment was associated also with less secondary and tertiary dysfunction. There was, however, no association between mode of treatment and quality of partner relationship. Herein presented qualitative analysis was based on grounded theory. We exposed important aspects of life in patients with multiple sclerosis who are in partner relationship. We established 5 categories including partner relationship, spare time, disease and treatment, changes in physical status and sexuality. We developed a model »MS TODAY« aimed to facilitate treatment of patients in centres for multiple sclerosis. This would enable more comprehensive view on patient life with multiple sclerosis, tolerance of immunomodulatory treatment, partner relationship and social as well as economic status. Our results are expected to contribute new evidence which will facilitate target interventions in relationship and family therapy in patients with multiple sclerosis.

Obe trditvi smo zavrgli. Potrdili pa smo peto trditev, in sicer so imeli uporabniki alkohola izkušnjo s staršem alkoholikom. The present work is based on research on emotional regulation in partner relationships and alcohol use during the epidemic. In the theoretical part, we define in the first chapter the fundamental role of the relationship, from which the partner relationship is derived, and in the second chapter the attachment styles in childhood and adulthood. The partner relationship is a space where patterns of behaviour and feelings familiar from the primary family are repeated, and a hope that the couple will be able to resolve these disputes in an understanding and respectful way. In a partnership there is a strong sense and desire for freedom and autonomy, but at the same time closeness, contact and understanding, which means acceptance and affection between the partners. In relationships, we want security, emotional warmth and trust, but the path to satisfying intimacy is often paved with our own and our partner's emotional damage, which needs to be healed through compassionate conversation (Gostečnik 1999, 13-5). In the context of facing distress and anxiety, emotion regulation, which we discuss in the next section, is an important internal and external process that is used to adapt and monitor emotional reactions to environmental stimuli (Thompson 1995). Emotional regulation happens without the individual's awareness, conscious control and insight into emotional conflicts (Sotres-Bayon and Quirk 2010, 231-5). Cvetek (2014, 5) states that the inadequate handling of emotions is one of the biggest factors of disintegration in marital and family relationships. She goes on to say that well-regulated emotions help people to have good relationships and a functional life, and contribute to well-being in relationships (6). A regulated emotion in an individual demonstrates their ability to face and recognise, experience and feel an emotion. The experience teaches them to accept themselves compassionately and not to experience themselves as a helpless victim (40). Anxious individuals who are unable to regulate their emotional outbursts use alcohol as a mechanism of regulation, whose use was on the rise during the epidemic. Chapter five focuses on alcohol use, causes of alcoholism, alcohol as a mechanism of emotional regulation, alcohol-related aggression and violence, and the treatment of alcoholism. At the end of the theoretical part, we touch upon the COVID-19 epidemic, which has drastically affected our daily lives, changed and affected our routines and caused unimaginable stress. In the empirical part, we present our findings based on a sample of 115 participants, 90 female and 25 male, with an age range between 18 and 60 years. In the assessment of the epidemiological impact on the increase in alcohol use, we started on the assumption that due to sudden stress, depression and health risks partners drank more alcohol and found it harder to regulate their emotions. Both claims were rejected. Furthermore, we hypothesised that there was an increase in physical violence and an increase in alcohol consumption among women who had lost their jobs. Both claims were rejected. In the end, we discarded another of the main assumptions that study participants had experience with a parent alcoholic in childhood.

Responses were presented as frequencies and percentages, and associations were studied using the Chi-squared test/Fisher’s exact test.

Objective Close relationships are associated with pregnancy outcomes, but little is known about the mechanisms involved. This paper examines whether quality of women’s close relationships, specifically with romantic partner (RP) and closest friend or family member (CF), is associated with inflammatory biomarkers during the third trimester of pregnancy. Methods 90 pregnant women were assessed during the second and third trimester. At both visits they completed self-reports describing the positive and negative aspects of their RP and CF relationships. Peripheral blood was collected during these visits, and used to measure systemic levels of cytokines, including IFNγ, IL10, IL6, IL8 and IL13. An index of inflammatory regulation, as reflected by the ratio of IL6:IL10, was also computed. Results Positive (e.g. support, intimacy) and negative (e.g. conflict) aspects of the RP relationship interacted to predict third trimester cytokine values. Specifically, RP relationships relatively low in both positive and negative aspects were associated with lower third trimester anti-inflammatory (IL10, IL13) and anti-viral (IFNγ) cytokines, and a higher IL6:IL10 ratio, controlling for second trimester levels. These associations were independent of demographics, gestational age, weeks between assessment, parity, pre-pregnancy body mass index, maternal stress, distress, depressed mood and RP cohabitation. CF relationship aspects were not associated with inflammatory markers. Conclusions RP relationships relatively low in both positive, e.g. support and intimacy, and negative, e.g. conflict, aspects were associated with a less anti- and more pro-inflammatory cytokine profile during the third trimester. These findings have implications for understanding the associations amongst close relationships, inflammation, and potentially pregnancy outcomes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Here we study how unemployment is related to partner relationship happiness in the United Kingdom. We investigate multiple dimensions of unemployment—current unemployment, changes in unemployment, duration of unemployment, and past unemployment—each of which provides unique insights into how economic uncertainty can strain relationships. Not including these aspects potentially leads to an underestimation of the long-term effect of unemployment and times when couples are especially affected. Using British longitudinal data (UK Household Longitudinal Study), we employ random and fixed regression analyses. The results highlight the gendered nature of relationships and employment within British couples. As found in previous studies, unemployment, particularly men’s unemployment, is associated with unhappier relationships. However, we find that over the long-run, relationship happiness declined and did not always recover. In addition, men’s re-employment did not solve problems rising from unemployment, especially for women, who continued to be less happy with the relationship when their male partner was unemployed in the recent past. Overall, the research showed that unemployment is not only related to relationship happiness at the time of unemployment, but had a scarring effect on relationship happiness.

Pediatric cancer may impact parents' partner relationship and increase patient, parent, and sibling distress. This study examined parents' reports of their relationship adjustment and depressive symptoms and their association with their ratings of patients' and siblings' emotional/behavioral problems in families of recently diagnosed pediatric cancer patients.Cross-sectional questionnaire study.A total of 31 parents (87% female; 71% Latino) of pediatric cancer patients.Parents reported on their relationship adjustment, depressive symptoms, and the patients' and siblings' emotional/behavioral problems.Poorer relationship adjustment was correlated with more parent depressive symptoms and patient emotional/behavioral problems. Parent depressive symptoms were positively correlated with emotional/behavioral problems in patients and siblings. After accounting for child age and parent depressive symptoms, relationship adjustment remained significantly associated with patient, but not sibling, problems. When parents have poorer relationship adjustment following diagnosis, children with cancer may be at increased risk for emotional/behavioral problems.Interventions targeting the partner relationship may be relevant to supporting family adjustment following diagnosis.
