An editorial is presented which expresses the views on the necessity of strategic de-implementation to enhance patient safety by eliminating low-value care practices. Topics include the need to assess and discontinue ineffective or harmful interventions, strategies for de-implementing low-value care, and the importance of a comprehensive approach to optimize patient outcomes and resource use.

Aim: To report the results of a mapping exercise by the European Federation of Nurses on current advanced practice nursing frameworks and developments across Europe. Design: Online, cross‐sectional, questionnaire study. Methods: An online questionnaire was distributed among 35 national nurses' associations across Europe in March 2021. The questionnaire solicited input on 60 items concerning key features of advanced practice nursing, intending to map existing developments and better understand the current state of advanced practice nursing in Europe. Data analysis used descriptive statistics, including counts and percentages, tabulation; open‐text responses were handled with thematic synthesis techniques. Results: The definition, sense‐making and operationalization of advanced practice nursing vary across Europe. Important variations were noted in the definition and requirements of advanced practice nursing, resulting in different views on the competencies and scope of practice associated with this role. Importantly, the level of education and training required to qualify and practice as an advanced practice nurse varies across European countries. Furthermore, only 11 countries reported the existence of a national legislation establishing minimum educational requirements. Conclusion: Significant variation exists in how countries define advanced practice nursing and how it is regulated at academic and practice levels. More research is needed to clarify whether this variation results from designing models of advanced practice nursing that work in different contexts; and what impact a standardized regulatory framework could have to grow the volume of advanced practice nurses across Europe. Impact: The current paper exposes the lack of clarity on the development and implementation of advanced practice nursing across Europe. We found significant variation in the definition, recognition, regulation and education of advanced practice nurses. Our data are essential to policymakers, professional associations and employers to ensure a coordinated and systematic effort in the consistency and ongoing development of advanced practice nurses across Europe. Aims: The aim was to examine and describe women's emergency department visits and care‐seeking experiences, including recognition, evaluation and communication of symptoms, injuries and health risks after non‐fatal intimate partner strangulation. Design: Using a diagnostic process framework, this mixed‐methods study explores concordance and discordance of interview and medical records data to highlight opportunities for clinical diagnostic improvement. Methods: In‐depth, semi‐structured interviews with women after an emergency department visit for non‐fatal intimate partner strangulation, concurrent with medical records reviews, were conducted between March 2018 and January 2019. A constant comparative approach was used to analyse interview and medical record data using an a priori codebook designed based on the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine's conceptual model of the diagnostic process and prior intimate partner violence research. Results: Interviews reflected participants did not have a sense of long‐term health risks from their strangulation beyond addressing emotional trauma. Women noted that forensic and emergency nursing support was treatment in and of itself that allowed them to be heard and validated. Medical record clinical impressions and final diagnoses included domestic violence, domestic abuse or sexual assault, but not specifically strangulation. Conclusion: This study contributes to the growing literature regarding strangulation diagnosis and care. Our findings provide new details of women's emergency department care‐seeking experiences which, whilst overall aligned with medical records documentation, were not reflected in final diagnostic impressions nor in patient recollection of long‐term health risks. Impact Nurses are strongly positioned as clinical practice leaders and policy advocates to improve collective responses to this dangerous violence mechanism. Actions such as improving patient education, referral and follow‐up options to better communication and address long‐term strangulation risk are one example. Further research on non‐fatal intimate partner strangulation and care‐seeking is warranted to expand this knowledge, particularly in longitudinal cohorts and varied geographical areas. Jacquelyn Campbell, a prolific researcher and revered expert on intimate partner violence (IPV), discusses the poorly understood reality of traumatic brain injury (TBI) afflicting women who have experienced IPV. She notes that although there is evidence of high rates of TBI among battered women, emergency and other medical services often fail to detect TBI in these patients. Ignorance of the implications of TBIs may lead clinicians to misunderstand how TBI survivors present and behave. Among other topics, the author describes how TBI presents in survivors, how TBIs affect their helpseeking behaviors, and the best ways to effectively assess for the presence of a TBI and to provide support, solace, and services for those so affected. This article encapsulates the wisdom of a team of experts who describe one of the myriad of near lethal dangers battered women face at the hands of their abusers. Traumatic brain injury, like strangulation, is among the more serious aftermaths of physical battering. Those not in the know are often puzzled or put off by the manifestations of TBIs. Here, the authors describe the critical importance of a careful and sensitive assessment of the range of TBI symptoms in victims of abuse, especially in light of the reluctance of many survivors to reveal the extent of the physical abuse they have endured from the man who promised to love and protect them, rather than irreparably harm them. The impact of the SARS-CoV-2 virus on delivery of hospital care during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has required effective nursing leadership of large teams of Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs). At a large academic medical center in the mid-Atlantic United States, nurse leaders combined knowledge of the psychological phases of disaster and principles of the Serving Leadership framework to mobilize and lead APRN teams to deliver high-quality care to all patients and provide a safe working environment for healthcare teams. In this article, we discuss exemplars that demonstrate the flexibility and strengths of APRNs in all roles who addressed rapidly evolving needs such as resource allocation and education. The conclusion highlights the value and relevance of APRN skillsets to clinical practice and the opportunity to further capitalize on these strengths during the continuing journey through this COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. Despite the prevalence and harmful consequences of interpersonal violence and the growth in intervention research, applying research evidence and strategies into practice remains limited. This systematic review addresses this gap by using the Consolidated Framework of Implementation Research (CFIR) to characterize barriers and facilitators in efforts to prevent and address interpersonal violence. A systematic search of peer-reviewed literature was conducted using the following databases: PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, Cochrane, Web of Science, Scopus, and APA PsycInfo. The searches resulted in 1,319 articles for initial screening, with 31 studies included in the final synthesis. The selected studies were original research highlighting barriers and facilitators of implementing interpersonal violence interventions for adolescents and adults across various US settings, employing quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods approaches. Excluded studies included protocols, reviews, and research that did not identify barriers or facilitators of implementing violence prevention or intervention programs. Published from 2007 to 2023, the selected studies spanned healthcare, school, community, correctional, and military settings. Using the CFIR, the review identified multilevel barriers (e.g., lack of cultural relevance, leadership commitment) and facilitators (e.g., intervention adaptability, stakeholder engagement) across five domains: outer setting (external factors), inner setting (organizational characteristics) implementation process, individual characteristics, and intervention characteristics. These findings underscore the importance of adaptable, culturally relevant strategies and comprehensive stakeholder involvement for effective implementation. The review emphasizes the need for enhanced pre-implementation planning, capacity building, and organizational support to address identified barriers.
