Relevance: repetitive behaviors, limited interests, and other unusual sensory behaviors often significantly affect the lives of many people with developmental disabilities, including but not limited to autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and childhood schizophrenia (PSD). Identification of specific patterns of atypical behavior in these disorders can improve the specificity of diagnoses and monitor response to treatment. Therefore, it would be useful to have an approved questionnaire for the assessment of pathomorphosis and pathoplasty of stereotypes in ASD and schizophrenia in childhood, aimed at parents and caregivers of children in this cohort. Objective: To develop and validate a questionnaire for assessing the manifestations and dynamics of stereotypes in ASD and ADHD in childhood, aimed at parents and guardians of children in this cohort, for further use in clinical practice. Materials and Methods: in accordance with international and Russian standards, a questionnaire was developed to assess the manifestations and dynamics of stereotypes and tested on a focus group of parents (legal representatives) of children diagnosed with ASD and PSD, followed by an assessment of the results of psychodiagnostic testing - reliability, validity and sensitivity of the results obtained. developed questionnaire. Statistical analysis was performed using Statistica, version 9.0. Results: according to the results of testing with the participation of a group of parents (legal representatives) of the selected cohort, the acceptability of the questionnaire and high validity rates were confirmed. The conducted factor analysis testifies to the adequacy of the grouping of questions of the questionnaire according to the expected factors and stable construct validity. Conclusion: the results obtained indicate the reliability, validity and sensitivity of the questionnaire for assessing the manifestations and dynamics of stereotypes in ASD and SDV in childhood and the possibility of its use in epidemiological studies both for clinical practice and for scientific purposes in the field of psychiatry.

The study of the bifactor structure of psychopathology, which includes a general factor of psychopathology (or p factor) in addition to the internalizing and externalizing factors, has gained attention. However, its associations with the Five-Factor Model (FFM) of personality has been addressed in few studies, and none has examined different plausible etiological models (i.e., continuity, pathoplasty, complication) to explain its relationship, which is the aim of the present research. Additionally, the longitudinal association of the General Factor of Personality (GFP) and the p factor will be also explored. Personality and psychopathological symptoms of high school students were assessed at three time points (once a year) (n = 655; M = 13.79, SD = 1.24; 49.8% girls). Confirmatory Factor Analysis (and measurement invariance across waves) were tested for the traits, the GFP and the bifactor model of psychopathology. While the bifactor model and the one-factor solution for each personality trait displayed good fit to the data and remained invariant over time, the structure of the GFP was adequate and invariant in two of the three waves. The resulting factors were included in cross-lagged panel models and showed that the FFM traits and the psychopathology factors influenced each other reciprocally. Most associations fell in line with the continuity model, but minor pathoplastic and complication effects were also reported. Similar associations were found between the GFP and the p factor. These results suggest that interventions in riskier personality profiles might prevent the development of general and more specific psychopathology spectra. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Four explanations for the concurrent and prospective associations between temperament and psychopathology in children have been suggested: predisposition, complication/scar, common cause/continuity, and pathoplasty/exacerbation. Because the confounding effects of common causes have not been ruled out in prior work, the support for the various explanations is uncertain. Methods: Screen‐stratified community samples of 4‐year olds in Trondheim, Norway (n = 1,042), and 3‐year olds in Barcelona, Spain (n = 622), were assessed biennially for symptoms of attention‐deficit/hyperactivity (ADHD), oppositional defiant (ODD), conduct (CD), anxiety, and depressive disorders through interviewer‐based psychiatric interviews across four waves of data collection. The parents completed child temperament ratings. The data were analyzed with random and fixed effects regression adjusted for all time‐invariant unmeasured confounders (e.g., genetics, common methods bias, item overlap). Results: In both Norway and Spain and across ages, negative affect predisposed children to symptoms of all disorders except CD, low effortful control predisposed children to ADHD and ODD‐symptoms, and surgency predisposed children to increased ADHD‐symptoms. Complication effects were observed in the Spanish children for ADHD‐symptoms, which increased surgency and diminished effortful control, and for ODD‐symptoms, which decreased surgency. The common cause and pathoplasty/exacerbation explanations were not supported. Conclusions: The present results are consistent with the view that temperament plays a causal role in the development of symptoms of psychiatric disorders in children. Because temperament is malleable, interventions targeting the affective, attentional, and behavioral regulatory components of temperament may reduce psychopathology in children. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
