A reduction in the operating temperature in SOFC can decrease materials degradation for long term operation. The efficiency of energy conversion and durability of performance mainly depend on the electro catalytic activity of the cathode and its thermo-chemical compatibility with the oxide ion conducting solid electrolyte. In this work, La0.65Sr0.35CoO3-δ (LSC 6535), a mixed conducting stable perovskite oxide prepared by glycine nitrate route is systematically characterized. Circular pellets were fabricated and subjected to sintering at different temperatures ranging from 1073–1773 K. the sintering behaviour of LSC and LSC-YZ composite were investigated to obtain information on the densification, shrinkage in volume after heat treatment. The thermo-chemical compatibility of this cathode material with YZ is also brought out. Complex impedance spectroscopy was used for determining the conductivity and electrical behaviour. The component diffusion coefficient and mobility of ions were calculated from conductivity values. Experimental investigations on new materials for application as electrolyte in electrolyte supported planar Intermediate Temperature Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (ITSOFC) operating below 800 °C is in progress at our laboratory. Sr and Mg doped Lanthanum gallate (LSGM) powder was prepared by glycine — nitrate combustion method. The prepared LSGM powder is relatively finer than that prepared through other techniques such as solid-state reaction. The measurements comprising XRD, particle size, density, TGA/DTA were made. Thin sections of circular pellets were fabricated and annealed at different temperatures ranging between 1000 and 1300 °C. The sintering behaviour of LSGM was investigated to obtain information on the densification factor, relative percentage shrinkage/expansion in volume, while annealing and the resulting apparent porosity values. Bismuth oxide is found to be an effective sintering aid in general. So the effect of bismuth oxide addition on LSGM was investigated through sintering studies, XRD, TGA/DTA, SEM and conductivity measurements. The results obtained on LSGM with and without bismuth oxide addition are discussed with respect to the requirement of an electrolyte for ITSOFC applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Solid-oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) can be used for clean, efficient and environment-friendly energy conversion with a variety of fuels at high temperature (1273 K). The high temperature operation accelerates unwanted reactions and creates materials challenges; so, intermediate-temperature SOFCs (IT-SOFCs) have been developed. Reduction of the operating temperature (between 873-1073 K) requires solid electrolyte materials with higher conductivities. In this study, partially substituted ceria as solid electrolyte is experimented systematically for use in solid oxide fuel cells operating below 1073 K (intermediate temperature range). Nine compositions namely, CeO2, Ce0.95Gd0.05O2-δ (CGO9505), Ce0.90Gd0.10O2-δ (CGO9010), Ce0.85Gd0.15O2-δ (CGO8515), Ce0.80Gd0.20O2-δ (CGO8020), Ce0.95Sm0.05O2-δ (SDC9505), Ce0.90Sm0.10O2-δ (SDC9010), Ce0.85Sm0.15O2-δ (SDC8515) and Ce0.80Sm0.20O2-δ (SDC8020) were synthesized by Glycine Nitrate (GN) combustion technique and investigated. Abstract: Solid oxide fuel cell can convert fuels rich in H2 into electrical energy directly without pollution by electrochemical reaction with oxygen. The efficiency of energy conversion and durability of performance mainly depend on the oxide ion conducting solid electrolyte activity. The global experience gained all these years in the SOFC development has prompted for a change from the state of the art functional electrolyte material, yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) having a conductivity of 0.1Scm-1 at 1000°C to a new material, which exhibits equivalent conductivity values in the intermediate temperature range (600–700°C). In this work, Y2Zr207 (YZ), an ionic conducting stable pyrochlore based oxide prepared by glycine nitrate combustion route is systematically characterised. Both circular and rectangular pellets were fabricated by uniaxial compression followed by annealing at different temperatures. The functional properties such as porosity, percentage thermal shrinkage in volume and percentage densification of the sintered pellets are compiled. Bismuth oxide is found to be an effective sintering aid in general. So the effect of bismuth oxide addition on YZ was investigated through sintering studies, XRD, TGA/DTA, SEM and conductivity measurements. The results obtained on YZ with and without bismuth oxide addition are discussed with respect to the requirement of an electrolyte for ITSOFC application. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Background: Improving mental health literacy (MHL) can reduce stigma towards mental illness, decreasing delays in help-seeking for mental disorders such as psychosis. We aimed to develop and assess the impact of an interactive MHL intervention on stigma related mental health knowledge and behaviour (SRMHKB) among youth in two urban colleges in South India., Methods: Incorporating input from stakeholders (students, teachers, and mental health professionals), we developed a mental health literacy module to address SRMHKB. The module was delivered as an interactive session lasting 90 min. We recruited 600 (300 males; 300 females; mean age 19.6) participants from two city colleges in Chennai from Jan-Dec 2019 to test the MHL module. We assessed SRMHKB before the delivery of the MHL intervention, immediately after, and at 3 and 6 months after the intervention using the Mental Health Knowledge Schedule (MAKS) and Reported and Intended Behaviour Scale (RIBS). We used generalised estimating equations (GEE) to assess the impact of the intervention over time., Results: Compared to baseline, there was a statistically significant increase in stigma related knowledge and behaviour immediately after the intervention (coefficient=3.8; 95% CI: 3.5,4.1) and during the 3-month (coefficient=3.4; 95% CI: 3.0,3.7) and 6-month (coefficient=2.4; 95% CI: 2.0,2.7) follow-up., Conclusion: Preliminary findings suggest that a single 90-minute MHL interactive session could lead to improvements in SRMHKB among youth in India. Missense Non-synonymous single nucleotide polymorphisms (nsSNPs) of Galactose Mutarotase (GALM) are associated with the Novel type of Galactosemia (Galactosemia type 4) together with symptoms such as high blood galactose levels and eye cataracts. The objective of the present study was to identify deleterious nsSNPs of GALM recorded on the dbSNP database through comprehensive insilico analysis. Among the 319 missense nsSNPs reported, various insilco tools predicted R78S, R82G, A163E, P210S, Y281C, E307G and F339C as the most deleterious mutations. Structural analysis, PTM analysis and molecular dynamics simulations (MDS) were carried out to understand the effect of these mutations on the structural and physicochemical properties of the GALM protein. The residues R82G and E307G were found to be part of the binding site that resulted in decreased surface accessibility. Replacing the charged wild-type residue with a neutral mutant type affected its substrate binding. All 7 mutations were found to increase the rigidity of the protein structure, which is unfavorable during ligand binding. The mutation F339E made the protein structure more rigid than all the other mutations. Y281 is a phosphorylated site, and therefore, less significant structural changes were observed when compared to other mutations; however, it may have significant differences in the usual functioning of the protein. In summary, the structural and functional analysis of missense SNPs of GALM is important to reduce the number of potential mutations to be evaluated in vitro to understand the association with some genetic diseases.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. NS3-4A, a serine protease, is a primary target for drug development against Hepatitis C Virus (HCV). However, the effectiveness of potent next-generation protease inhibitors is limited by the emergence of mutations and resulting drug resistance. To address this, in this study a structure-based drug design approach is employed to screen a large library of 7320 natural compounds against both wild-type and mutant variants of NS3-4A protease. Telaprevir, a widely used protease inhibitor, was recruited as the control drug. The top 10 compounds with favorable binding affinities underwent drug-likeness evaluation. Based on ADMET studies, complexes of NP_024762 and NP_006776 were selected for molecular dynamic simulations. Principal component analysis (PCA) was employed to explore the conformational space and protein dynamics of the protein-ligand complex using a Free Energy Landscape (FEL) approach. The cosine values obtained from FEL analysis ranged from 0 to 1, and eigenvectors with cosine values below 0.2 were chosen for further analysis. To forecast binding free energies and evaluate energy contributions per residue, the MM-PBSA method was employed. The results highlighted the crucial role of amino acids in the catalytic domain for the binding of the protease with phytochemicals. Stable associations between the top compounds and the target protease were confirmed by the formation of hydrogen bonds in the binding pocket involving residues: His1057, Gly1137, Ser1139, and Ala1157. The novel Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) has emerged to be the reason behind the COVID-19 pandemic. It was discovered in Wuhan, China and then began spreading around the world, impacting the health of millions. Efforts for treatment have been hampered as there are no antiviral drugs that are effective against this virus. In the present study, we have explored the phytochemical constituents of Salvia plebeia R. Br., in terms of its binding affinity by targeting COVID-19 main protease (M pro ) using computational analysis. Molecular docking analysis was performed using PyRx software. The ADMET and drug-likeness properties of the top 10 compounds showing binding affinity greater than or equal to - 8.0 kcal/mol were analysed using pkCSM and DruLiTo, respectively. Based on the docking studies, it was confirmed that Rutin and Plebeiosides B were the most potent inhibitors of the main protease of SARS-CoV-2 with the best binding affinities of - 9.1 kcal/mol and - 8.9 kcal/mol, respectively. Further, the two compounds were analysed by studying their biological activity using the PASS webserver. Molecular dynamics simulation analysis was performed for the selected protein-ligand complexes to confirm their stability at 300 ns. MM-PBSA provided the basis for analyzing the affinity of the phytochemicals towards M pro by calculating the binding energy, and secondary structure analysis indicated the stability of protease structure when it is bound to Rutin and Plebeiosides B. Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a viral respiratory disease that has been spreading across the globe. The World Health Organization (WHO) declared it as a public health emergency. The treatment of COVID-19 has been hampered due to the lack of effective therapeutic efforts. Main Protease (M pro ) is a key enzyme in the viral replication cycle and its non-specificity to human protease makes it a potential drug target. Cyperus rotundus Linn, which belongs to the Cyperaceae family, is a traditional herbal medicine that has been widely studied for its antiviral properties. In this study, a computational approach was used to screen natural compounds from C. rotundus Linn using BIOVIA Discovery Suite and novel potential molecules against M pro of SARS-CoV-2 were predicted. Molecular docking was performed using LibDock protocol and selected ligands were further subjected to docking analysis by CDOCKER. The docking scores of the selected ligands were compared with standard antiretroviral drugs such as lopinavir and ritonavir to assess their binding potentials. Interaction pharmacophore analysis was then performed for the compounds exhibiting good binding scores to evaluate their protein-ligand interactions. The selected protein-ligand complexes were subjected to molecular dynamics simulation for 50 ns. Results of binding free energy analysis revealed that two compounds-β-amyrin and stigmasta-5,22-dien-3-ol-exhibited the best binding interactions and stability. Finally, absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion, and toxicity (ADMET) studies were performed to understand the pharmacokinetic properties and safety profile of the compounds. The overall results indicate that the phytochemicals from Cyperus rotundus Linn, namely β-amyrin and stigmasta-5,22-dien-3-ol, can be screened as potential inhibitors of SARS-CoV-2 M pro ., (Copyright © 2021 Elsevier Ltd. Aim: This paper aims to examine how existing mental health within the city of Chennai, India manages first-episode psychosis, to determine lacunae and barriers in providing effective early intervention and to make appropriate recommendations to improve the care of first-episode psychosis patients., Methods: Interviews were held with 15 health professionals to capture information on current practices and facilities available for the management of first-episode psychosis., Results: No specialized clinic or services were available for individuals with first-episode psychosis in Chennai, except one. Pharmacotherapy was the main treatment modality with psychological support to patients and families. Most common drugs used were Risperidone, Olanzapine, and Haloperidol in their recommended doses. General practitioners and paediatricians, due to inadequate training in mental health, referred patients with psychosis to mental health professionals., Conclusions: Equipping the existing mental health services to manage FEP and training all health professionals on psychosis will improve FEP management in Chennai., (© 2020 John Wiley & Sons Australia, Ltd.)

Background: Diabetes is a growing concern in low-and middle-income countries. Medical missions play a role in increasing access to care and medicines, but often ignore non-communicable disease prevention and advanced management. Increased knowledge of local community needs and resources can lead to the development and implementation of pharmacist-supported interventions to improve diabetes management in rural areas., Objectives: The purpose of this study was to 1) understand the availability of monitoring for diabetes locally; and 2) describe knowledge and health beliefs regarding diabetes management for those with diabetes, and prevention among those at high risk of developing diabetes., Methods: This qualitative evaluation used semi-structured interviews with key informants in a community in rural Honduras. Participants included those with diabetes, those at-risk for developing diabetes, and community leaders. Data was analyzed using thematic content analysis through an iterative process of coding and theme development., Results: A total of 35 interviews were conducted with five resulting themes: 1) participants identified multiple barriers to diabetes management including access to monitoring, access to certain medications, and access to advanced levels of care; 2) participants acknowledge the relationship between lifestyle choices and diabetes control, but struggled with adherence to a healthy lifestyle; 3) participants identify that they have limited knowledge of diabetes pathophysiology, diabetes management, and strategies to prevent diabetes; 4) participants felt that opportunities existed within the community to support diabetes education and prevention, and 5) providers should integrate culture, societal norms, and religion in diabetes management., Conclusion: This research identifies challenges and resulting opportunities for managing diabetes in rural Honduras. Health care providers including pharmacy personnel should consider strategies to engage communities around self-care and diabetes education. Further, strategies are needed to enhance access to resources and essential medicines for diabetes management.
